They were very professional in doing the estimate and seemed very knowlegable. They inspired confidence, but in the end price mattered more.

We went to buy a rhododendron, but also to inquire about other big plants we could grow in our shaded yard. The selection was large and plants were generally healthy looking. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable, with different expertise among them. We were told about how to mulch and otherwise care for the plants, and the plants come with a warranty. We also bought some gardening tools that we could not get elsewhere. The prices were high compared to retail stores, but comparable to other garden centers, I think, and definitely worth it to get healthy plants and trustworthy information.

They have nice merchandise, but expensive. I found the staff to be a bit dismissive and not particularly attentive. I found a better nursery nearby where the staff are incredibly helpful and the prices are lower

Initial calls and phone consultation were a little delayed in getting a callback and landscaper was rushed on the call, but in the end respectful and thorough. The work itself was really fast, only a few hours with 3 guys who worked like crazy and got a lot of work done in a short period of time. Even though I stayed home to supervise the work, no one let me know they were leaving so I did not get a chance to inspect and approve the work or get final watering instructions before they left (these were emailed to me later). But all in all, the work is what I paid for and they did a good job and did not cut any corners. Some of the sod died on the edges of the lawn but I think mostly because the weather was so crazy hot this Summer (they encouraged me to wait until Fall on the sod job but I declined). As a novice homeowner and gardener, I wish there had a been a little more customer-service and hand-holding, but I would use them again, even though the price was a little higher than other places because of the quality of the work and how efficient they were on the day of the job.

Our cul de sac pooled our $$$ to redo the circle in the center of our court which had been totally neglected by the county. The designer came out, listened to what we wanted and prepared a design that met our vision and budget while adding a little pop to boot. The work was done professionally and courteously. We are very pleased with the results.

Everything went well. Already told the story from start to finish above. The price was very fair, and both he and the person who came to give the estimate were very nice. Not much more to tell about that situation. And on other occasions when I have gone to the gardening center for various plants, everyone is always very helpful and very nice. For example, one year I went in October to buy some tulip bulbs. All of the bulbs were on display in a nice Fall, Halloween setting; unfortunately, there was lots of hay around, which I am seriously allergic to. So I asked a staff member to pick out 25 bulbs in certain colors for me so that I would have to go near the hay, and then have breathing problems. There was no problem, the person was very nice and cooperative. I always have a pleasant experience when I go to Merrifield Garden Center.

We've bought hundreds of dollars of plants from Merrifield Garden Center's nurseries over the years. We stopped in 2010 due to the births of our kids, but we'll start again soon. Their plants are top quality, and the shopping experience is fun!

I have used Merrifield Garden Center for two main services: as our landscape designer and as our primary plant material provider. Caveat: I love gardening, and I love gardens. I have no formal training, but I love exploring gardens and riding through neighborhoods and the countryside, looking at green spaces. When I bought my house in late 2005, the yard was a shaggy overgown mess, oulined in chain link fence and centered with a dilapidated deck. Disaster. Nonetheless I bought the house first and foremost because I saw incredible potential in the landscape. Having incredibly high expectations, I hired Merrifield Garden Center to create a landscape design plan for my yard. They charged me $150.00. Tom Wallerich, one of the senior designers, came to my house and spent about an hour with me. He gave me a lot of valuable information about the yard as it existed, and listened to all my ideas about where I wanted it to be. Two weeks later I had a full drawing as well as a plant materials list and proposal. The beautiful drawing reflected all of my ideas and then some. His training, experience and eye brought my ideas to a new level. I love and use this drawing so much, that I've had to archive the original copy and work with copies. I almost always have a copy of the plan with me. Next, the drawing has helped me avoid costly mistakes. Working from the plan, I've been piecing my yard together over time as budget permits. I now buy all my plants and trees at Merrifield Garden Center. When I have bought at other garden centers or at home improvement stores, I have noticed a dramatic difference in quality. Merrifield's plants are better, hands down. They are healthier, grow better, look better, and last longer than other nurseries' plants. Oh, and I have used MGC's delivery service for large plants - it's about $100 anywhere in the DC metro area, and they place the plants exactly where you want them. In sum, I believe Merrifield Garden Center is an incredible value for money. The landscape design service has saved me from many wasteful mistakes, and has paid for itself time and time again. The plants themselves can be more expensive than plants found at other nurseries (but not always) ..... however the quality is always the best. The staff are, despite the heat and crowds, knowledgeable, helpful and pleasantly enthusiastic about my yard. Now that my yard work is largely done, I look at the big picture, reflect on the constant compliments I receive about my landscape, and enjoy the satisfaction of watching my beautiful plants weather and season .... I know I've recovered in value far, far more than the money I've spent.

The person we have been working with over the last 5 years has been phenomenal. We are pleased with the design and the quality of work. Our designer is very knowledgeable and listens to what I want for my yard. She is able to make suggestions and offer alternatives when I don't like the initial suggestion or if the plants aren't working out like we thought. I will continue to use them in the future as long as I keep the same person I have been working with.

It went very well, multiple times. We started in May, and were finished by September. Did it in stages as the money became available. Delivery and planting went as scheduled. Teams were knowledgable and did their work well. Largest tree was a 9' magnolia with a 4' root ball - no way I could have handled that by myself. Tree was blooming a month after planting and has wintered well. Looking forward to this spring now that everything is done.

See above: Ran very smoothly from beginning to end. Other designers haven't really listened or understood our desires, and/or were experienced primarily in either hardscaping or landscaping. Tom is extremely knowledgeable and insightful when it comes to developing a comprehensive plan... and always suggested cost-saving alternatives. Detailed estimate; prompt; easy to communicate with; efficient and cooperative; just a delight to work with!!! Definite warrents a supurb recommendation!

Everything went great. They quality of the plants was excellent. The crew was friendly and clean about there work. I was really happy with the design they came up with. I would use this company again.

Charges a fee to get a quote. Competitors do not do this and I felt this was not worth it. Makes no sense from a business perspective to drive away potential customers in this way especially as no 'design' work was being done.

We asked four contractors for proposals and Merrifield was the only one to actually listen to what we wanted and come in at our budget. Each of their crews showed up on time and did a phenomenal job. We couldn't be more pleased and would highly recommend them again.

He came out and was very nice, but he said he didn't know very much and couldn't really help me with the big questions I had. He really wasn't that much help.

It was a great experience. No surprises and everyone who worked on our project was profesional. Cost came in as estimated.

I am pleased with the results and will definitely take the next step with Merrifield.

The plantings seem to have been done well, at the time, but the job was not fully completed. At this point, after winter, it appears that some of the young plantings may not have survived, and I still need to call them out again to finish the job that they could not do at the time. Honest advice would have been to wait.

MERRIFIELD GARDEN CENTER has a great reputation for excellence. they are very knowledgeable in their area of expertise. they were prompt and always on time. i would use them again in the future.

Merrifield Garden Center is the most well known nursery in the area and they do good work. They have very nice people on staff there who know what they're doing.

Was quite satisfied. Quality of the mulch, plantings, and yardwork shaping the beds was very good.
