We bought and paid for a tree, and found out they sold it to someone else when we called to schedule delivery!-- We purchased a tree for a special occasion and paid for the tree and delivery up front. However, when we called to schedule delivery and planting, we were informed that Merrified had put our tree back out on the lot and sold it to someone else! Yes, we paid up front, saw them tag the tree with our name, were told they would hold it for us and take good care of it, and had talked to the staff in detail about the delivery timeframe which was even written on the receipt and circled. This was particularly disappointing because we had spent hours looking through the trees and had finally found the one that we wanted. Merrifield took our hand-selected tree that we had already purchased, and then sold it again to someone else without even the courtesy of a phone call or contacting us. During this ordeal, we had a glimmer of hope when they said they had found “our tree”! But this was soon to be squashed as they had just picked another tree and stuck our name on it. No, Merrified: Each tree is unique and has its own character, and you can’t sell the same tree to multiple people and then just replace them with another tree that happens to still be on the lot. We picked Merrifield because we thought we would get a great product and professional service. Unfortunately, Merrifield does have the premium prices, but is severely lacking when it comes to customer service. We won’t be returning to Merrifield after this unnecessary and extremely disappointing experience.

Merrifield Garden Center provided an estimate with landscape plan and proceeded to complete the work of removing shrubs and ever greens in the front of the house, replacing with holy trees and other plants, plus creating a solid flagstone walkway. Everything was completed as discussed. The Merrifield crews were professional and courteous, and left the property in great shape. It is an excellent job and we feel like we got our money's worth, which will last many years to come. This project totally remakes the look of our home from the street and it is a huge improvement!

Merrifield Garden Center: we explained in general the look we wanted, and which plants we wanted to retain from the current planting. Their plan, a low-maintenance combination of plants and stone pathways, was creative and beautiful. They were on-time, on-budget, friendly, responsive and above all very committed to making sure we were pleased with the final result. We highly recommend their services, and we will use them again for any future projects. An A+ job!

I contacted Merrifield Garden Center to solicit ideas to manage runoff due to the slope on a portion of my property. I met with Craig Wells. We walked the property with me and offered a few ideas to remedy the wet and soggy areas of my lawn. I liked what I heard and asked Craig to provide a design proposal for my consideration; he did, I approved and we were off and running. Craig and his team installed a dry stream bed with river rock, boulders and an assortment of plants and shrubs that tolerate wet conditions. Craig and his team did a phenomenal job! They outlined the contour of the dry stream bed, dug-out the boggy sections and brought-in new soil and sod. They then added the plants and shrubs. This was a labor-intensive project requiring attention to detail. Craig partnered with me and my spouse throughout the course of the project. As the project unfolded, Craig tweaked the plan If he didn’t like the result. Any time I had a question, he responded. Today, no one would know that section of my property was once a small marshland. It looks as though the dry stream bed was always there. Job well done by Craig and the Merrifield crew.

It was such a pleasure dealing with the staff at Merrifield Garden Center from start to finish, from picking out the new tree, to the actual removal and replacement of the tree. It all went very smoothly.

All very professional start to finish and follow up. I initially met with Dasha, the designer, in May who promptly provided an estimate with a beautiful landscape plan. Shortly after her visit we had the major rainstorms and I was overwhelmed with resolving issues with my basement. I only made my decision on her proposal in August. Throughout the many communications she was extremely patient and understanding of my basement dilemma. I am very happy with the plan that she carried out. She arrived early and reviewed with me the location of my new plants and suggested re-arranging some of the older ones. It was obvious that she had a good rapport with Louis and his team who handled the planting. I was impressed that Louis brought to my attention some issues with a couple older plants and offered solutions. The entire team was very professional.

Merrifield connected us with one of their landscape designers, Sharon Ross, who was punctual, professional and gave us great ideas for our patio and backyard. We had a huge, old willow oak removed, which turned out to be hollow inside, and replaced by several large, beautiful holly trees. The crew also transplanted some other plants from the work site into other parts of the garden, and cleaned up an overgrown, over planted space. Sharon and her team were great, and happy to answer any questions. She continues to contact us to make sure the trees are in good condition.

We met with designer Jimmy James from the nursery on Gallows road. Unlike many other typical landscape designers Jimmy was not in any hurry as we talked about a general idea of redoing the side of our property that had mega weeds growing through unkempt and invasive vinca. Jimmy came back with an idea for a rock garden infused with Drift Roses and a lot of low growing perennials and evergreens. We loved the fact that we did not have to originate the ideas for the rock garden or the plants that would work best. We are yard and plant people and are very picky when it comes to our grounds. It was obvious from the minute we met Jimmy that our relationship would "flower." He thought of every details and showed us many options to enhance the beauty of this garden. Execution was flawless. Jimmy managed every aspect of the installations, personally choosing the position in the garden borders (some 5 feet long) as well as the specific angle and face of each bolder for best viewing. Watching him work his magic was like watching Picasso created a masterpiece. He also positioned every plant and created niches among the boulder to showcase certain plants. We have worked with experienced (in years) landscape "designers" for many years. None had Jimmy's artistic vision. We have lived in the area for 30 years and never used Merrifield for any type of landscaping. Jimmy's performance totally won us over.

It has been 2 weeks since I contacted them via their website. Never got any response. This seems to be a pattern with this nursery. I was seeking information about special ordering a planter last year. A woman helped me find what I needed in one of their catalogs, said she would call the company the next day to see about shipping and I never heard a word after that. STOP TELLING PEOPLE YOU WILL HELP THEM IF YOU HAVE NO INTENTION OF DOING SO. It is a horrible business practice that makes you look bad and makes me shop elsewhere.

I would use them in the future if needed.

They were fast, efficient and it looks good in the end. It took a day to complete.

They actively check on our system and notice things going wrong before we do and take care of it. When they guy was putting in our driveway and broke the system they repaired it at no cost, we like them. They have like 3 people on a truck, they are generally here hour and half, not every long. I think the day we broke our system they spent half a day there.

They come out and recommend it. They have really become a great company and i am glad we stuck with them. They left the area clean and they are all great. Three people came out.

They delivered what they said they would when they said they would. They are a bit more expensive but very prompt and have firewood readily available. We would use them again if we needed quick turnaround.

I am completely satisfied with the excellent advice, workmanship, and the professionalism of their staff and quality of their plants.

The job was considerably more expensive than the quote because they had to dig down to the old footings instead of just resurfacing the old stoop. Also, they had to move 4 shrubs. When replanted, 3 of them promptly died. On the good side- it looks great! Im

I needed 7 silver king euonymus shrubs. Merrifield Garden Center has always been the best nursery in Northern Va. They ALWAYS have the best selection and the healthiest plants then their competitors. They did extensive landscaping for me two years ago and the designer, Philip Holland, did an amazing job. Today, I was warmly greeted by Christine M. in the shrub section of the nursery. She personally helped me select my shrubs and efficiently answered all of my questions. She made my task very enjoyable and easy which I greatly appreciate. She was excellent! Again, Merrifield saved the day for me!!!!

The trees were not planted correctly and they were under tree cover. When I suggested that it would not work, the workers did not speak English. I watered regularly but all three did within a month.

All went well, but their prices are outrageous. However, at this last day one has few if any choices.

Great place to shop for plants. We have never used them for landscaping services but would consider it if we were looking for such.

They were fine. They could have responded to me when I first contacted them in June, instead of giving me the run around until October. I had to keep calling them and they wouldn't return my calls. It was an extremely frustrating experience. The work itself was fine but, getting them to do the work was excruciating. Be prepared for a lot of frustration if you want to use them.

I go here every summer for plants. They have an excellent variety and knowledgeable staff. However, their landscape dept was very disorganized last summer. I tried to get a bid and they kept forgetting to contact me back. In the end, I hired a different landscaper this summer for the same job. That landscaper bought capitata ewes for me from Merrifield. 2 of the 5 got sick quickly for no appearant cause. Merryfield was not helpful, even though a few hundred dollars dollars of capitata ewes died shortly after purchase.

It went well. Very professional and experienced technicians who completed work on our 20 zone system in about 15-20 minutes.

They were quick to answer the phone, and knew the answer right away. In addition, they gave me some context, and that kept me from calling additional resources. They know their stuff, and it shows.
