Very professional. Decided the plans were a little to ornate for our taste.

Our designed came out twice to be sure he completely understood what we wanted as well as the growing conditions of the area to be landscaped. After receiving the plan, I had some concerns and called for more information. You never get landscapers on the phone because they aren't in the office, of course. Since I called on a Friday afternoon, I didn't expect to get a return call until Monday, and left my Monday schedule in the message to avoid playing telephone tag. Imagine my surprise when he called back on Saturday because he "felt bad that he hadn't gotten back to me Friday. He advised me that when we did the job, if after they laid out the plants, if I didn't like the way it looked, we could just change the plants or the layout. I have not actually had this work done yet, but I have had it put on the schedule to be done in a couple of weeks. There is always a wait if you don't want to plant yourself. But Merrifield has basically landscaped my entire yard. The plants, to quote a famous character, always live long and prosper. On the one occasion where a couple died, my landscaper can back to look, and we decided to plant a different plant in that location. I really appreciate their flexibility and concern for my satisfaction.

Half of estimated expense of $8000 was paid upon signatures on contract. Work was to commence in May 2015. Despite repeated promises by landscape designer, no schematic of work to be performed was provided. Workers arrived and removed old plants and planted new. River rock drainage installed but without digging down so that river rock would be at same level as the lawn. Stepping stones were not properly installed so they were not level or stable. No landscaping fabric was installed prior to spending river rock. Plantings in front were choice of designer and not coordinated with me, the customer. I communicated five times with the landscape designer and agreed on three separate occasions for her to meet with me at the house to go over the non-existent design, plantings, and river rock drainage. The designer failed to keep any of the meetings. Finally, in late June, I went to Merrifield's main offices and, by luck, was able to meet with the owner. I brought pictures of the landscaping and provided her with e-mails of the numerous exchanges with the designer. The owner was mortified. She promised a follow-up contact with her lead landscape architect within 48 hours. Twenty-four hours later the landscape architect and his "chief trouble-shooter" were at our door. They advised that the previous designer/architect had been released and that we should henceforth work with the "trouble-shooter." They agreed that the plantings provided no "bones" for the landscape, that the river rock and stepping stones had been improperly installed, and that there should have been an agreed schematic of the work to be done before it was commenced. At the direction of the "trouble-shooter," all of the new plantings were removed; the river rock was removed, and the drainage area was dug down and landscaping fabric installed before the river rock was re-installed. Some days later, after diagrams and a work order were provided and agreed, new plantings were installed. Since then, the trouble-shooter has returned three times to look at the health of the plants and make replacements for plants that were not tolerating the conditions (full-sun, poor drainage, etc.) The experience with the first designer was a disaster. With the trouble-shooter, we received the professionalism and attention we thought we would get from Merrifield from the beginning. So, my evaluation is necessarily two-fold: a wholly failed grade for the initial experience and initial project; an "excellent" grade for the do-over with the trouble-shooter and her team.

The objective section of my review appears conflicted because the crew and crew foreman were punctual, skilled and efficient. The office part of Merrifield Garden Center was the opposite. The initial landscape designer was incomplete in his thoughts describing the scope of work and unresponsive to email. I visited MGC on Labor Day signing the contract, paying required down payment and insisted on changing landscape designers. The second designer was very good answering questions the first designer ignored. Scheduling the work date required several phone calls. Returning a call from my phone missed call screen the person answering at MGC was astonishingly rude. In a superior and conceited voice she ridiculed me for calling the number for the particular person I asked to speak with. I would use the work crew again but I have contempt for office aspect of the business.

Prepare to be bent over the barrel by MGC. Their prices are ridiculously high. They generally have a good selection, but good God, say hello to sticker shock.

I have been purchasing products from Merrifield Garden Center for six or seven years now. I like Merrifield for a host of reasons, including their support of local non-profits, the quality of their products, their return policy, the cost of their soil and soil amendments, and their landscaping services. Whenever my in-laws are in town, they purchase shrubs and trees for my gardens. The latest, a cling-free peach tree, is in remarkable shape. It's 18 months old now, and produced a lot of fruit this summer. I don't think anything I've ever purchased has died. But, if it does, I can return it for replacement or refund.

Merrifield has excellent quality flowers, plants, shrubs, trees, etc. They employ people who are knowledgeable about the product. The prices are high but I believe you get what you pay for, and I want quality so I'm willing to pay for it. I have never bought a plant at Merrifield that has failed to flourish in my yard. This time around, I bought lovely annuals for a container garden located on my patio. The plants produced lovely blooms. I also bought a few perennials for my front yard and they are also doing very well. A few years back, I bought a Japanese Maple from Merrifield and it is as healthy as can be.

Showed up on time, did everything as promised. cleaned up the site, gave me directions on how to care for the tree.

I HAD TWO DIFFERENT PERSONS HELP ME ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THEY WERE VERY DETAILED AND PATIENT I AM HAPPY WITH THE PLANTS THEY RECOMMENDED

They are extremely knowledgable, and gave me good advice. .

We simply bought plants for our yard but the staff was great in working with us to find the right plants for our shady and sunny areas. And they helped us find plants that bloomed from spring to fall. a great group of people.

They did everything professionally and as planned.

They are very good. Their work was wonderful. They were punctual, professional and listened to what I wanted, to how I want my yard to look. Jimmy James was completely responsive to the customer. If I came up with something that was going to look really ugly, he was very clever about getting me some ideas to change my mind to something that would look better. He is really good at that. They are expensive but they are worth it.

This project was supposed to be completed in the fall of 2014 and it is still ongoing as of late June 2015. Plants have died do to improper planting (rootball exposed above ground) and lack of irrigation. The irrigation was supposed to be turned on in the fall of 2014, but was only turned on in May 2015. More irrigation was installed than specified which increased the cost. The concrete that was laid was improperly installed and had to be redone by a different contractor. The fence installed is missing pickets. It was supposed to be completed in fall 2014 and was not in place until spring 2015. It is still incomplete as of June 2015 The work crews were often 4 or more hours late and cancelled appointments at the last minute. Incorrect plants were planted. My garden designers from London provided a list of plant variety and quantity plus a detailed planting plan. Merrifields is not honoring it's verbal guarantee of replacing plants that die within one year of planting. Most of the plants died to the lack of irrigation. All invoices were paid promptly, so there is no excuse for the work not to be completed. The head of Merrifields no longer responds to emails. I have been trying to contact him for months.

Everything worked out very well. They were prompt courteous and the people sent were very knowledgeable.

Merrifield is too arrogant for us.

it was a good design and the person was very professional, but it was very expensive. The same plants at another center would have cost far less. there did not seem to be any discount for buying the plants and having them do the installation of them. I felt like I was being quoted retail prices along with the service fee. Their retail prices are significantly higher across the board from area garden only centers. I like their plants and selection and when we are looking for something pretty for the garden or something unique, this is where i go, but the cost of a basic garden was far too high. We got the plants elsewhere and did it ourselves. I always go there for their Christmas decorations.

I had figured Merrifield was going to be much more expensive than the independent guys. Not so. They came in cheaper than two other quotes plus the stack fee was something ridiculously low like $25 or $50. The stacking was like watching something out of a video game - the entire 1/2 cord of wood was stacked so perfectly, you could fit a board perfectly flush against the front of the stack. He even spent time shoring up any pieces that weren't perfect in the stack. Both of the men doing the delivery were polite, punctual, and went over and above what they needed to do. The wood (ALL OF IT) was perfectly seasoned and kiln dried. It has been the easiest wood to burn and doesn't have the rot and bugs in it that we usually get. I will use Merrifield for firewood every year, without a doubt.

Merrifield is on the expensive side compared to some other nurseries in the area, but it's worth it. Their service is great and their plants/trees are good quality.

I get great flowers from them. Their customer service is excellent.

They talk with too much and they don’t have good guarantees and the plants are dying.

Purchased firewood several times. We paid inside the store then pulled up car and an employee filled the trunk of our car with appropriate amount of purchased firewood. Very professional and easy.

This company, while pricey, is top notch. The quality of plants is excellent as well as the customer service.
