Syd's Plumbing & Repairs

The overall experience was excellent. They started at 7am and finished around 5ish. They left the front yard in good shape and repaired the pipes.

The team paid careful attention to detail, and the finished work was professional and seamless. This was Tim's second visit to our home, and both times we have been very satisfied with the quality. Tim has an eye for detail, and the water heater repair was a follow-up to a prior job where he was replacing worn parts in our laundry sink's faucets. He noticed that our water heater was noisy, and (correctly) traced the problem to the narrow exhaust pipe. Upon replacement, our water heater runs more quietly and heats water more quickly. He has also accommodated requests to look at things that were not the primary point of the visit, and given us helpful advice for keeping our water heater running well. All of the work has held up well since the repairs.

Tues. night my garbage disposal backup/breaks. Michael and Sons can't send anyone for DAYS. Ad @ SYDS says 24 hours. Get answering machine lv msg for someone to call b/c I am leaving town in the AM for 2 days. I want someone Friday AM. By 9:00 AM no one had called; ofc. staff says she can't find a plumber who can commit to coming; "Syd" will call me. I give my cell #. Later that day I see someone has called from cell log but no msg. Call ofc. "Oh that was him." Call him back." I do. He tells me he has a job installing a water heater and can come tomorrow after that. Around 11:00. He'll call b/4 he comes. At 10:30AM on Fri. he calls and says he has an emergency AND CAN'T COME. AT ALL. Three days wasted. STILL HAVE A BROKEN DISPOSAL. Have scheduled another Angie's list plumber for MONDAY. I will never use Syd's Plumbing again.

They noticed that it did not need replacing. They were good. They were honest.

It was fine. They replaced the valve, and unclogged our kitchen sink which had been causing problems.

Syd and his workmen were amazing. The job was done beautifully and professionally. All the dirt from the excavation of the sewer line was contained in one area, so that we did not have a muddy mess upon completion(it was raining while they did the job!). They were polite, thoughtful and were able to finish the job in about six hours. Syd was present for the entire job, working right along with his crew. If we are ever unfortunate enough to need this kind of work done again. Syd's company will be our first choice.

Syds team was very professional, on time, and cleaned up the entire area after the work was completed. They returned calls in s timely fashion and followed up with the inspector on multiple occasions to ensure the paperwork was completed.

Syd met us to explain what needed to be done and quoted us half of what a larger plumbing company had quoted. His crew was on time, on budget, finished on time, and cleaned up. I cannot recommend Syd enough! Our water pressure was MUCH improved!

I'm thrilled to have found Syd's on Angie's List. I was looking for a plumber to do the simple job of installing a new kitchen sink faucet. The first few places on Angie's List that I called were ridiculously expensive for such a little thing, plus they charged dispatch fees. I kept scrolling down your list and spotted Syd's. When the woman who answered the phone said they were a small company and they didn't charge a fee just to come out, that's all I needed to hear. Their plumber arrived promptly on the designated day, explained what he was doing while he worked and fixed a few other things he noticed under the sink. The price was super reasonable, too. I just hope they don't get too busy and become another large company! Note to Angie's List: while I was typing this on an iPad, the apostrophes and commas suddently turned to HTML code, or something. The apostrophe appears to me as ' and the comma is ,. I don't know if the problem is the iPad or your website but I've never had that before.

He and his crew helped us remove some of our freshly laid sod to preserve it and did a wonderful job replacing the pipe. He was extremely fair and professional.

He was extremely punctual. He was very organized and careful about his work. He was extremely neat. He was careful about keeping the floor clean. He polished the faucet thing on the shower; it was nicer than when he got there.

Syd and his team arrived on time and performed the work with a back hoe. I had a retaining wall and gate cable that I didn't want damaged and they were actually able to dig underneath those obstructions by hand and form a dirt bridge (really rather amazing) to maintain their support. Syd replaced both the horizontal section of pipe that had settled and the cleanout vertical pipe. Syd believes that in the past when the previous owners switched from a drain line going to one street to a new one on another street that they dug too deep under the pipe for the new connection. The loose soil eventually compacted over the years resulting in the low pipe that would from time to time cause a back-up. I highly recommend Syd (you may have to wait because everyone appears to want his services so patience is required) for his service, quality and professionalism. They left the surface as good as it was before they arrived, making sure the retaining wall wasn't damaged, cables weren't cut and even doing shrub transplants.

We have a fancy toilet so it's hard to find someone who knows what he or she is doing. He not only did a fantastic job, but he took the time to ensure that our toilet was fixed and also informed us of potential issues that he saw coming down the road. Will definitely use them again.

We had some trouble scheduling because a few other jobs ran long/got much more complicated and so they cancelled on a day we had set (fine by me-I wasn't waiting at home and was willing to be flexible), but they did keep working to get the appt set. Everything I have ever had done by Syd has been top quality, which is one reason I was willing to wait. Whatever is fixed, stays fixed. And it's done with time and attention to detail (which is probably why every job runs long!). They're a good company and you can trust the work.

Tim was great. Punctual, professional, helpful, and neat. I'ms till amazed at the small amount of ceiling he had to remove to access the pipes, which were rather large. Great job overall, and the price was more than reasonable for the work involved.

They got to me quickly and I l really liked that I was offerred choices on those projects that were more expensive. Everything was done well and even though one project took much longer due to old rusty bolts it all got done well and I was pleased with the fact that all my plumbing now works correctly

I called them on Sunday late afternoon and left a message. Got a call back early on Monday morning from the office asking for more information. She told me I would hear from one of their plumbers hopefully on that day, but couldn't promise anything. The plumber called at 9 and said he would be around at 10. He then called at 10 to say he would be at 11. He showed up at 11:15 - I appreciated that he kept us informed of when he would be arriving. I wasn't there for the actual work, my husband was. But he was quick - diagnosed the problem, gave us a quote, fixed it. We needed to replace the fill valve and flapper. He gave us $25 off for using AL. He was very professional and left the place as he found it (clean). Would definitely use them again.

He came out on a Saturday. He took a scope and looked at it with a camera. He said if this does not solve our problem, then we do not owe them anything. If he did fix it, he would give us an estimate. He was wonderful. He was very kind and conscientious of the mess he was making. He was not able to fix it. We are having it replaced. He is the guy that I will call. A+ this rate, the pipes seem to be working.

He did a fantastic job, replaced pipe with better pipe. He was very professional. He replaced my neighbor's pipe for free, since they had to use his driveway to pile dirt. His estimate was right on.

Exterior water was leaking into the house and completed extensive work to repair keep from leaking any further. Their service was outstanding in every possible way. I am very happy with them. The price was fair and they were wonderful to deal with on the phone. I would higly recommend them.

Based on the way our house is situated on a hill and the way our house is built (walk-out basement in the back, basement underground in the front) Syd and his team ended up have to dig down 12 feet in front of the house to reach the pipe, and down 8-1/2 feet under the sidewalk - way deeper than they initially estimated. As a result, they needed a couple extra men to help with the excavation/replacement (replaced Orangeburg with PVC and replaced existing water main with new copper line). We had HUGE mounds of dirt in our front yard and had to have three bushes pulled out as part of the excavation. *However, work was started/water shut-off at 7:30am, pipe replacement work was completed in order for the County Inspector to review, and the water was turned back on and we were flushin' again by 12:30pm - SAME day! :-) They did a pretty decent job packing down the removed dirt (had a couple different machines to assist with packing down the soil to prevent later cave-ins due to settling) and replacing the bushes after the work was done. All things considered, we thought they did a fabulous job for the money!

I contacted four plumbing companies for proposals to connect my home to county provided sewage vice existing septic system. Syd's was the quickest to respond, best cost proposal and had come to my attention with rave reviews. Syd and his crew were on site each day, early and ready to work. They had a difficult job to work around my buried electric and communications services. They worked extremely well together and were respectful of my property and the neighbors. They are an affable group of guys and were enjoyable to have around. They were very serious about doing the work safely and properly but were having fun doing it. They started when they said they would and despite more hand digging than originally expected, finished as scheduled. The job took three days. I would not hesitate to hire Syd and his crew again. Based on my positive experience, my neighbor also hired Syd's to convert their septic system.

He was great. He replaced it for a very good price. It's a small business and he is just extremely knowledgeable and thorough.

We were very happy with the work done by Syd and his team. He took care of the permitting and inspection by Fairfax County, was prompt and did not exceed his estimate. His team was very hardworking, professional and courteous, working from 7 to 7 each day. Even though adding the sewer line was an expensive necessity, Syd's Plumbing made the process a breeze!

Right before Christmas my sewer line backed up, and I found that it had been infested by roots and needed to be replaced. The main sewer line ran to a T at the county sewer line about a foot underneath where my shed was built in my back yard which scared me because I didn't want to take down the shed as well. I had multiple people come out and to estimate the work and I chose Syd's plumbing for a few of reasons: 1-The price was the lower comparatively and it was a firm price for the job (meaning no matter how hard the work was if the scope didn't change the price wouldn't change) 2-He was the only plumber who actually confirmed the depth of the sewer line 3-He would dig underneath instead of having me tear down the shed which was a big money saver 4-He would use an excavator that wouldn't require me to pull up fence posts and have to rebuild the fence entirely. 5-No upfront charges...I only paid when work was complete Because this was so close to the holiday we pushed the work to early January. As the initial date approached (Monday the 1/10), we had to push the work to the following Tuesday because he went to the wrong office to fetch the permit (Fairfax county instead of City of Alexandria), and maybe they forgot to note that when I was asked. They informed me of that late on Friday so I had to do some re-scheduling of work as I had planned to take the Monday off and work on Tuesday. Tuesday morning comes and at 6:30am (work was to start around 7) Syd called and informed me that he lost the keys to his truck and had to get them replace so we wouldn't be able to start work until Wed. I reshuffled work stuff again and work began Wednesday the 12th. That part was the only frustrating instance of their work. I tried to reflect that in the grade (punctuality & professionalism). I can't dream up a single complaint about the work. The work quality is excellent, and the crew (which included Syd) was courteous and hard-working. They arrived before 7am and worked hard all day, they asked before plugging in anything to my power outlets, and they avoided coming inside at all costs so they wouldn't get mud anywhere (even though there was snow on the ground and I offered for them to come inside and stay warm). They had to dig really deep in a pretty confined area and did a great job with that. Even though the root issue turned out to be much larger than expected, Syd and team did not change their price or complain about the work they were doing. Because of the root issue (and getting the City of Alexandria inspector back to verify the work) work had to extend to a second day to finish filling the hole and reseeding the area. Again no change in price or anything which was really appreciated as the cost of the effort was already so much. Things are functioning as expected now and should for 30+ years (according to the inspector). Syd guarantees his work for 10 years so it seems the warranty will never be needed. I'm really happy with the work he did and only put those B's on the report card to attempt to reflect the issues with the lost keys and getting the permits.
