Our gas fireplace stopped working and I arranged to have Williams Services come out and fix it. The technician showed up as promised, found defective part (igniter), replaced it, cleaned out fireplace and got it working. Since I was at work our nanny was home to let in the technician and give her a check. The technician (a woman) called me from her car as she was leaving to explain what she repaired, and said we could just mail in another check for the balance (to cover the replaced part). Fireplace works great now.

We were able to get an appointment about one week out, which was fine as it was not an emergency. The technician arrived within the promised 2 hour window; they called to let me know they were on the way when about 30 minutes away. We have a vented gas log fireplace that was operating erratically and just needed a general cleaning/service. The technician (Tracy) correctly identified the problem in about 30 seconds as well as noting other things that could be done to make the unit operate more efficiently. Tracy was extremely knowledgeable about the unit; and made adjustments to optimize operation of the fireplace. Tracy appeared happy to answer my questions and provided me with a great deal of useful information - seemed more interested in getting everything right as opposed to just getting in and out with our money as quickly as possible (unlike the last firm that did service). Everything was cleaned when service was completed - no sign they had been there aside from a much better operating gas fireplace. I will use them in the future and would not hesitate to recommend them for either repair or general maintenance.

FANTASTIC!! This is a wonderful company- prompt to return phone calls, set up appt's, considerate about calling when running a little behind so I could plan. They were clean and neat in the house, friendly, gave excellent explanations of everthing he was doing and why, and how we could best maintain the fireplaces since we'd never had them before. Darryl and his son and the office staff are all a pleasure to deal with and I can't recommend them highly enough!! I've already referred them to family and friends :)

The work was completed professionally, quickly and without any clean-up required afterwards. Mr. Williams informed me about the various built-in safety features of these gas fireplaces, and when asked provided a recommended service schedule. In addition, Mr. Williams took the time to answer questions unrelated to this specific job such as gas line requirements for a gas stove, and to recommend other contractors who could help with some other jobs I have yet to do.

On a Saturday morning we heard some chirping and realized that a bird had accidentally fallen down into the chimney. I turned on the gas fireplace for a second (just so the vent would open), and as soon as the bird dropped down, immediately shut it off. I shooed the bird outside, but then realized that the pilot light had gone out, and we could not re-start it. There was also some minor debris from the bird. I called Williams Services, and Mrs. Williams assured me that we were not in any danger, that there is an automatic shut-off valve and gas was not leaking. She scheduled a repair for Monday. Williams Services came out and not only cleaned the fireplace (taking EVERYTHING apart to do a thorough job) so that it looks as pristine as when we first moved in 14 years ago, but Mr. Williams also repaired the fireplace. Several years ago the switch to the fireplace stopped working properly, and we have to turn the fireplace off and on manually, using the switch that is inside the fireplace behind the glass (and is difficult to get to). I had called someone out at the time the fireplace stopped working, and he informed me that the repair would cost $800, money that we did not have at the time. Mr. Williams took one look at the light switch and determined that the wires had been installed incorrectly to begin with. He fixed it quickly, and charged us the flat rate to come out. I was amazed. I will use this company in the future when we replace our gas stove (they install those as well). Really impressed with the work and professionalism, and the feeling that I was not ripped off in any way.

I will use this service in the future and tell others about them because they are quite skilled and very good at what they do.

They are very thorough. They do everything and double check their work. It is a family owned business, they are personable, and I felt like they knew what they were doing.

We have a gas fireplace in our living room that would no longer light. We also wanted to move the gas line for the fireplace to expand the niche for our TV over the fireplace. We were able to schedule the service within a week of our call. Darryl and his wife showed up on time. They prepared the are to protect from dirt while cleaning and servicing the fireplace. After evaluating the gas line, they explained that moving the line would be fairly expensive because the line likely ran through all 3 floors of the townhouse. They recommended the at could frame the niche closer to the existing gas line, which would give us the space we needed. They then proceed the repair the gas logs. The repair took less than the scheduled hours. Since there was a one hour minimum charge, my husband asked them to service our second fireplace in the bedroom. They completed both services within the hour and left the work area very clean. We are very happy with their response time and the time they took to answer our questions.

While plumbers typically handle gas work in the home, it seems there are few options in the DC metro area for this type of work. Williams Services were referred to me by more that one plumbing contractor. Turns out this is great husband and wife team - prompt call backs, on time appointments and professional service. Rescheduling, permits and various changes were handled with ease. The list of contractors that get repeat business from me is very short - they are at the top. I will hire them to install gas logs this fall.

Tracy and Darryl were very knowledgable and professional and the work turned out much better than I hoped. They worked continuously during the several hours it took to install the pipe but were happy to answer my questions as the work progressed.

Tracy came out the same day I called, was helpful, friendly, professional and did a great job.
