The Grout Medic - Northern VA

I stopped George, an employee of Grout Medic, for information while he was on a service call with a neighbor. He was exceedingly courteous and provided me with a business card. Asked me to call the number provided to set up an estimate and informed me that this company was listed on Angie's List. I set up an estimate. George showed up promptly at the scheduled date/time. Price was provided, and he answered all of my questions. Work was performed on the date agreed to. George arrived on time, performed the work, cleaned up afterwards (i.e., vacummed), thanked me for my service, and departed. All in all, very professional encounter from start to finish.

It went very well during both visitsl(See above). The tiles look like new and, in retrospect, I am glad that the plumber erred initially in his diagnosis because I have enjoyed my rejuvenated bathroom! On the second visit, I was also given information about the pros and cons of installing a new shower door vs. using a shower curtain.

I called and spoke to Dana Collins in April about cleaning/resealing the ceramic tile and grout in my kitchen, foyer and powder room. George Collins came and did the estimate a week later and the work was scheduled for May 12, 2011. George showed up on time for both the in-home complimentary estimate and service appointment. He was very professional, personable and was very good around my 3 small dogs. He looked over the areas of the work, inspected the Italian ceramic tile and provided me with an estimate, which I understood to be the same as the services that I had requested when I spoke to Dana when I scheduled the estimate, which was cleaning and resealing the grout AND ceramic tile, which is an Italian rustic ceramic tile that has divets where dirt has collected over the years and clearly needed to be cleaned. I even showed him a previous area where tile/grout cleaning was previously attempted by another services provider on Angie's list where you could see the difference between a clean surface tile vs one that wasn't cleaned, and he indicated that they could clean it. George showed up promptly on the actual appointment day to do the work and was very efficient and prompt. He was very thorough with regards to the grout cleaning and explained the process. However, he only cleaned and sealed the grout, but not the tile surfaces, which was a separate cost. It was evident (at least to me) that the tile surfaces needed to be cleaned as well. George explained that the tile surface was "inadvertently cleaned" when cleaning the grout, but it was a separate cost to thoroughly clean the tile surfaces. Long story short, after a few calls and emails, Grout Medic came back out to clean the tile surfaces for an additional $195. I was ultimately happy with the work and they way they handled the situation, however, going forward, it would be helpful to other customers if they clearly indicate the costs associated with grout vs tile cleaning and evaluate the tile surface carefully and advise the client if there's an additional cost at the time of the estimate.

Had the same company in 3 years ago to do similar work in the master bath. The two gentlemen did an excellent job: the finished product looks excellent. In fact it looks better than the work that was done 3 years ago and we were quite happy with that work. They arrived when they said, did their work, and left a very satisfied customer. I will call them again if I need additional work done.

I was pleased with the work. George was at the house on time. He did the work quickly, but thoroughly. He even gave me tips on how to maintain the surfaces to avoid future problems as long as possible.

Very easy to schedule them to come out for a visit to get a quote. They explained their process very well and outlined costs clearly. Scheduled for May 25th, but they called me and asked me if they could actually come out early on the 17th to do the work. I was real happy that they did that. Scheduled for two days of work but completed it in one day. The overall work appears to be of highest quality. They cleaned up very well. Overall I would highly recommend them for your next job.

Owner David responded quickly to my inquiry; visited our home and gave estimate. Dante performed work. He was professional, thorough in both the work and explaining the dos and don'ts of proper maintenance; and good humored about having to dodge landscape work that was going on right in front of the entrance to our house - nothing was tracked in and he left the work area in pristine condition. The floor is gorgeous now making me wish we'd had Grout Medic here long before!! I was particularly relieved that our need was not considered too small a job. I have no doubt they did as great a job for us as they must do for more expansive projects. 'Would not hesitate to recommend and utilize their services again!

Both days they were late (35 - 50 minutes - called 1st day to let me know after 30 minutes late). Were neat, clean, kept the dust way down. Did a good job - it looks great. Even did some extra touch - ups to make the job more complete (caulked the sink), etc.

We were unsure of how much regrouting and caulking we wanted to do. David split the estimate into sections i.e. shower area, tub area, floor area so I could choose to do work now if needed leave other sections for later. The two man crew showed up on time and completed 2 of the bathrooms in one day. They had to come back to do the third bathroom in order to leave one bathroom available for use while the other 2 set. There was a little confusion regarding one section's estimate that David cleared up immediately. This was due to a miscommunication between his crew and what we had asked to have done. We were satisified with the job except for one section. David had his crew correct it to our satisfaction. The reason for the B is for the price and rework on one section. Otherwise it would have been a A job.

It was excellent. They explained what was going on, were very honest, and did a great job. You can't even tell that repairs were made.

I have covered most of this above. But I wish to add that Buck's prompt email responses, and his follow-up on the ordering delay and installation problems was very good.

David (franchise owner) was very responsive to the inital call for an estimate. When we called to schedule appointment to have work done, the next appointment was approximately 30 days out. On the night before the work was to be performed, we hadn't received a confirmation phone call. We called and left a message that night. The company called the next morning to confirm the appointment. The technician was punctual and very professional. He did the work and didn't leave a mess. Unfortunately, upon inspection of the work, we found that the old grout was not removed as was specified in the estimate. Also, the epoxy was not the color specified in the estimate. The tech used a color that was obviously mismatched. We called David (franchise owner) and e-mailed him pictures of the work that was done. David came out the next day (with the same tech) and did the job as specified in the estimate. We are happy with the final results, just disappointed that the job had to be done twice.

Very impressed - professional in every way. Honest too.

I called Grout Medic based on the Angie's List recommendations. At first I contacted the Fairfax Grout Medic which had been the subject of the Angie's List review. They advised that for my location, I needed to contact the Arlington/Alexandria franchise, which I did, and I spoke with Dana Collins. Dana set up an appointment for Buck Collins to take a look and provide an estimate. Buck arrived as scheduled, and was very pleasant and professional, and inspired considerable confidence and trust. He provided an estimate, and I subsequently scheduled the work with Dana. As was Buck, the technician that they sent to do the work (George), was very pleasant and professional, and went out of his way to ensure that the job was done as agreed, and that I was satisfied. When there was a question on the right color of grout to use, George adjusted his schedule to allow for him to bring me color samples, and still get the job done soonest, as we had been unable to use that shower pending completion of the work. He also worked hard to remove/replace the drain cover in the shower stall, and was comfortable calling in a colleague more experienced with plumbing/tile aspects to help with that, to ensure that the tile/drain were not damaged in the process. After the initial work was completed and by the third week, I started noticing some spots where the grout was lifting. Buck had told me at the time of the estimate that they guaranteed their work for 30 days, but that if I had any problem within or after that, to give him a call. I did that, and Dana advised that Buck, himself, would come out to take a look. He did that late-November, and came back to re-do some of the grout work on/about December 3, also himself, despite a heavy schedule as his crew was out of town for training. He also removed/adjusted one of the drain cover screws, which was elevated as a piece of the old screw had broken off and precluded replacement in a manner that would be flush and not be felt barefoot. The particular grout line that required re-doing apparently is particularly tricky as the tiles on either side of it were not layed fully level by the builder, to start with. While he was here, I mentioned to Buck that I am considering adding a hand-held shower head to the jacuzzi tub in the same bathroom. Again, he took the time to check on access and whether or not one could be insta lled while waiting for the grout to dry, and went the extra mile subsequently in advising on shower head brands/sources, if I wanted to follow-up. I have used the re-grouted shower stall now since Dec. 6, 2010, and thankfully, so far, so good --- although I don't want to jinx myself by saying that! That said, I also take comfort knowing that per past performance and Buck's repeated advice, if I do have another problem of the new grout popping out, I can call on Buck and his crew, and believe that they won't let me down. Not only am I gratified to find a contractor with an attitude of professionalism and high standards of quality and ethics, but I am equally gratified to find folks who are gracious and really good people. It's a pleasure to do business with them, and have them in my home. Not only do I know that if the same problem arises again, I can (and will) call on them, but I plan to call on them also if I decide to do any bathroom remodeling, as they also own a company that does that kind of work. Hats off to Buck Collins, George (and his colleague who removed the drain cover), and Dana Collins! Based on my experience with these folks, I am pleased, to recommend the Arlington/Alexandria Grout Medic to other Angie's List members, and have already recommended them to friends and family.

I was very pleased with my experience with The Grout Medic. I met with Mr. Collins who gave me a thorough explanation of what could and could not be done to my bathroom to make it look its best, was true to their price estimate and was able to come out and complete the work within a week of our meeting. While working on the tub the technician noticed a leak in the faucet and was able to call a master plumber that works for this company who came out the same day and fixed it for a nominal fee- I really appreciated this as if he had let it go, mold would have regrown and negated all the work put into the recaulking and regrouting in a matter of months. I was most impressed with Mr. Collins' responsiveness to my calls and emails. No question was too small during the process, and he followed up immediately after the work was done to insure everything was done to my satisfaction. I plan to re-tile my bathroom floor later this year and will be using this company for the work.

I saw them on Angie's List and somewhere else. The job went really well. They did a very good job. The clean-up was very good. They completed the job on time. I had a couple of special items, and they did those with no problem. I was pleased with their service. They were very responsive. They were always on time, and they did what they said they were going to do. They were either punctual or they called to say that they were late. Even if they were late, they were always able to accomplish what they said they were going to do for that day.

The work went very well. We are very pleased with the results. Our shower and garden tub look brand new! We would definitely hire Grout Medic-Aldie (Buck Collins and team) again.

So far, so good. It was a reasonable price for the work. The guy who did the quote was the owner and he was very knowledgeable about what his team would do and the types of products they would use.

The experience was very positive. They did a pretty thorough job to begin with and when there was something that went wrong with one of the products they used, they came out immediately to fix it. We didn't find any inconvenience at all.

A Grout Medic rep arrived on time for the evaluation and estimate. He suggested that they remove the affected caulk and grout and that it be replaced with a white epoxy. They also suggested that they remove some clear silicone caulk under which mildew had grown and that this be replaced as well. We accepted their estimate. They arrived on time to do the work. The job was absolutely EXCEPTIONAL in every respect. The tech even suggested and preformed some extra repairs at no charge. Our expectations were totally exceeded. I HIGHLY recommend this company.

The job done by them was fine. They did a good job. They were on time and they had a positive attitude. They cleaned up after themselves. They were quick and everything was fine. I was happy with the price that they charged. I would use their services again if I need to get the same type of work done.

From the initial estimate to the completion of the job, they were prompt, polite and courteous. The work was completed in one day as promised, and the result was fantastic. The shower looks new and the clean-up was extremely well done. The cost was exactly as quoted in the estimate. We would highly recommend this company.

We were almost ready to have all of our bathrooms completely ripped out and retiled. Grout was missing and discolored, with very few broken tiles. Then, we saw an ad for the Grout Medic and decided to try them in one small bathroom. We were contacted for an estimate, which was far more reasonable than replacing tile. When both the estimating and repair appointments were scheduled, they arrived on time, went straight to work and worked to completion. After repair and during drying time, we inspected their work and were shocked--it was as if we had brand new tile in a brand new bathroom. We were so impressed that we scheduled them to regrout the other bathrooms. We had to work around their schedules and our guests' arrival, but we are pleased beyond words at their work! There was very little 'mess' or 'dust'. When they were finished, they cleaned up completely. In one of our bathrooms, they even tried to steam clean the recent tile installation to remove stains but to no avail, as we suspected. At least they were willing to try. They, then, went to work to regrout this floor and again, we were shocked at the difference! I gladly paid them and away they went! Several friends contemplating retiling have looked at their work and plan to schedule regrouting in their homes. This is probably the best $2K we have ever spent in this house!
