The Grout Medic - Northern VA

The whole experience was exactly what you want from dealing with home service contractors: I emailed over a weekend and they called me promptly on Monday morning and set up an appointment for just a few days later. Pleasant people on the phone.At the appointment, they looked at both our bathrooms and gave alternatives, and provided written estimates. We set up the repairs for a few weeks later (the only part that I wish was a little different...would've liked to get it done sooner, but I do understand).The workmen were prompt, very clean, and did super work. The work took about 1 and a half days. And I got the Angie's list 10% off the written estimate, without even asking for it.

The company called and asked if it was possible to come earlier since they had cancellations. The workmen came and laid out the tile cementing it to the concrete. They were remarkably clean and tidy for this type of work! After they left you could barely tell they were there. I selected a grout color which looked good with the tiles and they returned the next day to do so. There is now a new (for me) sealant ($45) that can be mixed in with the new grout to reduce discoloring and mold; I added that to the cost so with the 10 percent discount it came to $745. Every thing went smoothly; the workmen were very professional and performed the job cleanly and efficiently.

This was a fantastic experience. I just joined Angie's list on January 2nd and started searching for someone to recaulk my shower. I found Grout Medic and it had great reviews. I emailed the company to request an estimate. Dana emailed me back that afternoon to say that they were closed that day and would get back to me tomorrow. She called me this morning as promised and scheduled my appointment for 11:00 today. George called to let me know he was on his way around 10:30 so I'd expect him. He came in gave me the $200 estimate and asked if I'd like the work done now. I was ecstatic that; a) it wasn't very expensive and b) that he was able to get it done right away. George was very clean and professional in his work, he explained each step of the process as he did it and explained to me how to best keep the new caulking looking good. There is no way that this experience could have been any better!

Dave Muirhead was a pleasure to work with - friendly & professional. Dante was the staffer that actually came out and did the work for us, and he was prompt, tidy, and thorough. As a relatively new first-time homeowner, I had some anxiety about hiring the right people for home repairs. Mr Muirhead. put my mind at ease right away and clearly knew what he was doing. His office staff confirmed all our appointments via email and were easy to get in touch with when I needed to adjust the scheduled work date. This was my first reference through Angie's List, and I could not have been more pleased.

I have no complaints; they did a very good job. They were on time, they were professional, and they were in and out. The price was very reasonable and I am satisfied.

After seeing business ad in local newspaper, I checked Angie's List for references. Got a prompt visit and estimate from repairman and then scheduled work. Repairman was running ahead of schedule on day work was to be done and called to see if he could come by early which he did and completed work quickly and very satisfactorily.

Contacted Grout Medic to spruce up a couple of tile floors that were in good condition but looked dingy due to the discoloration of the old white grout. George came out to take a look and was very knowledgable about marble tiles, talked me through the process and helped me select the best grout. He was very flexible in working around other work being done AND was very responsive when we had a leaky shower, adding that to his immediate to do list. The floors look great and the shower hasn't leaked since!

WOW! I am thrilled with the work performed by the GroutMedic team. I had a leak in my master shower and had tried plumbers and handymen. When Dave came to give me an estimate, it was extremely clear that he knew what to look for -- he located the issues and gave me a variety of options and costs from the minimum needed to stop the leak to making the bathroom look like new. I chose to make the bathroom look like new. The team arrived on time and were extremely professional and polite. They took the time to carefully listen to the problems and then specifically made sure that all the issues were addressed as they completed their work. They did not cut any corners, but rather went above and beyond to make sure that the finished product was perfect. They were so neat and careful. My bathroom looks brand new, and it cost about 1/4 of what a remodel would have. I plan to have them back to regrout 2 additional bathrooms.

Two days after grouting, tile turned brown. Vendor explained that this is called "bleeding" and results from the tiles being disturbed. Returned and redid - twice in one bathroom and 3 times in the other. The problem still exists. Vendor explained that in one bathroom the tiles were previously broken. In the other bathroom, vendor explanined that the problem is that the tiles "are too close together." Debris and "ash" from the job covered the entire bathroom and ajoining bedrooms. Grouting very untidy and messy. Grout was left on shower doors, sinks and floors. Extremely messy. In one case, the grouting on the floor was not removed ( I noticed this because I could see the old cracks through the grout which was placed over it) and the vendor explained that the old grout was too hard to remove and his tools would break if he tried any harder.

They were excellent. The gentleman who came out first to investigate everything, he gave a proposal. He provided a discount because I was an Angie’s List member. The gentleman was clearly knowledgeable. He carefully examined everything. He shared with me the pros and cons of everything we were dealing with. The grout in the entry way was cracking so he figured the tiles straddling a beam were the ones cracking and causing the problem. The subfloor he figured should be thicker and made me aware that the grout could crack again. In my master bath shower they used epoxy in the grout and assured me that should never crack or come out again. When they began to work on the shower, the gentleman realized halfway through that between the shower and the wall was quite damp. They did not finish the work because they wanted the wooden panel to dry out before they completed the work. I very much appreciate their professionalism and their work. I would highly recommend them. Their honesty was very much appreciated.

David quickly responded to my email requesting a free estimate of the work that was needed. The appointment was scheduled on September 29th, and David arrived promptly. He was professional, knowledgeable, and courteous, and I trusted his opinions on the work that needed to be done. Wanda scheduled the work to be done, and because two bathrooms were involved, she scheduled two separate appointments, a week apart, on October 7th and October 14th, so that we could use one shower while the other was worked on and allowed to set. She was very patient as I tried to figure out the best timetable for my family, and even called the day before each appointment to remind me of the scheduled work. Dante, who performed the work, was punctual, professional, and very friendly. In my childrens' bathroom, he willingly caulked around the bathtub ceiling light, as well as replaced the caulk around two tub guards, caulking I hadn't realized needed to be redone when I talked to David. Dante also left the areas where he worked spotless. All in all, I'm very pleased with the work done by the Grout Medic team. I can now take showers without cringing at the mildewed caulk or worrying about water seeping into cracks in the grout and damaging the walls. I definitely recommend their services, and will be using them again should the need arise. Thanks to all!

The service provider was very friendly and helpful. As he was removing tiles, I realized he might be able to replace the bathtub faucet which would leak water when someone showered. He agreed to do so, and explained exactly what type of faucet to look for. While he worked, I rushed to the nearby Home Depot and purchased the faucet, and he replaced it without charging extra. I really appreciate such excellent service.

I contacted the company after doing research on Angie's list. We agreed upon a date to appraise the situation and that date came without incident or postponement. I asked them for 3 different appraisals so that we could look at our budget and see what we could afford. We opted for just the shower at this point in time and they agreed without any additional sales pitch to do the additional items we had requested appraisals for. The assigned contractor showed up and was able to do the work in a 2 day time frame mainly due to certain items needing to be dried before completion. The work looked great and payment with Angie's list coupon was accepted. When I noticed a very minor spot that needed a touch up they were very efficient and got the same gentleman back so that the repair was done and the shower could dry appropriately for use upon our return from our impending trip. We were very impressed with the professionalism and positive attitudes.

In the first 2 bathrooms, which had seen quite a bit of use over the past 25 years, grout was replaced,cleaning was applied where needed. The results are great. In the third bathroom, newer and used less often than the other two, the grout was cleaned and caulking applied. The results in all 3 bathrooms are terrific. There arose some question as to whether or not the plywood backing was sufficient for the tile deck it supported. It supposedly had too much flex to properly support grouted tile. A visit by the tile company estimator (who is also the company president) showed the honesty of the company when he told us that, given the amount of use the deck received, the flex of the plywood was not a concern. Price wise they are not the least expensive company. Their estimates were comparable. The felt they proposed more work for slightly higher price. The end result showed us it was worth it. In summary, we are impressed by the quality of the work and the professionalism and integrity of the people associated with Grout Medic and its associated company, Collins Tile & Stone of Arlington. We are very pleased and would hire them again.

We bought a house in Arlington and needed to freshen it up a little before we moved in. I met with Buck Collins to go over the project and see what my options were regarding the really dull, old looking tile that was in our bathrooms. Buck seemed like the type of guy you knew was actually giving very good advice, not just something to cost you more money. I ended up hiring his tile company I liked him so much for unrelated (to this job) tile work. But as far as the Grout Medic work, his brother George actually performed the back breaking work removing (by hand) the extremely hard grout that was in our bathroom and shower/tub walls in 3 bathrooms. He regrouted those areas with new advanced grout which didn't need sealing. The regouting process does a very good job of cleaning the tile also, which was great because we literally hadn't touched the tile because we hadn't moved in. He recaulked the areas around the tub & wherever else necessary. I also paid extra to steam clean the floors which were a different type of tile set in concrete. These didn't come clean that well and I learned later it's almost impossible to clean this type concrete grout because it's basically concrete colored which can't come any whiter (Unless you jack-hammer the floor out, which I didn't want to do). George cleaned up after each day's work (3 bathrooms took almost 3 full days) and was a really nice trustworthy guy. If I had another dull looking bathroom whose tile was beaten up and could use their services I would definitely hire them again.

The service person was very professional and gave us tips on cleaning that won't damage the grout.

They replaced them and matched the grout. I was very pleased

They are not cheap but the price was reasonable. I use them because they are meticulous and show up on time. There was a cleanup issue after they finished the project and they came back the same day we called to correct the problem. They were neat and the job is very nice. When they come to give an estimate the bid is very thorough and professional. It is itemized and they do a really good job. I will use them again in the future.

We received estimates from Grout Medic to perform work on the Master Bathroom shower. We received 2 estimates from Grout Medic; one to repair the shower, and the other one to tear out the shower and rebuild it. We chose to rebuild the shower. David from Grout Medic provided the estimates and he was excellent. He answered all of our questions and provided alternatives and options that we could choose to get the job done. James and Jason came to the house to perform the work. They both are great to work with -- pleasant, helpful, etc. Additionally, they did an excellent job rebuilding the shower! My wife and I are extremely pleased with the company, their personnel, and the quality of work performed. We are so pleased that we are contracting them to do work on our powder room.

Although Dante was delayed by traffic, he made sure I got a call alerting me he was a tad late--but still within the window given to me. He was very thorough and professional. The work was done on time and right on the estimate. I will certainly use this company again, and highly recommend it.

Worked with Dana in the office to set-up the appointment. She was very responsive, able to answer all my questions and scheduled the service for the next week. George arrived promptly at the scheduled time and completed the work in about two hours. He was very professional, did a good job of cleaning up after he was finished and gave me instructions on how best to care for my newly grouted tile surround. Also gave me a great suggestion for a company to repaint my tub (it was an off-white color and we wanted it painted white). Took his recommendation and hired National Tub & Tile who were just as fantastic to deal with as the Grout Medics. Great experience and the tiles looks great! Would use their services again.

Very friendly and professional. Were easy to deal with. As a small operation they were kinda busy so getting them scheduled for a quick turnaround was a little difficult, but they did everything on time, with quality and at the quoted price.

On the day of the estimate, the estimator arrived on time and gave two written, detailed estimates (one for each bathroom). He thoroughly checked the areas where the grout was missing to see if there was any rotten wood that would require more extensive work. In our situation, this was not the case. The day before each bathroom was to be worked on, we received a reminder of the time the workman would arrive the next day. The hall bathroom was done first and completed in less than one day's time. The master bathroom was started and completed two days later. This form of scheduling allowed us one functional bathroom while the other one was "unavailable" for use. The quality of the work is stellar. It looks like it did on the day we purchased the house 25 years ago. There was attention to detail. For example, a disposable shoe cover was placed over the shower head to prevent any water drop during the drying period. There was absolutely no mess left behind. Both my husband and I are delighted with the work, the price, and the attention to detail. We would absolutely use their services again if needed and would recommend them to anyone if they were in need of a bathroom "refresher". I can only hope that our other planned projects goes as well. This is my first use of Angie's List and I'm a very please homeowner.

My call was answered immediately by Wanda. An appointment was set up with David who arrived on time and he was able to give me an estimate immediately. Two separate work sessions were scheduled for each bathroom at no extra charge in order to give us access to a shower within the 2-3 day setting period. Dante came out for both jobs. The baths look beautiful and very professionally done. When the job was completed, the rooms were left totally clean. Each of the three people I dealt with were true professionals in every sense of the word. It was a pleasure doing business with them and I would recommend them highly to family and friends. Angie's coupons were honored on both occasions with no hesitation. Great experience!

. I thought they would have to replace all of the grout. But they did not. They were able to clean the entire floor, save the gout and put a grout stain on it to back the original color and my floor has not looked this nice since it was put in. It looks beautiful and they said it would last probably a good 10 to 15 years. They were terrific. They were excellent. They did a beautiful job. My floor is gorgeous. They were very polite and he gave me two options. He said if I did not want to go the extra route I could just have them clean up and that would be half the price of them going and staining it. But then that would not have looked nearly as nice. So he was very straight forward about what would be the cost. He was friendly and very thorough about explaining what would happen and who would be coming, what would be involved and how much time. That was very clear. It actually turned out better than I could ever have imagined. They were very friendly and open and explained very thoroughly to me what was going on with the grout and made sure that I was comfortable with what they were going to do. So all around he was excellent. I would say that whoever uses them would be pleased. Price wise they seemed reasonable. I will use them in the future.
