The inspector that came by, came a half hour late, was very rude and aggressive. The service they offer sounded great and at a good price. However, due to the interaction we had with the inspector, will not plan to work with this company

I am an out of state landlord who intrusted his property to Senate to monitor and control pests and termites since 2013. Just recently my tenants opened a work order with the property management office. In turn, our property mgmt. office contacted Senate to be informed that we no longer had termite coverage. It expired in 2016 without notification. The estimate we were told included drilling multiple holes into the foundation. However, the technician came out to complete the job he determined a better course of action was to spray instead of drilling. When I called to discuss the price and talked to several people including Nick; I was told they did what needed to be done and the price would not change. They charged me $1,420.00 for a couple of hours of spraying. Nick was very rude and made it clear that he didn’t care whether he kept my business or not.

I signed up with Senate Termite in 2000. I paid somewhere around $3000 to have them place down termite traps and got the $100,000 damage insurance. It was my understanding that I would need to pay $100 every quarter and my protection would continue as long as I owned my home. In 2008, Senate came back and told me the traps I had down needed to be replaced and I needed to pay another $3000+ for this. I was super frustrated and got the salesman to insure that this was the last time they would come back to me for more money and that I would just pay my $100 a quarter going forward. Well... Senate just came back and let me know that I needed another liquid treatment applied for around another $3000 if I wanted to keep my $100,000 damage insurance. I am canceling my contract with them and will shop around. I suggested to Senate that they work with their salespeople to be clear about expected costs with future customers. If you plan to have your house for 10 years or less, I think Senate would be fine since they won't likely come back to ask for more money. I would not recommend signing up with them unless you feel they are very clear about expected future costs. I could go on and on about my frustration with how their story changed in my eyes over time. First it was the traps had to be replaced and paid for again. Now it is the liquid must be reapplied or my insurance lapses. I always felt good about using a local company instead of a National chain, but I can't recommend them.

I am an out of state landlord and it frustrates me when contractors attempt to take advantage because I'm not there to see what's going on. Therefore, I always get more than one quote for services. Anyway, I was contacted by Senate Termite & Pest Control because I requested their free estimate; John Gray, the representative, came the same day and did an initial inspection. Although he was very pushy with his sales pitch, I told him that I would probably go with the one time trapping service for $345.00 and subscribe to the $90.00 quarterly subscription service that he recommended. However, I told him that there was another company coming by and that as a courtesy, I would at least hear their proposal. At this point, John became very rude and unprofessional by stating "I thought you wanted to get rid of the mice!" He went on to say "I can't believe you had me to drive all the way out here, you've got to be kidding me!", then abruptly hung up the phone. By the way, the gentleman from the other company (named same as a grocery store in the area) came that same evening, stated the immaculate condition in which the tenants were maintaining the property and that there was no need for a subscription; as he saw exactly the point where the mice were entering the house. He sealed the entrance, baited the mice inside and outside and guaranteed his work for six months for $295.00. That's a $230.00 savings by simply comparing quotes.

Not sure if I spoke with the Senate's Manassas branch or a different one. But here's what happened. I'm female. I called to have a free termite consultation. The person I spoke with said he would only come out if my husband could be there, too. I take care of the repairs in our household. If a man made the same request, would Senate have insisted that his wife be there? I doubt it. After our initial contact, the guy at Senate I initially spoke with made several calls to schedule. Apparently they're not that busy. Wonder why.

I had bees under a wood trim under the fireplace in the backyard, they requested pictures and I sent it to them. They agreed to perform the work and they sent a technician to my house who then said that he cannot treat the hive because it was under the wooden trim. Instead, they spread the entrance with a can (available in home depot for 4 bucks) and said that all the activity will disappear in 2 days. Nothing changed so I sprayed the area again myself and sealed the entrance with foam. My issue with them is clarity, they saw the pictures, agreed to do the job and named the price. No one said anything about not being able to do the job.

Technician was knowledgeable and professional. He informed me of the products used and how they worked and what I should expect as a result of the treatment.

Violated the "Do Not Call" law. I confronted them about it, and they knew exactly what they were doing and didn't care. If they're willing to violate this law I'm left to wonder what other laws they believe don't apply to them. Health, safety, fraud? The sales guy was very slimy. I registered a complaint with the FTC, but I doubt it will have much effect. I would not do business with these guys.

It sounds like these two projects are unconnected, but we knew that our attic insulation was poor and hadn't been updated since its 1952 construction. Both companies we got estimates from for the pest control also do attic insulation work. I got quotes from both (and checked into what usual rates would be), and Senate did a very good job in taking boxes down from our attic, cleaning and insulating the attic, then taking all our boxes back upstairs for storage. We've noticed an improvement already in our energy use. Senate did a good job on both the pest control and the attic insulation fronts.

They cold-called me at 8:15 in the evening and displayed no concern that our number is on the FTC;s Do Not Call list because -- hello --- we don't want our evenings interrupted by cold calls.

Recommend highly! Every person I dealt with was extremely knowledgeable, including the administrator. The technicians all had 15 plus years with the company and could answer all my questions. They were r punctual, efficient, courteous, and very professional. They stand behind their work and are willing to go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction.

We pay about $100 a month maybe a little bit more. We've had them for a long time and they do all sorts of services. I think probably every couple of years they'll come by and ask if you want to do anything else. They actually do home repairs too, I think. They were after us for a long time regarding getting the full termite thing and so we did eventually get it installed. So the $100 represents sort of mice and spiders and the inspections of that termite system, the in ground thing close to your house and they come and check it to see if any termites have taken up residence. They a little bit less regular. They came by the neighborhood when we first moved in and that's when we started using them and we never really looked into any other coverage. When we first moved in of course, we had all the openness and everything while the house was being built and after they started coming they got rid of most of the big spiders and stuff like that so we don't have those running across the den floor anymore. So I think the quality of their stuff is good. They have this thing where they weren't charging us enough and it really did take a while to get it straightened out. They were purchased by another company and I think they did an audit of all their records and that's how they noticed. So we sent the money but it didn't get credited for a while. They kept sending us bills. Finally it got straightened out but that took a while. They don't give you an exact time and normally they don't come into the house so you don't have to be there. They're pretty good with professionalism.. They wear shoe covers. If the track needs replacing they'll do that, they're pretty easy about that. Overrall, I think that they're service has been good and I would probably continue with them.

Absolutely excellent. The technician who came out was absolutely amazing. The technician explained everything he was going to do along with details of every insect. Definitely knew his stuff and how to remove every insect. I recommend Senate to every one out there who has any insect issue. The office staff was also very helpful. Jenny and Shatara were amazing with scheduling.

The service they provided was good and adequate. The service after the sale was bad. I didn't have any trouble with responsiveness. They came when they said. They could have not lied to me about required follow up.

They've been doing it for years and we have no termites.

It was very poorly run earlier on. For the last 10 years they've changed management, they changed process so we stuck with them. Their prices are competitive. They call before they come out.

Saul Tucker, one of the managers, gave me the best estimate. He gave a full run down and pricing of everything they were going to do. He was very efficient and proficient. He really knew what he was talking about.

My husband continues to keep them. I would not. This house was built in '87 and the original owners had set up termite traps and did the termite treatments. When we got the house in '92 we continued that every year. One year I had termites in my floors. Come to find out they weren't treating my house, they were treating the house up the street. One day the guy was supposed to come for a treatment and the guy from the office called and said, is he there? I said no. He said, well, he said he's there. I said, well, let me go and see if he's up the street and sure enough, he was up the street. I said, you're at the wrong house. No, I'm not. Yes, you are, you're at the wrong house, here's your boss, talk to him. When it came to renewing it I told them it was a good thing my husband was doing this because I would not use them ever again. They had to come and fix my floor for free but they cut holes in the basement ceiling to make sure there were no termites there and then they patched the hole but I had to repaint. It wasn't a free thing. There was a lot of pain and agony.

Came on time and very pleasant gentleman. However, I got a second opinion from another company who said termite damage was old and that I did not need treatment.

They are not really conscientious about checking all of the traps when we switch from one set of traps to a new set of traps. They did not recognize that they did not pull up one of the old traps and they didn’t check it for 3 different times. So that would be nice months that it was sitting there not being checked and that area wasn’t being covered. They send out one technician.

There are some techs that come and give detailed info and some that do not. I wish they'd all give us detailed information of their findings.

Their price is good. I've had to call them back once. They are good, haven't had any problem with them, and I like them. I called them once and they came right away. I don't have to be home, they just come out and do it. When I do have an appointment, they are always on time. I think their pricing could be better but, they're fine. I already have them, so I keep them.
