The work was performed on-time and met my expectations. They took care of the details nicely. For example, they fabricated the stair railing entirely in one piece, though it would have been much easier to do it in 2 sections. Also, during installation they had to make a few welds; they did all the welding outside of the house even though it meant they had to carry the railing back and forth. Finally, I had an existing outdoor railing done by a previous contractor-- RR added base plates to the bottom of the posts-- the base plates look good and help to keep water away from where the posts are anchored into the concrete. This was not part of the contract but was a nice touch that showed they pay attention to detail. RR's price was competitive with other quotes that I received.
Description of Work: Reliable Rails fabricated and installed a custom iron stair railing. The railing goes up the stairs and then at the top of the stairs it does a 180 and extends into a hallway railing.

Reliable Rails, Inc. was great from beginning to end (from scheduling my FREE estimate to the technicians completing the job)! Everyone was very polite and courteous and the technicians arrived were on time! That type of customer service is hard to find these days. Lawrence came out to measure before noon one day and I was shocked when I received the quote the same afternoon...talk about a quick turnaround. In the beginning I was unsure if I wanted a little décor in my rail; Bina helped me every step of the way and walked me through the website to see some of the styles they could do. We chose a more traditional style in the end but it was impressive to see everything they could do. It was great to talk to someone with so much knowledge. The rails look beautiful and are a great addition to our new home! I would recommend this company to my family and friends!

I went with black as required by the condo. I thought that they were expensive. I had two specs. I am having an issue with them. The railing is slowing starting to rust. I don't know what they did. It is in a covered area. They were supposed to handle it and they called me at the beginning of this week. I wrote to them right before the holidays. They asked me not to worry as they would come and handle it. They called me on Monday and said that they have been backed up but they have not come yet to do anything. I am trying to be patient about it. They put the rail in. They were not really fancy and it was not a fancy railing but they had a couple of tingles in them. The quality was poor because I thought that I had paid extra. They came pretty quickly when I wanted them to put in but they were slow in resolving the issue. I probably will not use them again. The sad thing was that I figured that if I used somebody from Angie's List then they would be decent. I am a little hesitant about using Angie's List because my understanding is that they get in there because they have quality. There wasn't another rail provider there and so, I thought that they would be good. I thought that they were expensive but I did not want to shop around as I needed the rail.

Response from Reliable Rails Inc
I apologize for the experience you stated that you had with us. We take great pride in our company and in the products that we produce. You did contact us on December 21st to address some concerns with your rail; I told you that we would be out to look at it the following week; the owner did come out to look at your rails to evaluate the problem and he did observe what you stated. As soon as all of our employees came back to work from the Christmas and New Year's holidays, we immediately sent them out to your place and we resolved the problem with your rail. I called and I left you two voicemail messages for you to return my calls and I also sent you a message via email to contact me, as I would like to put some positive closure to your experience with us. I do not want anyone to feel that we are unresponsive as that is not who we are. We take all responses from our customers at Angie's Lists (good or bad) and we learn from them. Our goal is to satisfy all of our customers; I am sorry that you feel that we did not meet your expectations; but we would never ever be unresponsive to our customers as our customers are our livelihood. Thank you for your time.

My parents who live in Arlington, VA, needed someone to recommend and install a railing for their exterior concrete steps. I looked on Angie's List and found that Reliable Rails had all very positive comments and was highly recommended by my fellow Angie's List users. Therefore I recommended Reliable Rails to my parents. They called and right away Lawrence Giles came out and recommended a railing and gave them an estimate. They liked him from the start. He was very nice, friendly, and professional in demeanor. After thinking it over a bit they decided to go with Reliable Rails. Lawrence Giles came out on the day he said he would, December 12, 2011, and proceeded to do a superb job in installing the railing. My parents love the quality of the workmanship on how their double rail was constructed, and they are extremely happy with how it looks in their yard. The railing is very sturdy because it has a third post. Most other wrought iron railings just have the end posts and not a post in the middle. Lawrence Giles was very efficient, very detailed oriented, and very neat. My parents are very pleased with how smooth and efficient the whole process was from the initial call to the end results. They would highly recommend Lawrence Giles and Reliable Rails to others.

Everything went better than expected. Bina was wonderful and helped guide me through the entire process from beginning to end. She walked me through picture samples on-line and made sure that she understood exactly what I needed. Lawrence came out and measured while I was at work (outside job) so I didn't need to take time off of work to discuss the estimate in person. They sent a thorough invoice outlining the work I requested. I then had some issues (on my end) that led to a delay in Reliable completing the work. They were understanding, patient and caring. Then I sent them an email that I was ready to proceed (Friday) and the railing was installed the next day! I then followed up with an email on Monday and received a phone call within half an hour answering all of my questions. Great customer service!

They came out and conducted an onsite assessment to take measurements and made recommendations on the best way to build the rail system. Very polite and easy to work with. The built the system on time and showed up when they said they would. Installation went off without a hitch and we are very pleased with the whole process and value for our money.

RR called us one morning and asked to come by that day. Short notice, but we were ok with that. RR replaced the damaged pieces, welding everything back together and resetting in concrete at all three points where it was affixed to the ground (instead of just the two we had requested. The quality is very good and the disturbance to the existing concrete was smaller than I expected. It is sturdy and looks great. They needed access to an exterior faucet which we were not told prior to work beginning. If the faucets had been turned off and we were not home, I'm not sure that work could have proceeded. Only a week after the work was completed, rust appeared on the new iron work. I notified the company and they came by at no charge and addressed the problem.

Lawrence from Reliable Rails came out to give us an estimate. He was on time and professional when we met. He provided both estimates the next day. They were not the cheapest or most expensive estimate we got but they were the only one willing to do the small repair on our rental. The estimate for our rental home repair was $400. We had them do the work on the rental home first. They did a great job. After that we decided to proceed on our homes new railings. We could not decide on what style of railing we wanted on our home so they provided multiple pricing options. We wanted to see the options in person and they arranged to meet us at their shop when it was convenient to our schedule. Lawrence spent over an hour with us going over different options. He provided us some wonderful ideas. The final estimate for the railings with powder coating $1710. A few weeks later they installed the railing and cleaned up the job site. The railings look excellent. They turned out better that I would have imagined.
Description of Work: 1) On our rental home we had them replace a broken railing with a new railing. 2) On our home we had them install 2 new railing on our stoop and down the stairs. Railings were to have 2" hand rail with straight pickets with collars.

My parents (Seniors) who live in Rockville, MD tried to find a company to install a small exterior wrought iron railing to run along steps that go from the sidewalk up to a walkway. They had contacted a company on August 16th who said they would come to provide an estimate on 8/18. The company never showed. I contacted the company on 8/22 to find out when they were coming. The owner told me he'd be there the next day, 8/23 at 10am. He never showed. I called the company and couldn't even leave a message because the voice mail box was full. I decided right then and there to find a company on Angie's List (I should have made this the first step!) I read the reviews for Reliable Rails Inc and decided to give them a call to get an estimate. Keep in mind that this was an hour after the first company didn't show. I called and spoke to Bina who was friendly and professional. I described what my parents needed and Bina asked me pertinent questions to clarify the specifics. Bina then asked if I would be able to send her a picture of the area where the railing was to be installed. I asked if she could receive a cell phone generated picture. She could. I liked the idea of using technology to do the prep work for the estimate. I took a couple of cell phone pictures. As I was starting to send the pictures to Bina the EARTHQUAKE hit!!! Needless to say I stopped mid send and helped my parents to get to a safe place in the house (bathroom doorway!). Once we calmed down I sent the photos to Bina. Keep in mind that Bina is located in VA where the effects of the earthquake were probably felt the most. Anyway, Bina immediately contacted me. We first talked about the earthquake and then Bina gave me a verbal quote of $600. She told me that she was pretty shook (no pun intended) by the earthquake and was going to go home and would send me the written quote via email from home. In this short period of time I was impressed with Reliable Rails Inc and told them I would accept the estimate and wanted them to do the work. Bina told me that Lawrence would come by the next day between 10:30am and 12:45pm to measure. And sure enough, that evening Bina emailed me the quote. And sure enough, Lawrence arrived the next day in the time frame quoted. Lawrence told me he thought he could do the installation at the end of the week. In a follow up email with Bina, she thought it might be the beginning of the following week and that she'd let me know. I was pleasantly surprised when my parents called to let me know that the railing was installed on that Friday morning 8/26. (So Lawrence was right in his estimation) A gentleman named Tony did the work. My parents said he was professional and efficient. While Tony was there my father asked if he could add some base caps to already existing railings. Tony quoted the price, my father agreed to it and Tony installed them then and there. So the process began on 8/23 and was completed on 8/26. Reliable Rails, Inc. did what they said they were going to do and did it professionally and efficiently. I found Bina and Lawrence to be friendly and professional. And I admire their focus on the job in the midst of the earthquake.

I had contracted in May to have this work done for Mother's Day. Unfortunately the company did not do the work and would not return my deposit. My mom who is 91 years old was visiting her relatives and I wanted to have the work completed before she returned from her holiday. A friend told me about Angie's list and I joined and search for a rail installer and Reliable Rails, Inc. was selected. I called them and left a panic message that I wanted the work completed ASAP. I was surprised that I got a message from Bina Giles telling me that they were on holiday but would be back and could come over that Saturday. Sure enough Mr. Giles came over promptly (I was actually in the bathtub when he came). We talked by phone and he did all the measurements until I could finish my bath. He showed me samples and then said he would provide an estimate by the next day. That came promptly. We negotiated his estimate; agreed and the rest is history. His company did an excellent job installing the fence, gate, and walker. Important thing - my mom loves it and it makes the front of her house the most beautiful in the neighborhood. I would recommend this company wholeheartedly - they have been punctual, honest, caring (Bina called to asked how I was doing because she heard in my voice one day that I was upset after work) and most of all they do excellent work at a fair price. The workmen washed down the entry way after they completed the work. Their name really is true: They are very Reliable!

After foraging through hundreds of railing details on dozens of websites and magazine, I finally located one design that appealed to me. That was the easy part - next was locating a reliable (hint) contractor in the Washington area to perform the work. After literally months of striking out with contractors recommended from well-meaning friends and other sources, my neighbor used her subscription to Angie's List to prepare a list of A-rated iron workers from which I solicited quotes of which the best engagement came from Reliable Rails. Bina Giles, the business manager, was very responsive from the start. Bina is very proficient with electronic communications. I was able to email photos and a pdf attachment from the supplier's catalog of the type of balusters I wanted to use for the railing. She and husband Lawrence Giles ordered a sample and left it at my home. At the same time Lawrence took measurements and I received a quote within two days (maybe less). When I gave the OK, they placed the order for the materials and kept me informed as things progressed. Lawrence invited be to his fabrication shop to fine-tune and finalize the design. When the material arrived and as the rails were fabricated, Lawrence even sent photos for my approval (!). After the rails were completed, his installation guy arrived exactly at the scheduled time and was done in time for me to get to work on time! I've been told I could be a quite demanding. When my rails were installed, I was speechless. I am impressed with the service and quality of work I received from Reliable Rails and how accomodating Bina and Lawrence were to my concerns and schedule. One of my main purposes for joining Angie's List was to spread the word about the excellent service I received from Reliable Rails - the name says it all!

These folks are great! Lawrence Giles, the owner, came out and measured and explained the various options to us. For example, they explained the pro's and con's of a powder coated versus a painted rail. (We chose powder coated.) Shortly after that, they came out and installed the rail. It is both functional and decorative. Both their price and the quality of their product is great. We highly recommend them.

They came right out and gave an estimate for the repair, which was within reason compared to Long Fence, which wanted to replace the entire thing for over $1000. They emailed me the estimate. I had a couple questions and Mr. Giles called me to discuss. He said they could do the work the next day and I could pay in full, instead of mailing half in advance. They showed up the next morning and did the repair and it looks great. Problem solved.

I promised Bina I'd write a response of my experience. I did this for all future home owners in need of Reliable service. They'll get it from Reliable Rails and much more. Here's why: Any home buyer going through the approval/appraisal process knows the hurdles and variables you encounter at every stage. And with lightening speed, you need to act and react to help move the needle. Here's my story and how Reliable Rails earned, once again, the meaning of the word "reliable". On Wednesday of last week, I found out that we had to complete a few minor amends to our home before the FHA appraiser would approve the loan. These included fencing, painting and wrought iron welding. This was fine except that we were on a deadline to close THIS Thursday. In the first 3 minutes of conversation with Bina Giles, I felt with absolute certainty that she was bending over backwards to help. Not only did I get a confirmed yes, but the owner of the company agreed to send out a welder the next morning and complete the job same day. Beyond this, they proved they're more than just order takers, but thinkers by trying to understand further the issue at hand and explaining where I could save money now and long term. Just the feeling of "Hey, I'm going to help you even if I have to move mountains", seems to be lost with today's service industry. Well, I found it again with Reliable Rails. Thanks Bina and co. and Timothy, the welder, too. You guys worked together to save my hide and my pocket book.

Reliable Rails came to my house to provide me with options for an outdoor hand railing for the stairs leading to my front door. I wanted an ascetically pleasing railing that would also provide my older parents with safety and comfort when using my front exterior flagstone stairs. After agreeing on an appropriate style, Bina Giles (office manager/co-owner) emailed me their offer the very same day they came to my home for an estimate. They then arrived three days later to create a template and the final railing was installed two days later. From start to finish, the project was completed in less than one week. They have added style and safety to my front walkway stairs- success!

Excellent. Contacted company via e-mail on 4/11/11 to inquire about free estimate to repair or replace old, rusted rails. Bina Giles contacted me the next day to set up day and time. Lawrence Giles came out to the house on 4/15/11 to take a look at rails. He told us he would give two estimates: one to repair the existing rails and one to fabricate and install new ones. Bina e-mailed us the estimates that same evening. Though it was more expensive, we opted for the new rails since the old ones were rusted to death. Very glad we did! Bina advised that it would take 7 to 10 business days to have the rails made and installed. Lawrence called Monday 4/25/11 to advise that they would be out the next day to do the install. We were thrilled to come home from work on Tuesday to see our beautiful new rails. Excellent workmanship. Lawrence called later that evening to make sure everything was to our satisfaction, and it definitely was. The new rails make such a difference. We especially like the end caps at the bottom of each post - looks so much nicer than the original. We couldn't be more pleased with Reliable Rails and will recommend them to others! Lawrence and Bina are wonderful - very responsive, professional and personable. It was a pleasure to work with them, and we are happy to support a local, family owned business.

We were very pleased with the company from start to finish. The quality was very good and the installation team (Reliable's own, not some subcontractor) was very professional and polite. I initially made the mistake of googling fence panel suppliers and convinced myself that I could get the fence for $10,000. But then my 11 year old daughter and I spent weekends driving around looking at other fences, and even she could identify panel fences and aluminum fences from the car. After comparing prices of the other local wrought iron fabricators, we were satisfied that Reliable's pricing was great for the quality. Lawrence (owner) helped with design options and other considerations. For example, I originally planned on only 3-1/2 foot gates, and he pointed out that someday we might want to get something large in the yard and that we should have at least one 5 foot gate. (It reminded me of years ago when a tree fell in the yard of a former house and they had to take out lengths of fence to get the stump removal gear in.) He spent the time with us to consider ornamentation, picket sizes, etc., to get a nicely proportioned fence. I had been worried about how the fence would work in our yard given that it is triangular, wrapped in trees, and with a somewhat rolling terrain. Reliable Rails dealt with all of that. When one of the hills caused a gap under a gate that I thought our dog could get through, they came back the next day to add another channel (no charge) to close the gap. The even crafted fencing on-site so that the fence could appear to pass through a large tree that we did not want to cut down. We highly recommend Reliable Rails.

I called them based on Angie's List. They called within a day or so to set up a time. Mr. Giles came out on time. He was professional and knowledgable. Shortly thereafter i received a written estimate by email. I responded. They came out again to remeasure as this was a whole stairway and some changes were being made by other subs. They called and came out and put it in. No hassles, very pleased. Thank you-Reliable Rails.
Description of Work: Reliable Rails custom crafted a staircase of wrought iron to match existing iron work on the property. They copied patterns existing and worked with me to come up with a plan that would complement what we had. They additionally had to work with the unpredictable schedules of other subs that were doing outdoor repair work. They were the only ones that I could recommend without reservation. They were prompt. courteous, professional-most of all-they made sure I was happy wih the work before they left. They also replace a piece of fencing where I large tree had fallen. While I don't know if the price was reasonable for the stairway as we had a hard time finding anyone who had the skill to do this, we are very happy with the work and the cost for the fence reapir was just over $500, which I felt was very reasonable.

The owner was prompt about providing an estimate and scheduled the work within two weeks after we selected them for the job. The installers came on time and installed the railings in about two hours and left the job site clean and neat. I am happy with the way the railings look. I had obtained two estimates for this job and both came in around the same price.
Description of Work: They fabricated and installed new wrought hand rails on the stairway leading to my front porch and side railings on the porch itself. The porch had already been repaired and rebuilt by another contractor who had previously removed the old wrought iron railings.

They were able to come out while we were not at home, assess the repair cost and give us an estimate. All in all we're pleased with their service.
Description of Work: Provided a timely estimate. I'm in the process of getting additional estimates so I don't know yet whether their estimate is reasonable.
