Lawrence and Bina Giles, the owners of Reliable Rails were a true pleasure to work with -- from the initial call (Bina spent over 30 minutes on the phone with my wife going over details and photos), to the estimate (Lawrence arrived on time, was professional and stood in the rain showing samples of wrought iron) to payment of the final bill (we paid half as a deposit with the remainder due upon completion of work ... I thought it was a very professional gesture that Bina sent us an email to ask our permission to process the remaining amount, as opposed to just running the credit card). The quality of the work was splendid! We are beyond PLEASED with the rails, which are aesthetically pleasing and provide a measure of safety that was absent before (we recently bought the house and the previous owners didn't feel the need to install rails). WITHOUT HESITATION, I can say that we would most definitely recommend Reliable Rails and will use their services again in the future!

I had a patio retaining wall rebuilt and then needed a new railing for that wall. I wanted the new railing to match an existing railing on the other half of the patio. Reliable Rails did a great job matching the old railing, except for one minor thing that merely reflects the fact that the old railing was made by another company a number of years ago. Reliable Rails was very responsive and was quick to answer any questions I had. The railing looks great and I would not hestitate to use them again.
Description of Work: They fabricated and installed about 33 feet of wrought iron railing for a patio retaining wall. They also painted an existing railing on the same patio and painted the new railing.

Reliable Rails was a pleasure to deal with and did first-rate work promptly and at a fair price. Even better was that they did everything from the measurements and design to the installation correctly without having to take any time off from work. I would strongly recommend them to anyone wanting to get that kind of work done right the first time.

The job done by Reliable Rails was exactly as discussed and absolutely to my specifications. The wrought iron rails that were manufactured by Reliable Rails are beautiful, have an elegant look and transformed that side of my home where an old wooden fence previously resided. The look and appeal of the final product is fantastic. The only issue is that it looks so in keeping with the home and my rear patio that it looks as if it has been there all along. But, that is due to my listening to Lawrence Giles of Reliable Rails regarding proportion, height and the angle of ascent of the rails. All of these important details were explained in a manner that I could easily view in my own mind and with appropriate detail. There are other aspects of the service that Reliable Rails did that bear mentioning here. First, Lawrence Giles allowed me to actually visit his manufacturing shop in Manassas, VA to see HOW the wrought iron rails are actually made. This was important to me because I really wanted to see the workmanship that went into the rails. This was not only an edifying experience regarding my job in particular but it was illuminating in that this level of craftsmanship is not readily available today. Mass produced aluminum products and others are more prevalent but I wanted the strength, elegance and durability that wrought iron provides. And Reliable Rails delivered in a top notch manner. Lasly, Bina Giles of Reliable Rails was ALWAYS available by email even on the weekends. Call backs to my inquiries were swift and the high level of customer service was obviously important to all of Reliable Rails.
Description of Work: Reliable Rails did three separate jobs for me: 1) primed and painted all wrought iron rails on the exterior of my home. That is, front, back, down the front stairs, down the stairs to the basement in the rear and all hand railings. 2) primed and painted all wrought iron rails in the interior of my home. Those consisted of two sets in my living room area and all of the rails going up/down my stairs to the upper level of my home. 3) This was the primary job completed by Reliable Rails. After a discussion of our design requirements they measured the area between the 5 brick columns done by Mottern Masonry and manufactured 121 feet of custom designed wrought iron railing for the rear side of my home.

To my great fortune Reliable Rails was the company that had originally installed these guard rails so I felt that if they lasted some 15 odd years they would do a good job repairing them as well. Two technicians came early one morning and removed the rail form the post, re-cemented the posts and fitted the rail back in, They were done in a hour, cleaned up behing them and after a month or so the rail is in great shape. Thank you, Great work.

I would give them all "A"s, but for the fact that after they came out for the estimate, they were supposed to email me the estimate within a few days and I never got it. I finally called a few weeks later and left a strong voicemail message. I immediately received a return call with a hugh apology. Apparently they used an incomplete email address when sending out the estimate, which is why I never received it. After some negotiations, we agreed to have them do the project. The owners were very considerate and professional. The work was performed on time and from what I can tell, the quality is superior. I am very happy with the end result. I would recommend them and would use them again if the opportunity arose. It is a rare experience to find someone who will do business in good faith these days.

Being that these are my front stairs, I was anxious to get them fixed as to avoid any injuries to people coming/leaving the house. I called 4 contractors on Monday, and I sent them all a picture of the damaged step. Only Reliable Rails made any effort to return my call the same day. Being that I was in a hurry to get the stairs fixed, I went with Reliable Rails due to their quick turn-around. They provided me with a same-day quote based on the picture I sent them, and they arranged for their guys to come do the work the next morning. Their welders arrived early and did great work. I actually thought the quote was high when I received it, but I couldn't be choosy because I didn't have other estimates, and I needed the stairs to be fixed. After seeing the amount of work, the time the welders spent, and the finished product, I no longer feel that their estimate was excessively high. They did an amazing job. The stairs have never been so solid. They fixed the broken step, the cracked iron, and secured the other steps that were loose. The workers were exceptionally nice. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: I live in a Capitol Hill row house that has iron stairs to the front door. One of the steps broke, and the "backboard" below it cracked. Reliable Rails fixed the broken step, fixed the cracked piece of iron, and secured the rest of the steps.

I left an email message and someone in the office replied within a few hours. The next day I had a written estimate as an email attachment. They said they would try to get the work done before the following weekend. The work was completed 2 days later. They did exactly what they said they would do and did it on time (actually early). Overall a great experience.

I called Reliable Rails to get a quote for new rails for my front porch last week. I explained that I liked the rails I had, but they were old and one was very wobbly. They told me that there were a couple of options and explained them in detail. I didn't realize that they could reinforce the existing posts and in the end, this saved me several hundred dollars. They came out the next day when I was at work and left a quote with the different options. I gave them a 50% deposit and a few days later, I have two front rails that look and feel like new. They made this process extremely easy. I am also very appreciative when I don't have to take any time off from work to deal with a contractor. They sent me the invoice for the balance by email with a link to pay online. Wonderfully convenient! They were very responsive and knowledgeable, did a great job, and saved me a lot of money. I highly recommend them!

I found Reliable Rails on Angie's List and was impressed by their long business history and excellent reviews. I called and within an hour or so, Lawrence Giles (owner) was at my house for a consultation. He had been out doing estimates that day and fit me into the schedule. I was impressed by his knowledge, courtesy, and responsiveness. We discussed a few preliminary styles and by that evening Lawrence had sent me prices on both styles. RR could have started the rails immediately but I wanted to drive around a bit and look at rails on houses within a several mile radius of my housebefore making my final decision. Lawrence and Bina, his wife and office manager, were so friendly, patient, and willing to advise or help at any time. It took me about a week to decide on the rails which ended up being a hybrid of several things I liked. Once I made the decision, the rails were fabricated and installed within a week! RR is such a great company to work with! Lawrence and Bina are top notch at what they do and are so pleasant to interact with. The installers were likewise friendly and professional and didn't mind my hanging around and watching most of the installation procedure since I was curious and like to watch a process. Using RR was a great experience and I recommend this company without hesitation to anyone.

It went great; it was the easiest repair that I have done on my house in over 10 years. They came to my house to measure and spoke to me about my options for a railing. I received a quote on the same day that they came out. Once I looked at the quote and decided to go with them, I did the first installment over the phone. They spoke to me a few times to let me know the status of the job and when it was ready they installed the railing without me needing to be there. I came home and it was done, and my wife and daughter love it. I have done many repairs to my house and it was the easiest and the work is great. I would definitely use them again.

A company installing flagstone on our front steps needed to have our iron railings removed. We chose Reliable Rails since they were fairly local and rated well in Angie's List. I contacted Bina who was very responsive and flexible since we were working around the flagstone installation date which was shifting due to the weather. One nice feature of the work done by Reliable Rails was that it was not necessary to be home, which was great not having to take off time from work. They had only requested that the water to the garden hose was on which was a little tricky since the weather was freezing and they didn't seem to need it for removal. The job was done neatly and securely. The price ($475 for two handrails) seemed reasonable and the work was done in a reasonable time. The only challenge was that no particular day was scheduled. After making the appointment, one day the railings were gone and one random day after calling them to inform them the flagstone was set, they appeared. It would have been just a little better if I got a call or email that expalined the process and a note that they would be at my house on a certain day. Overall, we are pleased with the work and would recommend Reliable Rails for this type of work.

I was referred to Reliable Rails from Perfect Pavements who did the patio at the house. They strongly recommended Lawrence and his company Reliable Rails to install new railings for the patio. Lawrence was very prompt about showing up for the initial quote and even called as he was coming over. After installing the new patio, we had to remove the old railings which served as a barrier to a really steep hill so it was imperative that new railings be put quickly. Reliable Rails measured and incorporated a much needed gate where the old set did not have one. We requested powdered coated metal rails to minimize maintenance in the future. It took about 2 weeks to produce the railings and the installation team was fantastic. The quality of work was excellent.

My experience with Reliable Rails was excellent. To start, the company leadership and admin points of contact seemed to be available at all hours and 7 days a week. I could get in touch with the right people as details changed or to cover questions. We worked over email, text, phone and the experience felt very modern, versus "old school" paper checks, hand written estimates etc. After I engaged them, Lawrence came out and made a prelim measurement, then actually made a follow-up visit to confirm design. After prelim. fabrication, Lawrence had his team come out and dry fit the rails to assure design met specs. So the initial communication and design phases were great, and to top it off, execution was great. My brand new carport cement slab showed no wear and tear after they were done. This is extremely difficult - white cement with welding, metal work, drills and cement and black paint. The drilling into the cement pad was very discrete, the paining was consistent. I am a detail-oriented consumer and pay good money for quality work, and I was impressed with their work and told this company to use me as a reference. This is the type of company that should flourish in Northern VA.

Response from Reliable Rails Inc
Member, thank you for using Angie’s List in your efforts to contact us regarding your iron rail needs. I am not certain what happened in your case of you stating that you made contact with us and with us not responding back to you. In today’s economy we try to do everything HUMANLY POSSIBLY as to not let anything fall through the cracks. We are a husband and wife team who after business hours and on the weekends we forward our company’s' phone lines to our home number or to our cellphones as to NOT miss any business opportunities. In an effort to improve upon any of our shortcomings I would like to know the date that you contacted us and how did you contact us (by email or by telephone). In your case I cannot even begin to correct how we can improve upon your ratings of us because your review lacked much needed information. I have since gone through all of my telephone call sheets and I am not finding a call sheet from you. If you sent us an email I am not unable to track your request for services because in your review of us that information is omitted and only you can provide us with that pertinent information. Could it have been an email that did not reach us or a telephone call made to another iron rail company? I am confident that had you given our company a chance to respond that our ratings from you would have been much more favorable than an F; as we take great pride in the quality of our work, our communications with our customers (as you can see from our other ratings) and in the relationships that we establish with our customers along the way. If you think that we or Angie’s List failed you please accept our sincere apologies.

Reliable Rails does exactly as the name implies. They are very efficient and do very nice work. We needed rails for two sets of flagstone steps leading from our driveway up to the front door. The contractor who installed the flagstone recommended RR and I checked out their web site and the Angie’s List reviews. I contacted them on a weekday morning and spoke with Lawrence, who came out to my house that afternoon to make an estimate. The next day I got an email that pointed me to a web link with the estimate. I called and spoke with Bina to get additional details on the various options and she patiently answered my questions. We went with the powder-coat option which, although more expensive, looks terrific and is more durable than paint. They mailed samples so we could look at the various finish options (gloss, semigloss, and matte). It took a few days to fabricate the rails, after which I got a call to set-up a time to install them. They did both the estimate and install without my having go be at the house. It went smoothly and clean-up was excellent – there was no trace of them having been there except for the new rails, which look great. We are very pleased with RR and can highly recommend them.

First of all, the communication through the front office was excellent, which was part of what sold me on them in the first place. They gave a quote for the work described above, plus removing the existing bars. Their quote was comparable to other quotes, but their price for removal of the bars was much higher than the others (I think about $1000), so we did that ourselves--my super handy neighbor and I removed the old ones in under 2 hours. They came and took measurements, discussed designs, etc. They were more than happy to accommodate my desire to have bars that look a bit more artistic and less prisonlike for our house (Capitol Hill). They custom made the gates and bars with my design, and they looked great. They sent pictures once the bars were complete, which was helpful, because we had to do a few changes, which they did. The other great thing was they made these cylinders to cover the inside of the gates around the lock, so we can open it from the inside without a key, for fire escape safety, but you can't open them from the outside. They didn't seem to have done it before, but we showed them what our neighbors had, and they made ones that I think are better. After installation, there were a couple of small things I wasn't quite happy with, and they came out a couple of days later and took care of it, no sweat. Overall, the work was great, and they smoothed out the little hiccups that are inevitable with any large job. My standard for contractors is good communication from the front office, prompt, quality workmanship, and good response to problems. They did a great job on all fronts, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone getting metal work done.
Description of Work: We had new bars fabricated to order, custom designed by me, on three standard windows and one oversized window, as well as three standard sets of bars on 3 basement windows, plus 3 iron gates: front door, sliding patio door and basement door. They did custom design work on the gates as well. We had the entire lot powder-coated, which should last a lot longer than traditional paint without having to be retreated.

The company has great customer service. I had an appointment setup for two days following my call and Lawrence, the estimator/owner, showed up precisely on time for our appointment. Within 1 business day, Reliable Rails had sent me an estimate and called to follow-up on my receipt of it. It's clear from the reviews that this company does great work. For the customer service alone, I would have liked to go with them. Unfortunately, their prices for work were about 2-3 times as high as the quotes I received from other fabricators. Since I'm at a time in my life when my finances are a bit tight, I decided not to go with them. However, I would definitely suggest their service to others.

When I contacted Reliable Rails, they offered to come out in two days for a free cost estimate to repair a wrought iron stairway hand rail. I was told if the price was acceptable, the repair could be made in the same visit. Two days later, Tim called to give me a heads-up that he was on his way. He looked at the broken rail, quoted a price of $200 to fix, and then made the repair. The work was professional and the repaired rail looks great and, more importantly, is very sturdy. Our house is for sale and the quick repair was truly appreciated.
