Prospect Hardwood Flooring

Terrible. We hired an "A"-rated company because we wanted a quality installation of flooring in our basement. The estimate went easily, with Mike (owner) preparing our quote for flooring, shoe molding, and baseboard. On the day of installation, we were very pleased with the installation of the floor itself. However, we noticed significant quality issues with the installation of the shoe molding and baseboard. In several places (pictures available), the shoe molding was not attached to the wall, the corners were not flush - some with gaps up to 1/4" between the corners. When I pointed out these areas, including a particularly bad spot where the molding did not line up, the installer said, quote "Not my problem." The installer applied wood filler that did not match the molding and used caulk on the molding that was not attached to the wall. When I called Mike (owner) to complain and ask him to fix the issues, Mike told me to, quote "find somebody else to help you out". When I pressed him that he hadn't even come out to look at the work himself, his response was, quote "when I hear somebody elaborating like you are, there are challenges that we haven't created." Mike stated he would not charge us the second half of the job, and hung up. We didn't want the money. We didn't want something for free. We wanted the job done by an "A"-rated company, with all the quality that brings. That Mike wasn't even interested in coming out to verify the quality of the work - and instead deflected the complaint back onto us - was not at all what we expected. We're now in a position of having to hire another company to come out and remedy the quality issues.

High quality work and very competitive price. Mine was a smaller job, ~120 sq ft, but the owners stayed in touch with me before, during, and after to ensure everything was as I wanted. And when one small area wasn’t as I expected, they sent a team back the NEXT morning to remedy the situation. Outstanding customer support! I highly recommend Prospect Hardwood Flooring and would certainly use them again.

We had the entire first floor refinished as well as the stairs. The price was fair and the work performed was quick and professional. The company followed up with a phone call to make sure we were happy with the work. We pointed out some minor issues which were taken care of immediately. The company also sends out helpful tips on how to care for your floor and maintain your finish. We are very satisfied.

I was very pleased with Prospect Hardwood Flooring. The crew showed up on time and did an excellent job on my floors. The workers had to move furniture (some antiques) out of the rooms and put it back once the job was done. They were very careful, did not break or scratch anything. It was not an easy task and I was impressed with their positive attitude. I also appreciated Jodi's calls during the project to keep me informed on the next steps, when the crew would arrive and answer my questions. I am very happy with the result, the floors look great and I would hiring them again.

The two gentlemen that installed the flooring arrived on time and got right to work. They were efficient and tidy. The main installer said he had 11 years experience. He made it look easy. He even went out of his way to fix a squeaky riser. They cleaned up everything before they left. My stairs are beautiful. I will get them again if I need anything with hardwood done.

Prospect Hardwood Flooring did an outstanding job refinishing my 60 year old hardwood floors. There were a lot of pet damage spots and dried paint from years of it being covered with carpet. I was really worried it wouldn’t be a good candidate for refinishing. But Mike assured me it would look great when it was finished and boy was he right! It looks like I spent thousands of dollars having a new floor installed. Amazing!!! I had multiple quotes, but I was really impressed with Mike’s knowledge, professionalism and price. He was quick and handed me the quote immediately. Jodi kept me informed every step of the way and even when I had a small issue (my fault), they fixed it for me. I love their use of technology and the ease of their contract and payment system. The crew was very friendly, professional and respectful of my dogs and having to make sure they didn’t get out. I highly recommend them and will definitely use them again in the future.

Great. The floors turned out beautiful at a third of the cost of putting in new, plus it was good for the environment by saving trees. Mike came out right away and recommended we go with the refinish vs. new. Jodi was excellent at communicating with us, letting us know what was done and answering my many questions. We appreciated having sample stains put on our floors a week ahead so we could see them in different light. They completed the job on time and did a great job of containing the dust. They were also very careful putting our furniture back. It was pretty smelly the day we moved back. It took a day with the windows open to let out the fumes. It would have been helpful if they had more photos of the various stains on a whole floor. We were debating between early American and special walnut. They looked exactly the same on our samples. So we took a chance on Early American and it turned out even better than we had hoped. A nice light brown with no red or yellow. Lots of grain and a nice feel on bare feet. It hides dust, crumbs and golden retriever hair.

Excellent job. Jodi was very patient with me trying to decide on the color. When the work started, she contacted me in the morning and in the evening to provide an update of the progress, when the crew would arrive the next day, and the work to be done. The crew arrived when they were supposed to, worked hard, and cleaned up after themselves. My floors look awesome!

Excellent communication throughout the process - from the initial estimate and suggestion for materials, questions we had about the installation process and overall price. There were no surprises and the floors are beautiful. This company gave the lowest price of several estimates we received (which included carpet tear out/removal and some furniture moving). The company also allowed payment by credit card. We couldn't be more satisfied and are enjoying the floors more and more every day.

We had a failed hardwood refinishing project on our hands when we called Prospect flooring. Mike was quick with the estimate, the price was competitive. Jodi called us every day to explain what will happen next day and was great to resolve few little things we encountered. We were so happy with the work performed, that we hired Prospect Flooring again for the second project at our house. Second project included installing engineered food in our basement and replace carpeted stairs with hardwood. Again, work was done with great quality. Prospect flooring worked around our schedule and completed work in 2 days.

Ruined existing Brazilian cherry floor and did amateur work installing new subfloor and finish material. Need to hire a new contractor to refinish the floor and try to repair the damage they did. Letter to owner below. --------------------------- I am writing this letter to provide feedback on the workmanship of your crew. There are several issues that demonstrate lack of training and oversight. 1) Upon the start of the job, I was never introduced to a project manager or crew lead. I worked at home while the crew was in the house and unless I went out to speak with them, they never approached me to ask clarifying questions about the job. 2) I recognize that removing subfloor and underlay is a difficult and messy job. However, when I asked the crew about cleaning up the woodchips, nails and sawdust debris left between the joists on the ceiling panels below they looked at me like I was crazy. After they left that night I spent 7 hours removing the insulation and sweeping/vacuuming out the debris. It filled a 30-gallon trash bag. Leaving that much debris in the ceiling would have been irresponsible. 3) Upon installation of the underlay and subflooring, several issues emerged. a. The floor was not leveled and there is a ½” slope over an 8 ft run on one side of the room, most noticeable at the threshold of the exterior door. When cleaning out the debris I found shims on several beams. It appears those were discarded. An extra 15 minutes of work would have prevented this. b. When laying the subfloor, I asked what I assumed to be the crew chief if they were going to cross-ply the underlay and subfloor layers. He said yes. When I checked back, they did not. By then it was too late to change. c. On a walk-by I noticed one of the crew trying to pull a floor vent up with a lot of force. With the added ½” of subfloor, it needed to be raised. Rather than ask me, he just pulled it out of the ductwork. I stopped him, made the repair and then reset the height. If I hadn’t seen him doing that, the HVAC would be blowing into the joist area. d. On a different floor vent, one of the workers had entrapped the metal flanges under the subfloor. I noticed it one morning before they showed up and used a rotozip to clear the flange and showed the techs. If I had not done that, it would have been near impossible to fit the required ductwork after the top floor was installed. e. I had made a diagram of the exact location of the floor outlets near the fireplace along with a template for the holes. I showed that to them but when I came out later they had randomly cut holes in the underlay and first layer of subfloor, one of which was directly on a joist. I stopped them and told them I would refit the outlets later myself and to leave them below the floor. f. I did not notice until today, while doing layouts for the wood trim, that they randomly repositioned the floor vents along one wall. The two vents are on flex duct and are less than 8 feet apart. One is 8” off the wall and the other is 12” off the wall. No excuse for that. 4) I was surprised to see the crew using their contractor table saw in the house without a vacuum attachment rather than set up their equipment outside. The amount of dust was horrific. I noticed that the drew did not bother to cover the HVAC supply or return vents. I went ahead and did that to minimize debris in the vents and my HVAC system. That was inexcusable. 5) There was a lack of forethought in laying down the finish boards. a. Given random length boards (2-12’), the longer boards should go into the middle of the room with the shorter boards at the walls. Clearly not done that way b. There are a couple of sections where 4-5 2’ long boards are butted end to end. It looks silly. 6) The finishing is below standard. a. There are scallops in both the old flooring and the new flooring. Portions of the old floor are now wavy. Thresholds are wavy. When I had the original floor installed, the tech used a pad sander and they were impressively flat. Comparing the original flooring that was not refinished to the finishing work your crew did highlights the difference. b. The techs used a handheld pad sander in some areas, most notably along the baseboards and the thresholds resulting in a wavy finish. I addressed this with the crew before they left one night and they went back over the areas again. c. There is white screening residue left in between the herringbone pattern that is now sealed under the top coat(s). d. There are several small pools of excess finish, unfortunately in noticeable places. e. I should not have taken your advice on using an oil-based poly rather than the original water-based. It darkened the floor too much and there is a noticeable color change where the original finish meets the new finish. 7) I found at least 100 bent nails in my driveway. Directly where we park our cars. Glad I spotted that before we had tire damage. 8) The crew should not be working until 9pm at night. That is a long day, they get tired and they just want to go home. Quality suffers.

Mike showed up at my place and provided a quote right on the spot, in which I liked that type of professionalism no other contractors provided a written quote. Overall, Jodi and Mike demonstrated professionalism and follow-up with you regarding the work you need. I'll definitely recommend Prospect Hardwood Flooring.

If you need your hardwoods refinished, hire Prospect Flooring! I was pessimistic after a different company did a terrible job refinishing the floors and was on a tight schedule to have the project done right before moving into my new home. The owner, Mike, was available to meet with me immediately to discuss the project. He was prompt, fast, and reassuring. He provided a reference who had a similar project and the reference had a glowing review. Mike was able to start within days of the initial meeting and promised a quick completion. When the project began, Jodi (Mike's wife) called several times a day to keep me updated on the progress. The project manager worked with me over several days to get just the right stain color. Excellent customer service. Project was completed on time (6 days for almost 5000 sf!) and looks beautiful. I get so many compliments on the floor. We moved in on time and if I had any other floors to refinish, I would call Mike without a doubt.

Set an appointment for an estimate and company did not show. When I called and asked why, I was informed they did not remember my call and they had not scheduled anything for me. I offered them another opportunity to come out to my house for an estimate the next time that was convenient for my schedule and was told they would not be able to provide me an estimate. I would not recommend them.

Prospect recently finished a job on a townhome for us where they sanded and finished preexisting prefinished oak floors, and two stair cases. They did an outstanding job and were great to work with. We highly recommend.

Prospect Hardwood Flooring including Mike and Polly were very responsive and helpful at the beginning of our project. The installation team was very patient with us while we chose our floor color and helped with mixing stains to create exactly what we were looking for. The crew was punctual and very professional throughout out the process and we are overall very pleased with the new floors. Our disappointment began with the moving of the furniture and ended with the lack of concern and followup once the project was completed. Mike let us know that they would move the furniture out and back in for an additional fee. I do not believe the team was trained to move furniture correctly. We had two pieces damaged and we also ended up moving about a quarter of the furniture back in ourselves as the timing Jodi (who took over for Polly) offered did not work with our schedules and we did not want to wait another full week to get the furniture back in. When Mike came out about a few concerns we had with the final flooring we do not feel he listened and took the time to understand our concerns. He felt our concerns would be easily addressed and had the team come back out to do the touch ups but there was no communication between Mike, Jodi and the team as they did not understand what needed to be done when they got here or have the right product on the truck to do the work. It did get done later that day but not without a lot of frustration. We expressed our disappointment regarding the damaged furniture, the confusion about the touch ups and that we ended up having to move the last of the furniture back ourselves. The communications after that from Jodi were defensive and somewhat evasive and we never heard anything from Mike although he was copied on all communications. The lack of concern and follow up for our complaints, after the project was completed, from both Jodi and Mike is the only reason that we would not use PHF again.

Great. The communications from Jodi were detailed and timely. The wood arrived as described and the work was nicely done.

There was more water damage than anticipated, requiring replacement of plywood subflooring, so the job was more complicated than originally expected. However, the work was done well and the promise of a one-day installation was met. I am very impressed with their professionalism and efforts to accommodate my schedule.

After a leaking pipe we had to replace the flooring in our kitchen, and opted to also do the other ground floor rooms to match. Prospect Hardwood Flooring were fantastic to deal with from beginning to end. Mike arrived on time, gave us a competitive estimate, with an option for sub flooring that might be necessary given the mess of different layers of lino that turned out to be under our flooring. We had a few questions about replacing the baseboards etc, which he promptly answered by email. Polly in the office kept us updated on the scheduling etc. The sub floor turned out to be unnecessary as the crew went the extra mile on the demo work. The work took 3 days; the third day was a major winter storm, horrible driving conditions, schools etc closed, so my wife and I were at home - but the crew still arrived right on time and finished the job. The floors look great.

My experience with Prospect exceeded my expectations...100%. Started with the estimate...my intitial meeting with Mike Blot was efficient, and he was transparent about scope, timing and cost. All I had to do was choose the board ... and it helped that the distributor gave him a strong recommendation. The work crew was equally amazing. Fast, efficient, courteous, and professional. Highly recommend!!

Our job involved both installing hardwood flooring, and refinishing existing hardwood flooring. We had a great experience with Prospect Hardwood Flooring. They provided us with great customer service throughout the experience -- from the first contact, through the final inspection. Mike was prompt and engaging during the initial estimate process, and provided us with all the information we asked for. Then Jodi and Polly were both great at keeping us updated with daily check-in calls, informing us of status & progress, and providing instructions. We have lived in this area for nearly 10 years, and have had lots of contractors doing various work on our home over that time. I can tell you, without a doubt, that Mike, Jodi, and their team at Prospect Hardwood Flooring are the best we have seen!
