We purchased a package for $160, which included a check of the cooling system, and they will come back in the fall to check the heating. It is working perfectly and we were happy with the service. We knew that something was wrong because the air conditioner was not producing efficiently and they fixed the problem. The previous owner used them and I like that they call every year to see if you need anything. I like that they are proactive and they give you a discount for continuing with them. They were good but they could have been better. Their price was competitive.
Description of Work: We used Parrish Services to inspect our cooling system. They also did a repair because the coils were freezing up.

I called for to have my A/C units (2) checked and serviced. I was quoted an amount literally double what another company (John Nugent and sons) quoted me. The lady I spoke to on the phone was smug and acted in a hurry. Not very professional, and not at all friendly. I ended up calling the other company, who I had used in the past for electrical work, and was very satisfied. They charged me half what Parrish Services quoted me, checked the 2 units thoroughly and topped off the freon free of charge. SO glad I didn't go with Parrish Services.

Response from Parrish Services Inc
I'm sorry to hear we didn't offer a great experience to the Member. We know there are many companies with lower prices than Parrish, and we know most of them do not offer the level of quality service we provide; it's generally an apples-to-orange comparison. While it's not clear here if the Member actually ended up working with John Nugent and Sons, we're very familiar with the company. We know them to be very professional. So while it's sad to hear we lost a potential customer, we're glad to think the work went to one of the few companies we would trust to do a professional job.

First, let me say that we have a home warranty and only have to pay a $60 trade fee for any items that fall within our warranty. We filed 3 claims over the past 2 years due to our heat pump, furnace and AC going on the fritz. Parrish is the company our home warranty uses. I thought the company was very professional, the technicians were very knowledgeable. My only critique is that there is a bit of a wait to get service and repair (sometimes just a couple of days...the heat pump took almost 2 weeks and it was COLD!!!) However, this may be the norm as all of our issues are always in the height of the season. I do think folks that have semi-annual service plans with them do get priority service calls. But, I was very pleased to get a same day service call this past Christmas Eve when our furnace would not start. We had an infant in the house and out of town guests coming that night and we had no heat during a very cold week. But they came and fixed within hours of my call. We are considering using this company for our annual service plans.
Description of Work: Fixed heat pump compressor that went bad (Nov 08), fixed furnance that would not turn on...on Christmas Eve no less! (Dec 09), diagnosed AC problem and charged with freon (Jul 10).

Our hot water heater broke at 10:30 on a friday night. We had to turn the water main to the whole house off because the emergency shut off on the water heater did not work. I called our home warrently company Saturday morning and was instructed to contract Parrish for a service call. I had some trouble getting through to them on Saturday morning, shortly after 9:00 am (they opened at 9). At first they schedualed the service call for Monday evening; When i cleared an emergency service call weith the warrenty company, even they had trouble getting throught o Parrish. Eventually, the two companies did talk and arrainged a service call Sunday evening. The technician was slightly late, but called to let us know; friendly and professional. The service call to do the work was approved and scheduled on Monday. The technician arrived on time, again friendly and professional, and had the water heater completley replaced along with a leak pan in about 1.5 hours.

It has not gone well. Parrish was uninterested in my failed water heater, a discontinued model. Until this year, I didn't do my homework and seek bids from other providers - so I've flushed thousands of dollars to Parrish needlessly. I've learned my lesson - take advantage of the competition and obtain three or more bids for any work needed. Update Jan 2013. The compressor of the $10K heat pump installed in 2005 failed a few months ago. It was recommended that I replace the entire heat pump with a more efficient unit at $5K, half the cost of Parrish's failed unit. That $10K unit was hastily and poorly installed by the Parrish tech, who has since retired.
Description of Work: First used Parrish in 2003. They replaced a failing compressor in my upstairs HVAC. I then engaged Parrish to service my two HVAC units at $32 monthly. At each visit in spring and fall, I was told that my units needed to be replaced. I replaced the largest one with the unit Parrish recommended but it did not perform reliably. After many technical visits the problem was fixed. I engaged Parrish to replace an aging water heater, following their advice. They did so by installing a fancy, expensive unit ($1400) that failed within two years. I had noticed a likely problem with my water softener and asked for technical help from Parrish. They sent a 'trained' technician who didn't recognize the reverse osmosis unit and tried to sell me a new unit instead. I fixed the problem myself after reading about my unit on the web - a simple cleaning job. Finally, my upstairs HVAC was in declining health (as always) and Parrish recommended an expensive unit to replace it. I was now aware that Parrish prefers to sell units without providing choices or technical information. So I obtained bids from other HVAC providers and learned that the Parrish offering was the most expensive and least capable.

Parrish Services was contacted by our home warranty company to determine why our electric water heater wasn't working. They took two days to contact me after the warranty company placed the service order. When the scheduler finally contacted me, she could only provide a 2-hour window for the appointment time, but she assured me that the technician would call 30 minutes prior to arrival to ensure that someone would be at the house. On the morning of the appointment, I received a call from the technician, who informed me that he was at the house. He said that he had forgotten to call when he was on his way. It took me 30 minutes to get there. He quickly diagnosed the problem with the water heater (two blown elements), and tersely informed me that the repair would not be covered by the home warranty because it was due to improper operation (turning on power to the w/h when the tank was not full). He then tried to convince me to allow Parrish Services to replace the w/h at a cost of $800. I informed him that I was not interested in replacing the w/h at that time, and that I also did not want him to complete the repair (at a cost of $367) because of the possibility that another contractor was responsible for the damage. For the remainder of my interaction with him, he displayed a rude, unprofessional attitude. To top it off, after he wrote up the ticket for the service call, he attempted to collect $60 for the service call. When I informed him that the home warranty deductible was $55 (a fact I had made known to the scheduler at the time the appointment was made), he once again responded rudely to the effect of "Fine, I'm not going to argue with you about $5, the office can handle it." Overall, a rather unpleasant experience.

A home inspector said the the ducts in the attic were deteriorated and that they were loosing heat/air into the attic. Parrish evaulated and said that the plastic was deteriorated but that it was no big deal. The loan company of the buyer said that the plastic is part of the insulation package (keeps the moisture from getting into the attic) and insisted they be repaired/replaced. I did research and the Parrish technician had no clue and was totally wrong. I called and called Parrish to get someone out to give us an estimate with no response. I even left messages for the owner with no call back. I finally put in an emergency call to get it fixed but it was too late to get an estimate and call around for others to do the work. The price was way too high and the service from Parrish was the worst. I would only recommend these guys to people I dislike and even then it would be cruel.

They came out as part of our installation contract, where the first year service was inclusive to the installation. They were excellent. All of their technicians were always very good. They were prompt and courteous. Any difficulties that we ran into along the way were always handled in a professional manner. We did a cost analysis and determined that it was time for us to have a geothermal system. We were using propane, and that was one of the things that made installing a geothermal system cost-beneficial. We were paying $400 a month on propane alone. The system has many less moving parts, and so they are rather maintenance free, because everything is done with water pumps instead of air. There is a heat exchanger but there is not much with compressors, and there are no chemicals used. We get our hot water off of it as well as our heat for the house. It cools in the summer too. If we go ahead and do it, we get 30% of it as a tax credit right now. That law wasn’t enacted until after we had made the decision but that made it even better. It will pay for itself in 5 years, especially with the price of gas the way it is now. They can do it one of two ways: run the pipes horizontally through the ground if you have a large yard or drill a well. We didn’t get a whole lot of competitive bids but they handled the job with everything that had to be done; others wanted to piecemeal it, and you had to act as general contractor to coordinate the work. I wanted someone that came and did it start to finish. They provided us with everything we needed to file for the tax credit. The project took 3 weeks time. I would rate them highly and would continue to use them in the future for service.

They were very timely, professional, and courteous in my home on both visits. They apologized for how expensive the replacement remote control systems were to replace. The entire job probably took one and a half hours combining both appointments. So, pretty expensive for a small job, but the parts prices were quoted to me over the phone and I approved them because I don't feel that I had much choice. These were originally installed with remotes, about ten years ago, and I don't know another way to make them operate.
Description of Work: First, they came to fix automatic controls for gas fireplace log sets (2). They determined that both were inoperable for different reasons and needed to be replaced. They ordered replacement sets for both and came back to install them.

The technician was prompt/professional. In addition to the fan capacitor replacement, he recommended pulling/cleaning the blower motor for $288. I researched that cost and found the work could be done for $115; and decided to use another company now and in the future. Note: my previous experience was with USE which was taken over by Parrish Services. My decision was made, in part, by my experience in July when Parrish replaced the AC unit. It, too, was under an extended warranty that was not honored. I later learned the extended warranty company had filed for bankruptcy.

When the repairman arrived he wanted the 100$ right away, I told him that that was for a service call and no service has been completed yet. He then tried to sell me on a service contract which I had no idea of and needed more information of. So he went out and told me, "My boss doesn't allow me to recharge a A/C with out cleaning the coil." So how much I asked he stated"Sir, its a speical acid bath that cleans the coil, and requires a special technique." How much I asked again. "480$" I looked up coil cleaner on the internet and found it between $15-40 a gallon. So I told him to get out of my house. He wanted the $100 and I told him that was for a service call, no service was done and the service I wanted was not trying to be scammed. There was another tech fixing my neighbors A/C 100 explaining that his boss doesn't know that he is here and he could keep the 100 for him self and he recharged it and its been working well ever since.
Description of Work: After I bought my house I noticed that my A/C wasn't kicking out enough air so I used a home warranty that came with my house. Parrish services was a subcontractor of a home warranty program that we got with the house. The warranty company told me to have 100$ cash which made me wonder already.

Response from Parrish Services Inc
At Parrish Services, we hold ourselves to the highest professional standards, and we act in good faith. According to the member, he had a problem with his air conditioning and chose to invoke his home warranty service agreement. The home warranty company requested our company provide service, and they advised us of the up-front deductible owed by him. It appears from the statements made here by him that he: a) refused to pay the up-front deductible required by his home warranty contract; b) was unwilling to pay for technical expertise and diagnosis offered by the trained, licensed, bonded, professional HVAC technician who came to his home in good faith; and c) bypassed paying even the neighbor’s HVAC contractor (who has invested in the training, insurance, licensing, tools, bonding, background checks, etc., for his own techs) by paying a technician “under the table.” We are disappointed we were not able to support our home warranty customer satisfactorily, but we believe our staff acted with professionalism and good faith.

Other than the obscene cost, everything went fine.
Description of Work: The AC had stopped working. The technician rapidly determined the problem. A bad starter capacitor and dirty coils on the outside unit. Here's where the problem started. Cost of capacitor ($170 for a $15 part), some black dohicky he stuck in the circuit ($340), cleaning the coil (which consisted of him praying my garden hose through the casing surrounding the coils, he didn't remove the casing or brush the coils to actually clean them decently - $190), and adding a pound of refrigerant ($190). Then the sale pitch for a sort-of service contract, $200 for a year, but that just gave a 15% reduction on parts cost (parts which were apparently marked up 1000% to begin with) and semi-annual inspections, which wouldn't actually mitigate any charges for actually doing anything, like cleaning coils, etc. So I got tapped for a $1000 for a 1 hour service call.

While working on a recently purchased house the upstairs lights quit working, but didn't trip a breaker. Their licensed electrian came out and diagnosed the problem in about 10 minutes! It was a loose contection in a switch. It had been sparking intermitantly for a while, the ends of the wires were charred! He had it fixed in a jiffy. He also doubled checked all the other outlets and switches. He found one outlet downstairs that was completely fried! He fixed that too, even though it wasn't on his work order. He said he just couldn't leave without fixing it. This was covered under my home warranty. It was the home warrenty company that sent Parrish Services out, I had no say in the matter and wasn't sure what to expect. I was very impressed and will definitly consider using them again.

The furnace wasn't producing heat even though the fan was moving air. I contacted the company to schedule a house call and was told that they could come the very next day. The Tech called to tell me she was on her way and she arrived well within the two hour window. She was courteous and professional and even wore booties on her shoes. She performed the necessary test then corrected the problem which thankfully was minor. She did recommend a service plan. We've only lived in our home for three months and since I don't know who or how well anything was maintained before we purchased the home I decided it was well worth the additonal $384.00 to cover any surprised we might encounter from both HVAC units for a year.

We woke up to no heat last Friday; called Parrish, as they'd been the people that our Home Warranty (when we'd had it) had used, and we had been pleased with their work. The lady with whom I spoke, Laura, was very nice, and scheduled an appointment for that day, which was wonderful. Gave me a window of 2 - 6 p.m. I got home at 1:30, and at 3:00ish got a confirmation phone call. Several others followed, the last few saying that the tech would be late, but that he was still coming, "we work until we're finished". Tech showed up at 8:30 p.m., which didn't make me happy, but the status phone calls did, so I called it a wash. Then the tech was able to fix our faulty igniter by replacing it with one from his truck! Heaven, and heat! We were very pleased. At least, I was very happy until I woke up this morning, exactly a week after the repair, to no heat again. Laura is sending the same tech out tomorrow, theoretically between 2 - 6. We shall see.
