The technician was far later than anticipated, and took far longer with the job than anticipated, but was very methodical. He double-checked his work to make sure all the new parts were performing as expected. We've had no problems with the furnace since the visit.

I returned home from a trip only to discover that my forced-air furnace had stopped working. Thankfully it must have stopped that day, as the house had not cooled off. I found Parrish's phone number on a sticker on the furnace and they answered right away. Within a few minutes I had an appointment scheduled for the same day. The technician arrived on time and was very polite. He diagnosed the problem within 1/2 hour, however given the overall condition of the furnace, recommended that I consider replacing it. He wrote up a quote for the replacement furnace, and was able to get the old one running well enough to keep the house warm for the next days until I had a new unit installed. As I am not usually one to rush into a large purchase, I went on to the Internet to research pricing, and came away with the conclusion that brand-name furnaces are amongst the most difficult of things to price online. I narrowed down my choice to a particular Trane model, and went to Trane's website to find a few vendors to receive estimates from. The price that the technician gave me for the furnace replacement was several hundred dollars higher than what I found elsewhere, so I'm going with another company. Unfortunately Parrish had no promotions or discounts to offer to get close to the other offers, otherwise I probably would have chosen them. The technician was very neat, professional and informative about the furnace, and I believe didn't try to over-sell me on things I didn't need. On the down side, he did make a small error that might have resulted in a second trip had I not been somewhat mechanically inclined. When he re-assembled the existing furnace, he neglected to readjust a switch that determines when the fan runs, and as a result it ran all day. The price for the service call seemed quite fair at a little over $100, and I have a warm house so I can't complain.

I purchased new air conditioning units from Parrish last spring. As part of the purchase they included a one-year maintenance contract, where they come in the spring and fall to inspect the heating and a/c. I didn't hear from them again regarding that agreement or scheduling a fall inspection. Finally I called them myself and arranged for a technician to come inspect the heating units. The technician arrived and inspected both units (basement and attic, the house has two zones). He first said that a capacitor was bad in each furnace, and recommended replacement at $101 each, which I agreed to. Then he told me the attic unit had a water leak and that there were water stains under the unit. I told him this had happened earlier, and that I had fixed a leaking condensation hose a couple of months ago and the water stains were old. He went back up and looked again, then came back and said there was a current leak and when he put his hand underneath, fresh water dripped on his hand. He said the drain box, a small white box at the end of the condensation line, was leaking and needed to be replaced. He also asked for a pan that he could put under the unit, to catch the water until he could order the part. I gave him a pan and he went back up and put it under the drain box. He said he would have the drain box ordered and they would call when they had it to arrange to come back and replace it. The office called about a week later and set up an appointment to come replace the drain box. The morning they were supposed to come, I went up in the attic to look for myself. The floor was bone dry. The pan that was supposed to be catching the "leak" was bone dry. There were no signs of a leak or fresh water anywhere, just the old water stains as I had said. I called their office and cancelled the service call. The furnace continues to work fine and there is no leak - I just checked again today, nearly three weeks after he was here. The attic is not that easy to get to, you have to use a ladder and then pull yourself up, and once up there it is not that easy to get around. I can only imagine he assumed I would not check myself and so would never know that there really was no leak, so he could sell me an expensive part I didn't need. I now suspect I probably didn't need the capacitors either. The technician also recommeded duct cleaning at $599 per unit. We may actually need this because we have had some construction done recently and there has been a lot of dust, but that price seems pretty high. I originally scheduled that as well, but also cancelled that service after discovering this other problem. Final note, not a big deal, but after the technician had been here for about 90 minutes, their office called me to say that he had been delayed but that I was next on their list and he would be there shortly! So they apparently didn't even know where the guy was. Although they still owe me a spring inspection of the a/c system, I'm going to just hire somebody else. Going to hire someone else for the duct cleaning, too.

They found the problem, which was a simple $20 fix. But they then found equipment that needed a $500 cleaning (more a less they take the equipment out and rinse it). They threatened that if we did not do the work they would inform our insurance company that would void our warranty. We were pressured into the work but wish that we didn't afterwards.

After calling 10 contractors from Angies List to service my gas fireplace, Parrish was the first one to be able to come out within two weeks of my phone call. The next closest time frame from another provider was 4 weeks from my phone call. My first Apt with Parrish had to be rescheduled due to the snow fall in VA and they were running emergency calls. My 2nd Apt with them had to be rescheduled due to me being stuck in NYC during the holiday blizzard. I finally had Parrish arrive for service the first week in January. The technician called before coming. He was polite and informative. He examined both items and came back with both the differnt pricing plans as well as the information about my two items. He gave me advice on how to monitor my 30 year old furnace for possible failure as well as recommended additional CO monitors in the house. He explained additional car I could be taking with my gas fireplace. All in all this was a very pleasant experience.
Description of Work: I had annual maintenance done on my gas fireplace as well as my furnance. I also purchased the yearly maintenance plan for my AC.

I had 11 different appointments and 7 different technicians with Parrish to diagnose the problem. They even had me purchase a $200 thermal expansion tank for my hot water heater, which did not solve anything. Finally, my home warranty company sent out a technician from a different company who correctly diagnosed the problem in under 30 minutes. (A clogged pipe feeding into my water heater!) My impression: There are more knowledgeable technicians out there that are much cheaper. Parrish also seemed to be very sales oriented. Their techs always made it seem like I needed to buy something else for my system (expansion tanks, mixing valves, UV lights, etc.). I almost got a service contract with these guys (which they push pretty hard). I'm very thankful that I didn't.
Description of Work: Heat did not work properly and hot water tank became so hot that it would release hot water to relieve built up pressure. My Home warranty company sent Parrish to fix the problem.

Overall, I got the work done I requested for a good price, but the general customer service was a disappointment.
Description of Work: I had a semi-annual heat pump system check performed. The technician arrived over an hour beyond the scheduled window. He was courteous and sincere. He checked my system, made some recommendations regarding resolving mold and heat pump performance quality issues. I agreed to receive quotes from the company, but I never received them. As this was the second time for untimely service that was a major adjustment to my schedule, I chose not to renew my contract. Again, very respectful staff all around, but I had no luck with punctuality or follow up information.

They gave us a quote on a new water heater through our appliance insurance. We felt the price was too high. After we paid everything through insurance it would have been about the same if we bought it on our own without using our appliance insurance. It was unclear to me if we actually needed a new water heater. They said there was once piece that was not working well that they could replace. They said in their experience replacing it did not work well and you have to end up replacing the whole system. We have not replaced it yet and it is still working. So we felt like maybe their information was not quite accurate. We do think we need one but maybe not the way they explained. I would not recommend calling them. I think Angie's List members should check out other companies prices first.

I don't remember how much the quote was for. That was our first experience with them. They were professional. We had other quotes as well and we just decided not to go with them. Somebody else beat them on a better bid. We may consider getting a quote from them again in the future. We went with another company because we liked their work and their bid very much and we are planning to stay with them right now. I would recommend Parrish Services to others.

We were introduced to Parrish because they are associated with our home warranty company. Our air conditioner was problematic most of the summer, working a week at a time. It was determined that our best course of action would be to replace the whole system, mostly to take advantage of current tax incentives. The installation went smoothly, and the unit performed well for the rest of the summer. We were told when they installed the system that we were responsible for contacting the county to get the furnace inspected. Unfortunately, there didn't seem to have been a permit issued for the work performed on record for the county. After many calls to Parrish, trying to get information on our permit number, I was finally informed that the proper procedure was that Parrish would schedule the inspection on our behalf. A look at the online county records indicate that no permit was ever pulled for our install, and only when I asked about it, did Parrish file for the permit 3 months after the work had been performed. Every county staffer that I've spoken to has said that a permit is required *before* the work is done. In Fairfax County, where I live, a permit is required for all new and replacement of existing gas appliances, including furnaces. (According to their website, "you need a permit if it goes boom!") Before using Parrish for a major installation like this, I'd suggest asking them if they have the permit, and confirm with your county when it should be obtained.

We contacted Parrish after our regular service provider told us that they were only willing to replace our geothermal unit if they also redid our drilling and piping (which would have cost more than four times as much as Parrish's estimate). The people at Parrish assured us that they could replace the faulty unit without this costly and complicated step. They were familiar with our system and very knowledgeable about geothermal HVACs. They answered the many detailed questions we had, and their service manager was very cost-conscious and eager to provide value for the dollar. Once we agreed to have Parrish do the work, they moved quickly to secure the equipment and set up a service day. The only hiccup was communicating with the service manager once we'd agreed to have Parrish do the work--there were a few phone calls and questions that went unanswered. But the new system was installed on schedule and in one day as promised. So far it's working great. I would strongly recommend Parrish for any geothermal-related installations or repairs, particularly if you have an older system.
Description of Work: We had a geothermal HVAC system that had been installed 20 yrs ago by the original homeowner and the main unit broke down. After seeking estimates from several companies, we hired Parrish to replace the unit, a delicate task that involved working with the somewhat unconventional drilling and pipeline that the original homeowner had installed.

One of the circuit breakers failed in our 34 year old breaker box and we had to resort to extension cords running from outlets that did work to applicances we needed. Upon calling Parrish services and explaining our dilmemna, they did theri best to fit us into their electricians busy schedule. Other services we had called could not get to us for two weeks. Parrish's electrician was here the next day. Upon arrival, the serviceman quickly diagnosed that we did not need to replace the entire breaker box, as we had feared but that with replacing our defective breaker and upgrading our bathroom outlet to GFI we would be up and running and within code. The electrician that arrived was very polite, friendly, courteous and answered all of my questions concerning this repair and discussed future possible upgrades and additions to our electrical system. I would definitely use Parrish and this electtician in the future.

I called my home warranty company and they told me that someone from Parrish would call me within the next few days to schedule an appointment but that I could call Parrish if I didn't want to wait. When I hung up with the warranty company I logged on to Angie's List to look at reviews for Parish before I called. Within minutes, Parrish called me. I was very impressed. I called late on Friday and they said they would be out Sunday morning. Again - thrilled! The technician called when he was 30 minutes away, well within the time frame they gave me. The technician, Chris M., was pleasant, professional and full of helpful information. He fixed the cause of the problem ( a loose wire) and made some maintenance suggestions. I have owned my condo for less than a year and it was a foreclosure. The system is old so I told him that I was considering replacing the unit this year because of the tax credit and he provided me with very useful information. No pressure. He told me that someone would call to give me a quote. I am now sitting in my cool home with time to decide what I want to do - maintenance costs vs. new system. He also gave me a nice "goodie" bag. Overall - very impressed which given I am sick and cranky - says a lot. I only paid the copay on my home warranty - no surprises.

Overall I'm very pleased with services provide by Parrish. If you have the need for major work to be done or frequently have HVAC, electrical, or plumbing problems I would suggest them and their priority service agreements. The service agreement gives you I want to say 10% discount, prompt service, free annual inspection and you don't have to pay extra for weekend visits. I've used Parrish for a lot of work at different houses and continue to use they as they are professional, honest, responsive and provide quality work.
Description of Work: This was the replacement of the entire AC/HVAC system for a single family house I rent out. This was for a R410A/ 3 ton unit with a 10 year extend warranty to include parts and labor. While taking my time to shop around the old system failed (no surprises its from 1994 and AC systems are replaced typically ever 15 years and heat about 20 years). I called up Parrish and within two days the new system was fully installed. From what I recall the other quotes I received were typically a littler higher. The only problem I ran into was some confusion surrounding the original price quoted by Parrish. I believe the first quote was for 6,500 but I was unable to find a fully completed quote with the specs to back it up. We discussed it and agreed on 7k for the final price and not the first amount I was billed, $7,500. I doubt this normally occurs its just because the quote was about a month old from the time the system was installed. Also considering how fast they were able get the system install it was worth it.

The reason why I use them is because they are one of the few people who provide service for oil furnace and air conditioning. I have an annual service contract with them. I would recommend them. The only drawback that I have with them is that they are dealers for Linux, I would prefer Carrier. I went with them because they had good price a year ago when I had to replace an air conditioning unit. I have been happy with the technical quality of the service.

Thanks to this member for posting his review. We appreciate the continued business! One note: While we do specialize in a few HVAC brands such as Trane, Lennox, and WaterFurnace (for geothermal), we are a large, experienced contractor with expertise across all brands. Some companies are not authorized to carry particular brands because they have not met the technical, customer satisfaction, and credit-worthiness requirements of the equipment distributors. At Parrish, we are an award-winning, well-established, fiscally responsible company. Hence our tagline, "Always there for you!" As such, we do have the ability to sell and install any brand that a customer may prefer.

This has been one of the worst experiences I have had with a service company. The really sad part is that I made the mistake of signing a service contract with Parrish. Have to wonder how bad the service would be if I did not have a service contract.
Description of Work: Service company dictated by Home Warranty Co. Parrish here 7/26/10. AC not working properly. Tech said unit was frozen and it would take 24 hours to thaw (outside temp was approx 94 degrees). Came back next day said hole in coil; would order part. No word from Parrish. I had to call them back, set up appt for Monday, 8/2. Techs came - had wrong part. No word from Parrish; I called 8/6/10. They did not say so but appears that correct part had never been ordered. Received call today (8/7/10) - they could install part Thursday 8/12/10. I have job, have to be at work that day. No other option from Parrish until Sunday 8/15/10. At that point I was so ticked that I ended call before I said something I shouldn't. Will say Techs were great about re-charging unit when they were here. Unit has been barely limping along.

Two technicians arrived on time. They were polite and neat in appearance. The lead technician discussed the history of the problem with me so as to be able to analyze the situation correctly and discuss the anticipated cost of the repair. The technicians worked together to promptly find the actual problems and correct them. They then installed the surge protector and cleaned up after themselves. The work was completed within the agreed upon price and everything has been working perfectly since then. While a little more expensive than other electricians I have used, I believe that the quality difference was worth the extra cost. Who wants to take a risk on bad electrical work in their home, right?

Thanks to the Member for taking the time to post such a thorough review, and we do appreciate the positive comments. At Parrish, we're certainly big believers in paying for quality, too. We know we're not the cheapest guys in town because we focus on quality products and service. However, we buy brands we trust, and we hire quality technicians. We spend the money to provide well-stocked, safe vehicles. We offer all of our employees an ongoing training benefit and encourage as many certifications as possible. We continuously drug test, and we bonus our employees for observing our safety policies. We pull a permit every time it's required (sad to say, this is not always the case for some contractors), and we keep our licensing, insurance, and credit in proper order. All of these things cost more money, but they allow us to serve our customers well and ensure we'll be here in the future to honor our commitments. Thanks for choosing Parrish!

They had to come out a couple of times so it's hard to say if it's an issue with the system or they didn't fix it right. I am pretty satisfied with the service, they are pretty good about responding to your calls and coming pretty quickly to service the unit. I'd say overall I am pretty satisfied with them.
