Very happy with the workmanship not very happy with the price, the communication or responsiveness to communications, NOT HAPPY with the Company, Very Unprofessional. When things went wrong, everyone blamed some else. MANY THINGS WENT WRONG Wrong Cabinets Ordered Measurement Were Wrong Counter Tops were Cut Wrong Plumbing Had to be Redone Project Took 5 Months (Contract -Final Payment) 3 Months without a finish kitchen Project Manager Always had to get approval from his Office After so many issues and having us unhappy they just stopped communicating. I sent them a check after haggling about credits. I never heard back from them again after I mailed the check. There was no Final Walk Through, and we never received our Warranty information we were promised, I assumed the PM would come back and finish that. After almost 14 months since signing the contract (September 1 2013) and looking at one of the Light Switches that is different than the rest of the Kitchen. I decided to complete my review. I expected a Full Kitchen Remodel to be stressful, so we hired a company with lots of experience to minimize that stress, it was not the case.
Description of Work: Full Kitchen Remodel, design, demolition, new cabinets, and countertop plus lighting.

Mr. Ohi was prompt showing up for our appointment. On the first day he spent several hour taking measurements, He then made a second appointment with us to do a more thorough job. The second work-up was followed by a complete recommendation for the house as well as the name of a contracting firm to do the work, Pendrey Builders Inc. Pendrey Builders Inc. and Dennis Antrey were a joy to work with. Our home of 40 years had sunk in several places and our basement had bulging walls. Mr. Autrey installed "carbon strips" to strengthen the walls in the basement. With the of his workers, we were able to move all of the things away from the walls so this work could be completed. Then the carport floor was removed, the carport and attached screened porch were raise, new support for the screened porch was installed and a new concrete floor for the carport floor was poured. It was hard heavy work which I appreciated very much. Through all of this, Mr. Ohi was there checking measurements and making sure all of the work was going to his specifications. Now any work done on the house can proceed from a sound base.
Description of Work: Mr. Ohi came and spent several hours evaluating our house and carport for structural stability because we are anticipating doing some renovating and up-dating.

Mr. Ohi reviewed the work and recommended an alternative plan of action - 4 helical piers instead of 16 piers. Work was done by the company he recommended and saved me $16,000. He recommendations confirmed my suspicion that the initial estimate was inflated and overworked. I am happy with the result and the overall cost. I would use him again without hesitation.
Description of Work: I asked Mr. Ohi to conduct an engineering survey of my sinking back porch after have another firm gave me an estimate of over $37,000 to lift the porch an install 16 helical piers to lift/hold the 12x20 ft concrete form in place.

Ohi is a structural engineer who I called to see if I could remove a bearing wall in order to enlarge my kitchen. He was amazing. A previous engineer had asked $4000 to do the job. Ohi came himself to see the and measure the area. He then sent an assistant to measure the entire house: attic, upstairs, everything. He put the measurements into a program and then drew an exact design (many pages) my contractor would have to follow in order to make the structure safe. When I told him later that a builder had told me I could not remove the wall safely, he came back himself, rechecked his measurements, and assured me that I could do this. I now have a wonderful, large kitchen, and a 3" solid steel pipe sunk two feet into the foundation that holds up a 12" square wood beam that sits on 8" of solid brick. The present structure is even more solid than the original. I would hire him again in a heartbeat. Worth every penny.
Description of Work: Ohi is a structural engineer who advised me on the possibility of removing a bearing wall.

We met them at the Capitol Home Show at the Dulles Expo center. We spoke with several potential contractors, but only had OHI come to the house. The salesman was very accommodating as far as scheduling of visits, and he came several times to discuss our usage and goals for the room. He brought samples of cabinetry and counter materials, and we covered everything from layout to paint color. He made a 3D representation which permitted a walk-in view, and that helped get a feel for the final design. We went to Conestoga Tile (near Old Ox Road, north of Dulles airport) to pick out our floor and wall tile, and we selected our granite counter material from a shop on Willard Road in Chantilly. That was the easy part. The overall job was estimated to be about four weeks in duration, and a construction dumpster was placed in our driveway. The demolition was quick and efficient, but the rebuild work went on for much longer that we had expected or hoped. On some days, construction was postponed because one of the key workers was needed at another OHI job site. (My house actually had someone else's permits taped to a window, I later found.) On other days, it was evident that no work was performed at all without any explanation. The shower glass subcontractor cut the metal header parts in my garage and showered the garage with metal filings. They went everywhere and into everything. The was no suitable explanation for this and only a halfhearted effort to clean up the mess. And the plumber didn't properly seal the shower drain fitting, allowing water to flood the garage ceiling below. The wet sheetrock broke free of the joists and fell on my wife's car, and there was water and plaster everywhere. We took advantage of the dumpster to get rid of some accumulated junk, but that did not offset the inconvenience of having that thing in the driveway. Overall, the work took about nine weeks. The finished product is terrific, especially the tile work, attributable to the up-front planning and some excellent craftsmanship. (The garage ceiling was nicely repaired, even beyond the water damage to fix sheetrock that was sagging due to heat and age. But there will be metal filings in the garage until after I move away.) We ended up paying twice what we had set as a working budget, but it was unrealistic as we had no experience with a project of this kind. Most unfortunate is that we have yet to receive any contact from OHI again, either as a courtesy follow-up or to request a referral. I answered No to the question about using OHI in the future because there wasn't a Maybe option; perhaps there should be.
Description of Work: We had them remodel a master bath, including replacing a shower, vanity, counter, and floor and wall tile.

The design process went very smoothly. They listened to what we wanted, designed the space in a way that both made sense and had is aesthetically pleasing and made great use of the space. The team made good suggestions and we felt good about taking some and not taking others. We got an estimate on the 2 projects and signed the contract. They started the project pretty close to the date to which we had all agreed and completed the project on time as well. The works that worked on the house every day were courteous, friendly, and fairly efficient. They cleaned up pretty well most days and did a good job letting us know when to expect their presence and when they weren't going to be there. My chief complaint is in the final stage - painting. They brought in their painters who were clearly not that careful with the work. The walls were not sanded first, so the first paint job was messy and not up to our standards. They were good about taking the feedback and repainted, but the result still wasn't that great. It's a shame to do a good job on the installation and then have a miss on the finishing touches. We're still not super thrilled with the paint job, but the overall quality of the rest of the work was very good.
Description of Work: OHI came in to remodel our master bathroom and our main level powder room. The master bath project entailed gutting the entire bathroom and replacing all of the fixtures and tile. They worked with us on the design of the bathroom, trying hard to keep cost down by not moving any plumbing and retaining the bathtub which we re-used in the newly designed space. They completed the installation and then painted the rooms.

While Kamran was only here about an hour, we did examine the crawl space and attic and discussed the options of how to best create an open floor plan while providing rough guesstimates on cost for each option. He determined that we should be able to eliminate a load bearing wall by creating a semi-cathedral ceiling look with collar ties between every other roof rafter. Each roof rafter would have to be sistered as well. While the hour went by fast, I felt the advice was worth the money and can now proceed accordingly. One thing I thought he would have with him is a ladder (not a big deal), but he did at least have a flash light and clipboard.
Description of Work: Did a visual assessment of the middle level of my split level home to determine the best way to create an open floor plan and verbally discussed the options.

OHI did a great job with helping us with our kitchen remodel planning effort. They listened to our needs and desires and developed a plan and quote that met those needs. In the end, for other intangible reasons, we chose to hire another contractor. However, OHI's attention to details and very competitive bid put them in the final two. We will consider using OHI in the future and will recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Provided design ideas and quote for complete kitchen remodel.
It went really well. They had the best salesman - he really listened to me. The salesman was very good at asking me specifically what I wanted. He brought a sample board and offered different samples. The estimate was also the lowest, and he was very easy-going, honest, and had a no-pressure approach. He answered all my questions and was able to make adjustments in the estimate on things that I had forgotten.

The OHI team provided the most incredible remodel for our kitchen and master bathroom. Ray Gabler, our lead project designer, is a visionary whose "if man made it, we can change it" philosophy gave us the uninterrupted golf and mountain view we always wanted. Ray's team, led by Project Coordinator Steve Clemency and onsite Project Manager Blazaj, turned our dream into reality. They were in full support of our suggestions and minor changes during the remodeling and we welcomed their suggestions as well. The workmanship/craftsmanship was amazing to watch. Steve met with us every Friday to review the week's progress and the next week's events; there was never any surprises. Blazaj (who we consider an amazing craftsman) and his assistant Carlos (who did an awesome floor repair among his tiling skills), always cleaned up at the end of the day which was greatly appreciated. The entire OHI team, including their tile and granite contacts, were so professional. Everyone took their time to assure our gourmet kitchen and master bath was definitely our vision. Ohi Design and their teams are the best!!!

We were not that crazy about them. Paul came out and he gave us just stock drawings that he did to redesign the kitchen and then he wouldn't leave them for us. We were not that impressed with the redesign. It just seemed like he did it in a minute and then he was telling us the reason why he is not going to leave the design is because he didn't want us to use it with somebody else. We thought it was a lot of money. It was too much money for what they were going to do. He was on time and he came.

This provider is amazing. Ray came to our house and provided a design based on what we told him we wanted and then told us we could either add to it or take away. He was right on the money. The Project manager, Steve, visited our site everyday, but he did not stay there. However, if things did not go in exactly right, he pulled them out and redid them at no additional cost to us. He also kept us on track by letting us know when we needed to choose tile, and appliances. We chose to use Empire for our flooring and went with Appliance warehouse?? for our appliances. OHI was great about working around the other contractors and recommending vendors for additional stuff such as the tile and granite. The only thing that was different than I expected was that it is a lot of work to manage the budget and make all of the decisions for the project. After watching way too much HGTV, I thought the contractor would hold my hand through the process, but that did not happen. I love the design and everything came together, but once you decide on the plan and cabinets, the rest of the decisions you make on your own without the designer. We plan to use them again in the future to do our bathroom, if they will put up with me!

These guys are great! Paul the designer and his team are very knowledgeable and professional. He designed us a completely new master bath with custom designed shower, tub, bidet, toilet, vanity, floor, ceiling, electric. The crew ripped out walls, re-ran plumbing, re- tiled everything. It was a lot of work and they delivered professionally, consistently and patiently. OHI was not the cheapest, more like in the middle, but well worth it. They have a very efficient design and implementation model that is cost effective. A number of the companies out there primarily design firms that sub out the work. OHI doesn't work that way. They have full time crews that do it all. Money well spent and a great warranty. I'd definitely reccommend OHI, you will not be sorry.

The job Included complete demo, all required carpentry and drywall work to enlarge and relocate doors, all plumbing work for relocated shower, toilet and vanity sinks, complete redo of electrical for outlets, lighting and ventilation, new floor and shower tile, new glass shower walls and door, new cabinets and granite counter tops and complete repaint of entire master bath. The job took about 8 weeks to complete, which was the time frame OHI told us. OHI acquired and located onsite most all critical materials before they started the job so there was no change of schedule slip due to not having the necessary material on hand. The crew was very friendly and easy to work with. They blocked off the master bedroom from the demo dust and always covered the floor and steps before starting the days work as well as do a good job of cleanup at days end. The crew always checked with us before the work to make sure it was what we wanted. Many times they pointed out things we had not considered and provided suggestions and alternatives on how to complete the work. This was quite beneficial to us getting a completed project that we were very pleased with. Steve (supervisor), Al (crew boss) and Ray (designer) kept close tabs on the job to make sure the schedule and quality was up to our expectations. Overall the job progressed quite smoothly. When issues did pop up they were addressed quickly and to our satisfaction. The biggest issue we encountered was the initial granite back splash was the wrong size. Steve and the granite people spoke and the back splash was redone to the correct size. There was some schedule impact, but the correct size back splash and workmanship was more important to us than the minor schedule slip. We are very pleased with the final master bath design and implementation by OHI.

Last August my wife and I interviewed four different contractors to give us price estimates on remodeling our bathroom. The size of the bath is standard size roughly around 5 by 9. This was a complete makeover including replacing the tub, tile, vanity, etc. It also included some reworking of the electrical lighting and plumbing. There isn?t a lot of room for redoing the bathroom to make it more efficient. We selected four contractors for our bids from Angie?s List and Home Advisor based upon the comments posted. One of the contractors we dropped immediate when we discovered they would go out and find a general contractor to do the job. Two of the contractors gave us bids based upon allowances for the cabinetry, faucets, tub, etc. It was our job to go and pick out what we wanted and they would do the installation. In at least one case I was responsible for getting the permits. The bids came in at between $9,000-11,000. This was in line with what most people were charging for this type of construction project. However, we were concerned with the allowances. They seemed to be at the low end of the scale when we looked up prices on the internet. One contractor mentioned that we could select our tile from Home Depot. We felt our $9,000 project really was more like $12,000-$13,000 after we made the selection of materials. In both cases I had to tell them what I wanted. Neither of the contractors offered suggestions on how to improve the bathroom. Paul Seal from OHI Design came out and looked over our bathroom. He was the only one of the three contractors that gave us ideas on how to improve the looks and efficiency of the bathroom. He suggested widening the vanity and including drawers. Also he suggested removing the medicine cabinet replacing it with a mirror, while putting in a cabinet over the toilet (something that was hard for my wife and I to grasp). Paul brought out a catalog what fixtures and cabinets they would install and the price range. He worked up a detailed proposal that described everything that would be installed and drew up plans. Paul tried very hard to talk us into maple cabinetry. Paul?s reasoning was oak is dated. While this is true, my wife and I were insistent on oak as the rest of the house is oak. We felt that it would look out of place with the rest of the house. The original bathroom had a cherry cabinet and never quite looked right to us. Paul also suggested a shower door versus a curtain. While this was a $400 option it seemed like a good investment (I used my Angie?s List coupon). A week later OHI Design came back with a final proposal of $14,978. While OHI Design was significantly higher we felt we knew what we were paying for and they had a vision. On September 13 we signed a contract to redo the bathroom. This late date was due to family issues that Paul had to understandably take care of. At the contract signing I stated that I didn?t want the bathroom being worked on between November 15th and January 2nd as it would go into the holiday season. If it couldn?t be done by November 15th I would prefer it wait until the after the holiday. I knew the amount of dust and dirt drywall and grout makes. I gave them a $5,000 retainer. A week later (Sep 20) Len from OHI Design came out and did the final measurements and I gave them another $5,000. Time march on?and on?and on? I didn?t hear about the status of the project. Around mid-October I phone Paul. No response. I sent an email. No response. I phone Len. No response. Finally I sent an email to the secretary of OHI Design. She responded that all the fixtures were in except the vanity. This was due in at the end of November. A few days before Thanksgiving, I received a call from Len saying all the parts were in and they were ready to start the bathroom. My worst fears were realized. I scheduled to have the bathroom started on December 9th. Len said he would call me to confirm. Time march on..and on?and on. No call. Finally around Dec 6th I sent an email asking if they were indeed going to start on Dec 9th. I received a call stating they were planning on being at the house on Dec 9th. December 9th came and so did Scott and some workmen and a very large dumpster strategically placed in front of my two car garage so that I couldn?t get either car in or out. Scott said that it would take 3-4 weeks. I was taken aback as I was told it was only going to take a week. Three weeks would push it into Christmas. Scott said that he would try to get it done within that time frame. They brought out the materials and started working. To OHI Design?s credit they completed the project within one week. They had to work on Saturday and Sunday, but by the 16th it was done and we were painting. OHI Design did a professional job especially in the timeframe given. They were also extremely neat as they laid drop cloths everywhere and vacuum as they sanded. The materials used are top notched. When we experienced a small leak in the shower two days later, OHI immediately came out and fixed the problem. Sure we could have gone with a less expensive contractor, but I?m not sure in the end they would have been that much cheaper. OHI Design needs to work on their communication skills, but their vision and workmanship is excellent. We would not hesitate to use them again and would hardily recommend them to others.

I am well pleased with the work done in gutting & replacing my kitchen. What I did not like was that I called one of the owners with whom I signed my original contract, etc and told him I would appreciate some ideas on remodeling my main bath, etc. I asked him to let know his ideas & cost. He said he would call me back......I never heard a word. I can only assume he wanted bigger projects. It would have been nice to at least hear that they were too busy, or whatever the case might be. But after a complete kitchen makeover, I was very disappointed at never hearing a word about bathroom project. I contracted with another firm. Did a major remodeling.

When I called to explain that I had never received a call-back, the receptionist said she had notified the salesman, and added that they were "very busy". She offered to provide the salesman's contact information. I declined, saying that if they were too busy to return calls within a reasonable time, they were probably too busy to be responsive if I had contracted with them. A few weeks later, I received a call saying that the real reason the salesmen didn't call was that he had an operation and then an infection that sent him back to the hospital. Based on this, I revised my rating from "C" to "B", because they eventually followed up.
Description of Work: I called this contractor because two friends were happy with the results and planned to use them again in the future. When I called the receptionist said a salesman would get back to me - they didn't.
