Description of Work: Initially, the technician/salesman did not do his job of measuring the house and calculating the correct size for a replacement heat pump--instead, he used the size of the old unit. After at least a week of research on the Internet and at least 4 unsatisfactory contacts, the company sent someone to conduct the proper assessment and they found that the original size proposed was incorrect. They provided the correct heat pump and we are satisfied with it; however, the technicians who installed it had problems connecting it to our furnace and we are waiting (with some trepidation) to see how well our furnace works this winter. They did take corrective action and ensured that we got the right unit, so I gave them relatively high marks for professionalism and responsiveness. However, the problem should not have occurred in the first place. You really need to ensure that they are doing what they are supposed to do.

Description of Work: A representative from F.H.Furr came out to perform an assessment on our water heater. He came out in a hurry, was quick, professional and was HONEST!! He told us there was nothing wrong, turned up the internal control, solved our problem and didn't overcharge us. I would definitely recommend the company for using honest/reputable technicians!!

Description of Work: I called F.H. Furr on 4/15 to diagnose a problem with our gas hot water heater which was igniting but then immediately shutting down. I agreed to a service call fee of $119 and the technician promptly arrived. The technician then phoned with the repair estimate of $1,118 for a bad sensor and new expansion tank. I questioned why the cost was so high and the technician said $600 of the charge was to replace a 5 gallon expansion tank. I responded that these tanks cost $50 at Home Depot. I tentatively agreed to have the services performed because I have tenants living in the house, but the technician said I needed to call the main office to authorize and pay for the services before he could perform the work. I immediately googled and checked another company in Fairfax recommended by Home Depot and they said their charge for installation of an expansion tank is $150 and that an entire new hot water tank including installation/removal of old tank, new power vent, and new expansion tank was $1,700. I phoned the technician to explain my dissatisfcation with his estimate and he did not pick up. I then called F.H. Furr's main number and had them contact the technician to tell him I would pay the $119 service fee but I was going to have a new tank installed. The main office then contacted me and said he already finished the work. I said he was supposed to wait for me to authorize it at the main office and that it had only been 20 minutes since I spoke with him (so get this, $1,118 for 20 minutes work). The main office contacted the technician and then she came back to the line and said too bad, but the work is done. They will reduce the price to $862 but if I did not pay them they would turn over to collections. Can you believe this? I didn't authorize the work with the main office, and in 20 minutes they completed an extraordinarily overpriced repair, and then threaten me to pay or else!!! The whole experience was sleezy. I would absolutely NEVER recommend this company for anything. They are overpriced by 100s of percent. Again, $1,118 for 20 minutes work and hardly any parts cost, none of which was authorized at the main office. I rated quality as "n/a" only because the repair was completed just today and I don't want prematurely judge it as good or bad. Please note that I've owned homes for 20 years and have two rental properties and have had numerous experiences with contractors -- this is the FIRST time I've ever posted negative feedback on a contractor, so that should tell you something about my experience with F.H. Furr.

Description of Work: Excellent service from the salesperson, Eric Moore - came out on a weekend and explained our options in detail. Very informative. Because our 30 year old furnace had died and the house was very cold, FH Furr rushed to get a team out to install the new unit. We purchased a new gas furnace, a/c unit and hot water heater plus new attic insulation and duct cleaning. Very happy with FH Furr.

Not only was the service unsatisfactory, but I found the company representatives to be unresponsive with an attitude that, in my opinion, bordered on belligerent. I would never use them again,
