Our interaction with F.H. Furr did not go beyond a single sales call, but that one event was extremely unpleasant. We contacted F.H. Furr in the spring of 2010 after picking up their promotional material from a display at a local Home Depot. At that time, our house had two central A/C units, both past the end of their expected service life. One unit no longer held a charge. Our repair service advised that it should be replaced. The second A/C had some rattles, but worked well. We intended to get three estimates for replacing the first air conditioner. F.H. Furr was the second contractor that we saw. The F.H. Furr agent who came to our house advised us that second unit made sounds indicating that the unit was ready to fail at any moment. He advised that, for economy and efficiency, it would be best to replace both units rather than have the second unit break down just as the summer began. We asked the agent for estimates to replace both units and to replace only the first unit. Before giving us the estimates, the agent promised that we would get very competitive rates from Furr because of their volume and their long-time relationship with manufacturers and suppliers. Nonetheless, both estimates seemed high. When we told the Furr agent that his estimate to replace the first unit was about $1500 higher than the estimate provided by the earlier contractor (using identical equipment), he became very indignant. He demanded to know the name of the company and then proceeded to bad mouth the company, stating that they had a poor reputation and were undoubtedly going to take shortcuts in the installation (for example, by reusing old fittings and accessories). The conversation deteriorated further when we told the agent that a third estimate would help us determine if the first estimate was unrealistic and would help us decide if we should replace one or both units. The agent advised again that no one could provide quality products and quality installation for a lower price than Furr. He advised us that were getting a special preseason rate that could expire at any time and that, if we waited any longer, he could not give us assurance that a crew would be available to install our units before the beginning of summer. He angrily pressed his claim that we needed to replace both units, advising us that we were about to make a major mistake in not accepting his offer. I will sum this by stating that there was little progress in our discussion. The agent became increasingly petulant as we made it clear that we were not ready to commit to a contract before considering its details and without discussion with other vendors. We were greatly relieved when the agent left our house. We did not hear from the agent or from F.H. Furr again. The third contractor saw no reason to replace an A/C unit that made a few noises but worked well. He matched the price of the first contractor for replacing the dead A/C unit and installed the new unit with new fittings and drainage equipment. Not every detail of the installation was done correctly on the first visit, but all issues were eventually resolved. The second A/C unit has functioned flawlessly for two full seasons after the Furr agent said it would certainly expire. It still rattles, but it seems ready for a third season.

Excellent, from beginning to end I was surprised with the professionalism and thoroughness of the F.H. Furr people. At every step they exceeded my expectations. I got quotes from several other Heating/AC companies and F.H. Furr was the lowest. Their contract actually says in writing and quot; If you are not 100% satisfied, then don't pay us until you are. and quot; They actually brought vacuum cleaners and dust mops into my house and cleaned everywhere they had worked. I work in data centers and see lots of electrical wiring and communications wiring. When I look at the systems that F.H. Furr installed in my house I am very impressed with how neat, clean and and quot;tightand quot; the install is.

Beware. If they are willing to treat a customer of 11 years like this it doesnt speak well of them. I have used this company for many years and have had realtively good success, however, I recently called them out to put in a garbage disposal which I was supplying. I had a tech that was abrasive and had an attitude come out to look at the work. I was quoted a price of $400 to install the disposal which I was supplying. I could understand if I was buying the disposal from them, but I was using mine. When I stated that it seemed like a lot of money he began talking about overhead and insurance and how they effect the price. Then he wrote on the reciept that he had offered to do the work for $350 but I still refused. He had made no such offer. It seemed like he was trying to pull something over on me and I felt very distrustful of him. I was not happy and sent him away without doing the work. When I called to talk to the manager about the pricing he basically told me off for having his tech drive all the way out and not have the work done. He stated that these were the prices he had to charge to cover his overhead and stay in business and I had cost him money by having someone there but not paying them. I told him that I would be moving on to another plumber and he said that was fine. I have since had the work done for half the cost with a reputable company whose name was supplied by Angie.

They did a good job. I was very pleased. Their salesman was informative without being pushy. They came in and they seemed to know what they were doing. They did it quickly and efficiently. They were in and out in a very reasonable amount of time. The unit is working well. They followed up to see if I was happy with their work. They followed up themselves and I was very happy with the work. I've had it since this summer and I haven't needed them to come and do anything. I've got a service contract with them. They cleaned my air ducts too. Their prices were very reasonable. I had another estimate, but Furr gave me a lot of options as far as price. They were able to work with me on financing. The people that came and did the work were courteous and careful not to track stuff in my house. They did both the inside air handler and the outside heat pump.
Description of Work: I used the services of F H Furr Plumbing Heating Air Conditioning Inc in July. They replaced the unit and cleaned the air duct and the heat pump.

F H Furr installed an entirely new HVAC system in early 2010. Except for two items that were improperly installed originally but were later corrected at the first service call 6 months later, that went okay. The installation included a super-duper air filtration system with a high-end filter. As part of the original purchase contract, changing that filter is included in the subsequent twice-per-year maintenance calls. After 2 years and 4 service calls, F. H. Furr has NEVER had the proper filter on the truck available to the service technician. EVERY SINGLE TIME, F. H. FURR NEGLECTS TO HAVE THE RIGHT PART FOR THE FILTER SYSTEM THEY SOLD ME ON THEIR TRUCK. I have been told every time it will come later, along with either having to schedule another service call or having it delivered for me to install myself. Each time, I complain that (1) I paid for the service to be performed by F. H. Furr, not me; and (2) that I have to take time to be at home for the service technician for the maintenance call and don't appreciate being asked to wait around an entire day or pick another day to wait some more because F. H. Furr is unable to put a part on a truck. No manager has EVER called me back to discuss this situation. The managers are ALWAYS UNAVAILABLE and NEVER FOLLOW UP. F. H. Furr has NO REGARD FOR THE VALUE OF TIME OF ITS CUSTOMERS. They repeatedly waste my time and do not even have the courtesy to follow-up with a phone call from a manager to apologize. Also, service calls are scheduled in 4-hour windows. The office calls in advance to say when the tech is on his way. They do not volunteer when to expect arrival. If asked, they always say 30 minutes to one hour. The techs arrive anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours later. Poor coordination and poor communication abound in that area too.

I have used Furr many times in the last 20 years and I know that they cost more than most plumbers in the area, but they are very responsive and punctual. When my toilet was overflowing and flooded the downstairs, I called and they were there within a few hours. The first guy there was very good. He snaked out the main drain and recommended the camera to determine the cause and find out if more work may need to be done to prevent the drain from getting clogged again. Because the camera guy was busy, this had to be rescheduled for later in the week and he recommended the toilet remain "un hooked" until the camera guy came back because he would charge me to take the toilet off again to run the camera. I paid for the snake and the camera work - $1300 - seemed pretty high. The next day the camera guy came and I was not there. My husband let him in and he ran the camera through. My husband was asking some questions and he said he was too busy to talk (he was rolling the camera spool back up) and he would get to him later. My husband left him to his work and never saw him again. Bottom line - I have no idea where the blockage was, what caused it, or how to prevent it from happening again. I basically spent $1300 to have my drain snaked. Even with a 20 year history, Furr probably won't get my business again. Sorry.

We began to smell gas the day after our FH FURR Tech gave our Furnace a Tune-Up and a clean bill of health for Safety and called in Washington Gas to check all of our house for gas leaks. After 3 hours checking all of our gas appliances and connections, Washington Gas determined it was coming from a malfunctioning gas valve in the Furnace. Called FH FURR to fix, what in my mind was obviously their responsibility . They came in the next day and told us the gas valve was not working and since our equipment was just out of the 5-YR warranty, the part and service would not be covered. VALVE Price Quote $700, Part order Fee $60, Service call $150....oh and $150 for the expedited current visit. I was completely taken off guard and after my complaining and and quot;a call to the managerand quot;, the technician said if I paid $600 right now, he would procure the part and be back in a few days to repair. Luckily, I was not in a hurry as the fall weather had still not turned too cold so I told the tech to get out!!! While there is no way to prove FH FURR actually caused the and quot;leakand quot; it did begin the day after their tech came in and give our furnace a tune-up. Coincidences do happen....I guess!!! I immediately contacted another HVAC repair company and they confirmed that the valve was not functioning....for a $50 fee. This was a good use of my money. I did not have a service plan with this company and they did not install the equipment, and they still charged $100 less than FH FURR to make the visit....Anyway, I decided to have my neighbor fix the problem. He used to work for one of the local HVAC companies installing systems. I ordered the part on-line for a grand total (including expedited shipping ) of $105 and added in a mid priced had-held gas leak detector for $125 and paid my neighbor $100. Total cost $330 for this and quot;Coincidenceand quot;! FH FURR can tale their 600% mark-up, $15 monthly fee and shady business practices and find another and quot;customerand quot; to scam. My family's health is too important to trust a company like FH FURRRRRRR.

Overall did not go well. They refused to let me speak to the owner about the labor fee!!
Description of Work: I had a yearly contract with this company for 5 years. Had them replace my kitchen garbage disposal. I was not home , my husband was. They did the job in half and hour and the discounted price was 619.00. The part was 145- The rest was labor. 474.00 for half hour job. When I called to get them to justify the labor charges, they said they did not have to justify anything to me. That was their price. I called around and job should have been max 390-. Cancelled my contract, I was robbed!!!

Overall the process was quick and professional, but one would have to think in this case you would simply tell the home owner there is really not an issue just needed to tighten a nut on the nozzle sprayer! I would think there maybe a minimal charge of $40 - $60 for the technican coming out and not the full charge of $180 for what took all of five minutes from start to finish!
Description of Work: I had a small leak with the kitchen facet. I was under the impression that the facet was in need repair, but the technican detemine the nut was slighty loose on the back of the sprayer nozzle. He diagnosed the problem in about a minute and fixed it in 15 seconds with lock-tite adhesive.

Came home from a weekend away to find my a/c dead. So I called the "professionals". Gentleman showed up in the usual pressed slacks and button down, made a big deal about putting on his booties in the house, checked the brakers and the a/c unit at least a dozen times over a 2.5 hour time span. Said it was useless and I had to replace the system entirely, gave me an estimate between 4 and 7 grand to replace everything and left. I requested estimates from several HVAC companies and one of them fixed my "dead" a/c in 10 min with one part he had in his truck. Best $150 bucks I ever spent. After I made a stink, FH FURR promised to refund me the original $115 I was charged to babysit but I haven't recieved it yet.
Description of Work: So, all day I have been dealing with people giving me estimates about my dead a/c. 15 minutes ago Shanahan's came over, took him 10 minutes to turn the air on!!! I had 7 estimates of 7-8 GRAND!!! The reason I am so upset is because FH Furr was in my home for close to 3 hours and said my a/c had a frozen compressor. Said he tried to revive the system! What he did was put the copacitor back wrong!! Its a wonder we didn't catch fire!! Yes the man was neat and punctual but he apparently did not understand a/c's. Fraud or Incompetance, you decide...

I had a contract with this provider for about two years for plumbing and HVAC. Although they were always very friendly and responsive, they were always trying to replace or upsell my plumbing or equipment. For example, my toilets were less than four years old, but they insisted on replacing, not repairing, the inside material ... at the cost of $275 for five minutes work per toilet.. When my HVAC Unit broke down, they quoted me $1500 to replace my TXV valve. I got a second opinion and the diagnosis was correct, but they charged me $700--I would've paid $800 more with this company for the same work. Overall, I like the company, but I believe they overcharge to the extreme and train their techs to and quot;pushand quot; unnecessary replacements at a high rate, rather than just repairing what is broken.
Description of Work: Quoted me $1500 for a TXV Valve in my HVAC Unit, but did not perform the work.
