They're good when it comes to heating and air conditioning but I wasn't crazy about his skillset when it came to plumbing. He squeezed around the garbage disposal to work on the faucet even though he was taking that out as well. It would have been easier for him to just take the disposal out anyway so that would have given him more room. They didn't do the best job in installing the faucet.
Description of Work: They were there to replace the kitchen sink faucet as well the garbage disposal.

They have been very good. They are a big company in my area and I have been happy with them as they seem very honest and very helpful. They are expensive but I get what I pay for. Their workmanship has been good and I have been happy with it. They have been good to me and came out right away when I had the leak. They were very polite when they called to ask if they could postpone my inspection as there were others whose systems were not working. They try and put the customer first as much as possible. They are always empathetic and put little socks on their feet so that they do not muck up my floor. It is these little touches I like and they do an awesome job of cleaning up. The guys who come out are well dressed in uniforms and show up with all the right tools the first time itself. I would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I used F H Furr Plumbing Heating Air Conditioning Inc to fix a leak I had. I am a part of their service plan where they perform a spring and summer check on my heating and air conditioning system.

Do not use FH Furr They are over-priced. They do not do the job. FH Furr came out to my house to fix a plumbing leak. They charged $371 just to detect the leak. They opened up my ceiling in the powder room which was located underneath the bathroom that had the leak. They said that the leak was caused by old caulk and grout in the bathroom. They wanted $850 to re-caulk the bathroom tiles. I did it myself in just a few nights. Not only did he mid-diagnose the problem, he took with him my exhaust fan cover and drywall that he removed from the ceiling. I had to call the manager to have him return my personal property. However the caulk and grout was not the problem. After re-caulking and groutng the bathroom we tested for the leak. It was still present. We called FH Furr out again and they re-diagnosed the problem. They put two more holes in my walls and said it was a pipe leak. Even though there was no water damage inside the wall where he said the leak was he charged me $374 to replace a pipe where he said was the problem. We used the shower and tub again it was still leaking. I called McCarthy Services to fix. They came out the first time and fixed the problem the first time. Therefore FH Furr came out twice to fix the plumbing leak, diagnosed it wrong two times and never completed the job Do not use FH Furr.
Description of Work: I had a plumbing leak. I called FH Furr to come out to detect and fix. They came out twice and diagnosed it wrong twice. Charged me over $700 and took some personal property from my home. The leak was not fixed. 3 holes were put in my walls and ceiling. Do not use FH Furr.

I would never use Furr again or refer them to anyone else.
Description of Work: I purchased a new outdoor unit in apx. 07/2009. However, the unit has a manufacture's date of 2003 and is already malfunctioning. When the serviceman came out in 2010 because the unit wasn't cooling my home, he said the serviceman who installed it should have raised the unit off the ground. However, this serviceman didn't bother to correct the problem by raising the unit off the ground. He also swore he'd been to my home before and tried to take my box of fuses, insisting he'd left them there the last time he was at my home. Furr is extremely overpriced, never fixes the problem and seems to create more problems.

Crew showed up on time, and called a supervisor when they ran into trouble. The work was finished by the end of the day, and the a/c -- most welcome in the DC area -- has run flawlessly ever since So... why the downgrade? Well, the technicians installed a 'smart' thermostat (I had one already installed, they installed a new one anyway). Unfortuantely, they did NOT hook the thermostate up to the heating system. So.. when the cold wx showed up, the heat didn't. I called for a technician who showed up believing I'd purchased a heat pump and spent some time telling me that my unit doesn't heat. When I finally convinced him that it was a matter of hooking up the gas heat to the thermostat, he discovered that the wire required to do that had been dropped and a heating technician would need to install. Some days later, the heating tech showed up, hooked everything up, and we now have heat and a/c.

Called Furr to report that the zone valve on my a/c was not working. Technician came over, spent 15 minutes looking for a valve in his truck, then had to go to a local store to get one. Once he got back it took 10 minutes to install. Charged $115.for 'diagnostic' (even though I knew what the problem was) and $378. for the valve and 10 minute installation (total $493.) I later researched and found that the valve costs less than $50. I should have refused to pay then and called Mr. Furr. I wrote to Mr. Furr February 13th but never received a response.r my a/c.

We were very impressed with the two workers that cleaned the air ducts. They came prepared with all the right equipment, were careful not to track dust around the house, showed me the ducts that were filthy - and then how they looked after cleaning, and just did an excellent job. Although I saw that other companies offered lower prices for this service (it was rolled into the entire contract) I do think that paying a little extra for the quality was well worth it. The HVAC installation crew were also knowledgeable and professional; however one of them used our dryer as a place to stand and dented it - and then didn't say anything to us. To the company's credit, they took care of the problem within a week and the top of the dryer was replaced. We are thoroughly enjoying our new HVAC and the clean air ducts!

FH Furr is horrible. Not my first experience with them but I thought I should give them another chance. Their people are on commission and their job is to try to get as much money from the customer in the least amount of time, even if that means breaking something to fix it. I had a leak in my kitchen ceiling from a pipe. The guy comes in, breaks my cookie jar, cuts a hole in my ceiling, then tells me the leak is too close to the air duct and he has to cut another hole from upstairs. He then says that the hvac cew might have to come in to remove the hvac system in order for them to fix the pipe. This was suppose to be a "free inspection/estimate" but because he had cut a hole, he charged me and left. I called CB Lucas, they came by, fixed it in less than an hour, charged me less than FH Furr and left. I told the technician about FH Furr and he smiled and told me he used to work for FH Furr and left because of their questionable practices. He gave me the name of the people to call to get my money back. After much fighting and threatening over the phone, they refunded my money but not after insulting me and calling me all kinds of names. This was my second and last experience with them. I tell everyone what sort of company it is. I am a professor and teach around 300 students each semester. I always tell stories like this to my students and encourage them to spread the word. I wonder how much business it has cost them so far. The more the better.
Description of Work: Cut a hole in my ceiling, said they have to cut another hole upstairs, no guarantee they can fix it as they might have to get another crew in to remove and reinstall the hvac system, charged me and left. Problem was never solved.

The installation team (Kenny and Moe) arrived right on time. They were careful to explain everything that needed to be done for the removal of the old system and installation of the new units. Both men were professional and highly efficient in their work. They accomplished their tasks in just a few hours and were careful to avoid making a mess in the house. After installatiion they took the time to go over all steps for registering my equipment and getting proper inspections done by county inspectors.

I have a 10-year warranty on it. They came in and put both the indoor and outdoor units in less than a day. The unit is absolutely great. They sold me the best unit for the house and the air flow is great. My heating and electric bills have gone down by about 50 percent just because of the unit. They will come and see me twice a year but I have to arrange it. I just have to remember to arrange it. The only thing I wish that they would do is allow me to ask them to come every March and every October. They could automatically put the dates on my thing and computers can do that nowadays. The pricing was right there with everybody else. They didn't try to sell me more than I needed. They were punctual. They were professional. I was considering getting an addition put in and I was going to go with them as far as my heating and air. They also do plumbing. I was going to have them do the plumbing on my addition and the heat and air, but I decided against doing an addition because I couldn't find a contractor in the area that I could count on.

Called Costco and they sent over F H Fur. The salesman was a young man who seemed professional at the beginning. When I explained to him the different options I was pursuing he indicated that they would be more expensive using the COSTCO discount. I didn't know that he would be 1.5 times as expensive. He worked out the numbers on his laptop and verbally gave them to me. I told him I had another quote coming in during the next week. He seemed surprised and incensed that I didn't place the order with him then. Every other brand of equipment that I mentioned to him he had something bad to say about them. If the only way you cam sell your product is to badmouth the competition then maybe there is something wrong with your product. He took my email address and was to email me a quote. Well...... it's one week later, I have my system installed and running, and no quote from them. I wouldn't recommend them at all just based on the sales experience BTW - I did introduce him to my neighbor that needs his system replaced and guess who isn't getting a recommendation?

FH Furr was called to replace the home's main water line valve. When turned off, the main value allowed considerable flow due to age and improper sealing of the valve when closed. The plumber that came was extremely professional, albeit not very personable. His finished work was outstanding. The task took approximately one hour with a cost of around $400.00. While I was satisfy with the finished job, I was concern with the higher than average cost. Because of some immediate work that needed to be done to the home's water line, the main water valve needed to be replaced in short order, preventing a lot of and quot;researchand quot; for comparable companies. In a pinch, I would call FH Furr again, but if time allows, I would definitely shop around. Big shops require lots of money to operate, and hence higher cost.

Overall experience (in a nutshell), Not impressed, Not going to use this company again, and Not going to refer this company to anyone. I reallly hate wasting my time even writing this report because I feel like enough of my time (and money) has been taken by this company that I do not want to give it more, but as an Angie's List member I really read reviews and depend on them. Therefore, the this companies existing track record and ratings speak for it self. I should have known what to expect just by the reviews alone, but I always hear people say that F.H. Furr is pricey but good.....I thought, Well I should give them a try, they seem popular and have a large array of services, let's give them an opportunity....that was my very First and Last opportunity for F.H. Furr! Did a live chat with a representative via online and was called by a customer service rep within a short period of time. The rep was very friendly and cordial, I was thinking that I made the right choice. The rep said that a plumber could be sent out for free to give me an extimate....even better. I was told that dispatch would call me one hour prior to sending someone out and I did receive a call and the plumber arrived in less than hour...again, was thinking I made the right choice. The dream stops there! After saying Hello, and nothing further,I proceed to introduce myself and shake hands with the plumber (which he then introduces himself in return). I begin to show him the plumbing items I needed repaired...Copper pipe...pvc elbow...running toilet...faucet hose. I had also told the rep on the phone that I would like to know how much it was to replace a sump pump since I know I would need to do so in the future, especially before I finish my basement. The plumber looks at the items and when we go into the basement for the pipes he gives them a look over and makes concerning remarks like, and quot;Owww...Emmmand quot; He remarks how the pipes could go anytime (although the pvc elbow was a very old leak and no longer active, but I still wanted it replaced to be on the safe side). Then he hones in on the sump pump, mind you, he does not remove the cover to view the pump, he just stands by the sump pump and says, and quot; The other items are not as important as getting your sump pump replaced. This is just a cheap builder's grade pump, our pumps are made out of titanium and could last 20 years. And if I'm going to replace the elbow I would just replace the whole pump which I would be replacing the discharge (recall) line too since you don't put in a new sump pump without replacing that too.and quot; I'm thinking, Yes, it makes sense to replace the discharge/recall line if you put in a new sump pump, but I am currently asking for an Elbow to be replaced and would appreciate a quote on the pump but was planning on having a full replacement job of the whole system done right now. Boy-O-Boy do I Regret mentioning the sump pump becasue then entire time he is in my home he does not stop talking about it!!! First I should tell you the shock and awe I got when I saw the estimate!! A total of of over $1700 for all items...including the sump pump. Break down...sump pump $641...running toilet $311...copper pipe $432...pvc elbow $337. He said, and quot;I didn't put the sink hose on there, what I'll do is try and seal it and see if that works, but I won't charge you for it becuase I can't guarantee if it'll work. Its a cheap builder grade faucet that's not worth putting a lot of money into.and quot; I told the plumber that there was no way I was going to pay over $300 for a toilet that's running (and barely running)! I said, I just bought a repair kit and will try that. He replied by saying he understood and I could try that, but it wouldn't work. I asked why won't it work, he said because it's not just the float valve. I said I didn't care and I would try that first versus paying $300 for a easy repair. Well, it came down to this, I got the two pipes replaced and the plumber did try to reseal the faucet which helped but didn't work, which I knew it might not so I bought a new hose for it. And the plumber said he would put in my toilet repair kit and fix the flapper inside without charge. I really appreciated that and my $10 kit with the flapper fix worked! I said no to the sump pump but was hounded about it the whole time....and quot;Let me call my supervisor to see if we can get a better quoteand quot;.....and quot;If you can reach your husband to check with him it'll be the best quote today becuase you'll get charged a $70 return fee next time we come outand quot;......and quot;I left a message with my superviorand quot;.....and quot;my supervisor called back and said the lowest we can do it is $450and quot;.....all the while saying, and quot; It's up to youand quot;....I said Thank you for the quote but I have HVAC work that needs to be done first and is my priority. I think this all reflects on professionalism and in addition to that I later noticed that the plumber was not wearing shoe booties which he was walking in and out of my unfinished basement bringing in white powder on my wooden floors. He also left pvc shavings, soldering drips of metal all on the floor (luckily they didn't adhere to the concrete floor), and plumbing lube that was globbed on the floor that the plumber barely wiped up (which I later had to scrub but it already stained) when he was showing me the work that was done. I expect 110% professionalism, service, and respect for me and my home when I am paying (and top dollar at that) your company to do work, especially when I could have chosen any of your competitors (which I will now do). I was really expecting this to be a good experience with F.H. Furr and I would be a repeat customer, but it was quite the opposite. I will NOT be using F.H. Furr again, and I am so put off by them that I am canceling my HVAC appt with them and going with another company who focusing on the customer, not the dollar! This is my genuine, first-hand, factual experience and impression of this company, and I hope this helps my fellow Angie's List members.

The company did attempt to repair the heating unit. They rewired a portion of the unit in the attic. After the first attempt, the unit broke down again. When we contacted them the 2nd time, the technician said that everything may have to be rewired which would be expensive. We were also given the option of a new heating unit. We called another company and got the problem solved. We found out that we did not need a new unit, nor did we need new wiring for our heating system. The problem was when the temps went below freezing, the air handler would shut down. The motherboard in the air handler needed to be replaced. We realize that heating and airconditioning technicians are problem shooting through process of elimination. The reason I am giving this company a C is because I got two phone calls about replacing the unit. My perception was that they were more interested in making the sale and not as committed to actually helping us solve the problem.

I first contacted F.H. Furr at COSTCO. The service representative was very, very helpful and arranged for a home energy audit. When I missed several follow-up phone calls, the company sent a very professional reminder notice. I followed up and confirmed an appointment. On the day of service, a very nice "certified energy specialist" showed up on time. He took the time to explain what needed to be done and then proceeded to conduct a very through energy audit. He was able to identify areas where additional insulation and duct cleaning would save money and allow me to purchase a more efficient heating and air conditioning unit. Most importantly, he took the time to make certain that I understood the tests being done and the findings. This was greatly appreciated and helped me make some difficult decisions with a feeling the I was adequately informed. The energy audit was very professional and I highly recommend it for anyone with an older home.

They were fine. They came out. They were in uniforms and went away. We had no problems with the system. They were everything I was looking for in a contractor. They scheduled their guys to come out and do a realistic assessment of what we needed. They didn't try to sell us any extras that wouldn't be useful for us. They showed up when they said they were going to and installed our stuff and they took care of the plummeting and we never had to deal with them again. Everything works perfectly and they were good.

I don't normally write reviews -- but this company is exceptionally bad. If you call them for a repair expect a hard sell marketing visit and don't trust the diagnosis. I was told the problem was worse than it was, and strong armed into setting up another appointment for more service. My furnace stopped working. From the Yellow Book I called F H Furr. The guy diagnosed the problem and told me that I needed $800 in repair (several broken parts). Fortunately my furnace has a self diagnosis feature on it, and when I pointed out the discrepancy – presto my “necessary” repair dropped from $800 to $275. I mentioned that I was having my AC replaced in the summer. The guy called his marketing person and insisted that I use his cell phone to immediately set up an appointment for F H Furr that week (which I promptly cancelled as soon as he left). I was told that my hot water heater would break “anytime” and I needed to have it replaced quickly or risk “extreme” damage to my floor and basement (I don’t think so). I was told that I “really” needed a service plan with F H Furr, and had to listen through the sales pitch. And finally he left advertising stickers on both my furnace and hot water heater. Clearly these guys are paid a bonus or commission on pull – through sales. Don’t hire this company!

I got connected with FH Furr through Costco's HVAC program. Considering that, the price was good compared to other estimates I had gotten for a similar system replacement. The initial estimate and install experience was good. I got the estimate scheduled quickly and the estimator arrived on time. He didn't push for the most expensive equipment or unnecessary things like replacing the A/C refrigerant lines as my old ones were still fine. I ended up choosing a very efficient Lennox XP21 3 ton heat pump combined with a less (80%) efficient SL280v gas furnace, as the heat pump would be doing most of the heating and cooling work. The install was scheduled for a little over a week away. The install crew arrived on time and had everything done by 4pm or so. Why the C rating then? The install crew had the thermostat wiring and furnace configuration wrong, and it was still wrong after someone came back to fix it. The system was set up for a 4 stage thermostat, but the new thermostat was only a 3 stage. The gas furnace was supposed to take over heating duty below 40 degrees outside temperature. It wasn't... the heat pump would stop but the furnace wouldn't start. i flipped through the installation guides and figured the problem out myself. I could have fixed it right then but I called them to come back and fix it anyway. They did promptly send somebody out to fix it... but he only fixed it halfway. The incorrect wiring was fixed, but not the furnace configuration. The furnace was running now, but it wasn't switching from low to high heat after 15 minutes like it should. One little switch on the control board had to be flipped. i didn't bother calling them again, I just fixed it. Sadly, had I not been observant I never would have known. I hope there's not a bunch of not quite right systems installed out there now. After the fact I did email Mike Davis, the installation manager at the time about all this and didn't get a response. If I decide to get a maintenance contract or other service done later, I'm going with a different company.
Description of Work: Replace old A/C unit and furnace with a new heat pump/gas furnace hybrid system.
