The salesperson was nice and fairly knowledgeable. They delivered the right products as promised although they brought the wrong furnace. To their credit they were able to bring out the right one same day and get it installed. The installers were courteous and professional and cleaned up thoroughly before they left. Unfortunately they had to come back 3 times to get the system to work properly. Another time to fix/replace the thermostat and a fifth time time to redo the drainage for the AC unit. All this was under warranty and to their credit they came out on time each instance and fixed the problems we had. Little disconcerting that they were not able to properly install the unit to work with the comfort R setting which is a big reason why we chose this system in the first place. They sent out 3 different techs until finally one of them figured it out. If you sell Trane then you should know how to install it. I gave them a B rating because they were professional and on time with repairs and responsiveness. I am torn on whether I would use them again but there is no choice for maybe.
Description of Work: Installed a Trane AC and Trane furnace. 16xli and 95 xv. We're able to finance for 5 years same as cash which is why we ended up going with FH Furr. They also installed a high end filtration system. Also got 5 year labor and parts guarantee.

Phone service was very good. THe problem with plubers is that they don't give you free quote so you are kind of stuck.

Excellent job from start to finish
Description of Work: I had a new heating and air conditioning system installed. The salesperson was knowledgeable, professional and respectful. The representatives in the office were very helpful and the technicians showed up on time, respected my home and did a great job. I highly recommend F.H Furr for any of your heating, air conditioning and/or plumbing needs.

We went with Furr after getting several estimates. The negotiation process was long, but eventually we think we arrived at a fair price. The installation work seemed to go well, but when we had the final inspection done by Fairfax County, it did not pass. The flue pipe was not angled correctly, creating a potential carbon monoxide hazard in our home. Furr was cooperative in setting up a call to fix the installation, but they arrived over an hour and a half after their original window had expired, and I had to call the company repeatedly to ask for updates on when they would arrive - they weren't proactive in letting me know what was going on. The technician did the work to correct the problem, and explained to me what he did and how it now should meet code. I will have it reinspected. There was no charge for correcting the installation problem.

I hired FH Furr through Home Depot installation services. I was completely replacing my HVAC and ductwork throughout the house. The price, quality of work and timeliness were totally unacceptable. I had to pay the full cost of the job up front to Home Depot and had no leverage to compel FURR to correct the mistakes and poor workmanship. I hired Furr due to their reputation and thought I was paying a premium for high quality service. I wil NEVER EVER hire FH Furr or use Home Depot Installation services again. The crew was late starting the job, did not file appropriate permits prior to starting the job, lied about the status of permits, identified asbestos within five minutes of starting the job (but didnt seem to notice the same asbestos while pointing to it during the pre-installation site visit). The crew did not protect my floors, left gaping holes in the side of my house where the old unit was removed, had major punchlist items which I had to identify myself, and did not install the ductwork properly (not insulated, not taped or sealed properly). Seven months after the start of this job, Home Depot eventually hired a company that had to tear out all of the duct work in the attic and replace because the ducting had become saturated from condensation which developed due to improper installation. I cancelled the blown in insulation part of this project due to total incompetence and lack of coordination. FH Furr never indicated they were subcontracting the insulation work out and only admitted to it when pinned into a corner and could not explain how the work was going to be done. The two contractors who came to look at the defective installation could not believe I paid $17,000 for such crap work. Home Depot and FH Furr will not refund any of the cost of this project despite the fact that I had to meet the crew multiple times to follow up on all the defective work. I spoke with one of the general managers at FH Furr who claimed they did have to do a good job, they just needed to do the scope of work identified in the contract. His exact words were and quot;we dont have to do a good job, we just have to do the job. As long as I keep coming back to fix the problems you identify, I dont owe you any refundand quot;. He then refused to come out to fix any defective items unless I promised to pay the full price agreed to in the contract. I have never felt so violated or disrepected by any contractor. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY, THEY ARE A RIP OFF!!! Home Depot doesnt seem to care that they are associated with such a disreputable contractor. I intend to go to court to recoup the cost of damage to my home and the cost and inconvenience incured over the nine month time frame it took to resolve the issues. This job was supposed to take four days and turned into a nine month NIGHTMARE. Home Depot has lost my business forever. FH Furr should not be in business.

F.H. Furr employs polite people who are capbable and conscientious except for (1) not being able to meet all the requirements of their service contracts in a timely manner and (2) not demonstrating respect for the value of the customer's time. In six maintenance calls over 3 years, F. H. Furr has only had the correct air filter on the truck once. The technicians invariably explain no one told them a special filter is required. This leads to either having to extend the length of the service call until the part is brought over or having to schedule a follow-up service call. In either event, my time is wasted unnessarily through lack of oversight by (or perhaps and quot;ofand quot;) the F.H. Furr service department. The details of the service requirements are stipulated in writing in the F.H. Furr contract form. The form was written out originally by an F.H. Furr employee. After phone conversations with service representatives and managers after the fall service a year ago, the filter was on the truck for this year's spring maintenance call. I was told a special note had explicitly been added to the service file to flag the need for that particular filter. Two days ago, a technician arrived for the fall maintenance call without the filter. I told him he could start the service when he had the filter in his possession. He told me I was wrong, the filter only needs to be changed once per year. I explained my contract calls for twice per year filter changing. After calling his office, he informed again me I was wrong, the filter only needs to be changed yearly. So, I spoke with his supervisor by phone. The supervisor told me I was wrong. I explained the contract requirement again and observed that F.H. Furr had been replacing the filter twice per year. The supervisor told me he would research the issue and call me back. During his return call, he told me I was correct afterall. All this took up my time and was quite aggravating. It also was the fifth time in three years I was going over this exact same topic. The technician supposedly was outside in his truck during the conversation with the supervisor. I asked the supervisor to have the technician come back in and at least do as much as he could. The technician did not return within a few minutes, so I looked for him. In the meantime, the he had left without saying a word. Also, no one from the office called me to say he was gone and to reschedule. I called the F.H. Furr office and complained the technician had disappeared without saying anything. They rescheduled for two days later at 9:30 AM. At 9:00, I was called and told the Wednesday shop meeting was going long, and the technician would arrive between 10:30 and 11:00. At 12:00 I called F.H. Furr to ask the whereabouts of the technican. I was told to expect him by 1:00 PM. He arrived at 12:35. F.H. Furr has repeatedly wasted this customer's time (on the order of many hours). The time has been wasted because of the same issue over and over again. F.H. Furr has repeatedly demonstrated an inability to correctly supply their service personnel with the filters necessary to properly execute regularly scheduled maintenance on equipment the firm originally installed.
Description of Work: Service is provided under an annual contract calling for spring (a/c) and fall (heater/humdifier) maintenance. A special clause calls for a special air filter to be changed twice per year. The special filtering unit was installed by F. H. Furr when the firm installed a completely new HVAC system in January 2010. F. H. Furr has for 3 years been unable to ensure the proper filter is on the truck to be used during the semi-annual maintenance calls.

I had been a service contract customer of FH Furr, for many years. I terminated the contract (last year) due to very poor treatment by the customer service reps. I decided to try again after receiving a coupon for seasonal furnace checkup. The technician was good and performed the check up in a timely manner. He told me that there is a problem with my gas valve and gave me a quote. When I called the office today to ask questions about the valve, I was met (again) by a rude and impatient CSR. I requested to speak with a manager to ask my questions. She spent several minutes discouraging this suggesting that I only speak with the technician. That is not what I wanted which caused her to exhale loudly and become more rude. I did leave my phone number eventually. If I do hear from the manager I will tell him why I will never attempt to use FH Furr again. FH Furr prices are exorbitant. It is my expectation that the company could hire employees who have the ability do deal properly with the public. I hung up and called one of the company's competitors from Angie's list, the person who answered was professional and pleasant!
Description of Work: Contacted the company to ask questions about a part that was suggested that I need for a furnace repair.

F H Furr plumber came over on time as scheduled. Trying to clean main sewage line, but he could not get his augur machine through the door. He has a gigantic old machine. ( at the moment , I really wanted to fix the problem. I did not see the bad sign, when the plumber does not have an equipment to do his job) So, he recommended to snake from my upstairs bath room, but after an hour he could not snake it because the wire went to roof vent instead. ( been told from others later that the plumber should recommend camera inspection before perform snake drain cleaning, so this company failed to give an intelligent professional advice) Bad situation came to worst when he needed an assistant to do his job and charged more for assistant labor. ( again he failed to acknowledge customer at the first time when giving proposal that only for 1 man labor and not for entire project) Even with additional assistant, they could not fix the problem and left me, the first time customer, hung on with clogged drain. They left with a extremely expensive verbal proposal to fix the problem. Please don't wasted your time and money to his company.

They quoted a price for one of their high-end systems and said they will beat any other competitor for that particular model. The salesman was very very convincing and we almost didn't bother to get a competitor's quote since we thought FH Furr is supposed to be good. When we presented them with a competitor's quote that was 20% lower, they went back on their initial guarantee. So we didn't go with them.

I decided to replace my old and failing HVAC system with a new, energy-efficient system. The F.H. Furr salesman arrived on time for my appointment, answered all my questions, explained my options, and was very responsive when I contacted him subsequently. The installers also arrived on time, were very professional, and left my house and my yard in perfect condition. I especially appreciated that the installers took the time to walk me through how to operate and service the new system.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to replicate the problem but Jimmy from FH Furr arrived quickly after I called for help. I had already had the water shut off by the County the night before though and when he turned it back on, we were unable to replicate the problem. He spent a very good amount of time explaining to me possible reasons it had occurred and things to do if it happens again and potential proventative steps. Unfortunately, my entire plumbing system is in need of replacement and he called to schedule someone to come give me an estimate for that, too. There was no hard sell however and I was very happy with their attempt to find the problem and make sure the situation was ok to the best of their ability.

This was procured through Costco. Salesman was extremely professional and not very pushy. He made it easy for us to make a change and even accomodated our schedule by coming to our house on a weekend. Workers arrived right on time and completed the job in under an hour. They wore booties and covered everything in the room where they accessed the house. They built bulkheads in the eaves as recommended by most professionals and they cleaned up before leaving. All in all it could not have gone better - looking forward to lower electric bills this winter.

Furr installed this power vent gas water heater in 2007 when the one that was in the house when we bought it failed at 17 years old. Their price at the time was consistent with others. That installation went fine. The technician who did it seemed to never refer to any instructions and when I asked he said that this was the most common gas water heater that Furr installs and he had personally probably installed hundreds of them. No problems and the water heater worked perfectly until last weekend. Over the Labor Day weekend the water heater suddenly stopped working, which wasn't noticed until my wife ran a cool bath. The gas control unit had some error lights showing so disconnected the power to the unit, waited a while, and plugged it back in. It cycled up and began working fine. I checked it the next day, and still OK. On Tuesday night it did it again, but this time it would start and run for a couple minutes then just shut down again. Early Wednesday morning I called Furr and arranged for a technician to come out that afternoon as I had to be gone in the morning. The scheduler made a point (something new to me) that the and quot;diagnosticand quot; fee would be $97. OK -- just get him out here today. Early in the afternoon they called that he was on the way and he arrived about 45 minutes later. He listened to my story, tried it himself, and after about 3-4 minutes in the house said that it needed a new flame sensor (later I found out it's also called the HSI). That was it. I asked about the 6 year parts warranty on the water heater and showed him that in the documentation that came with the water heater. The installing technician put on the form that it was a 2 year parts warranty, which was a mistake I never caught. He agreed that it had a 6 year parts warranty, but then said that he didn't have the part, it wasn't at their depot, and they would probably have to order it from some place near Baltimore. He then added that he'd seen quite a few of these flame sensors fail and had no idea why they were not standard items on the truck. Then, in a rather formulaic tone he announced that the and quot;diagnosticand quot; portion of the call had been completed using wording that he apparently had been told to use. Then he said that he could do a repair on-site right now that would get the water heater working until a new flame sensor could be installed -- and that it would cost $150. Looking at many days without hot water, I told him to go ahead. He went back out to his truck and returned in a couple minutes with an adjustable wrench, a screwdriver, and a two-inch piece of sandpaper. He then laid down on the concrete utility room floor, took off a cover, removed the flame sensor and burner, and scraped the flame sensor with the sandpaper. Once that was done he replaced it, turned on the power, and it worked. I noticed that the entire procedure took SEVEN MINUTES. When asked about the part, he said that I would have to get the part under warranty and then call them back for another service call to install it. If they got the part, it would take days and they would have to charge me about $200 for it and I would then have to negotiate with the manufacturer for a refund. I said I'd get the part and then he went out and took almost 25 minutes to do the bill on his little hand-held phone/PDA. Total cost was $250 exactly. I contacted the manufacturer in Tennessee and found out that Furr had never registered the warranty like they said they would do in 2007. In talking with them I also found out that the HSI is the most common replacement part for gas water heaters (and supposedly Furr's most frequently installed model) and costs $140. The manufacturer is still living in 1990 because I could only fax my documentation to them (when their fax machine was seemingly always not working or out of paper). I also found out that they have a depot in Alexandria that stocked the part! But, for the $10 shipping fee I said to just send it to me. Pros: - Came out the same day. - Fixed the water heater enough to get hot water (and still working fine) Cons - $97 fee for driving out and a three-minute diagnosis that's like saying you'll get wet if you go outside in the rain - $150 for a seven-minute repair - Not stocking common parts for the most popular gas water heater they sell and not honoring the manufacturer's warranty even though they are an authorized reseller - Another $150 to install the new one when it arrives (which should take less than seven minutes as no sandpapering is involved) Furr does fine on new equipment install -- also did my heating unit a couple years ago and just did my daughter's A/C and heating unit this past summer. Competitive prices and good install. But they've now gone to the airline mentality on service calls with a and quot;teaserand quot; price up front and then adding on charges as they go along. And, then after doing some web searches I found out that sandpapering that flame sensor is a standard maintenance procedure and there probably isn't any reason it won't last another five years before needing it again. I also found a YouTube video that shows homeowners exactly how to do this, so I'll be installing the new one myself.

Very smoothly from estimate through installation and after installation except that after the office people did not call back or provide the proof of registration I requested. Still waiting but this will not deter me from recommending this company.
Description of Work: Excellent service person provided estimate and complete detailed costs and itemized costs and components. Office personnel excellent before and during installation but not so fast after installation. Installers were particularly excellent, efficient, and did quality work--could answer questions well. Price is good and pricers did give available discounts but do think between manufacturer and seller perhaps a bit less would be appropriate for this type of product. All in all, I am very happy with the service at all levels and happy with Furrs as a company. I will use them again and soon for plumbing. I do recommend them especially for specific purchases.

I contacted FH Furr to schedule the inspection; the representative offered several dates and I selected one two weeks in the future. The representative indicated that I would need to be available for the entire day, but that I could call the county on the day of the inspection to learn of the approximate time of the inspection. I scheduled a full day off from work in order to be present. On inspection day, I contacted the county to confirm the time of the inspection. The county representative indicated that no inspection was scheduled! I contacted FH Furr, who confirmed that they had not contacted the county to schedule the inspection. They apologized and indicated they would contact the county in an attempt to schedule the inspection that same day. I offer this as one data related to my overall experience with this firm. The work was done quickly and professionally - price was a bit higher than I expected; but not off the charts. But follow up after the service - specifically back office support to schedule county inspection, was lacking.
Description of Work: Install of a new hot water heater required a County Inspection to be scheduled - Furr indicated (by letter) they would do this.

Our water heater started leaking on a Saturday night. Sunday I called FH Furr to have someone come give us an estimate. They were responsive and the technician showed up within 3 hours. That's where the good news ends. He surveyed the situation. We had more than just a water heater that needed to be replaced. We had some minor pipe work necessary to get us up to county code and needed our softener moved out of the way. He started by trying to sell a monthly maintenance plan. Then gave total: $3,500. Um, no thanks. We had a private, family-owned business come out monday morning -- they installed the same water heater and completed every line item on our FH quote and MORE for HALF the price. Moral of the story: get more than one estimate and, don't bother calling this company.

The day of the scheduled service, which we believed to be at 4pm, we received a phone call at noon stating that the the technician would be on the way to our house shortly. We said that it wasn't the scheduled time and that we would not be home until 4 and that we were at work which was an hour away. The representative than said that the technician was about 30 minutes away, so we should get there at the same time. We reminded them that our appointment wasn't scheduled until after 4 p.m. at which time the customer service representative became very RUDE and stated that they don't schedule appointments for specific times. She said that they just take a certain number of appointments for each day and they work through their list. It could end up being at any point during the day when they get to your name on the list. We again indicated that when the appointment was scheduled that we were not informed this information and that we were given a time of 4 pm. The representative became increasingly rude at this point and said that the person scheduling should have told you that, do you want the technician to come or not. Needless to say, we did NOT have them come service our systems. I will never use or recommend this company to anyone. Their poor customer service prior to even experiencing their services has turned our business elsewhere.
Description of Work: We contacted this company to have my home HVAC system serviced. We specifically requested an appointment for 4 p.m or later. as that is what time we get home from work. When the initial appointment was made, the customer service representative NEVER said that they did not set appointment times and may not service systems after 4. The first available appointment was 3 weeks from the time that we called.

They did the work at the time requested, and it took one day to do the work as promised. They did show me how to use the new the thermostat. On the negative side, when working in our attic doing the upstairs unit, someone left a good size crack in our ceiling without telling us. Someone either dropped something or stepped on it. After we discovered the crack we reported the problem to our salesperson. To the company's credit, they did pay to have a contractor repair and repaint the ceiling, but only because we noticed the problem ourselves and took the initiative to report it to them. Two other minor faults, afterwards I did notice outside my property small amounts of boxing material that wasn't thrown away, and, I noticed they left cigarette butts in my driveway after they left. Overall, the installed unit works great with not problems. If I would have had more time to shop, I might have been able to find a lower price quote.
Description of Work: FH Furr replaced my dual AC/Heating units. One day job, brand name that they recommended that I go with is Rheem. Not extremely efficient, but reliable was my criteria for unit selection since I plan to move out in 3 years. My AC unit was dead so I did not have the luxury of doing a lot of shopping. I did have 2 other high rated vendors visit, but in the end they both declined to give me a quote for the work due to my schedule to get the work done (It's hot in july :)).

My son bought a house and moved in on a Saturday. The house was a and quot;turn-aroundand quot; and had been unoccupied. When we joined my son on Sunday morning, he had run a load of wash, and sewage backed up, filling the tub and commode. We are long-time F.H. Furr customers, so we called them. They have service throughout the Northern Virginia area, and were able to provide service to Winchester. It was expensive-- but it was an emergency on a Sunday, and this is a company we know and trust. The technician arrived, surveyed the situation, and proceeded to investigate. He gave a couple of options for clearing the line, and provided guidelines on follow-up handling of the area. He used a camera to show my son the sewage line. Apparently some material in the line served as a spot for paper and such to collect and block outflow. After several hours (in very hot weather) he and quot;blew the lineand quot; and the problem was fixed. About an hour later, as I was filling the tub to sanitize it, we noticed that the tub overflow wasn't working, and saw water dripping in the crawlspace. We called the technician who was able to immediately identify the problems over the phone, rather than having to make another (expensive) visit. Paper had backed up into the overflow, so he talked me through removing the cover and cleaning it out, and figured out that the dripping into the crawlspace was not a leak, but water dripping between the tub and the overflow tubing. He suggested using caulk in that area, and tightly securing the cover to the overflow. The problem was solved in a few minutes with a $3 tube of silicone caulk. Our Sunday started out disgusting, unpleasant, disheartening, and annoying. F.H. Furr's professional technician saved the day. He was fothcoming with information, gave options and cost-outs, cleaned up after his work.

I had no problem with the actual installation rather this is a review of there billing department and how they will try everything in there power to get away with any discounts promised. When we first got a estimate it was told to us that the price $49 would be deducted from the total cost of installation. Also upon completion of the job we presented a coupon for $35 off a water heater which was given to the installer upon signing the invoice. Well when I noticed my credit card was charged above the amount that was invoiced ($84 above) I contacted there billing department and this is where all the problems start. I was very rudly told that the price charged was correct and that if I had any other issues I should speak with the billing manager to which I asked to but instead was told that they would call me back. No call was every recieved. After trying 7 yes 7 times to resolve the issue with my credit charge I had to file a chargeback with the credit card company. Only by having to submit the invoice to the credit card chargeback department was I able to have the eronious charges removed from my credit statement but it took almost 90 days because F.H Furr fought me every way to keep my money even after presenting a actual invoice. So after spending almost $3100 in services they didnt even want to grant me the money I was due off the service and fought me and the credit card company to keep that money. If you do get work done make sure you keep invoices and have them note on the invoice every discount presented and prepare for a fight when they refuse to honor any promised discounts.
Description of Work: We had them repair a leaking pipe we had and also replace a water heater.

The technician made it out same day and was both professional and courteous. He confirmed the suspected issue (refrigerant leak), identified where the leak was coming from and made the repairs. He thoroughly explained the issue and offerred appropriate services for future preventative maintenance (but did not force them on us). The price was a bit high, but the service and piece of mind that came from working with a professional made up for it!
Description of Work: We called FH Furr to come out to trouble shoot the A/C unit for the upstairs floors of our house - it was icing up and blowing warm air.
