F.H. Furr Plumbing Heating AC & Electrical

Three days ago the outside unit was making a loud noise. I called FH Furr and they sent someone out on the day they promised. The Technician quickly found the problem was a bad contactor. The Technician had the bad part in his truck and replaced it within a few minutes. The Trane unit came with a warranty for 10 years on parts and 1 year on labor so the repair cost for today was $0. It was nice to find a company that stands behind their work and shows up when they say they will.

The guy that came said that there wasn't any big problem like what we thought was the problem. He cleared the drain and he told us what to do in the future, which didn't cost us anything extra. He told us we could pour boiling water in the drain if we have trouble with it, it has been couple of years now and we have had no trouble with that drain since. The price was fair considering that there is a lot of competition in plumbing. He came in, he identified the problem, he took care of it, he talked to us about it and he gave us recommendations on what we could do in the future, so it wasn't like we had to call him back the next year because it is something that we could take care of ourselves and I appreciated that.

From 2007-2012, I paid F. H. Furr Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning a total of $11,731 for HVAC equipment and installation, including a new gas furnace, Trane A/C compressor, an auxiliary LG wall-mounted duct-free heat pump in my loft, and a new sewage discharge pump and alve in my basement. On December 31, 2012, at my request, a repairman from F.H. Furr came to inspect the LG heat pump, which had stopped heating. They warned me that the house call would be $115. The workman inspected, diagnosed, and told me the repair would be $660(!) and none of the cost of the house call would be applied toward the repair. His explanation of the high repair cost was vague, so I decided to get comparative estimates. Also, in this market, often at least a portion of the cost of the visit is applied toward repairs, especially for regular customers. I was surprised there was no consideration given to or recognition of my longtime customer relationship with F.H. Furr. Since the repairman was already in my house for the heat pump diagnosis, I decided to ask him to check the furnace and A/C, which Furr had installed. He spent a total of 10 minutes, told me all was ok and that it would be another $115 for the separate house call! I protested that this amounted to “gouging”—and that he was already standing inside my house, so how could F.H. Furr possibly charge me for a a second house call? Of course I expected to pay for his extra time, but certainly not for a separate house call. He then called his office and said he was told that a slight discount on the “second call” was the best they could do, with no manager on duty (since it was a holiday). No one was authorized to do anything more, no matter what. He advised the office of my longstanding customer relationship with F.H. Furr, and the amount of $$$$$ I had spent with them over five years, and he said they told him it didn't matter. He insisted I pay him $204 immediately ($115 for the first call and $89 for the and quot;second calland quot;), which in retrospect i should have not done, but I was certain it would be worked out. I told him again that I was a very unhappy customer, especially in light of my longstanding relationship with F.H.Furr and the amount of $$$$$ I had spent with them over the years. I asked him to have the manager call me and he said he would have him call as soon as he returned from the holidays on January 4, 2013. As of today, June 1, 2013, needless to say, I am still waiting for a call from the manager – or anyone -- at F.H. Furr. THE BOTTOM LINE: F. H. Furr was willing to sacrifice a very good $12,000 past customer -- not to mention potential for the future -- for the $204 pound of flesh they extracted from me on December 31, 2012.

It was an excellent experience. They showed up on time and did the work within the scheduled time. I would highly recommend them to others. I have used them multiple times.

Wife called them as we had a toilet that would not flush correctly even after snaking. I did not have time to look at it. They did give a quote upfront, showed up on time and did a good job for what they did. My issue was only with the cost. I understood a high quote as they might find a troublesome clog, but they would not lower the price when the found no clog and said we had a bad toilet. Cost was $950 for about an hours worth of work and $20 in parts. I did call to speak with a manager and got the price lowered a little, but still feel like they charged us over twice what they should have for the work performed. They also wanted $1000 to install a new toilet , but my wife told them no... Ended up doing that myself in 90 min for $220 (cost of a new toilet) My said she would give the plumber a B for Professionalism, but I would give the manager a C. (Thus the rating) BTW.... this was the experience that drove me to sign up for Angie's list, so hopefully something good will come of it.

Provider called prier to arrival and was on time. The work was explained and completed within 3 hours.

They came out today, and are sending someone else. They were very curtious.

The instillation was completed in about five hours. They even replaced the thermostat. I will definitely use their service again.

Tech was nice and knowledgeable. He wore booties to keep from tracking in dirt on my carpets. I'm not sure if replacing the valve was the only option for repair, but since it was leaking I needed a fast fix with no time to research. I was quoted some other jobs, but since the price with this company is pretty steep, even on the maintance contract, I declined the other and quot;projectsand quot;. I like the professionalism, but they do charge a bit higher than other companies.

Techs wore booties to keep from tracking in dirt. They did an annual maintance of tehe AC system. Gave me a list of recommendations with lots of dollars attached. I kind of felt like he was just trying to sell stuff and not really advise of potential issues. He said I didn't need any of it becasue everything was working. Sounded more of a way to get money out of me. They did what was expected, nothing fancy. They said they were going out to write up the paperwork. It took a long time for them to do that, over 30 minutes. The one time I went out to see what was taking so long, the one guy was having a cigarette break. I didn't appreciate that. I would rather he get done with what he is there for then drive away and have his break. It just makes that nasty smell get in my house since the windows are open. This was my first time using them, and was a little disappointed in the professionalism and efficiency of wrapping it up. Maybe that's normal these days. I don't know.

They did a good job and came out on a weekend service call the day I called them. They just came out to look at our problem but had everything they needed on their truck since the water heater needed to be replaced. They also said they could replace my sump pump. The thing that is impressive about them is that they had everything on the truck that day. They installed it all very quickly and their service was very good. It seemed like the sump pump was a little pricey, but it was not hugely expensive.

For those that do not wish to read the entire review: We are *very* satisfied with this company. Value: check. Professionalism: check. Quality: ca-check! Save yourself some time and frustration - go with F. H. Furr for your replacement air conditioner/furnace. We have dealt with our share of shady contractors and disappointing results/ripoffs since purchasing our home in Ashburn, VA, which was built in 1997. So we did our research and ultimately decided to be and quot;safeand quot; by going with Home Depot for our A/C and furnace needs. Our 5500 sq. foot home had two builder-grade A/C and furnace units - one for upstairs and one for the main level and the basement. The upstairs unit was no longer working, and the downstairs unit was functional but not keeping the house cool in the summer months. We went to Home Depot and scheduled an estimate for a new A/C and furnace for the upstairs unit. In retrospect, we would have called F.H. Furr directly. Not sure if we would have saved any money by doing this, but it was reassuring to know that they are an approved/vetted Home Depot subcontractor. F.H. Furr called us that same day to schedule an appointment. We scheduled an appointment, and Jack came over a few days later at a time that was convenient for us (we received a friendly reminder call prior to the appt.). Jack showed up on time and was a no-nonsense, no pressure kindof guy. He did a thorough inspection of our current configuration, including going up into the attic to inspect the furnace. Then he told us about what we needed. And extras that we didn't need. We ended up signing a contract for a new Trane A/C and furnace, along with a solar attic fan. F.H. Furr called us the next day to schedule the install. Five installers showed up on the scheduled date, on time (one for the attic fan, and four for the A/C-furnace). They were courteous, professional, and efficient. All of the installers spoke English and were happy to address questions/concerns throughout the installation process. For example, we wanted a plastic drain pan, and not a metal one that could rust out, and they actually went out and got one that same day, reconfigured the gas line and the drainage to accommodate it, and still finished on time. When they were finished with the installation, Steve and his team conducted a thorough walk-through with us to review the work that was done to ensure that any remaining concerns that we had were addressed. We had to have a county inspector come out a few days later to sign off on the work, who said that and quot;this is the best installation I have ever seenand quot; (!!!) The county inspector even pointed out some of the and quot;above and beyondand quot; aspects of the work that was done. Wow!!! We were so pleased with the work that was done, we brought F.H. Furr back to replace the A/C and furnace for the main floor. Same story for the second (larger units) installation. On time. Professional. Quality installation. Please note that the total price paid reflects both A/C and furnace units, for a rather large house. We firmly believe we paid a fair price for a great job. F.H. Furr is setting a standard that others should follow if they wish to be competitive in this market. Thanks, F.H. Furr! We recommend your company enthusiastically and without reservation.

Everything worked fine and was to our full satisfaction.

When they called me they wanted $575 for an estimate on a new AC. Now the $575 was going to be given back to me a s a credit if I used them, but what a racket. I said no thanks and I've called 6 other companies and nobody charges a fee like this company.

F H Furr did an excellent job. We moved into our house at the end of June and decided to get the ducts cleaned throughout; it is has 2 HVAC systems and a finished basement. My son has allergies and we wanted to ensure the house was as clean as possible. The 2 gentlemen arrived on time and worked hard all day. They were polite and courteous and happy to answer any questions. At the end of the day, they showed us how much dirt etc had been collected... it was frightening! The house is 17 years old and it appears that the ducts have never been cleaned. There was building rubble, paper plates and general debris. We were very happy with the results. I realise that FH Furr were a little on the pricey side... but we definitely got what we paid for.

The whole process, from the initial quote to the complete installation walk through, lasted about 10 days. The sales person was very professional, but what impressed me the most was the installation team. I was a bit worried after reading a few bad reviews on A/L, but the two technicians I had over definitely know their stuff - you can easily tell the quality of their work by the finishing touches. I know it's a medium size company and probably not all installation teams have the same experience, but if you are lucky enough to get Jerry and Andy you can count this as your lucky day. Two teams of installers arrived in the morning and by 5pm the same day both old systems had been broken down and the two new systems had been installed. I was present for all of this and they expertly, and patiently answered all of my questions and instructed me on the operation of new digital thermostats. It is obvious to me that these servicemen are very well informed and it is evident that management has a rigorous on-going program to keep their people fully informed. I have signed up with them for annual service contracts on the new heat pump units and have subsequently used them for plumbing services which have been equally well performed. I highly recommend this company to anyone who is seeking excellent service, fair pricing and prompt response.

We have had an annual service contract with FH Furr for several years that they call the and quot;Preferred FH Furr Service Cluband quot; Preferred service is supposed to include heat, air and plumbing inspections annually and preferred scheduling when a problem arises. This Winter, I tried to schedule my heating inspection and could not get FH Furr to come out at a time that worked with my schedule. This last week, I started to have trouble with my furnace. When I called to schedule service for the next day - initially, FH Furr told me that I would have to wait until a day later. I reminded the representative that I was on the preferred service plan. At first, the representative said that that did not matter because they were fully booked - after further discussion, she was able to get me an appointment for the next day but told me that it was going to cost $97 for the visit. I told the representative that I had tried to have a Winter inspection but had not been able to get one. I was told that while the Winter inspection is included as part of my service plan, since there was now a problem. I was going to be charged $97 for the service visit. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that one would call me. The supervisor did not return my call until 4 days later - by then, I had cancelled my preferred service plan. The technician that they sent out to look at the furnace was great. But - we decided that it made more sense to replace the furnace than pay for the repair. FH Furr sent someone the next day to give us an estimate on replacing the furnace. Even with my preferred service club discount, the estimate was $600 more than the other estimate that we got.

This was a positive experience, from start to completion. We plan to have FH Furr service the units since they specialize in Lennox equipment. Iwe have had Lennox equipment in another home and find the equi pment very reliable. They also have an arrangement with Costco and this was a factor in selecting them as the firm to install new HVAC units for our home.

It went very smoothly. The person was very professional and prompt.

Arranging the appointment time was problematic, finally my wife had to take the day off for this. The plumber was fine but the price, even with a 15 percent discount since we have a service contract with them, was outrageous. Rather than canel and find someone else and lose another day of work, she went with it. When she called the office the following day to complain about the price, she was told someone would get back to her. No one did. Five days later, I went onto their website and chatted with the online person who forwarded my complaint. The manager called the next day. After explaining that I thought his price was outrageous, he asked why I thought so. I told him I had searched the web for average pricing for this work and it ranged from $60 to $200. He got defensive and wanted to know what sites I had looked at. I countered that I wanted to know what the h*** the justification was for the price. This got me a 60 second lecture on being polite over the phone and to stop cussing at him, which I did not. It was obvious he just wanted the conversation to end so that he wouldn't need to offer a resolution. I told him to cancel the contract, he said and quot;doneand quot; and hung up. That's customer service for you.

Heat Pump died and they came out next day confirmed problem. Called Friday with estimate and we accepted. workers were really good. Did not leave until all done and we had heat.

On Saturday (1/5/13) I went on-line to search for a company to repair my water heater, which had stopped working the day before. At F.H. Furr I joined a chat and explained my problem. I said it wasn't urgent and I could wait until Monday or Tuesday for an appointment. The woman reponded that she would have someone contact me. Within an hour I received a phone call from F.H. Furr and was told they could have a technician here on Sunday (1/6/13) for no extra charge; and I was given the first appointment of the day. The service techician (Steve) arrived promptly. He was courteous, knowledgeable and efficient. He fixed the water heater within a couple of hours and was on his way (it probably would have taken even less time but I had a lot of questions.) . Before he left he told me to wait one hour and then fill the tub with all hot water to make sure there was a sufficient amount and to call back if there wasn't. Well, I'm delighted to say that I not only have a water heater that works, I now have enough hot water to take a hot bath!!! (Ever since this water heater was installed - seven years ago by a different company which I don't plan do business with again - I have only been able to take showers because the hot water was insufficient to take a bath.)

Bathtub hardware failed several times (kept leaking after water turned off). Different techs came out and cartridge was replaced three times - still leaked. Finally, in November I asked that a master technician come out to re-do the work. He replaced cartridge again and rebuilt the three-into-one faucet housing (copper pipes in wall). Unit still has occasional drip from shower head (they said this shouldn't happen). Technicians seemed competent and were polite, but for what I spent, I expected excellent work, not what I got. Faucet head in tub is on crooked and looks amateurish. Probably won't use them again. Hope everything stays in working condition as the one year warranty expires in two months.

FH Furr replaced my furnace and air conditioning units, and they are going to re-do the venilation later this week. While I was initially concerned because they were so late for my first appointment, they have been very professional an thorough throughout the process. The new units are fantastic- and my basement no longer stinks like gas- and they made sure I had the best equipment for my budget and house size, and explained operation/maintenance and warranty well. The company that flipped the house I bought decided that it would be OK to seal up the walls without properly connecting the ventilation so that I get no air upstairs (Classic Cottages, by the way), and now the FH Furr guys are fixing it (hopefully!). I have high expectations given my experience with the new furnace- overall I would recommend these guys for new HVAC systems. They aren't afraid to charge, but it's worth it for the quality of work.
