F.H. Furr Plumbing Heating AC & Electrical

They're a bit pricey, but they do a decent job. I find that their performance depends on the technician that you get sometimes as to whether they're trying to sell you more stuff or repairs, and whether they're telling you what's realistic for the present state of your system. I keep calling them just because they're responsive.

Outstanding service and very prompt.

I called on a Thursday evening because our compressor breaker had melted down, and chose this provider because of their late hours with no extra fee. I was on hold for a half hour, hearing about their 97-minute response for an extra fee over-and-over again. Finally someone answered and curtly took my name and number saying a technician would call me back. 48 hours later and no one has called, nada, zip. We've had another provider, whom I called the next day, come and do the work by now. I guess they don't need any more business. Certainly not mine.

Two men came on the scheduled day in the morning and were here for 4 hours. They hooked up a large vacuum to the air handler in the garage and cleaned each vent with brushes/air hose and small vacuum. The vents were filthy when they started, particularly the ones on the first floor that run under the house. When completed we checked each vent and they were cleaned down to bare metal - looked like new. Both men were courteous, wore booties and worked very hard. They cleaned up after themselves everywhere they went. It may seem expensive, but I had another quote higher - and had heard of some duct cleaners just using a shop vac to do the job. We are very pleased with the results.

They were nice, but we just decided to go with another company that we had worked with. They were great, they did great follow up with a phone call and email. They quote was good, it was easy to understand and it was competitive and because there wasn't much difference, we went with the other company. The were very responsive, they called me the same day I made the inquiry and came out the next day.

We were very happy with them. They are reliable.

Their personnel are very courteous. They paid close attention to the homeowners in able to take care of where they've been. They never tracked mud. They're very considerate. They've always been very pleasant. My biggest issue has been the overall cost and the fact that on several different occasions, the cost had been completely disproportionate to the service that was being rendered.

For my husband, he thought it was something very difficult and he was kind of amazed at how well he did it at the time that he did it in. The pipe was kind of around and my husband didn't know if the guy was gonna actually be able to do it without tearing some wall structure down and he was able to just replace it. He was able to do it with minimal inconvenience of our house.

Home Depot recommended them and they quoted me $6000. The guy who I spoke with from F H Furr was very friendly, he didn't try to push me and he gave me various options. I actually really thought that they were a good company and they obviously have a contract with Home Depot for their installs. I was very happy with the sales person that came out, he seemed like he was knowledgeable and he seemed like he had done installations in the past. However, he said he wouldn't be doing the installation for my system, which is one of the things I didn't like about them. I don't like that they sell you a $6000 system and then make you switch guys from the people that actually sell you the system to the guys that install your system that doesn't speak English. I didn't end up buying anything from F H Furr. They came on time. They were responsive but almost in a bad sense, because they kept calling me every day asking me when they should come in. After I got the quote, they followed up pretty much every week and asked me if I wanted the installation but not in a terrible way. They called me every week for about four weeks and checked with me and then they dropped off. They were very professional.

A serious lack of professionalism and concern among F H Furr employees, who are unskilled at resolving issues and concerns. I would not recommend this company to anyone. At approximately 12:30 today, I noticed an F H Furr technician unscrewing something from my AC unit. Because I didn't request service, I immediately went outside and told the technician that he was working on my unit. He said he was looking for my neighbor's AC unit and couldn't find it. Concerned that the technician could have possibly damaged my unit, I immediately called F H Furr and asked to speak to the office manager. The customer service representative said that a manager was not available but would call me back. A short time later, Frieda, the customer service manager, called me. Because Frieda does not work in the service and installation area, I told her twice that I wanted to speak to another manager. She refused my requests. I could tell that she wasn't taking my concerns seriously, and her tone was very patronizing. I told her about my experience with the technician and gave her the license plate number of the F H Furr truck that was parked in front of my home. She said she would call the technician and speak to him about this issue but didn't offer to call me back to tell me it was resolved. A short time later, I called F H Furr again and told the representative that I had spoken with Frieda but wanted to speak to another manager. Ignoring my request, the representative put me through to Frieda. When I told Frieda I didn't want to speak to her, she said, and quot;What is your problem?and quot; I told her I didn't have a problem and that she was being very unprofessional. Again I told her I wanted to speak to another manager, and she hung up on me. A short time later, Mike, a manager, called me. I told him I was upset and explained what happened with the technician. He said the technician had been testing the voltage on my AC unit to determine if the AC belonged to my neighbor. He appeared unconcerned, saying, and quot;I'm sorry, but that's the way it goes.and quot; Instead of addressing my concerns and trying to defuse the situation, Mike began to argue with me when I told him I wished someone had told me sooner why the technician was working on my AC unit. I then started to tell Mike about my experience with Frieda, and he hung up on me. Immediately I called F H Furr and told the representative I wanted to make a complaint with a higher-level manager. The representative took my name and said someone would call me back, but no one called back.

They were fine. They were thorough. They seemed to come in about the same rate as the other companies.

I called FH Furr when my air conditioning broke on a very hot day. I have an 84 year old mother living with me and she is not easily moved to a hotel. When I explained this to FH Furr, they sent someone to repair the unit as quickly as possible. While the service technician was able to make a temporary repair, the A/C unit had a leak that would require more investigation and the cost was high enough that I elected to replace the unit instead of repairing it. An FH Furr representative met with me to discuss options for replacing my broken air conditioner. I have lived in my house almost 18 years and replaced the original air conditioning unit and gas furnace 17 years ago. Given the age of the unit and the cost of repairing the air conditioner, I decided to replace both the air conditioner and gas furnace. My house was built in 1947 and many of the modern units require knocking through the wall of the house to install a new insulated flue. The representative explained the options that would work for my house without the need for making holes in the wall. The representative talked to me about efficiency ratings and tax credits for each of the models we discussed and I felt that I had enough information to make an informed decision. The FH Furr technicians did an outstanding job putting in the new A/C and furnace. They arrived around 8:00 am and were finished before 4:00 pm. They kept me informed about the status throughout the day. They explained the functions on my new thermostat and made sure I understood them. They also walked me through the parts of the new furnace so I understood how to change the filter and clean the humidifier pump. Since my old unit had a humidifier, they did not charge me for a new one, but simply re-installed the existing one. They also credited the cost of the temporary A/C fix to my final bill. I am very pleased with my new A/C unit and my monthly electric bill is lower, just as they told me it would be!

I was pleased with the quality, workmanship, and professionalism. I don't recall the price.

I was trying to get an idea of what was going on with it. They've done work for me before and I didn't have any issues with him. He gave me some pretty good recommendations.

They were easy to deal with. They were very professional. They helped me with stuff. I thought the prices were high but the reason why we went with them is we have used them for other stuff and they are very good about cleaning up after themselves and they never come back the second time to fix the same thing.

Overall, we don't like them although there is one particular guy that comes out to do some repairs for us that we like a lot but with the company itself we are not pleased. On prior plans I had another provider and I never had to call them to schedule to come out and do the service that I paid for and so far they haven't contacted me and if I continue to wait the summer will be over. That is just a minor problem. We had issues with them from day 1 in terms of installation of equipments. We had two major systems put in to place as we have dual zone so we went with high end gas heat pump for downstairs, upstairs and attic. While installing it they didn't realize they have to put a different pan in and we had a leak in the ceiling and they had difficulty fixing that. We had other issues along the way. The problem is that I get fairly relatively new and more sophisticated system that most of the service folks that were sent out were not properly trained or competent to perform the work that needed to be done. After a lot of problems along the way they sent the head service guy who was extremely competent and if not for him I would have blown my stack. He was really nice and competent so we are continuing with them for the time being. I am probably going to terminate various service contracts with them. There was miss representation and sold us a air cleaning system which they indicated that if we sign up for the service plan there is nothing that we had to do. They would come on a monthly basis and change the filters and that was not accurate at all. In fact we do have to take care of it and that's what I did. That was not the way it was sold to us. If we would have received accurate information then we would not have purchased it. I would tell other Angie's list members to basically do their diligence and to make sure that anything is stated in fact is in writing and they follow up to make sure they are getting what they are paying for. It would have been a lot cheaper if we would have gone with some other company. If we were on their service plan they would be out on the same day. We had an issue with our system and it was getting warm and they said you need to do this and since it happened upstairs you can sleep downstairs as they have to cater to other customers that don't have it at all so they have to take care of them first. My response to that is, and lsquo;it is not my problem and if you make a promise you need to fulfill it and if you can't fulfill it then don't make it.' We were misled in terms of buying certain equipments and what it would have involved in terms of having to deal with it.

It actually went quite well. They did pretty much everything they said they were going to do and I thought they did a really good job. Of course I haven't needed to use the generator yet, but we know that it works.

I had purchased a brand new Magic Chef HVAC unit for my condo a few years ago through a Home Depot partnership with FH Furr. 3 year later this unit malfunctioned and I was left in the heat with no AC. I called FH Furr and was led on a wild goose chase calling different parts/service warranty providers as well as Home Depot. No one wanted to take responsibility and pay for the cost of the diagnosis, repair, replacement, and service of the faulty unit. Considering this is only 3 years old and I just paid $5,500.00 for something that broke you can imagine my frustration. FH Furr billed me $200 for the diagnosis, service call, and parts acquisition fee. After several days and battles between several companies involved I spoke with the Home Depot HVAC escalations team. After speaking with them then with FH Furr again they decided to honor the warranty. So long story short the unit was under parts, labor, compressor warranty and FH Furr did not want to honor it initially but in the end they did. I would have given them an excellent rating but I downgraded to good for the troubles.

My old furnace died during a cold snap (the high temperature that week was under 20 degrees). FH Furr came out the day after I called. The technician advised that the main motor was dead. He offered to fix it, but advised that there were several other components in bad shape. I decided to buy a new unit. The salesperson came out a few hours later, measured, and quoted a price (the price I listed may not be 100% correct, I'm quoting it from memory). He pulled some strings so it would be installed the next day (instead of two days later), which I appreciated since I was freezing. The installers (Danny M. and Kamal B.) arrived promptly and got to work. They were clean and polite. I had been told by the salesperson that the install should take 4 - 5 hours. I knew that was not reasonable. It actually took almost 8 hours. I must mention that I am in a fourth floor condo, so the guys had to keep walking up and down 40 stairs. They did so without complaining to me. The installers did come in from time to time to try and warm up (it was 15 degrees outside). There were multiple issues with my return, as it was an odd size. Danny worked for a couple of hours to get a temporary setup done (the new one had to be ordered). He also sealed up numerous holes left behind by installers from another company many years ago. After installing the unit, we tested it (and the air conditioner) to ensure everything was okay. They cleaned up after themselves well. I'm happy with the new unit, which is a Lennox (the old one was a Trane and changing the filters was ridiculously hard). The new filter is inside the house, accessible through the return, which is a much more convenient setup. The follow-up installer, who installed the new return, was not very pleasant, but he got the job done. Unfortunately, I don't have his name. All in all, it was a good experience.

My experience with them was good. They worked quickly and fixed it.

The heating/cooling technicians always do a great job when they come out. The work they do is reasonably priced as well. FH Furr's plumbing work is very high though. We usually have another company do the plumbing in my house.

They were very really fast. It was right after the windstorm that had happened, so we were in the middle of the rush but we were happy that they came as quickly as they did. So if you want something done quickly, they are definitely the place to go. They were really professional with what they did. I would advise others not to use them as ones first choice because I still think that there are other small companies in the area that are just as cheap and are probably more personable but I did not have the chance to explore the options fully. The quality of the work was excellent but I don't know if the quality of the product is excellent so it's not them, it is the product.

We have an older home and we knew that the originally installed HVAC system was due to be replaced. However, we didn't expect that the system would simply fail on Saturday afternoon. However, it did... Our HVAC system failed the Saturday afternoon prior to our leaving for vacation. We were between a rock and a hard spot... We couldn't leave the house without a way to be cooled and dehumidified while we were gone, but we were scheduled to be on an airplane come Thursday morning. We contacted several HVAC companies and explained that we needed to have the HVAC system replaced, but we needed the work accomplished in the next day or so. FH Furr, stepped up to the plate and guaranteed that the work would be done, on time and within budget. They accomplished the task! The staff on-site were very professional, did a wonderful job, cleaned up after themselves and left us with a finished product in working order. I would recommend FH Furr without reservation.

Purposely scheduled a non-emergency appointment. It wasn't until the technician arrived that I could be given a quote for the services. I was stunned to learn that it cost over $800 for just the installation! But I was at a point that I needed it done and was going to be charged if I turned him away...not a good place to be. They do honor a military discount so I was given a 10% discount on the visit. Technician did all that was expected of him with regards to the installation and removal of old water heater. Upon removal of the old heater, I had to ask to mop up the spot where the old and leaking water heater had been. I wanted a dry surface for the new pan to be placed. I did that work myself. Installation, otherwise, went without a hitch. Technician did acceptable work and was polite and courteous. The shipping carton was left and I disposed of / recycled that myself. When removing the old heater some residual water leaked onto the carpet on its way out the door. Yes, I cleaned that up too. The technician was done in 2 hours. I asked the technician for clarification on the price - that I wasn't being charged for an emergency visit. He stated that it was a normal visit and that an emergency visit would have been an additional $150. I feel I paid DOUBLE for what the work was worth. Lesson learned is to ALWAYS get a free quote.

They did an outstanding job. They are very prompt and on time with appointments. Explains things very well. They also put on booties before entering my home.
