They usually call me because I have my system under warranty with them. They call me on a seasonal basis and just come out and check the unit and clean it. I pay $145.00 a year for them to come out and just check the unit. They do a pretty good job and I noticed that they've been servicing my unit yearly for a while now and and it seems like they hang on to their employees.
Description of Work: Furr Plumbing Heating usually come seasonally to check our air conditioning unit and heating unit. They also do plumbing.

AC failed around 8:30 PM on Wednesday, 21 August. Called the 24-hour number at 9:38 PM, and operator said she would contact the on-call technician. F. H. Furr called back at 7:39 AM on Thursday morning and left a message. At 8:10 my wife talked to and quot;Nicoand quot; and was asked to check it the outside unit had ice. My wife called back to report and quot;no iceand quot; in the outside unit. At 8:25, F. H. Furr notified my wife that a technician will be booked and they will call back between 5:00 and 8:00 PM for a Friday service call. F. H. Furr called on Thursday at 6:00 PM to advise that at technician will arrive between 2:00 and 6:00 PM on Friday. On Friday at 2:30 PM, they called and advised that the technician would arrive in the next 30 to 90-minutes. 40+ hours without AC in August is UNACCEPTABLE, in particular since we had the unit installed by F. H. Furr and maintained under a service agreement with F. H. Furr since at least 2003. The technician arrived at approximately 3:30 PM, and Andrew Johnson proceeded to test the system and isolate the fault in a totally professional manner. He also took the time to explain what he was doing and what the results were leading to finding of the faulty outdoor capacitor. He replaced the capacitor and tested the AC system to ensure it was operating within specifications. Mr. Johnson was outstanding!

The initial meeting with the FH Furr comfort consultant (salesman) went as expected and it was a pleasant enough experience. There was no pressure to purchase anything beyond what I wanted to have installed. All of the options were throughly explained to me to make an educated decision on my purchase. My concern was that the new HVAC furnace fan was over-sized for my HVAC return duct and I voiced this concern with the salesman the day after the sales meeting as well as a concern about weak airflow to one of my bedrooms. The FH Furr salesman suggested waiting until after the installation to see if either concern would be an issue. The paperwork and payment was easy enough and as expected. The increased warranty coverage provided by Costco is nice. The cost seemed like I was buying the most expensive unit, but it was not outside the price range I had researched. The installation team was excellent. They took care of everything, were very professional, and did not cut any corners. The new units were installed properly and thoroughly tested prior to leaving. My satisfaction of their work was taken into consideration. The team was obviously proud of their work and they should be. I am very satisfied with the installation work done by FH Furr. After installation, the return duct size did turn out to be an issue. When the HVAC fan engaged the second stage (100% fan speed), the return duct would suck in with a loud bang and the return grill whistled. Within minutes of the fan slowing or stopping the return grill would pop back out with a loud bang. A few calls to FH Furr and a service call to reinforce the return duct took care of the banging noise, free of charge. A few more calls/emails and another service trip from their field supervisor validated the the return duct size was too small. They stated HVAC is receiving only 890 CFM but need 1200 CFM during 100% fan operation. An offer to run a 10and quot; return through my garage back into my basement at cost was made, but I would still be responsible for paying a carpenter to finish the work, which was a fair offer. The airflow to the bedroom was improved by the variable speed blower as stated by the FH Furr salesman and no further action was needed on that concern. My only complaint is that my concerns should have been addressed prior to the installation or immediately after without me having to harass FH Furr on the issue. My concerns were made on May 7, 2012 and the installation was performed May 28, 2012. The FH Furr salesman was insistent on waiting to see if there would be an issue after the installation and I should have seen this as a red flag. The sizing of the HVAC and/or return duct could have been modified as part of the installation instead of me having to harass FH Furr to validate there was an issue after the installation. I fully expected that I would be required to pay for additional work and that it would not be part of the install costs. My concern is premature failure of the HVAC due to the restriction on the return airflow and FH Furr taking that concern seriously.
Description of Work: I had purchased a new Lennox air conditioner and furnace through Costco and it was sold/installed by FH Furr. The outside AC unit was moved and the inside AC and furnace were replaced.

The FH Furr plumber replaced the pressure valve that was leaking, which was the majority of the expense of the job. I was not really concerned about it and should have told him not to replace it due to the high mark-up. The root cause for my pilot light going out was determined to be an airflow issue with the flame arrestor. The plumber asked to borrow several types of brushes and my vacuum to try to clean the flame arrestor. He stated that it probably will not solve my problem, but offered to break the view glass to keep the pilot light from extinguishing. My problem with that answer is if my natural gas hot water heater were to be found as the source of a fire or explosion due to the by-passed flame arrestor, I am pretty sure my insurance company would not cover the damages. I probably should have called FH Furr back and spoke to a supervisor, but I did not. I previously had FH Furr install a new HVAC and had trouble getting them to address the issue. At this point I would rather use another business due to the difficulty in getting FH Furr interesting in solving my problem after receiving payment. The date and price are approximated as I could not locate the paperwork for the repair.

I bought this through Home Depot. FH Furr was their contractor. The salesman was very helpful and explained all the details. It was quickly scheduled. They were on time and completed the work in about 6-7 hours. They did all the work as promised by the salesman and explained how to operate and maintain the system. They cleaned everything up before. leaving. The system seems to be working fine. The also did a follow up call. I am quite satisfied with them.

I had a bad experience with them. Something malfunctioned and they came back. The part was under warranty but the labor wasn't and they charged me a very high amount. When I called the office, they acted that it was a mistake and it wasn't supposed to be that high. I gave them a check 2 times. They said that they would return one of our checks and then they cashed both of the checks and they finally sent me a refund for part of it but it was still high. I just don't trust them at all. They overcharge you and they will pretend it's a mistake. I wouldn't use them again.

Furr was one of several vendors used to provide quotes. Furr Representative was very professional, extremely knowledgable, provided valuable information. Price and equipment were both described in detail and the bottom line was great. Another vendor ranked higher on Angie's list matched equipment and price, included extended warranty on labor.

FH Furr gave us a comparable quote and options that other vendors didn't mention. I also felt like they really knew their business and could do the best job. They usually have two meetings - planning and quote. The work was completed on time, with minimal fuss and in a clean manner. I felt comfortable with the crew as well. We replaced 2 builder units with 1 unit for main level and basement. We called and said it wasn't balancing right and they came out and spent several hours working it out. We had to use the builder duct work/dampers since we didn't want to rip out walls. However, they were able to get the unit functioning well and gave us some directions for seasonal switching. Finally, they back up their promise. We got a rebate from Lenox on the system. Lenox kept saying the invoice didn't show something they needed (I thought it did) but after several months of back and forth with me - FH Furr apologized to us and sent us the $500 rebate personally. That is customer service. They may not be the cheapest, but they have fair prices, know their business, and can tell you when to cut cost and when to not cut cost.

This is the fourth annual check of the system since F H Furr installed the system. Each year the technician will ask who installed the system before they perform the basic check - does the system turn on, does the compressor turn on, is the evaporator tube clear, etc. Each year a different technician, and a different fault. This year the technician left the furnace cover safety switch engaged - he wire tied it in the on position to perform his tests, and forgot to remove the wire tie when he was finished. He did however drill a hole in the sheet metal duct and use the hole for his temperature probe instead of just puncturing the flexible connection in the duct as has been done in the past and leads to leaks. He sealed the hole when he finished. Other than the safety switch issue, the check was performed correctly and in an efficient manner.

We purchased two A/C and furnace combinations They were installed on 6/21/2013. We have had a number of problems: almost all of them were promptly addressed by FH Furr. First problem: the salesman told us that in order to pass inspection, we needed to have a louvered door on the room that held the equipment. He promised that if we purchased the door and had it ready, the installers would put it into place. Unfortunately the team who came were not aware of this agreement. We had asked that this be put in the contract and the salesman had assured us that it was on the work order. After several phone calls and two weeks, FH Furr made good on the salesman's promise. Second problem: shortly after the units were installed it was pretty clear that the house was not being cooled. It turned out that neither unit had been charged with sufficient coolant. A service call rectified the problem. Third problem: after a few weeks one of the units began making a loud noise. A technician came to the house and decided that the noise was the result of a dirty filter. We were charged for the service call. After we replaced the filter it turned out that the problem was caused by improperly sealed ductwork. A different service tech solved the problem and the money we had been charged for the first service call was refunded. That tech also discovered that the two thermostats which had been installed with the equipment were not working properly. He replaced them. Fourth problem: the salesman had promised that FH Furr would process the rebates from Pepco. We were told it would take about 4-6 weeks. After two months we are still waiting. An email requesting an update from the salesman has not been answered. We are happy with the equipment but we are disappointed that there have been so many problems. Except for the rebate problem they have ultimately addressed every problem to our satisfaction.

The salesman who provided the quote did not understand the minisplit system - he was unable to discuss with us in any detail how it would be set up. Additionally, we were requesting a quote for three EXTREMELY well insulated rooms. When we received the quote, it was far higher than we expected and without any details about what would be installed. We called to request information about what was included in the approximately $16,000 estimate. We were told over the phone this included six units for the approximately 1800 sf we were considering cooling, but were never provided adequate follow-up information in writing. Keep in mind we cool the entire upstairs of almost 3,000 sf with only five units the same size he was trying to sell us. The individual did not provide us information in writing on the sizing, quantity of indoor units, nor explain why he thought we would need a minisplit system in a nonexistent hallway when we only requested conditioning for three rooms. He actually sounded surprised we wanted that information in writing. We never heard back from them after that last estimate. While the salesman was cordial enough, my low rating for the professionalism reflects the lack of knowledge he exhibited as well as what appeared to be the lack of complete disclosure of what we would be purchasing in their proposed contract. It additionally reflects they did not followup after my last email a month ago explaining the detail I would like to see in the estimate. We contacted another HVAC company that was able to exhibit knowledge about minisplits and are having their system installed at the sizing we expected.

While at Costco, talked to the guys about the Lennox HVAC system. Mine system was 25 years old, original to the house, Certainly not efficient, and feared it might break at some inopportune time in middle of summer or winter. The rep came out, was on time. Started off polite, collecting information on the existing equipment. I told him I was getting 3 estimates and he was the first. At that point for the rest of the visit, he constantly bashed the competition. Always insisting their firm was the best and the equipment best. His estimate came in nearly $2000 over what we paid our selected firm, but purely based on his attitude and bashing other companies, he was off the list.

Maintenance service was performed, no better and no worse than other providers we have had over the years. My problem with this company was the responsiveness to our need to replace our A/C unit. When they responded to our call for repair service, they determined they could not fix the unit we had. The service man called a salesman for the company who gave us a price to replace without any evaluation of whether the unit being replaced was adequate or too large (properly sized), and then we were told it would be 1-1/2 weeks before they could get around to installing. This was during the hottest period of 2013. The provider I located on Angie's List had a man in my house early on the afternoon of the day I called for an evaluation, the owner gave me a price for the unit later that afternoon, and they installed the next morning.ng

Plumber came out, pulled on faucet until extension popped out, totally mangling the extension. and quot;Well, I guess you are going to need a new faucet,and quot; he said. After I initially said I would go to Home Depot and buy another one that afternoon the plumber convinced me to buy the faucet from him. This was the second experience I had with FH Furr. Even though they are clean and professional couldn't help but feel, I was told/sold things that I didn't need. Have used other plumbers since then.

I contacted FH Furr in April 2013 to get an estimate on replacing our Water Heater - Expansion tank. The consultant that came to our home (Mr Jack Posey) was punctual, professional and took the time to explain to me options, costs and answered all my questions. Upon installation, the tow away of the old system and installation of the new water heater were met with the same high standards of conduct. The two men that showed up for the job telephoned ahead of time to provide me with an arrival time, were courteous and ensured the area was clean of debris after completing the job. Most importantly, the water heater works wonderfully. Admittedly, I am not versed in appliance replacement and when the county inspector came out in early May he showed me how upon installation the drain tube was not extended from the water heater tank to the floor drain -- therefore it did not meet code. I contacted FH Furr and was redirected to the service center where I left voice mail messages with no call backs. Work, summer schedules and we were quickly into the month of August when I reengaged with FH Furr. This time around I received same day call backs and the necessary fix was made within the week. Again, the gentleman that came out to complete the job was punctual, professional and walked me through the work he completed. While we had a hiccup in service it was relatively minor (albeit I understand it would have been major if there had been a leak-but this was a new install); overall I would use FH Furr again due to the gained trust they provided to me as a customer as noted by their professionalism, clear explanation of services / cost and follow up when needed.

Fair price, on time, complete service, concerned about the cleanliness of my home, very communicative explaining what work was performed, treated me like family. I look forward to having them back for next year's contract.
Description of Work: Performed preventative maintenance on my two zone heating and cooling system (HVAC). A technician comes to my home twice a year, once to work on the heating system and once to maintain the cooling system. There is a gas furnace and air conditioner on the lower two levels and heat pump in upper level. Three years ago Furr replaced all of these systems for me at a fair price and quite professionally.
