We woke one morning to no hot water. We later inspected the water heater to realize it was leaking and called FH FURR. They posted a sticker on the side of the water heater that presented instructions to follow to shut off water, gas, and drain unit and call for service. We did and they were able to get someone out that night (Friday). Tech arrived - very friendly and professional - wore booties to protect floor. Inspected the unit, confirm leak, confirmed everything was shut down and hooked up hose to drain the unit. He indicated he did not have that large a tank (75 Gal) with him and he make an appointment to arrive first thing Saturday morning. He arrived when he said he was (before each arrival FH FURR called to confirm) - around 9:30am. He put down tarps to protect floors and proceeded to do the replacement work. On a side note -- the tech was a bit under the weather, but he remained professional and worked hard to do a quality job! He went out once to local hardware to get Mat Gas (for torch) -- quick trip. Project finished up around 2:30pm. He asked us to inspect all his work. Pointed out a slow leak on a meter (county responsible) and instructed us who to call to get it taken care of. We sat down to pay -- unfortunately the FH FURR network was down, but he quickly proceeded to process a manual invoice. While waiting for the invoice we found a coupon online, printed and he honored. Great work, glad to have hot water again, would highly recommend. Price is a bit higher than others, but worth knowing the job will be done right and with up-most quality.
Description of Work: Replaced 75 gal. Gas Hot Water heater (removed old and installed new). New pan, 5 Gal expansion tank, replaced pressure value, and cutoff valve.

During a hard freeze, our old pipes burst wreaking havoc on our home. The turn-off valves were so old that my husband, even with a mighty hand, could not turn off the water that was flooding our kitchen and basement. An amazing plumber from Furr's corporate office in Manassas, VA, came to our rescue. He supplied and installed a new pressure-reducing valve set at 55 psi along with a new main valve and secondary main valve. He put in a level-operated turn-ball valve so it would be easy for even 94-pound me to turn. All of the equipment is guaranteed for 1 year. Never have I seen a more professional and friendly plumber. He took great care to protect our floor and wall. He had all of the needed supplies and tools readily available when he came. It was a pleasure to work with F.H. Furr. (Don't you think that is an unusual thing to say about a plumber?) We plan to choose them to handle all of our heating, air conditioning, and plumbing needs in the future.

I have (had) been associated with F.H.Furr since 2002 and have had an maintance contract with them since then. Last Friday the fan on my outdoor compressor stopped working properly. Calling Furr (remember I am a maintance contact customer and supposed to get priority service), I was informed maybe a technician could come on Saturday. Technician showed up on Saturday and said the fan motor did indeed need to be replaced and they could not order the part until Monday. I understood. Monday was a bad weather day, but I could not get anyone from the organization to return my calls with a status. Tuesday AM, was called and informed the part would not be available until Friday, 7 March and that they would call to schedule an appointment. This was not the type of and quot;Priority Serviceand quot; that I expected as a long standing customer. I began calling other HVAC companies and located one that could pick up the part and have it installed today (4 March). And magically, when I called Furr to cancel the order and sever my relationship with them, they were able to find a part they could pick up tomorrow. Through this entire process Furr acted like this was no big deal and treated the matter is a somewhat cavalier manner. I have cancelled the part order, my maintance contract (still and do not plan to conduct any further business with F.H. Furr; therefore I will not be waiving to the man on the back of the truck, except perhaps one finger at a time.waiting for that call back) 11 March and the saga continues. 4 March I was told a representative would contact me with regards to cancellng the service contract and a seperate one would contact me regarding the refunbd of the $75.00 part requisition fee (I was not going to pay to stock thier shelves). No cantact so I called again on 6 March. Was then told that the customer service rep would send and email to and quot;someoneand quot; and I would get a form emailed to me to cancell my service contract. This individual did arrange (allegidly) to have my refund sent in and quot;about two weeksand quot; (remains to be seen and I am very skeptical). Still no email regarding the cancellation of the service contract, so I will call again this morning. Stay tuned for the continuing saga.

Our hot water tank sprung a leak - our 3rd tank in a little over 20 years - and thanks to our water detection sensors (highly recommended), we were warned before a major flood occurred. This event occurred about 5PM and we had to place an emergency service call. Since we are regular customers with FH Furr, we were placed on their priority queue. The dispatcher told us within about 30 minutes, a technician would be enroute. When the tech arrived, he immediately assessed the cause and provided an estimate to replace the tank, pressure relief tank, and a water drip pan... all for about $2350, but as regular customers, we received a 15% discount; total cost of about $1997. The complete installation took about 2.5 hours - impressive considering this was a one-man show. The installation consisted of re-piping the feeder lines, re-aligning the gas exhaust vent, pressure relief tank, drip pan, drip pan drain line, gas line and the new tank. The installation was spotless, great solder joints, gas vent draw was realigned, and we had hot water within 30 minutes. The price of this work was extremely expensive and must be paid in full on completion, acceptance of the installation - no exceptions.

First of all was suppose to come same day , waited ALL day didn't show... so around 6:30 pm I called office...said they would come around 7 or 7:30 pm.. Later said couldn't get in touch with the plumber ...so made an appointment for next morning 8:30 am. . I took the whole day off of work yesterday, then had to take off another half day today, left at 10:30 am but I suppose giving up my vacation time is not important. The plumber spoke to my husband on the phone.. I heard the plumber ask my husband what he wanted him to do...did not hear the answer my husband gave.. The plumber became very rude..finally gave the phone to me and stated, he didn't have time to go round and round with my husband...I turned on the sink and the toilet immediately gurgles. the plumber immediately stated it was my septic system, later suggested there might be an obstruction, then suggested we use a camera, when I asked what the camera would do he stated it would SHOW where the obstruction was... I suggested that would be good to see the pipes to better understand where the obstruction was..( the plumber did not mention any of my husbands instructions...I called my husband so he could talk with the plumber for a REASON I am not toilet savy) The plumber then snaked out the pipe ( toilet) and found hair clumps.. Stated this was not the cause... He then used the camera to SEE what the obstruction was, or so i thought, then He again suggested we get our septic system pumped.. If that doesn't work .. We could then call him back and he would have to dig up the back yard site..X mark. I wanted to see the camera picture .. He THEN stated, we would have to WAIT 24 hrs to drain out all water, THEN come back to retake the camera footage..we could THEN be able to see the pictures as the pictures he had were muddy and brown BECAUSE the camera can't see in WATER.. WHAT?... NOW HE TELLS ME the camera can't see through water, did he not get --- the pipes were STOPPED UP---.. The WHOLE idea was to SEE where the obstruction was BY the camera...$1227 and 2 hrs (not counting yesterday )we still have tubs that backup EVERY time we take Baths, can't wash dishes or clothes ..etc, etc...NOTHING was FIXED... And the worst part... My husband had told him on the phone NOT to camera it and the plumber didn't tell me that...THESE PEOPLE HAVE NEW TOYS and want me to needlessly pay for them.. I'm furious...

There was a problem with the installation but they came back the next morning and fixed it. It was due to a manufacturing defect not the installers. I would recommend them again.

We have had different companies come out and proved estements at nothing near the cost of this company. Needless to say we will not have F.H. Furr complete this project. This not the first time this has happen with the verbal commutation with us, and nothing written for the office. But, the second time.
Description of Work: Tech arrived at our home and was upset. Our hot water heater had a fan on top of it. The teach informed me right away... We have speaclist work on these. I am not that person. He continue to check the unit. Once, he was done he verbal informed me it would cost 3,682.00 for the company to install a hot water heater we purchase from a different source.

Spoke with plumber by phone/voice to arrange time to install utility sink replacement. Sent text to confirm time and receive a confirmed response. Text him that morning, but now he says it is a time window (not a specific time) of 6 hours. He knew from previous conversation that we needed it to be more specific. Cancel service that day and arrange to be home following day for entire afternoon. Send several texts with one brief response that we were still on list. After waiting around for 5 hours (now past 9 pm in the evening), send him text cancelling service.

provider didn't show and this was scheduled weeks ago. I called at 1200PM and was told the service provider would be there between 12-2PM. my time is limited and I wasted an entire morning. I was told FH Furr had higher priority jobs, translated higher paying jobs. Not happy with FH Furr. I did reschedule for an appointment two weeks from now and was given first call of the morning. If they deliver I will be fair about this and note that in a subsequent review on Angies list.

F.H. Furr replaced our old oil furnace with a new Lennox heat pump system. They arrived promptly (even a few minutes early), and were very efficient, removing the old unit and installing the new one in under six hours. The quality of the work was excellent. Another crew from the same company came to clean out our air ducts the following week, and they were also prompt and efficient. In each case, the two man crew was headed by someone who was more experienced, accompanied by another who was newer to the job and who received guidance and encouragement from the first one. All in all, a very positive experience.

I must first say that I have used F.H. Furr before to replace an air handler and heat pump and was very satisfied with that work. HOWEVER, I called for a broken water line hoping and willing to pay the emergency premium to get the water back on the same day. The advertising in yellow pages where I found their number says, 97 minutes same day service guarantee. When I was placed on hold, an advertising saying the same thing blared in my ear. I talked with Donna after she told me that the call was being recorded. After listening to my problem, she said that the Express Emergency Service 97 Minute Guarantee applies and quot;only when availableand quot; and that she could not get someone to our address until the next day. It appears that F.H. Furr's Express Emergency Service 97 Minute Guarantee only applies at their discretion. The advertising is false. So I practiced my discretion, scratched them off my reliable list, and called Michael and Sons, who dispatched a plumber within an hour. If F.H. Furr cannot maintain a surge capability to cover their advertising, they should not advertise.
Description of Work: Didn't get that far. The issue was a broken piece of PVC pipe approximately 3 inches long. The broken pipe is not behind a wall and after a shutoff valve. The job should have taken no longer than two hours.

On September 29, 2012 one of Furr plumbers unstopped a sewer line leading from the utility room drain to the street. He used a power snake, and there were no unusual problems. He charged $635.40. Last week, a Furr plumber replaced two gate valves, one faucet, and two shortwater lines in the utility room. His bill was $847.79. He also quoted me a price of $2000 to install a replacement water heater. According to HomeWyse, the U. S.national average price for installing a replacement water heater is $600 to $800 depending on capacity. Home Depot put in a Rheem water heater yesterday for $1,038.

I asked for an estimate to install a new valve under the kitchen sink for installation of a dishwasher as directed by the delivery person for Bray and Scarff. The FH Furr salesman/service tech didn't test the valve already in place. He clicked each applicable entry on the company's charges template and warned me about the risks of twisting old copper pipes. The estimate was $605 which, after a 10% discount for senior citizens, was reduced to $544.50. Mr. David Kerns came, inspected the valve, and said there was no need to replace it because it worked fine. Subsequently there were no problems with the dishwasher installation. Mr. Kerns saved me a huge amount of money. FH Furr seems to be only focussed on profit. I do not recommend the company at all.
Description of Work: Talk with friends who have had plumbing repair done. I found an excellent plumber, Mr. David Kerns, on a friend's recommendation. Get at least two estimates. A large company can use advertising to make the consumer feel secure. FH Furr certainly does this. Finally, delivery men might not be experts on installation. Ask the plumber to be sure the need is true. Ask for an inspection of your need before accepting an estimate for the work.

The FH FURR technician showed up 2 hours late, stayed 25 minutes to reconnect heat duct under house in a locked crawl space, (which he indicated it appeared someone had and quot;purposelyand quot; messed with the connection - probably him or previous technician who had been there). He showed up 2 hours late, stayed 25 minutes, and then reported to FH FURR that he was on the job for 1 hour and 45 minutes and then he had the audacity to charge a $115.00 show-up/diagnostic charge, PLUS $198.00 to reconnect heat duct (took him 20 minutes), which I might add was FH FURR's initial responsibility to ensure all connections when they sold me a $6,000.00 total TRANE Unit in August 2012. In a discussion with their manager, and quot;Mikeand quot; (I believe that was his name), he offered a small $45.00 reduction which was credited to my credit card. He claimed my Son agreed to the minimal discount, which I told manager that my Son doesn't own the house and has NO authority to agree to anything. My Son indicated to the manager he could expect to hear from his Mother, because he knew this minimal offer would not be acceptable. I then contacted this low level manager who was RUDE, CONDESCENDING, ARGUMENTATIVE, AND BASICALLY TOLD ME THAT WAS ALL HE WAS GOING TO DO. I further contacted a FHFURR Customer Service who listened to my complaint and said I would hear from someone that day or the next day. You guessed it, no call for a week until I AGAIN CONTACTED Customer Service who had higher-level Manager call me and who basically gave me a 30-minute orientation of how much it costs FH FURR to run their business, especially since they are in VA, MD, WVA, and so on. Frankly he did nothing and offered nothing. I WILL NEVER NEVER RECOMMEND OR USE FH FURR AGAIN. THEY COULD GIVE A RAT'S BEHIND ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. I WILL TAKE EVERY FUTURE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPOSE THEM AS THE FRAUDS, CHEATS, AND LIERS THEY ARE. BTW, THEY INFORMED ME THEY CHARGE THE SHOW-UP/DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE OF $115.00 AND THEN $300.00 AN HOUR. I HATE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT HOME DEPOT, WHO I BOUGHT THE UNIT THROUGH, WHO USES FH FURR AS THEIR INSTALLERS, WHO I CALLED AND TALKED TO AN EMPLOYEE, WHO INDICATED HE WOULD HAVE THE MANAGER CALL ME, WHO NEVER DID CALL ME TO HEAR MY COMPLAINT. I AM NOT DONE WITH THEM YET EITHER, I WILL BE VISITING HOME DEPOT THIS WEEK, WEEK OF 12/8/2013.
Description of Work: FH FURR Technician showed up 2 hours late, stayed 25 minutes, and then reported to FH FURR that he was on the job for 1 hour and 45 minutes and then he had the audacity to charge a $115.00 show-up/diagnostic charge, PLUS $198.00 to reconnect heat duct (took him 20 minutes), which I might add was FH FURR's initial responsibility to ensure all connections when they sold me a $6,000.00 total TRANE Unit in August 2012. Question - if you buy a new engine from the Dealership and they install the engine, would it not be their responsibility to connect all lines, etc., to make that engine run properly? Well apparently FH FURR thinks NOT, when it comes to HVAC units.

We are long time customers of F.H. Furr loyally paying $13.95 per month for, among other things, emergency service/response. When our heating/ac went out at 12:30 am, we tried calling 3 different Furr and quot;emergency phone numbersand quot; and even went to their chat service. They told us we would have to wait until at least 7am (normal business hours) before they could consider our emergency. There was no on-call person to respond. Meanwhile our house got colder. We called TLC which has a real on-call person and are waiting for that person to arrive. We are very disappointed the $13.95 per month emergency service really means and quot;we will handle any emergencies as long as they can wait until normal business hoursand quot;. How that constitutes emergency responsiveness remains a mystery.

Instead of simply re-sealing the toilet, they kept and quot;upselling.and quot; First, they made a case for inspecting the line to the street. Next, they made a case for a new toilet. My mother agreed to this, thinking that a toilet should cost about $300. However, the one that the technician just happened to have on the truck was over $1000. My mother is nearly 80 years-old. I cannot help but believe that the technician realized that he was working with someone who is gullible. This is predatory behavior.

Overall well. The salesman was focused on providing a quality solution, not just a quick like for like replacement. I was referred to FH Furr via a Kisok/reselling arrangement they have with Costco so the price was very good. I was traveling on business when they arrived to do the installation. Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication between the salesman and the installation team so they installed the attic unit backwards. I had to escalate the dispute to the installation supervisor. Once I got him on the phone and explained the situation to him he understood an agreed that the team had to come back out and rotate the unit and reconnect it. (Otherwise thier service techs would have to crawl over the unit to access the access panel and service the unit.) A few days later the team did come back out and installed the unit in the proper orientation. It has operated very well over the past 9 months and I am about to call and have thier service techs come out to service both units. So, they are good contractors, but you have to review the installtion before the crew starts work to make sure everything will be installed as you agreed with the salesperson as in my case there was a slight disconnect that I couldn't correct since I was out of town when they started. They do seem to be focused on quality and .customer satisfaction.

Called today for an estimate, the man got here on time as promised. He looked over the existing WH - 1992 installation date. Checked county codes with the office and checked into a larger capacity unit (but it would not physically fit, so I went with the same 50 gal size). Wrote the estimate and went over it with me - the need for an expansion tank and replacement of the main water valve. We agreed on the price and he had a unit on the truck so I told him to go ahead. Took about 3 hours for removal,replacement... Installation looks very professional. He walked me through the controls and annual maintenance (although they will do that as part of our existing service contract). Very pleased with all aspects of this job.

There service includes two free checkups. One for your heating, one for your air conditioning and you don't pay for the visit. As a preferred customer if you have an emergency you can call them and they generally do respond almost immediately. I like everything about them; They are courteous on the telephone and they show up within the window that they say and they quickly call ahead of time when they are en route to let you know that they'll be there within 20 minutes. They protect their shoes when they come into your house and I have never experienced any pressure for buying anything extra. I have found all of these as very fair. The service personnel are straightforward and that's what I appreciate about them.

Three weeks ago they were here for maintenance inspection before the winter season, that is part of the agreement that I had purchased with them as a customer.

We originally signed up as a priority customer. When we called to schedule our first seasonal check up, my husband asked for a specific day and time when he would be home from work. He waited and waited and no one showed. When he called to follow up, he got the run-around because they said we were not a priority customer. So my husband demanded that they come out because that's what we paid for. They did, but this left a bad taste in his mouth. So we called again 2 weeks ago to schedule our Autumn check up. We asked for an appointment 2 weeks out. Got the same response, they didn't have any appointments because we weren't a priority customer. What! So we're paying extra to be bumped to the back of the line. Needless to say we will not be renewing our contract.
