They did a great job! They responded quickly to my request for an estimate. Ike came and spent about an hour with me picking out the granite and measuring the space. I found their price to be more reasonable than the large stores like Lowes and Home Depot....even with the ogee edging which cost extra. The day the installation was scheduled, they were on time and had finished everything in about 2 hours. The counters look great!

Perfect. Tamara is very responsive via email and phone, they are very professional and nice. I wanted to work with another stone yard also in Frederick and they had absolutely no problem with that. I was so happy, I ended up with a gorgeous stone I love! The counter was finished nicely and the caulking was pristine. Ike dealt with my crooked walls very well, you can't even tell. Everyone was on time, no funny business with the price, no upcharging. Once we put the stone on hold they got it installed in about a week. I decided to go with Blue Isle vs a discount outfit because they are so highly rated on Angie's List and it was more than worth it. I plan to have a vanity made so they are very nicely holding on tho the leftover slab for a bit.

Because of great results in the past, Blue Isle was the only company we called for this project. Again, we were thrilled with the high level of customer service, the responsiveness, costs and installation. Tamara is highly knowledable and a great communicator-keeping us advised throughout the process. Ike and his team are professionals which is evident in the finished project. They re-installed my old sink- cleaning it until it looked brand new! The countertops look fantastic! We're in awe of the capabilities of this team. They thrive on challenges and continue to raise their level of customer service. It was no surprise to us when we saw them listed as one of Angie's List top contractors for 2010. We're proud to support this family-owed business. They take their business seriously and it really shows!
Description of Work: We recently completed our 4th project with Blue Isle Granite and Tile. Years ago, I would have never thought we would have a frequent need for countertops and am so glad we found Ike and Tamara. Most recently, Blue Isle replaced our kitchen countertop--installing a Silestone top. Having gone through the process a few times before, we knew what to expect.

Ike arrived on time for the estimate appointment to measure our master bath and guest bath countertops, threshold, and bathtub surrounding. We had been told by other contractors that they wouldn't be able to create a seamless bathtub surrounding, but Blue Isle was successful and came in below other quotes we received. Tamara and Ike were always responsive by phone or email, and accommodated our last minute request to reduce the width of our threshold without pushing the installation date. They were also able to locate our preferred granite styles and begin installation within one week. Ike and his team arrived on time on the installation date and completed all work as expected in a professional manner. We are extremely satisfied with the work completed by Blue Isle.

We called Blue Isle Granite based on Angie's List reviews to request a quote for new granite countertops. We also wanted new wood and tile flooring, new appliances, new lighting, etc. and wanted ideas on relocating our island. Blue Isle agreed to come visit our home with the contractor they work with. The representative from Blue Isle visited our house and took measurements of the countertops and was very professional but the contractor who was supossed to come with him did not show up. Valery Irons of Moss Building Design, the contractor, called our house later in the week asking when she could come. We were still trying to find a time where I could take off work to meet with her when we received an e-mail with a proposal from the contractor -not Blue Isle- very vague details about what they planned to do (the quote did not include the granite, nor anything else for that matter). Ms. Irons wrote this quote without visitng our house or taking to us about what we wanted or how and where she would relocate the island. We were surprised that she will send a quote for work in a home she had not seen. My husband e-mailed her to ask for more details and noted that her quote was vague and she felt ofended. I called her to ask more questions about what she had based the quote on and where she was planning to relocate the island - how long and wide will the new island be, etc. she indicated that she based her quote on measurements from Blue Isle and that she did not need to see the site to know what she needed do (but we did not bother to ask what we wanted) . She then became very irritable and raised her voice so I thanked her for her quote but I did not want to work with her. We would never hire a professional to do work in our house over e-mail. This review should go under Moss Building Desing contractor but they were referred to us by Blue Isle. Blue Isle Granite and Tile never sent us a quote for the granite.
Description of Work: I hate to write a negative review, unfortunately there is always a frist time. Our experience is not as great as everyone elses. Based on the reviews for this company on Angies List, we called to ask for a quote on new granite countertops for our existing layout, with an option of maybe relocating the island. We also asked for additional work with kitchen flooring and lighting. Blue Isle Granite and Tile agree to come with a contractor they work with. The Blue Isle rep came to our house as scheduled and took measurements. Their contractor did not show up and sent a quote over e-mail. Blue Island never gave us a quote for the existing layout, we never heard back from them.

It is unfortunate that your overall experience with Moss Building and Design was unsatisfactory. We take our business very seriously and a report like this is extremely upsetting. Upon receiving this report we contacted Moss. When a client requests assistance with a project that is not a service we provide, we typically refer people who we would trust to do work in our own home as a courtesy to our clients. This experience is atypical for Moss. Valerie had an unexpected family emergency and could not attend the meeting. Ike informed the member of this. Our sole purpose was to assist you with finding a reputable contractor. The member was the only one present when Ike arrived. He didn’t want Ike to measure the counter top for granite or look at any granite samples that Ike brought with him as he was uncertain of the rest of his remodeling project. Since no measurement was taken of the counter tops and no granite selection was made, it was impossible for us to send an estimate. Neither member ever contacted us regarding this issue. It was, therefore, impossible for us to resolve this matter sooner. As our clients can tell you, we take pride in doing exceptional work and make every effort to ensure customer satisfaction.

We contacted Blue Isle based on the Angie's List recommendations. The results look great -- essentially a kitchen makeover for a fraction of the price of a full remodeling. There were glitches along the way. For starters, the standard procedure is for a contractor like Blue Isle to send you off on your own to a granite warehouse where not-so-friendly staff reluctantly haul around the huge slabs of granite so you can get a look at them. We had been told by Blue Isle how many square feet we needed and found two slabs that together satisfied that requirement. They ended costing more than we expected and were on the short side for a long stretch of counter we have. At first, Tamara, who handles all the customer contact, told us Ike simply couldn't deliver on the design he'd promised, with just one seam. But we insisted that we didn't want two or three seams in our granite. Eventually, Ike came up with a perfect solution, and we went out to his workshop to see for sure before we proceeded to cut the slabs irrevocably. In the end, the granite looks great (with one seam.) So, as good as they are at Blue Isle, be insistent on what you need and expect and the results should be fine.
Description of Work: We got new granite countertops for our kitchen, replacing Formica that was ugly even if it wasn't falling apart. This was a way-overdue improvement.

Thank you for your feedback about our company. The original estimate that we sent was based on a stone from India which is much bigger than the Brazilian stone that you ultimately selected. As a result, the slab was not long enough to accommodate the original placement of the seam based the layout and size of your kitchen. I called 6 different distributors in the area to see if anyone had Crema Bordeaux slabs that were long enough and could not find any. We like to be upfront and honest with our clients and that is why I informed you of this issue. If we would have kept the seam placement in the original place, your granite would not have flowed perfectly. Ultimately, Ike was able to come up with a solution by moving the seam to a different location. We do not have enough space to house ever type of granite that is out there so we typically send our clients to local distributors in the area if they would like to hand select their slabs. I apologize that your experience was not favorable at that particular location. Although we cannot control the customer service that others provide, as a company, we always try to provide excellent customer service. It is for that reason that Ike continued to work on your project until he found a way to make it work and even met you at the shop the day after the birth of our daughter. Thank you again for your comments and we hope that you enjoy your new counter tops.

The process of having the countertops measured, removed, and reinstalled was very easy! Ike showed up exactly when he said he would when he came to give us an estimate and again when he came to install the counters. His team was very professional and completed the job in a very short amount of time. Tamara was very responsive when we called and was willing to help out in any way she could. The counters are perfect in every way! We are very particular about the end result of our jobs and almost NEVER contract to have someone else do the work for us. Blue Isle surpassed our expectations! Excellent experience! It was a pleasure doing business with Ike and Tamara!

Emailed the company. Got a call within 24 hours to set up a time for a consult at my home. Excellent meeting with the business owner. He told me every detail and answered ALL of my questions. Had samples in his truck to give me an idea of what kind of product he installed. He was very professional and knowledgeable but not intimidating ... very polite and friendly. I was given the name of his supplier. We visited Daltile a few days later. It is a football field-size warehouse with every possible type and color of granite one could imagine and more. I brought the sample numbers with me and was able to find what I wanted easily. The staff was helpful and very friendly. They contacted Blue Isle. in about a week the granite was ready. All the work was done in one day! The crew was very neat and quiet. They were very careful with the drawers that had to be removed. When the work was finished, they cleaned up everything before they left.
Description of Work: Precise measurements were made of my counter tops one of which was in the form of about two/thirds circle. Removal of all kitchen counter tops and sink. Disposal of those materials. Installation of granite countertops and back splash. Installation of new sink.

I have a large kitchen (about 72 square feet of countertops), so the budget was a concern from the start. Ike and Tamara were not only the best price, but also the best value overall. Tamara is exceptionally responsive and friendly over email and the phone; they had a show at the Expo Center after I got my estimate, and Tamara responded to some emailed questions very late at night, clearly after she got home from the show. Ike was friendly, helpful, and never pushy or condescending, like some of the "design" firms I had out for estimates. He was always right on time and the crew he brought out for the install was professional and courteous. Ike took the time to explain the issues they uncovered as they removed the old countertops, and the crew fixed the tiny amount of damage that they caused during demolition (due to the way the kitchen was constructed). They also vacuumed and mopped up after themselves, leaving my kitchen cleaner when they left than it was when they arrived! I love my new countertops; I feel that they've added far more value to my home than what I paid for them. I would definitely use Blue Isle again, probably without bothering to entertain other estimates.
Description of Work: Provided new Verde Butterfly granite countertops (no 4 inch backsplash per request), an undermount sink, and reworked the plumbing (went from double to single bowl sink). Removed old laminate countertops, sink, and faucet, and hauled them away.

I am still in the process of getting it done. They were really responsive. They were very professional but they don't use a computerized system. The owner came out and he used sort of old school measuring tapes and t-squares. They were way cheaper and other companies wouldn't beat their price. I would absolutely use them in the future.

Thank you for your feedback. Ike has worked with both ways of measuring and believes that there is more room for error with the computerized system. By taking his time and making his measurements by hand, he provides a more precise and accurate measurement. This ultimately provides better customer service to our clients which is our end goal.

Blue Isle granite and Tile promptly returned call for date to provide an estimate for this project. On the selected date, Ike arrived on time and spent an hour making detailed written diagrams of the counters. He provided a detailed list of what was to be included in completing the total project. After compiling the results from 2 other companies, we selected Blue Tile and Granite. The price was the best of the estimates that we received and we were impressed with Ike's professionalism in explaining the details to us. We trusted his appraisal and explanations. On the day of the installation, Ike and his 2 man crew arrived on time and worked without stopping for 3 hours. Ike was totally involved in the work as well as supervising the other employees. Ike never hesitated to answer our questions regarding this project. His bid included everything except a faucet which we purchased and his plumber installed. We were very impressed with the professional and quality work that this company exemplified. We highly recommend Blue Isle Granite for their workmanship and attention to details. The finished project is beautiful and the selection of the Lapis Brown granite was the correct color for our kitchen. Tamara and Ike are exceptional professionals who are a pleasure to know.

Ike and his wife Tamara were responsive to out emails and answered all of our questions. We waivered a few times on color choices for the granite and Tamara was kind enough to provide us with names and addresses of warehouses where we could go and look at samples to assist us in making our decision. We even compared the price point per square foot between Blue Isle Tile with Home Depot, Lowes, and two other Granite Supply Stores, with Blue Isle coming ahead when compared to multiple competitors. On the morning that our countertops were finally installed, Ike and his team arrived early, plugged in their radio and went to work. They were even kind enough to ask if their music was too loud as they did not wish to disturb me while doing their job. The end result was beautiful, clean, and we couldn't be happier. Blue Isle Tile by far exceeded our expectations and we would definitly use them again.

Blue Isle did a great job with our kitchen counters. Ike, Tamara, and their installation crew were all helpful and professional throughout the process and we highly recommend them. To get the most important aspect of the job out of the way first, Ike and his crew did a great job putting the counters in. The granite itself looks beautiful and to my eye it was installed perfectly. Our 1 seam looks beautiful, or perhaps I should say it hardly looks like anything at all. Ike mixed the epoxy to match our granite, and "filled in" the granite pattern in the epoxy to help blend it with the counter. Watching him work, I was impressed with his attention to detail in making sure everything was done perfectly. As an example, one wall in our kitchen is not perfectly straight, so Ike cut into it a bit before putting the granite down to make sure that the counter itself was straight and would fit the range that's going in next month. I suspect that a lot of other contractors would not have worried about (or even considered) this problem as the issue would not show up for months or years down the road, and in any case he or she could simply blame it on the slanted walls. Those are the little details that you may not think about but that can make a big difference in the quality of your job. As far as the sink is concerned, the one we chose was a fairly standard but nice looking sink, and Ike's crew did a good job installing both it and our faucet. Backing up a bit to the selection process, Ike and Tamara were very pleasant to work with. Looking through my e-mail history it looks like Tamara and I exchanged 29 e-mails back and forth. She was always timely with her responses and willing to help with any questions or concerns I had. Ike was also friendly and had a lot of great suggestions, not only about which granite colors and patterns would work best in our kitchen, but also things like which color tile would work best, the placement of the sink, recommended faucets, etc. In saying this, I don't want to give the impression that Ike was pressuring us into deciding on a particular setup. On the contrary, Ike only offered suggestions when we asked for them. I wanted to take advantage of Ike's knowledge so I found myself continually asking him what he thought, but if you have your mind made up on what you're going to do I don't believe he will try to talk you out of it. Like a good waiter, he was there when you need him and invisible when you don't. As far as price is concerned, they were very reasonable. Their price seemed to be similar to the base price of Home Depot for the colors they had in common, although going through the Home Depot process you get nickel and dimed for everything. Blue Isle's estimates on the other hand are up front about every charge you will incur. If you are tempted by the sticker price of a large hardware store be sure to go through the entire checkout process to see the real bottom-line costs before deciding. We did have one contractor submit a bid that was lower than Blue Isle's, but in some sense it's an apples-to-oranges comparison. This other contractor was kind of a shoot from the hip kind of guy who was really offering a different service. It might be great if you wanted to save a few hundred dollars to have a guy who may or may not know what he's doing, but this isn't what we were looking for. We did not use Blue Isle's plumbing contractor, so can't comment there. We are very happy with Blue Isle and will recommend them to family and friends.

Our granite countertops were installed to replace original laminate countertops. Tamara and Ike are wonderful people. They both worked quickly and ensured that the project had no delays. Tamara handled all scheduling with me, Ike and the plumber. Ike visited our home for measurements and was very meticulous. He ensured that every minute detail was incorporated in the countertop design. He offered advice for enhancing the functionality of the kitchen. This included adding additional overhang space on one side of the island to accommodate additional sitting room, as well as giving excellent advice regarding the pros and cons of bull nose versus demi-bull nose edge detail. Instead of using the cardboard sink cut-out template, which comes in the box with the under mount sink, Ike took the actual sink to his site to ensure a perfect cutout for the sink was implemented on the granite slab. He demonstrated how the template was actually smaller than the sink. This would cause the granite to overlap the sink and not show any sink edging at all. This extra care proved beneficial in showing off the sink instead of hiding it (I witnessed too much granite overhang at my last house. He is right, seeing the edges of the sink really makes the under mount stand out and it gives a bit of extra class). He was actually with the project from the beginning to the end. He selected the slab per our specifications. The colors were exactly as we specified. Gorgeous! He cut the slab, personally performed the rounded demi-bull nose edging, polished, sealed the slab, and then he personally delivered and installed the granite countertops. With two assistants, he delivered and mounted the countertops to the cabinets, installed the under mount sink, installed the trim and backsplash, and spent time ensuring that every detail was accurately implemented. He placed the cook top in the island to ensure the cutout was precise. His assistant even measured the counter edge in front of the cook top to ensure the appliance was centered precisely in the cut out and straight (The appliance installers, which arrived to connect the appliances the next day, did not even perform that quality check). Ike and his assistants were very meticulous and the finished product is phenomenal. I would highly recommend Blue Isle Granite & Tile to anyone. Ike treated the project as Rembrandt did his paintings; you could see that he truly put his heart into his work?or in this case his work of art. The plumber arrived the next day and connected the sink and garbage disposal to the plumbing. After he left, there was a little bit of leakage. The plumber came back a day later and resolved the issue.
Description of Work: Our granite countertops were installed to replace original laminate countertops. Two separate granite counters and one granite island counter were installed. Granite trim was included around the perimeter. A matching granite backsplash was installed behind the sink. An under mount sink was affixed to the granite counter. Four holes were drilled for the faucet and related accessories. The square footage of the granite was 90 sq ft.

We wanted to update our old-fashioned countertops with granite. Tamara responded right away to my email and Ike came out and measured and asked what we wanted. There was no pressure to choose a higher-priced granite and he was patient with our questions, including about the sink and the faucet. Tamara followed up with two estimates (for the kitchen and pantry separately) and we were surprised at how reasonable the price was and the fact that they provided a discount without our mentioning it. We chose dakota mahogany and they gave us a date of two weeks. Tamara got in touch the day before and Ike and his crew came this morning (right on time). They were simply amazing--Ike is an artist with granite. The countertops are gorgeous, you can't see the seals, and it just flows. The kitchen looks wonderful! I asked Ike to make a small matching countertop for an island that I had bought and within minutes I had a very reasonable estimate of the price. The kitchen was left in s*** and span fashion, the crew helped put back the drawers that we had to take. Ike and his crew were pleasant, courteous, and professional--there was no wasted or down time. I can only say Ike and Tamara are just wonderful--they take pride in their work and it shows from start to finish. A WONDERFUL experience!

Great experience from start to finish. Tamara worked with on price, materials and timing. Ike was flexible and courteous, and did a nice job in installing. They even helped me resolve an issue with another granite counter in my house. These guys are true professionals. I highly recommend them.

The whole process was easy. I called and Ike came out measure for my quote. He was very meticulous in his drawings and measurements. He was upfront about some of his concerns regarding the lay out of our counters. We talked about possible options and he gave me his professional opinion. I agreed that I needed two seams, but he assured me that he would install and line the seams up himself and told me they would be "invisible". Of course my first concern was price and Ike said he would try to work up a quote for the granite I wanted that would fit my budget. Within a few days Tamara sent the quote which was reasonable. We signed and returned the contract and scheduled the install date. They were quick with ordering the granite. They had a distributor close to me where I could see and inspect the slab myself before installation. The day of installation came and Ike showed up with two assistants. They made quick work of removing the old counters and installing the new. Ike did line up and camouflage the seams himself. He did such an excellent job, that my husband couldn't even find them when he got home that day! I was very impressed with the level of professionalism and customer care. Tamara and Ike make a great team. Tamara has gone above and beyond to answer all my concerns before and after install. Ike is definitely a granite artist! Would definitely recommend.

Thank you for your feedback about our company. We apologize that you are not 100% satisfied with the final price for your granite. As Ike and I mentioned to you, there were less expensive granite selections. However, we tried to work within your budget as much as possible and we gave you a discount on the granite that you chose. We are glad to hear that you are happy with our customer service and the overall quality of our work. Providing excellent customer service and a quality job are very important to us. We hope you enjoy your new counter tops.

'Ike' and 'Tamara' were GREAT to work with. They communicated well throughout, including the initial requirements determination, detailed written measurements, supplier sourcing and coordination, cost determination, installation and cleanup. I cannot see how they could have done a better job. I especially appreciated the suggestion that we take a sample of our existing floor tile and visit the actual warehouse where the granite was stored by the supplier. Seeing the large granite sheets before they were cut, and consulting with the supplier in their Chantilly, VA warehouse enabled us to select the perfect granite counter tops to go with our existing floor tile. The kitchen now looks like a new room, even though we kept the old cherry cabinets and just replaced the knobs. It's a completely different space now, and the price charged was very fair. I recommend Blue Island Granite & Tile without reservations, and plan to have them back to do more work in the house.

It went perfectly. Ike insisted on completing the work in the middle of snowmageddon. The wind was whipping and the snow was piling up--I tried to convince Ike to postpone because I was worried he and his guys wouldn't be able to get home, but he insisted, saying he wanted to stick to his commitments. The granite was literally iced over when they got here because it was so cold. Still, the guys were quick, professional, and the countertops look amazing. The one seam is invisible -- I watched Ike mix the putty himself and add in touches to be sure it blended seamlessly. The tile, completed a week or so later, was equally well done. I'm very happy!

Our old green laminate counter tops were getting hard to look at. My husband said "let's replace them". He went to Angie's list and found Blue Isle. He sent them an email and off we went. I received a call from Tamara the next morning and she sent Ike out that afternoon to show me samples and give us an estimate. The samples were not quite right so he gave me the names of a couple of places to look at slabs. We found just what we were looking for at the first place and reserved it. There was a bit of confusion as to the name of the granite and I feared the worst, that when it came time to install, we would have the wrong piece. I sent Tamara an email and she quickly had the distributor send me a photo of the slab we had chosen and put my fears to rest. Our installation date had to be reset due to the early birth of our Grandson, but Tamara took it in stride and rescheduled us for the following week. Ike and his team showed up on schedule and went to work. I was impressed at how well they worked together, how quiet and efficient they were, and that they used safety equipment to prevent injury lifting the heavy pieces of granite. In only 3 1/2 hours, they had completed the work and cleaned up. The plumber was scheduled for the next day. He arrived on time and took care of hooking up all the plumbing. On Saturday, I noticed a small bit of water under the sink. I checked it again on Sunday morning and it was wet again. I sent Tamara an email asking for the plumber to return on Monday to check things out. She called me back immediately and sent the plumber within an hour. The problem was very minor and resolved quickly. This was by far the best experience of home remodeling I have ever experienced. Ike and Tamara are top notch from start to finish.

Wonderful experience. They came to our house on a Saturday to measure and give us an estimate. Ike was very professional, and clearly knew what he was doing. We had the estimate in writing a few hours after he left the house. The work was scheduled for less than two weeks later. The quality of the work was excellent. There are two seams, Ike had explained during the estimate process why this was necessary for our configuration, and you can barely see them. The sinks are installed securely, and all the pieces fit together perfectly. When the workers were in the house they were very respectful, and I felt comfortable having them there. Customer service is the best I have ever come across with a contractor. I forgot to enclose the check with the contract, and not only were they extremely understanding, but they came to my workplace to pick it up. Tamara was extremely responsive via phone and e-mail, and was flexible and worked with my schedule to get the plumber scheduled. We had a leak after the existing garbage disposal was reinstalled (needed a new one), and Tamara was able to get the plumber out first thing Saturday morning to fix it so I didn't need to take time off work. I could not be happier with this experience from start to finish, and I highly recommend this company. I like that it is family owned and operated, and they clearly take pride in their work and customer service.

I initially contacted this company because of the recommendations from Angie's List customers. Great choice! Ike, Tamra, and their staff provided fantastic service from the first call to the follow-up call after the granite installation. I typically get four estimates for every project I undertake, and this company was an excellent choice. Their customer service and knowledge of the product and project sold me. I was nervous about undertaking a kitchen project, and they were extremely helpful in offering ideas and suggestions (ie. Ike suggested another shape and size for my island granite, and it looks outstanding!). We got into a bind with our kitchen deadlines, and they worked us in their schedule - totally at our convenience. This company has amazing customer service - always on time, easy phone and email contact, and they made it clear that their priority was that I was happy with the final product. I recommend them without a doubt, and look forward to using them again for upcoming projects.
Description of Work: Blue Isle consulted, measured, designed and installed granite on my kitchen countertops and island. They also removed the existing tile countertops and island top- which was not an easy task.
