Everything has gone pretty well so far. The tech that comes out is the key. They change techs, so you do not have the same person every time. The one that they are using now is very good.
Description of Work: They come out to my house about seven times per year. The last time they came out was for a fertilization and weed control.

We had some trouble with them. They said they were going to aerate both the front and back yard. They only did the front and billed us for both. We had done a prepaid year plan with them and they showed up once in the spring and didn't show up again until we called them in the summer. They tried to make up all the treatments in the summer, which really didn't do much good at all. They came once a month instead of every six weeks like they were supposed to. We have stopped using them. We called them to come in September to do the seeding and aeration; they didn't come until the end of November which was not an optimal time to put seed down. We talked to the owner and he did apologize. The guy that came out to do the seeding had headphones on the whole time my husband was trying to talk to him. He didn't really acknowledge what he was saying about doing the front and back yard, which wasn't very nice. We had to call them 3 times to get them to reduce the bill because they only aerated the front. Their price was competitive.
Description of Work: We used TruGreen for lawn fertilization, seeding and aeration.

TruGreen dumped leftover fertilizer from their application on our lawn – for the second time since last year - in a patch about 2’ X3’, about an inch thick. Both times we didn’t see it until the damage was done. Both times we scraped off as much of the by-then wet fertilizer as we could, but still it killed off the grass underneath and downhill from where it had been dumped. We complained to the office last year and were told by the telephone receptionist that the manager would get back to us. No further response. After the second incident, we cancelled their servicest. We have used this firm for several years with only minor issues such as fertilizer and lime broadcast from the spreader into shrubs and onto paved walking areas, but dumping the spreader's contents onto the lawn not once but twice was the end.
Description of Work: We have used this firm for several years, for lawn fertilization, weed control, aeration, etc. Cost is a guess, since we can't locate the statements.

Trugreen service was unable to remove the weeds from my lawn. The weeds were common and I was able to remove them on my own with one application of week control after I cancelled service. Their service allows the customer to request follow up visits to reapply weed control if the weeds continue to grow. I called them and they came out three weeks afterward. The second application didn't remove the weeds. Neither did the third application. I called to cancel and they tried to keep me as a customer by having a supervisor come out for a review. We made an appointment and the supervisor never showed. I then proceeded to cancel and after several follow-ups a month and half later I received the balance owed back by debit. I originally was told a debit takes 2 to 3 days. Every time I followed up they kept giving me excuses and stated it would be 2 to 3 more days. I feel the only reason I got my money back was through threatening them with legal action
Description of Work: Trugreen was hired for annual lawn treatment. I paud for the entire service upfront. Service started in March. By August the service and support was so bad I cancelled service and requested a refund of the remainder of the outstanding service. They performed 3 out of 7 calls.

Finally "fired" TruGreen, for the second time in a decade, after they failed to show up for a scheduled appointment. Used them for lawn fertilizing, aeration, seeding, lime, grub control -- the whole works, but their work just hasn't yielded the results I feel I was entitled to expect. I got rid of TruGreen early in the 2000s as well, and guess I thought they would have upped their game by now, but after a little over a year of treatments, I need to find another service provider. TruGreen doesn't do a great job, they don't show up when they say they will, even though they're perfectly polite once you get them on the phone (that can take awhile, unless you're a new customer or want a new service). They really only have time for you if they can sell you a new product. Last year, I even installed a top-knotch in-ground irrigation system, in case some of my lawn problems then were due to lack of moisture, so TruGreen can't say I didn't do my part to compensate for the high heat and limited rain this year. Look at the pictures. Even with all that, I have bare patches all over the lawn, broad-leaf weeds, a mole (despite two grub treatments), and huge swaths of bare ground, even though they were seeded, fertilized, limed and watered. The final straw was when they stood me up for an appointment. I'd waited the entire day for them. No call. No show. No apology when I called back the following week. No more business. Time to find an effective lawn care vendor who cares about the customer. Please post your recommendations!

As indicated, the company has found it difficult to schedule my lawn treatments as advertised in their pre-announcements, although this seems to have gotten better (they recently told me that they had had a severe lack of personnel for a while) (For 5 years!!!!????!) Also, my lawn, which has changed face (the weeds are fewer but still occur), has spots where nothing seems to want to grow. Their seeding or overseeding, etc. doesn't seem to help. I've gone out and looked at the application after they've shown up, and the amount of seed seems to be on the extremely conservative side, and my watering doesn't seem to help, as I was told to do. I know I have a problem lawn, but after 5 years, I would have expected the entire lawn to be covered by now.
Description of Work: We've been using TruGreen ChemLawn for about 3-5 years now (at the time of this original posting). During that time, for the most part it's been a taxing experience. We told them to send us written notices of when they were coming, since we have a gated yard, because of our very large dog. They've been good at sending the notices that list the week (!) that they will be coming to do the service. Granted, I know with weather, etc. it's hard to predict the exact day, but for the past several years, the week would go by and no one would show up. I gritted my teeth because I had to unlock the gate for the workmen and warn my aged mother not to the let the dog out unless the dog was on a leash. This has become more and more problematic as my mother ages. With repeated calls and threats to cancel service, someone would invariably show up the next day. Finally, at my wits' end, I cancelled the service: lawn care, treatment, bugs, insects, trees, shrubs (we had subscribed to everything they had to offer). Again, the next day a supervisor called and when I told him about the historic problems, he apologized and said it would "never" happen again, but if it did, I was to call him immediately. Well, it did happen again. I called him immediately. I got his cellphone. I called during normal working hours early on a Friday. I didn't get a return call until Tuesday of the next week.

They did not leave any signs, papers to say they had been there, and I never saw any evidence that they were there on the date indicated on the mailed bill. My husband and I were both home on a day they were supposed to have treated the lawn, but we never saw the truck. We protested the bills, but after fighting, just payed to get rid of them. The lawn over the year did not look like it had been treated. What a waste of money.
Description of Work: They were hired to treat the lawn for insect, grub and weed control plus fertilize spring and fall through 2010. We never had any evidence they actually performed the work, refused to leave signs saying the lawn was treated with chemicals. They lawn doesn't show any improvement over the months they "performed" the treatments.

Despite repeated return trips at our request, our lawn continues to be overrun with crabgrass and weeds. The technicians do not alert you that they are coming- they simply show up, provide their service and leave a sign in the lawn saying that they had been there. We have not been afforded the opportunity to walk the property with a company rep to show them the specific areas of concern (although they are visibly obvious and should not be overlooked by any lawn professional). We have had a considerable amount of difficulty in reaching a manager to have my concerns addressed.

I've had numerous bad experiences with TruGreen Lorton and finally discontinued my service this week. They applied fertilizer to my yard thise week when it was 103 degrees. I'm no expert, but that sounds like a bad idea unless you want to burn your lawn. They called me that night and scolded me about watering more because the yard had browned. They then tried to sell me a grub control application for only $88 (on sale from $127). I declined and bought a $20 bag from Home Depot and did it myself. Their customer service is horrible. Everytime you talk to them, they make you talk to two people to confirm everything. It's a bad business model for customer service and I refuse to participate. I own a townhouse and the yard is very small, yet they were charging me $44 per application, which seemed high for less than 1000 sq ft. I also had a problem with billing, because they initially insisted on automatic bank withdrawal instead of a check. I refused, and they consented to let me pay by check. I recommend you look elsewhere.

We have been using TruGreen for over one year to treat our lawn and trees/shrubs. Work on my trees/shrubs is average and I have no complaints. I have not been satisfied with the results of the work performed on our lawn. The lawn treatment portion of the contract included 7 treatments throughout the year, fall aeration and overseeing, with a lime treatment. At the onset our lawn was in fair shape?green but riddled with broad-leaf weeds and clover. Following the first treatment for weeds a number of brown patches appeared where there had obviously been no grass and is now just dirt. This was expected. I hoped the fall aeration and over-seeding might improve those bare patches but it did not. In fact I am not certain the fall seeding had any affect on the density of the lawn. I have no way to compare the result if there had been no over-seeding. The remainder of the lawn began to improve over time, however this spring and summer the lawn degraded with broad-leaf weeds. There are large brown areas that appear burned (we do water so it is not necessarily from the heat). The company has been out twice to ?spot treat? for weeds and there has been no improvement. The lawn has not improved all spring/summer. When talking with the service representative on the phone I learned the call desk is in another state. There is clearly poor communication between the call center and the local branch. In each case the dates/times that I was told someone would be out to treat was not accurate. This is important as mowing just before or after treating for broad-leaf weeds is not the best plan. It takes a little coordination to be fully effective. During the last fertilization the service-tech left a rather large spill of dry fertilizer in the street at the end of my drive, which I had to clean up. The person at the call center seemed to ignore my remarks about this. Overall the result has not been favorable compared to the cost. We will be looking for another company.
Description of Work: Continuous lawn treatment program including seven (per year) fertilization and weed control applications. One lime treatment and fall aeration and over-seeding. Tree and shrub fertilization/disease/pest control.

We have used TruGreen ChemLawn for a number of years to take care of our lawn while we were posted overseas and rented out our house. This was a convenient way to ensure our lawn remained healthy while we were gone. Once we returned, I continued the service for about a year, but the next year, I decided to scale back because of the expense and the add-ons that the company routinely calls about. This past year, I decided to cancel the service altogether because of the expense. I sent a note to the company explaining that I appreciated their service over the years but did not plan to renew (The service is automatically renewed the next year unless you expressly cancel it.). I wrote this letter in December 2007. Since then (it's now May 2008), I have received numerous phone calls to renew my service including several calls with an argumentative representative, questioning how I planned to take care of my lawn if I didn't hire TGCL. This past week when I returned home from work, I saw the familiar stake in the ground, indicating TGCL had been there. Yesterday, I received a bill in the mail for $75.00 for the service. When I called the company, they claimed my husband had authorized the treatment in February. This definitely was not true; both my husband and I have consistently and adamantly told TGCL that we were not interested in any treatments/service. In fact, my husband had told the company that if we decided to contract with a lawn service in the future it would not be with TGCL. The company agreed to credit my account for the $75.00. We have sent a letter to the company requesting confirmation of this given the track record of miscommunication and seeming bull-headed. At this point, we would not recommend this company nor would we contract for their services again.

I was not happy with the results after having Trugreen come out. They killed an Azalea bush and some Forget-Me-Nots that I had planted. I don't think the guy had knowledge of the types of plants we had. The crabgrass never did completely go away. They took too long to come out after the initial treatment. It was very hard to get through to the decision maker. I had to talk to a lot of different people and basically got the run around. The 3rd time I believe it was the District Manager that came out. He was very nice but by then it was too late for anything to be reconciled. I would not recommend them.

They consistently tried to sell us services we did not ask for by saying, "We're ready to come out today and do such-and-such" as if it was part of our plan when it was not. We had to ask them, "Did we sign up for that?" The answer was always no. Today they came out months after we canceled and applied fertilizer without our ok then tried to bill us for it. They first said that only part of the service was canceled and they couldn't cancel the rest without the original cancellation number, which I didn't have. After I told them that I would not pay and would report them to the BBB, they dropped the payment. I think they are unethical. The yard looks no better.
