I just fired TruGreen. For several years they have been treating my lawn, and every year they keep coming up with additional excuses for extra treatments that make no observable difference. At first, the were fewer weeds. That was good. After that phase, my lawn has not improved one bit. In the meantime, the customer service quality has plunged. After having to call multiple times for the same issue, the rep admonished me for becoming irate. I can't even count how often they put you on hold because "the computer is slow". How many times do they think that excuse is acceptable? I'm done paying too much for mediocre results and bad customer service.

I would never use them again. They are a little more pricey but not out of the ballpark. You pay this fee at the beginning. If you sign on for the season early so they know when to start booking and stuff they will give you a 10% discount and they tell you how many treatments they are going to do. They tell you if they need to do anything extra it will cost more. They don't tell you ahead of time if they are going to do extra they just take it out of your credit card which they have on file. We started getting these crazy charges on the bill and I called them and said even at the car dealer they let you know before they start charging. I stopped using them after the first year because our lawn did not look any better than when we started. They still keep sending me stuff and I made it perfectly clear I did not want them back. They do not give the little customers the same treatment as the big customers like the golf course. They don't care. Because they are so large they've got to be good but they're not. There was nothing redeeming about them. They would leave the gate open and the dogs would get out. They were supposed to be putting stuff on the shrubs to keep them from getting those little teeny flies in there because they will start attacking them. My boxwoods were full of those things. They were not good. You had to talk to them by office but they only have a main number. You had to talk to them but the local office never got the message. They kept sending us bills and we ending up paying them 3 extra payments for nothing. Our yard still looked like crap. It's just a regular old lot, maybe a half acre.

They were not so good for me. I thought they were good; they were good when I was living there, but now that I have renters there, my renters recently reported that they've killed the grass. When they called me to tell me they were coming again, that's when I called the renters to tell them they were coming again, and the renters told me oh good, last time they came they killed the grass. That was three months ago - it's a little late for me to do anything about it now.

Failed to properly maintain lawn health. Many parts of the yard are now dead requiring re-sod. Confusion within the TruGreen organization to which office would manage this community of 500+ homes in Spotsylvania County, VA. Service was either late, did not come, and in one case provided the incorrect application to the yard killing much of the grass.

Around Sept 16th I called TruGreen to schedule my lawn for aeration and seeding. I was told that I was already scheduled for 22 Sept. I told them I did not schedule it but was willing to have it done anyway. They told me since 22 Sep was a Sunday they would do it on 23 Sep weather permitting. I agreed and the date was set. I cut the grass, marked the sprinkler heads, ensured the lawn was watered. Sept 23rd was a nice day. No one showed up to do the job. No one called to let me know why it was't done. I called them to find out why the service wasn't performed. They said they didn't know why, but would have the scheduler call me. Today is 11 Oct 2013....I've called TruGreen 8 times to try and have the service scheduled!! Each time I'm told that an email would be sent to my local office and someone would get in contact with me...they have NEVER contacted me back! They do a good job of taking care of my lawn throughout the year, but seem to have a problem with aeration and seeding. Last year was the same thing. After seven attempts I called another company to get it done. At this point I'm done with TruGreen for aeration and seeding. I actually don't like having to write this review, but after 2 years and 15 phone calls without them EVER calling back, but promising to, maybe I can save someone else the aggravation and frustation of dealing with TruGreen.

We weren't happy with Trugreen. They wouldn't show up when they were supposed to. They would say they were here and they weren't. We were scheduled to overseed with Trugreen and they never came. We kept calling and calling, they said they'd be there Tuesday and they didn't come. We spent the whole fall doing that. Then it was too late to overseed anyway. They kept calling us back and offering us deals to re-sign with them. Their yearly program was about the same price as Super Lawns. It was pretty dramatic because last Fall the lawn needed to be overseeded. It hadn't been done in a number of years. The fact that they continuously did not arrive to do it when they said they were going to was pretty frustrating. Ultimately, it wasn't done. We saw the repercussions of that in the Spring. Our lawn wasn't as nice as we wanted it to be. The other thing that happened was that more than once, a gentleman came here from Trugreen for the scheduled treatment and he was doing it based on his records that the prior treatment had been done. I had to go out to the vehicle and look at his records and say, "Well, you can't do that treatment today because it's based on the treatment that should've been done beforehand but wasn't. Regardless of what your records say, it was not done. Nothing was left here to say it was done." I had to be like I was working for Trugreen and keep everybody straight on what's going on with my property. Then I'm ready to call them and say, "I'm really sorry but we have to discontinue our service with you because of these issues." and the first person I spoke to about that was, "Fine, that's okay." Then someone, later on, contacted me and said that the reason all of this had happened was that that Fall they had instituted new software into their business environment. There were problems with scheduling. I understood but that wasn't helpful for me as far as the service that needs to be done on the lawn. They should've straightened that out and not let people's lawn suffer from it. They might be a little larger than the people I'm using right now so you might not be getting as much personal attention. There were a number of times where their billing was inaccurate and I was charged for them coming here when they hadn't come. I was able to not pay for those visits that didn't happen. I had to get on the phone and quality assure all of that. It was kind of one thing after another. I think their office staff was professional.

Tru Green is horrible. I paid for grass seeding, but all I got was a mound of grass seed dumped in a pile on my front yard in a place that is hard to see from the house. The lawn treatments were never done in a timely manner. I would not recommend this company to anybody, not even for free to my worst enemy.

We had this service for several years and discontinued it due to terrible customer service. We complained several times that the treatments were not done for the entire yard. WE asked to switch technicians since we were dissatisfied. Additionally, the company was asked to notify us prior to aeration and overseeding so we could mark sprinkler heads and they just showed up without notifying us,while we were at work, and damaged sprinkler heads. Calls to the main office fall on deaf ears. Last straw was when the company was asked NOT to come for aeration and overseeding as we had other work going on at our house. A bill was left in our front door for "the treatment", there was no sign of plugs from aeration nor seed anywhere to be found. After 5 phone calls to the TruGreen HQ office to notify them that we were not going to pay for service we did not receive nor asked for, we continued to receive bills. Finally someone responded, cancelled the bills and we cancelled the service. We continue to get solicitation phone calls from the office now, after telling them to remove our phone # and place us on the do not call list. Every week we continue to get phone calls from this office. I will be contacting the BBB about this company. NO customer service.

Tru-Green is an absolute waste of money. They made my lawn look worse than it ever had during the two years I used their services. I am not even sure why I gave them a second year to screw things up but I did. I ended up with a yard that riddled with dead grass or no grass at all!!!
Description of Work: I hired Tru-Green to take care of fertilizing my grass on a yearly basis. I wanted to get rid of the weeds and restore my lawn to a nice pretty green landscape. Unfortunately these people failed miserably. I gave them two years to try and make things look better but all they accomplished was killing nearly 60% of my lawn. I finally discontinued their services and now use Kingstowne Lawn and Landscaping for my needs.

We had been using Trugreen on our lawn since March 2012. As the end of summer approached, it occurred to us that we needed our lawn to be seeded and aerated and understood the Fall to be the appropriate time. I was surprised Trugeen didn't suggest this to us as our grass had bare spots from construction and we had hired them to take care of our lawn. Regardless, in late August I called them to inquire about the service. I was told the cost was $356 but if I paid in full over the phone right then, they would take 10% off the total. I agreed and paid in full. Then nothing happened. September passed. I called them at least 3 times in October to find out if they were coming out. I was told each time it would "in a couple of weeks" but they never came. By November I was tired of calling them and tired of waiting for the service to be performed so I called one more time to request a refund. Despite the fact they are efficient in taking a credit card over the phone for payment, I was told they could not issue a refund over the phone and I would need to wait for an actual check to be mailed. I agreed. After 3 weeks of waiting for the check, I call again. But of course I'm no longer calling the sales department so it's difficult to get anyone to answer. All I could do was leave messages. Which I did 3 or 4 times over a 3 day period. After probably the 5th time trying to reach someone, I was told the check had finally been cut and would arriving soon. After almost 4 weeks, the check finally does come but it's for $181, not the $324 I paid. I'm beyond frustrated and I call again. And again. And again, because I can't get anyone on the phone who can help me. Back to leaving messages. I'm not giving up so on my next attempt I'm able to get someone on the line who can look up the account. and tell me why the refund was shorted. I'm told that I was refunded the "seeding" but not the "aerating". I don't care kind of backwards accounting system they have but I should not have to chase down a refund for services I had to chase down in the first place. I finally got the 2nd check and of course it's still not correct. They shorted me $26. I'm still waiting.

TruGreen is awful. The sales guy I dealt with on the phone the first day was great, and that was the end of it. They showed up as planned for their first treatment on 7/11/12. We didn't really see an improvement in our lawn after the first treatment, so we were going to give it a few treatments and see if it improved. Then they disappeared. According to TruGreen, treatments should be about every 6 weeks. It took us multiple phone calls (4-5) and threatening to cancel our contract and requesting out money back to get them back out to our house on 9/20/12 (over 12 weeks after the first treatment). They also informed me at this time that my core aeration/overseeding was scheduled for 10/18/12. Now Oct 18th has come and gone and still no TruGreen. I called to find out when they would be out to do the core aeration/overseeding that we've already paid for, and the lady on the phone said that their field guy would have to call me. She couldn't even tell me why they didn't show up. She was supposed to have their field guy call me, and I have yet to hear from him. I plan to call them tomorrow and ask for my money back so I can get a responsive contractor to come do the work before it snows. I DO NOT RECOMMEND TRUGREEN TO ANYONE... TAKE YOUR BUSINESS TO A COMPANY THAT WILL DO THE WORK!

I was fairly non-critical about the services. I just wanted the basic treatments done and did not require anything special. However, our last treatment was awful: In early September the technician applied the treatment. After he left, I checked our front door and our mailbox for the instruction sheet he is to leave telling what had been done and how we were supposed to water and mow. There was no instruction sheet. I called the TruGreen office and was on hold for a very long time before I spoke with someone. I told him that I did not know what had been done or how I was to follow up. He responded that the technician would call me the following day, and I asked him if he would also mail me the instruction sheet--which he said he would. When I never heard back, my husband and I each called again--same thing: long wait time, promises that the technician would call back. I then wrote letters to the Lorton TruGreen and to the Corporate office--still no response. However, I have heard from them--I've received bills for the service. And basically, the service was useless since there was no follow-up on our part because we did not know what had been done. If grass seed was planted, none has come up. I have truthfully never encountered a company with such poor customer service. Long wait times on the phone, and no attempt to respond to us or resolve the situation. There isn't even a phone number that you can call and speak to someone in a reasonable time. We will discontinue their service at the end of this season and I would never recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: We were with Agrolawn for many years, and just continued with TruGreen when they took over. We have a contract for seasonal service; I think there are 5 treatments per year.

Dealing with this company has been like pulling teeth. For a long time, they would do anything to keep a contract by promising the world over the phone, and then simply falling back to their old ways the very next minute. The phone operators are all very nice and polite, but all they can do of course is take messages. Incidentally, many messages were never taken correctly or simply never put as part of my record. That's the nicest thing I can say about this entire experience. And most importantly, the management is worthless.
Description of Work: For the past 6 or 7 years I had this lawn care service (weed control, grub control, tree and shrub control) from this branch of TruGreen. They repeatedly didn't keep appointments as promised. Instead, they'd reschedule after I had to call them back, and either not show again or show up unexpectedly. We had agreed that they would call in advance because I have a locked yard. They would call, but then rarely keep to the schedule. Telephone calls to their office were either never returned, or I'd be switched to their offices in Upper Marlboro or corporate in Dallas or some kind of a hub in Richmond. Even these latter offices couldn't get through to this Lorton, VA office. Given the voice mail to this office's manager, I left a message saying that I was really fed up with their lack of lawn care and abysmal customer service. I wanted a return call by 5 p.m. that day or I'd discontinue. No phone call. I called at 5 and got the Customer Service in Dallas who admitted that certain offices were notorious, etc. My question about why they were allowed to act as they did fell on deaf ears. No answer was given. I cancelled all services. Why did I continue with them for so long in the first place and put up with such terrible service? I had AgroLawn and they have been taken over by TruGreen. TruGreen is a lawn company that is a part of a big conglomerate. I am pretty happy with my lawn service. I feel like my lawn is in better shape this year. I can't tell if its because of the lawn service or if it is because we have had an unusually rainy spring. I think they are providing good service.
