During the first visit, the technician looked at the Central AC unit (which wasn't leaking at the time) and looked over where the condensation was draining outside the building. He made some adjustments to the drain outside and left. This visit was about $200.00. The leak started again about a week later. I called them back and the same technician came out soon after. He said the drain might be clogged and put some tablets in the drain to clear it out and left. This visit was part of the service guarantee and was free of charge. After this visit, the leak started again a couple days later. I called them back again and they sent a different person out to look at the problem. He looked at the outdoor AC unit and without my knowledge or approval came back inside with a bill for $150.00 for a new cap and refrigerant recharge. He then told me that if the leak continued that they would charge nearly $500 to do a leak search in the entire system (which they should've done on the first visit). The leak did continue and after spending close to $400, I got absolutely nothing. I did not call back for a leak search because all of the previous visits had been a waste of time and money.

Great! They came. They saw. They conquered. Fair price, too.

I filled out and submitted a request for appointment form on McCarthy's website, to have them contact me to schedule an AC tuneup. It has been a week since I filled out this form and I have not heard a peep from them. Apparently they do not need my business, since they could not find the time to contact me to schedule this service. Here's a tip- don't have a feature on your website if you aren't going to work the requests. This is the 2nd time I have gotten the brushoff from this company. Last year, my husband contacted them concerning a possible hot water heater replacement and was told by whomever answered the phone that they were booked. Really? It wasn't an emergency and was going to be a planned replacement. Great way to operate!

They were really nice and fixed the problem.

Requested a quote for a tankless water heater and received a timely response. This job required our gas meter to be split, so paperwork was submitted to the gas company by McCarthy after we signed it. We later learned it was not completed properly (missing info) so our scheduled work date was pushed back. When the workers arrived, they were concerned because it was a much bigger job (requiring more supplies). They completed as much work as they could and asked to return at 11:00 the next morning, after they obtained the appropriate supplies for the job. My wife took the next day off and she was very surprised when no workers showed up at the scheduled time. When she called at 11:30, she was told they were sent to DC to complete a job (rather than getting the supplies). I was very upset when I learned about this because we also have a service contract with this company. (I'd be interested to know what job was more important.) When I arrived home from work at 3:30 pm, there were 4 McCarthy trucks in front of my house, and the job was completed later in the evening. The workers who installed the system were very professional, and this company is extremely fortunate to have them as employees.

When you start a panicked experience with "My husband is out of town on business and there is water all over the basement floor" and end up pleased with the result, you know you've called the right contractor. We went first to Angies List since we fortunately don't have a plumber on call. After selecting a number of "A" rated contractors, we started calling. McCarthy Services was the only service that was ready to respond. In fact, a supervisor with 30+ years plumbing experience came quickest. He quickly got the water shut off and went right to work. There turned out to be two leaks: a special joint and a pressure sensor. The special joint required a special part that the supervisor went out and got. The supervisor fixed the special joint. The supervisor called around to many parts suppliers, but the pressure sensor was not in stock. He then talked to the company that installed our well pump and plumbing. They had the part in stock. He explained the problems and asked if they would sell him the part. Naturally, they would not. So we had to schedule for well contractor to come the next morning, when the second part was replaced. At the end of it all, the supervisor reduced the bill because he could not fix both problems at once, even though it was not his fault that the second part was not available. McCarthy Services provided notably exceptional service in fixing one part of the problem and then explaining to another contractor the second problem. He stayed on site until he knew that my wife had the situation under control and did not charge for the extra time and attention. I would not hesitate to recommend McCarthy Services for emergency plumbing repairs.

Was a little late in arriving but service is good and quality of work is excellent.

Very well. We had three different bids. McCarthy Services we brought in after hearing an ad on the radio. We checked them out on Angieslist and asked them to provide us with an estimate. Their price was competitive with the stipulation of getting the work done prior to their busy season. That worked for us. They found why our new humidifier wasn't working right, which was great. They arrived on time, with every thing they needed. They pulled the old system, put in the new one and cleaned the air ducts. The gentleman show us all of the differences and how to program the new system. We can now manage our humidifier from the console. They were all very professional and knowledgeable. The left the basement cleaner than it was when they went in......that usually happen. We now have had the system for several weeks and have used the AC and heat, given the crazy spring weather. It works wonderfully. It keeps even our upstairs cool, which had been a challenge with our old system. We will definitely use them for other services. We are very pleased.

McCarthy's was recommended to locate the problem with water appearing on the floor under and around the heating unit. A technician arrived the next day and identified the source. He also checked the A/C system. Based upon that, we decided to replace the heating unit and the "A" frame above it. We were given an estimate which, for a top of the line unit, seemed reasonable. The next day a crew arrived with the replacement unit and all of the materials needed for the job. They replaced the heating unit and the coil. They rewired the humidifier so that it would only run when the fan on the heating unit was operating. They installed a top of the line thermostat. In addition they reconnected the water line for the humidifier so that the water in was controlled by a decent valve rather than an old, awkward saddle valve. They completely redid all of the PVC pipe work around the unit making that area look neat and clean for the first time ever since we bought the house in 1972. Best of all, lifetime guarantee on the heating unit. No hard sells along the way. Everyone I worked with in the company was top notch in customer relations. Pleasant experience.

Kenny came out the day after I called after business hours the night before. He was prompt, clear about the services needed (replaced pump) and able to get the part and book an appointment the day after next. He directed me to their excellent web site where they have live chat and coupons!

We were exceptionally happy working with Jesse and Chad, both of whom worked on the installation. They arrived promptly at 8am (given start range of 8-9am) and finished 2-3 hours early at 2pm (given end range of 4-5pm) Jesse D. -- Suggested using a below the unit air-intake to dramatically reduce noisiness of the unit -- Warned us that firing up the new unit for the first time could create a strong smell (we opened the windows so that it wouldn't be bothersome for our toddler) -- Skipped lunch break in order to finish as soon as possible to facilitate our son's normal nap time Chad S. -- Happily engaged my three year old who was very interested in all of the work being done

Richard Harry the estimator was punctual, professional, relaxed and competent in his role of estimator. After talking with him and weighing one other relatively equal bid, I went with McCarthy. The two man crew of Bill and Gary were on time and did a great job with the install finishing in under 8 hours. This included new sheetmetal/duct work for replacing a 33 year old air handler and installing a new top of the line Carrier Infinity system. It was comforting to watch these two professionals work. Their pace was steady all day long and they worked neatly, with little wasted effort and very few trips to and from their truck. At the end, their quick tutorial for the system was helpful. I was quite satisfied.

I have, and have had for several years, a Heat & A/C preventive maintenance agreement with McCarthy. Twice per year, the company comes out for heat and/or a/c inspections. I trust the company. They are professional, the quality of their work is good and they do not try to sell me something I don't need. They are pricey, but their trustworthiness and quality of work is top notch.

Very well. Came in did a neat job. Explained the new bleeder valve that was a welcom addition.

Again, Larry arrived within the time stated. He was very apologetic for not being able to get to us earlier. He was very organized in setting up his work area and covering our floors to minimize the mess. He worked with minimal breaks and explained the process to me as he worked. The job was completed within the estimated time given and Larry cleaned up in as thorough a fashion as he had set-up the work areas. I was overall very pleased with the job done and the professional and friendly manner in which it was done. I would highly recommend this company and Larry to anyone needing a plumbing repair.

Services performed were thorough. Technician was very knowledgeable and didn't rush the job. He answered any questions I had. I think the price was reasonable too although I didn't really comparison shop. I only detract points from this review due to lack of punctuality and missed appointment date.

The heat stopped working on Monday night. I left a message asking for them to call me back ASAP as I have to very young children and it was winter. They called me the next morning and had someone scheduled for that afternoon. It took a few minutes longer than it would have because we chit chatted a little but the technician was friendly and professional. He assessed that thermostat was old and broken right away. Replaced it with a new honeywell thermostat and we had heat back on in about 30 minutes of his arrival. It is very easy to use and seems much more accurate than the old one.

The process went well from start to finish. The service call was placed on Thursday evening with a slot provided for the next day. The technician (Dylan) was on time (they were able to accomodate me earlier due to a cancellation) and very professional. He explained exactly what he was doing, what the issue was (too many to list), and provided honest feedback on what he would do based on the circumstances.

McCarthy Services arrived on time as promised....were extremely professional...explained in detail all the issues and resolutions and their work resulted in a properly installed and performing system.

Clearly this outfit could care less about being cost competitive. They are pricey. Good a/c firms are somewhat easy to come by. When asked about a service contract to cover future work, they showed me the contract and multiplied by four, given there were four zones in this residence. Other firms have shown a substantial amount of flexibility when bidding on work. This firm wasn't interested.

It was ok. They were very friendly. They made some recommendations for some other work.

The old heater stopped working entirely on Fri or Saturday. It was a holiday weekend (holiday on Monday) and no one was answering their phones. McCarthy Services contacted me on Sunday around lunch time, and we arranged for their rep to come out on Monday. It is not realistic to go without hot water in the cold months. I was grateful they could come out on short notice. Rep came on time, was friendly and professional. He took the old heater out, even though it was in a tiny closet with the furnace. I didn't think it could be done without moving the furnace. We waited about 1.5 hours for the correct sized heater to be delivered. It was a high efficiency one. The other rep helped the first. They cut the pipes, put in a drip pan, installed the new one, soldered the pipes, and made sure everything fit properly. They showed me how the new heaters are lit (no pilot light), and gave me the instruction manual. Overall, it was fairly straightforward but nothing I can do in a few hours. The work was good. I would not use McCarthy Services again bec/ their prices are high, too high for the industry I think. Many are bonded and insured. Also, one can buy the very same heater at Home Depot or elsewhere for about $500. HD also does installation. I appreciate that MS responded quickly, but always wonder whether if I just waited another day or two, it would have saved me $500+. What I learned from this experience is to have a list of good service people who work at better rates, and keep their phone numbers handy. Emergencies always pop up, and that's the premium one pays.

Richard Harry provided us with a reasonable and accurate estimate for a new heat pump and air handler system for our home. He took the time to fully inspect and measure our existing system and answer all our questions. Additionally, he did not attempt any "hard sell" techniques nor did he attempt to sell us additional gimmicks for the system. The price quoted was extremely competitive. Although we ultimately chose a different contractor to perform this work, we would heartily recommend McCarthy Services to anyone in the market for any heating or cooling needs.

I have no complaints about the service itself. From start to finish the company was professional, kind, punctual, and did the work right in a timely manner. They cleaned up well after themselves ...no problems. My only concern is in their pricing. (Disclaimer: we had company coming for a week, and needed to get this work done asap, so we did not shop around. It's possible that their rates are comparable to others) The toilet pull and reset w/clog was over $400! Even as the tech was completing the work I looked online and all the plumbing DIY's said this is a really easy and cheap process. The replacement of the toilet tank apparatus was $180. Again, upon researching it this seems a really cheap, relatively easy DIY. Like I said, we didn't have time to shop around. We accepted their prices because we needed to. Had we had the luxury of time we definitely would have comparison shopped. We would use them again pending pricing comparison.
