He did a great job. Our house was built in the 60's and the faucets were original. He went to the plumbing supply house, talked them into open after their closing hours AND got the parts that fit. very professional and knowledgeable!

The plumber did everything requested and explained things as he went along. All repairs seem very well-done. He was also very respectful of my house and took precautions to avoid damaging or dirtying anything. I received a written report of the plumbing inspection and anything to keep an eye on for the future. My only disappointment was that the pumber did not have the video camera with him to perform the video inspection that was part of the Big Deal.

It went well - there were no problems. One concern that I did have is that the repair man tried to convince me to install a new toilet. When I said "no", he was pretty persistent and mentioned it several times.

Plumbers arrived on time, went right to work, knew exactly what they were doing and did a very thorough job.

Service technician arrived within the estimated time frame. He was very polite and professional. He inspected my A/C unit and furnace finding them to be working correctly. I purchased the Trane A/C unit and furnace from McCarthy Services two years ago for a very fair price which included a two year service contract. I am very please with my experience with McCarthy Services' employees. There hasn't been any issues with my A/C unit and furnace which I highly recommend purchasing from McCarthy Services. My monthly electrical bill has greatly been reduced since purchasing the new unit.

They discussed everything with me. There were two techinicians that worked well together. One worked downstairs and while the other one worked upstairs. The cleand up well after themselves even though they had to cut through my ceiling to repair the leak. They completed the work quickly and in less than a half an hour. They were very professional.

It didn't go at all. The first appointment they called 45 minutes late, saying their cameras were not working. The second they didn't show up at all, without so much as a phone call.

We called McCarthy’s and a technician came out within a few days and told us what the problem was. The estimate was $2,200 to change the expansion valve. It seemed a bit steep, especially on a system that was only 6 years old. A few days later we called another company (with an A rating on the list) and told them what the a/c unit was doing (not telling them that McCarthy’s told us we needed a new expansion valve). The technician troubleshot the problem to the same part, but they only charged $900 for the repair. He also said the McCarthy’s technician had over serviced the unit. Everyone at McCarthy's was professional and knowledgeable, but I don’t need to spend an extra $1,300 for that, especially since everyone at the other company was professional and knowledgeable too.

Excellent experience. We obtained three quotes. Their price was very competitive and their salesman was persistent without being overbearing. The install team arrived the day after accepting the proposal and worked through horrible weather conditions to finish the job on a timely basis and with very little mess considering the muddy conditions. We had a bit of a problem with the positioning of the line to the external unit and called them about it a couple days later (July 4 in between). They quickly scheduled a team to return and change the positioning without question or extra cost. Well done McCarthy!

They do the work as we want, we were not here for two years, and there were renters living here, who wouldn't let them come and work always, but we had done the inspection before. They are always good.

I did not know about the company and chose it because they ran a coupon on Angie;s list: $77 for drain cleaning. I called them on Friday and arranged for he technician to come on Monday. The technician was Manning. He was super professional -- fixed the problem in 20 minutes and gave us very useful tips about our equipment. He also pointed out to me that the age of the water heater was over its lifetime and explained different options for replacing it to avoid nasty surprises. I decided to choose this company to do my regular maintenance for heating and cooling systems. I also will probably use them to install a new water heater for us. I will try to get the same technician (Manning) to come to do the service because I feel I can rely on his experience, knowledge and skills. Good job.

The parts had to be order which mean had to set up a other visit to install.

I called McCarthy on a Saturday, and they picked up. I told them that I had a backed-up sink and that I would like to use the $89.00 Angie's List deal to clear my drain. Since I didn't have an emergency situation, I asked to schedule a plumber for Monday. They called on Monday morning between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m., but I missed the call. When I called them back around 1:00 p.m., they said that they could send someone immediately, and Kenny was here within an hour. Kenny was pleasant and polite. He spread a canvas tarp to ensure that he wouldn't damage my floor. It turned out that my pipes were plugged down deep, and Kenny had to run about 135 feet of snake. He cleared the leak and recommended that I use a bacterial product to keep the pipes clean. After cleaning the pipes, he had difficulty getting a good seal under the sink, so he replaced a faulty connector. He made sure that the connections were holding and that the sink was draining well, and he left everything clean. Since the plug was so deep and the connector had to be replaced, I was afraid that McCarthy wouldn't honor the Angie's List price, but I was happy when they gave me exactly the price promised, not even charging extra for the replaced connector. I really appreciate McCarthy's integrity in completing the service as promised at the promised price, even when the clog may have been more difficult than some clogs.

Diagnose problem and gave an estimate of cost to repair.

Well first of all, the setting up of the appointment and the follow-thru went extremely well. I placed my order for the coupon and called 5 minutes later for a next day appointment. The person answering the phone wasn't aware of the $89 coupon but stated that they had lots of coupons through angieslist. The dispatcher/expeditor said that they had an appointment from 10-2pm, I requested a phone call 1/2 hour before the service tech arrived, and it took me 20 min to get home and he was sitting out front or my house. Now, for the bad part, when I signed up for the coupon I realized that it didn't include parts (just labor), when the technician called in, he confirmed that it indeed did not include parts. I said ok, but then he proceeded to tell me that the P-Trap and associated items (total about $10 from Home Depot) was going to cost $79 (when I balked at the price, he told me that his manager wanted $99). I told him to go ahead and proceed with the work as I've already invested time out of my day to come home from work to meet the technician. I think what McCarthy has done is despicable and under-handed.

Randall was courteous, knowledgeable and completed the work in no time. The only drawback, aside from the company's urging customers towards service plans, was that his company requires that he call in to process cc payments.. the lady he worked with placed him on hold 4 or 5 times (this after several calls received a fast busy tone), but finally obtained the card info and processed the payment after 30-45mins. Don't have any negative to say about Randall.. he was great, but unlikely to use company again based on pricing structure, delay in obtaining payment. Tech cleaned up area after the job was completed and took the old parts with him for disposal. The window provided for tech arrival was from 8AM to 12PM.. tech arrived at 1PM after another job ran over. Company did call confirming tech arrival ~ 12:15PM. Randall explained how to clear blocked items in disposal using hex key (comes with installed unit), and that running water for a min after using disposal will clear food oils which will ultimately increase lifespan of unit. He negotiated pricing as I was not interested in buying a service plan, and another bid was more competitive. I ultimately went with McCarthy (even though they were more expensive, even after negotiating price down) because time constraints prevented me from going with another company. Note - the only positive aspects from this interaction was the professionalism of the tech, the work he performed and the timeliness of them arranging the appointment initially.

I scheduled a $59 a/c system check special. My system appeared to be working fine, but it had been a few years since it was checked. Phil R. was the tech. I received a call before he arrived, he arrived on time, was dressed clean and professional, and polite and easy to talk with. He told me that he had owned his own company prior to joining McCarthy. Phil started on the inside, removing the lower panel on my furnace and attaching the gages. All was fine. He did not remove the upper panel to examine the A-coil, which had been replaced years ago, or check the electrostatic filter, which I told him I had just cleaned. All good so far. Phil then went outside to inspect and test the outdoor unit. He showed me several parts and told me about maintenance that was needed. He had the parts on the truck and completed the work in 45 minutes. I whined a little about the cost, but he told me that he had included every possible discount. Then he wrote his report: "Inspected AC system. Tested all components and R-22 refrigerant charge. Found system to have a failed dual run capacitor and replaced dual capacitor. Also low on R-22 and condensor coil dirty. Recharged R-22 and chemically cleaned cond coil. Also replaced contactor due to pitted and burned contacts. System now cools properly. Note: Due to aged condition - recommend replacing AC system soon. AC Inspection - special rate $59.00 Chemically cleaned condenser coils $140.00 4 lbs recharged R-22 refrigerant $345.00 Installed dual turbo run capacitor $318.00 Installed new 1 pole contactor $233.00 Total $1,095.00" Prior to writing this review, I looked online to find the retail cost of parts. At HVAC Solutions Direct, the Amrad Turbo 200 capacitor Phil installed costs $49.20. A matching replacement for the GE capacitor, which was bulged at the terminal end, would cost $19.45. The White Rodgers 94-388 contactor is available via Amazon for $11.15. A 30-pound container of R-22 costs about $350 in multiple places, or about $12 per pound. With this information, I called McCarthy Services and talked with Dennis, who has worked with Dan McCarthy since the company was called M&R and consisted of only four people. Dan explained to me that they use the same book rates as most other companies, and Phil had indeed discounted the price from $1219 to $1095. If I had purchased a service contract, the price would have been $998. My caclulations: Doubling the retail cost of the parts would total under $250. That would leave $845 for labor, or $422.50 per hour for two hours. Granted, companies go into business to make money, specialized training is required, and not just anyone can buy R-22. But I believe after analyzing these numbers that a fair price for this service would be between $400 and $500. And that, in too many words, is why I rate McCarthy a D on price and B overall.

I had previously planned on updating my toilets. This unfortunate water damage encouraged me to act now. I purchased 2 toilets. Kenny identified my specifications, ordered and installed my toilets in the same day. My experiences with McCarthy has usually been professional, quality and in a timely fashion. I also appreciated Kenny's removal and clean up after the job completion. I highly recommend McCarthy.

I had become dissatisfied with another company, and a friend recommended McCarthy. I have been very satisfied with their service. The only thing I would like to have that was part of the contract with another company is a priority for first-call of the day service when scheduling the maintenance call. However, McCarthy does come within the time frame specified.

I had told the person who came out that we didn’t want the same model as the one we already had. He told us that they didn’t even sell that brand. However, when he came back to install it, it was the exact same on we already had. When we asked him about this, he said that it was the only one he had in the truck. We called the manager, who was very rude. He said that they didn’t sell that brand of water heaters. We ended up having someone else install the new water heater.

They are a great firm, albeit a bit expensive at times

They have always done a nice job. I would use them again.

They are prompt and do a good job. They will let you know if there are any problems and if there is work that needs to be done that is beyond the limits of the contract.
