I had several companies bid on the job, and McCarthy Services had the best price. The installation went very well. The installers flushed the air handler condensate drain lines - a good sign. I'm somewhat knowledgeable about heatpumps and it all looked good to me. But, the poor rating for professionalism was created by the terrible after sale service by my sales person, Brian Spargo. First, I needed a from for my Dominion Power rebate. His response was the this heatpump was not eligible for a rebate from Dominion. It took 3 followup calls before I got someone that could send the form, and I got my $250 rebate Then I called two months after installation to get help because of a thermostat problem - that was last Tuesday and I haven't heard back all week. Next week I will call again and get someone else to get my problem fixed. Mr. Spargo did a good sales job, including bringing out a duct sizing person, when requested, but the poor after sale service is inexcusable.

I contacted McCarthy for an estimate for a new heat pump (our old heat pump was still working, but was on its way out)- the sales rep came out and was really knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. He actually noticed several things that were installed improperly on our old system. He ended up recommending a Lennox unit, because they apparently install quite a few of these units and get some sort of a discount, but we ended up opting for a Carrier Performance series system. (I've spoken to several people who have had Carrier units for 20+ years without major problems, so wanted to go with them) We ended up getting estimates from two other companies for the same system - companies that were A rated on Angie's List - and both of them were significantly higher in cost. Since we decided to do this at the slow time of the year for HVAC installs, McCarthy was apparently able to offer us a discount compared to "peak" install times of the year (spring-summer from what I understand). We opted to get the system installed with McCarthy even though our old system was still working so we could save money on the install and start saving money on our utility bills. The day of the install came and two guys came out to install the system - they were at our house for most of the day, but ended up rebuilding a lot of the ductwork distribution system that leads out of the air handler to make it compatible with the new Carrier air handler. (no extra charge) Their supervisor stopped by twice during the day to look in on things which was good to see. The thermostat that they installed ended up being defective out of the box, but McCarthy scheduled a technician to come out the very next morning and install and program it. Two months later and the system is working great. Actually, it's amazing how well the dehumidification works on these Carrier units. On muggy days there's a constant stream of water coming out of the air handler and the air actually gets way cooler than our old unit - we can even set the thermostat a little higher than we used to have to set it. Overall, very satisfied with McCarthy- their quality of service, professionalism, and price were all great. McCarthy even helped fill out the paperwork so I could get the Dominion Power heat pump rebate. Only minor complaint was around the extended labor warranty that we opted to get - apparently they have had some issues with Carrier's rebate service so it's been taking them some time to figure things out and we don't yet have the warranty in place. Aside from that, everything about the experience was great!

He showed up on time and did the work in less than 5 minutes. Then he did a home inspection looking for any problems we may have. He seemed knowledgeable but their prices for the work they suggested are extremely high. Higher than all other estimates I've gotten.

The customer service representative was extremely helpful and quick to schedule an appointment. She was also very upfront with discounts to military and senior citizens which I found refreshing. As a military member I always feel a bit odd asking if there is a military discount. The day of service did not go as well as planned. Originally, I had taken the afternoon off to cover down on having the plumber at the house in the afternoon to repair the faucet. We received a phone call asking if the plumber could arrive early has he had finished up a job early. We decided to stick with our original appointment as the faucet is right outside my daughters bedroom and waking her up was not in the cards. Two o'clock came, followed by three and then four o'clock with no plumbers. At five the dispatcher rang an told us the plumber was running late and would be with us at six. No problem we said. Six came and went as well as seven. Finally, just before eight, the plumber called and said he could not make it. I phoned McCarthy's the next morning and they were able to reschedule for the same day. The plumber arrived on time and was very knowledgeable. He walked me through everything he would need to do and the additional cost for supplies and labor. All and all I was very pleased with McCarthy's and will most likley use their services again in the future.

Two plumbers arrived on time (earlier part of the 4 hour window) and spent almost 2 1/4 hours. They were very friendly and completed everything that they needed to do. The only downside was the cost, but at least everything now has a warranty.

Technician did an excellent job and would use them again.

We purchased the $99 coupon. Unfortunately, our pipe was directly in the wall. Had to cut hole inside of house to replace pipe and faucet. Now I have drywall to fix also. Not their fault and faucet needed to be replaced. New cost was $366, but given credit for $99 coupon. Have no basis for price comparison, as I didn't do the research. Randall D. did a great job. On time, efficient and very thorough and professional. I would defintely recommend them and Randall.

Tech was knowledgeable and thorough. Explained in terms I could understand. Did feel like the tech attempted tried to upsale me.

It was fine, but just wish they had let me know ahead of time how much it would cost and it was really expensive.

The man that came looked like he was scared. He came and didn't do much. He opened some of the things on my furnace and did not put some of the things back. He did find the problems that we called about, but said he could not do anything because my furnace was under warranty. The price was really good for me and he did a very good inspection.

I bought a big deal on Angies list for clearing a blocked drain. They would only apply the purchase price, not the stated value to the larger job I had to have done. Furthermore they talked me into a serivice contract to redue the cost of the service, but they have never contacted me to schedule preventitive maintenance service. When I buy a product, I expect the seller to take the lead in scheduling service. I was also disappointed they wouldn't apply the stated value of the big deal to the cost of the service rather than the actual cost of the deal. In efffect, there was no deal. I only answered yes to whould I use them again, becuase I want the service I have already paid for.

The whole service call was a waste of time and nothing was actually accomplished. The service man was only at my home for a short period of time explaining what needed to be done. I emailed the company explaining that nothing was done and asked for a refund. I have not heard from them in the week that has passed since the email. I really am not pleased.

I purchased a hose faucet replacement service as an Angie's List Big Deal from McCarthy Services. The plumber showed up nearly 2 hours late. He then claimed that he had to order parts to replace the hose faucet as the existing one was somehow special. Of course, he claimed this wasn't within the pricing of the special deal. I told him to just replace it with a standard hose faucet. He claimed he couldn't. I told him I was cancelling the job.

Service was prompt and friendly, both on the phone and in person. I would definitely consider this vendor for future work.

Too busy trying to sell me a new system instead of doing what they were hired to do.

It went well. The plumber was courteous. He was about an hour late. It may have been because the home office called my work number vs. my cellphone number to verify the time. Overall I was pleased.

I purchased the $99 coupon for a replacement of an outside hose bib. The plumber arrived as scheduled. I was not home; I left my daughter in charge since I thought it would be a simple replacement. I got a call at work from my daughter a few minutes after the plumber arrived. It will cost me an additional $189 to get the faucet replaced. I was told he would have to cut into the dry wall in our finished basement to remove the old faucet since it was soldered in place. Mind you, it is soldered on the outside, but he insisted he would have to cut the wall because if he removed it from the outside, the pipe would "go back in the wall" and he would have to cut it anyway. AND he was not going to repair the hole so I would have another expense to get drywall patched. I was also offered other items that were recommended. In total, it could cost over $400 plus the drywall repair. I feel deceived. We did discuss what I had actually purchased; he said if it was a simple unscrew the leaking faucet and screw on a new one, the coupon would cover the costs. I COULD DO THAT MY SELF! Now I have to figure out to get the $99 back for the coupon.

Came and checked the ac unit to make sure it was ready for the summer. Pointed out things that may pose a problem in the future because the unit is old. Offered to set up a meeting to discuss a replacement unit but did not push the matter when I declined. Overall a very good experience with the tech and the supporting staff.

Service was thorough. We received a detailed customized sheet on how to make our AC perform better and what parts needs to be updated and replaced.

Better than perfect which is hard to find these days. Angie's offer was purchased on the same day the service was requested...they actually accommodated their time to work with our schedule. Mani arrived as scheduled. He was polite, professional and very thorough. 2 fans were installed properly, he asked to clean up teh boxes after he was done and no mess was left behind. I would recommend Mani if you ever request any services from the company; he won't disappoint you.

The technician was on time and professional . He examined our AC unit and provided some cleaning and up keep tips.

Update 7/29/2014: After writing my review, I was contacted by McCarthy Services regarding my dissatisfaction with the service I received. They apologized and sent me a $100 refund check. I appreciate their following up with me and am satisfied with that compensation.

It worked out very well. They came within the first few weeks after we purchased the deal and they had to do some extra work that we asked them to do so they charged us extra for that.

Not to well. Plumber looked at broken faucet on the outside and there was a need to find the pipe connected to the faucet. Took him to the basement and then was informed that he would have to cut the ceiling /walls to find the pipe and that any drywall work would have to be taken care of by owner. He informed that a $442.00 value for faucet replacement was being offered for $99.00 by them through Angie,s list. Showed him outside faucet that was leaking a little and he fixed it in 5 minutes a $75.00 to $85.00 job probably and he made up a ticket which indicated that the coupon I had was being offset by the 5 minute leak fix (which I could have done myself). No whole house inspection was offered or done.
