Great job. They were fast and efficient and honored the Angie's List coupon for the labor of $100 and only charged extra for the part.

The service technician arrived as scheduled and explained that the special service deal I purchased was for replacement of a normal residential outdoor faucet. We happen to have a hydrant faucet normally found on commercial buildings. Our faucet was much more difficult to access and repair but he was able to do the repair fairly quickly. I offered to pay any additional cost, but the technician had the necessary replacement parts and he honored the Angie's List coupon price. I will definitely use McCarthy Services for any future plumbing services and I will also contact them for an estimate for replacement of our furnace which is almost 20 years old.

He repaired the leak due to a disintegrated washer in sink in lower bathroom. He found another leak in utility room on a main pipe and replaced piping and added a new elbow. We have had no further leaking in these spots. We use this provider on a regular basis. We just used them in Jul 2014 to clear the main drain for another $600.

The HVAC inspection went fine (the price above includes a 1 year service contract). He said I needed freeon added. After he left, instead of working better, something happened it actually started to not cool the house. He had to come back. He said he didn't do anything but after he left the second time, the air conditioning returned to normal so not sure what that was about. The toilets were rebuilt in Sept. In June the one in the master bath started making noise. The plumber came out and said the chain was too tight on thing inside. he loosened it and it has ben fine since. . He replaced the seal inside the spout in the spare room and there have been no more leaks since.

I am giving a grade of "D" because of the very bad experience with this contractor. The shoddy work was eventually correctly satisfactorily by a second technician so I cannot give a grade of "F". This was a plumbing "big deal" where I paid for the service call in advance. Communication problems: I had given the scheduling clerk (possibly an answering service) my phone number where I wanted to be called during the day to set up an appointment. I explained the problem in detail. But it looks like the scheduling clerk did not relay any of the details I gave her.The technician did not call the number I gave, but showed up at the house. Fortunately my adult so was in the house to meet him. The first technician appeared to be in a foul mood and used very bad language. Even my adult son was embarrased by his foul speech. Fortunately there were no children within earshot. The technician was ill-equipped for the repair job even though I had specified to the scheduling clerk what the problem was. The technician went off to "get a part". (I hope his absence was not intended to pad the bill with extra time.) The final job was very poorly done. My son had to call the company back to get another technician to come and fix the first job. The second technician, Tim A., was very professional. Here is what Tim had to say about the poor workmanship he found at the job site. "We found this side bibb not screwed to the wall and it was sealed with Plumber's Putty. We used Hydraulic Cement to fill the hole around the bibb then screwed it to the wall." Had Tim A. been the first technician we would have been very pleased with the work. But that was certainly not the case, and I will not call this company again, because I have no guarantee that I will wind up with a relaible plumber. I am disappointed in Angie's List for using this company for the plumbing "big deal."

The plumber came on time. He looked at some other problems and explained what was going on--they were an easy do it yourself fix. I had two outdoor faucets that needed replacing, but one had been walled in during a construction project it was decided to do that after the pipe had been found i.e. the wall cut into. The other was a replacement that was difficult to get to, but didn't require cutting. He changed that out at the price of the big deal. I was very happy

The quality of the work was good, the worker nice, polite and punctual. But the special offer was misleading. They charged $49 just to come to my house, so even with the credit, the whole thing ended up costing some $200, which isn't really a deal. To put it simply, the Angie's list special offer made me believe I was getting a promotional offer, and a good deal, but I ended up paying the full market price I would have paid everywhere.

It went well. I learned that the electric air filter was installed wrong side by me. Technician fixed it. He asked me to get coils cleaned and gave their estimate. The whole thing lasted about 25 minutes only. I guess it was fine. I mean for it was worth $39 ...not $99/-

Look at the amount I paid. Now look at the work done. The plumber was competent however it must be noted that this service was completed as part of a "Big Deal" with $49 paid for a plumbing service call plus $100 towards services. So I get charged $334 for an hour of work (used my gasket and trap and nuts and his putty). Take off $100.....so I paid $234 in addition to the $50 I paid for the "coupon". Wow, $284 for an hour of work plus travel time from previous job (was in the next town over 10 minutes away). 7/31/14: Update-Company called me after reading review. Company reviewed case and stated that they believe the technician overcharged and/or did not understand the "big deal". Offered to send me a refund of $100 which would bring the price to $134 plus the $50 for the coupon I paid for for a total of $184, not the original $284. This will result in my changing my grade and overall experience to a "C" or fair. I appreciate the fact that they offered to do this....in a sense the best companies are human, filled with humans who do make mistakes and it takes a customer service oriented company to resolve problems amicably in this way. My recommendation to others (and to the company) is to have the plumbing technician or plumber give you an estimate of the fee before work begins. If I had known I would be charged $234 at the outset I would not have approved further work....had it been $134 and the tech said, well that is $234 but since you got the $100 off for a $50 coupon, your likely fee will be $134, I may have still raised my eyebrows but basically recognize this was in the range of what I would expect. That being said, I am not a big fan of deals that sound like this.....for X dollars, we will discount the overall job by 2X dollars as one never knows if the initial price is jacked up. It is far better to offer coupons, in my opinion that offer a specific service or range of services for a pre-negotiated fee...for example $150 for 60 minutes of plumbing service plus parts. Live and learn.

After purchasing the Angie's List Big Deal of the Day for a 20-point Air Conditioning Tune-up, the company called me within 24 hours of the purchase to schedule the service call. The technician showed up the next day and did an excellent job. The only negative to the deal was that I was given the opportunity to be put on a yearly service contract for my air-conditioning unit and they provided me with a price for the contract. The negative aspect of it was that I had to decide within minutes if I was interested because once the technician left the service call, the yearly contract price I was given was no longer an option for me. I may have signed a yearly service ontract, however, because I was told I had to decide at that moment or the offer was off the table, I declined their offer but would definitely use them again in the future when needed.

This is a review update. The technician was on time, courteous, and professional. I had concerns about the price of the deal which was supposed to be $99, but turned out to be around $250. The plumber said the increase was because our outdoor faucet was welded to the water pipe inside, so he had to replace a portion of the pipe as well as the faucet. After reading my review, McCarthy Services called me to explain the problem and that our setup was unusual. They were very concerned about my review and offered me a rebate for some of the extra cost. They were courteous and helpful. I believe the company to be honest and reliable and would use them again.

The plumber arrived 30 mins early, I was not home but he waited, it was first thing in the morning. He was pleasant but the first thing I noticed was his trouser fly was all the way down, how do you explain to someone they forget to do up their fly? Even my 16 year old son noticed it, I told him he should tell the plumber, man to man, he was too embarrassed to tell him too! He 'flew' through the repairs, finished the work in less than 30 mins. He charged me over $200!!! I questioned this, explaining his call out was covered by the $49.00 fee I'd paid Angies List and the repairs/parts could not have cost the $100.00 credit I was supposed to have towards repairs. He was adamant that the fee should have been over $300 but I got the $100.00 credit from Angies List. The parts in his 'parts book' told him the charges! Who was I to argue, I paid him his extortionate fee but it bothered me. I went online and checked the cost of the parts he used. Both parts he needed to repair the toilet handle and running toilet were under $10.00 total! I called the service representative in the main office and explained my dilemma. He agreed the fee seemed excessive and said he would check the 'ticket' when the plumber handed it in the next morning. I will say the service rep I dealt with was cordial and concerned. He called me back the next morning and told me I had been overcharged. He reduced my bill down to around $100.00. I informed him I still felt this was excessive. The plumber was working less than 30 minutes total and the parts were under $10.00 total. I couldn't understand why the fee was anything! I ended the call with this information but did not want to get into an argument so agreed to the extra fee. If this was the end I would be happy but later that day, this was the day after the work was done, I noticed the toilet was still running! I had to call them back. It would appear the previous days plumber had not spent enough time figuring out was was causing the leak, it was still a very simple solution but they had to return to fix it. Thankfully they did not charge me for the extra parts, which again I would guess were under $10.00. Again, if this was the end of it I'd be happy but the bathroom they increased the flow on the shower head has now developed a leak in the wall behind the shower head. This leak has been going on since the work was done. I have called McCarthy Services and am waiting for their service rep to get back to me. I have no idea how they are going to address this. The area behind the shower head faucet is a closet and as you can imagine the leak did not become apparent for a couple of weeks. We have no idea where else the leak can be coming from, the caulking and fixtures are all in perfect condition but my sons closet is now ruined, we will have to replace the rug in the whole bedroom and possibly have the wall in the closet removed to see if there's mould between the wall and shower head. This has turned into a nightmare! Just to add to this. McCarthy services revisited my home and repaired the leak into the bedroom from the bathroom to my satisfaction, it was not the shower head but was probably due to the increased pressure, That said, I am happy as the leak seems to be repaired.
Description of Work: I purchased an Angies List deal for $49.00 which included $100.00 of services as well as the call out. I needed the plumber to look at the handle workings of a toilet flush in our half bathroom, increase the water flow in the kitchen faucet, check the toilet in a bathroom that was constantly running. Increase the water flow/pressure in a shower head in a full bathroom.

It did not go well. I called with two specific tasks: repair a developing leak in the kitchen faucet and purchase and install a new pressure-triggered sump pump. The two-man team arrived on time but then began to sell me alternative solutions. Instead of repairing the faucet leak, they said it would be better to replace it with a "superior" one that had the sprayer and leaver built into the one unit. the fact that this would leave two holes in my granite (where the lever and spray are in the current faucet) did not seem to be a problem to them. I said I did not want the faucet replaced, just repaired. Then they said they do not carry pressure-triggered sump pumps but would sell me a float-triggered one. I said I specifically stated that I wanted a pressure-triggered pump and said no to their proposal for a float-triggered one; they said they would have to research where to get a pressure-triggered sump pump and get back to me. They said that it would be a flat-price fee of $310 (less the $100 coupon) to install the two springs and two washers in the kitchen faucet. I did not think that this was a bargain price but since I would have to rebook another plumber and pay a service call for another plumber to come out, I told them to do the repair. I should note that the repair took about 20 minutes due to a stuck set screw in the faucet; the work was adequate. I did call the company and asked to speak to a manager about the whole event. I told him that I was very specific with his order-taker about what I wanted and did not like trying to be sold alternatives. He replied that his receptionist was not technical and apparently did not understand the specifics of my order. With regard to the sump pump, he stated that they install float-triggered sump pumps because his company has to warranty the service and he does not feel comfortable warrantying triggers other than floats. With regard to the charge for the faucet repair, he said that was their standard flat charge and then asked me to specify a refund that would make me happy. I tried to be fair, considering the free service call outside of the calculation and said that I felt a refund of $60 would be fair. He said he would mail me the check and I received it about a week later. The service man did call a few days after the visit with a price on the pressure-triggered sump pump but I was not interested. In fairness, I should summarize that the work done was adequate and the manager did respond to my complaint. But I was specific in what I wanted and did not appreciate having to debate alternatives. I think that a $310 flat fee for a faucet repair is excessive and that repair does not take a two man team and neither does it take two plumbers to replace an existing sump pump. I was also frustrated at the whole process of Angie's list coupons where you must purchase the coupon and then find out the price of the service. In the future, I would contact the company involved, inquire about costs and fees and then decide whether I will purchase the coupon from Angie's List.

I took the day off to meet them, and waited for 4 hours for them to show (they never called or showed up)- the window of time they said they would arrive. I called them and they told me someone had already been there. They argued with me for 30 minutes about it, called the technician, got the manager on the line, and still didn't believe me. They tried to tell me that an Asian man let them in (I am not Asian, and I am a woman), and that the landlord ordered the service (I own- there is no landlord and I live there). They didn't believe me that I was neither an Asian man nor a landlord. I assume that they went to the wrong house. Who's house it was got a free AC tune up. It was all very unpleasant and not worth the $39. I asked them about a refund, and they told me to go through Angie's list.

The service was fine, they were good. They did the work. The thing that got me was that it always ends up costing you more. I paid $49 for a plumbing service to get my toilet installed, and there are always hidden costs. I ended up buying the toilet too, and the cost was $200 for that, but the service itself cost me $300. I asked them about the $49, and they told me that I get $100 credit. It was really confusing. It is frustrating, because it doesn't end up just being what I paid. They did the work well. I didn't like the surprise, they could be more upfront about what it will cost. They were certainly punctual and professional. They didn't do something, but they came back and corrected it for no charge.
