Description of Work: Replaced a toilet mechanism so it stopped running. He did the job but this really was no deal. It Said $49. Plus $100 credit. Do I did not expect it to cost over $200 just for this . It was a gimmick. The job was done but for what it was it cost way too much.

Description of Work: First it took a while to get an answer from the email I sent; claimed it was they were new to Angie's list process. They did accommodate the date that I needed (initially on a Saturday), but due to work reschedule, I was available earlier and they made the adjustment to my appointment. I called three times the day of the appointment to ensure that I was still on and the representative indicated that they would come between 1 and 5pm; after my third call, I found a voice message that they were confirming someone was home - really, after I called three times to let them know I was. Normally, when a window of time is given, you would expect that the service would be done within an hour or two off the start time or before the end time -- the serviceman literally showed up at 4:54pm. If I was the last appointment of the day, the reps I spoke to when I called three times that day could have at least indicated that. When the serviceman arrived, he indicated there would be a call fee of about $35. I explained that the deal I bought made no mention of that and that when I called to schedule it, I let them know I had an Angie's list deal --an no one told me about a call fee. I had asked what the estimated cost of the work was for looking at two low pressure sink faucets and on fixture that may be leaking; the rep on the phone said that I would have to wait for the serviceman to get the price quote. I was dumbfounded when the cost was estimated at almost $300 depending on the problem. Needless to say after going through the service, I found that the kitchen faucet may have been clogged with particles from an old water heater; build up on the sinks (which he cleared) and the cost of the leaky fixture was more than I was willing to pay for ($250+ for the one item). For the $100 worth of service that I received; I could have googled the problem on line and probably done it myself. I understand plumbing is expensive, but the pricing sheet I saw for estimates was ridiculous. The serviceman was polite, but new to the company and don't know that he would have been given the 'best service rep' label in my opinion. I wouldn't purchase this service again.

Description of Work: I bought the big deal on Angie's list to use towards getting a garbage disposal replaced. The service guy arrived to inform me that the flat price for the job was $295, and my deal was only worth $149, although it was advertised to be worth $200. Moreover a job that will take less than one hour?! I did the job myself, in under an hour.

Description of Work: We needed a fix for the protruding 2nd floor drain pipe to install a new toilet. The first plumber quoted $768 and cut the pipe a small amount above the floor. He installed the flange and the bowl. It wobbled terribly. He tried to shim it with cardboard and pennies. Then he said he needed to go and would be back the next day. He took $300 partial payment. He didn't come back. We called McCarthy to express our unhappiness. The second plumber fixed everything. He Charged $150 install our toilet. Then McCarthy charged the $764 for the original quote. We still need to Talk to them.

Work was done professionally but cost per faucet jobs was far greater than expected - for about one hour's work and cost of materials. Expected to pay something closer to half this amount. Could have done the job myself for one forth the amount but would have taken longer. So the Angie's list deal was not a deal at all. |
