Bought Angieslist deal for water heater flush. Scheduled an appointment on Monday. Plumber didnt show up during the window 10-2. At 2 he called asking if I still need the service. Also asked how much am I paying. Seems like $39 for the deal I purchased via Angieslist turned him off. He didnt show up even though I waited for 30 mins beyond the 4 hour window. When I called again to confirm his ETA, again asked for 30 more mins. So I cancelled the appointment and rescheduled it 3 days later. Got 4 - 8 window this time. Again same pattern. Plumber didnt show up. Wasted my evening and also frustrated that I couldn't reach out to Mccarthy. It seems in evening the calls go to some service center which are then forwarded to McCarthy in morning. These guys left bad taste and will not get my recommendation anymore. I got a phone call in morning and when I mentioned about this issue, they said some manager will call back. I have not received an phone call or sorry from them. This is the arrogance we are dealing with. Customer is left in dark and their business is stinking now!.

Recently we had McCarthy Services to replace 2 HVAC systems and a hot water heater for our home. From the sales person to the installation technicians, it was all professional. The sales person (Chris Quintana) was very polite and did not pressure us to sign a contract. He explained what could be done and gave us a excellent price to do the work (couldn't pass it up). The technicians (Tim, Ryan, Alex, Richard) arrived on time and they were very professional, organized, neat, cordial and customer friendly. Once everything was done, they walked us through all of their work explaining what was done and how everything works. They answered any questions we had and made sure we understood it's operations. Once all the work was done they made sure all work areas were clean and neat. Now we are waiting for one more day of 90 degrees to see how the units will perform. The hot water heater is great. Water is nice and hot at a lower setting, didn't realize how bad we needed a new one. We must say a job well done. Thanks Chris, Tim, Ryan, Alex and Richard

Work contracted 8/23/16; scheduled for 9/16/16 between 12-4. On the day of the appointment, I called at 10:30 to confirm. Dispatch said no problem. In the meantime, I received an email with a picture of the technician (nice touch) confirming appointment. 4:30-4:45 I call dispatch to see what time tech would arrive, as I had heard nothing. Was told I was not on schedule, but they would contact tech and get back to me. 5:02 I received call from Mr. H. McCarthy stating I was not on schedule, but he could get someone out at approximately 7:30 pm, if I still wanted work performed. I agreed. Sunday. No technician, no call. I called another plumber from Angie's List and the work is being done as requested. I am requesting a refund. 10:37 Saturday I received call from Mr. H. McCarthy asking if tech showed up. Since he did not, he said he could have someone do the work Sunday, between 8-10. I agreed.

The service they provide is perfectly adequate. They do a good job. Routine maintenance is important. The workers are just fine. There are no problems with their clean-up.
Description of Work: We use McCarthy Services. We have an annual service contract with them. So, they come out and service our heating system every winter and air conditioning every summer.

Not well. The repairman first went to the wrong address. The repairman informed me that his company did not generally work on the type of unit (P-TAC) that I had, although I had described the unit on the telephone when I made the appointment. When I asked about the replacement of the unit, he call his boss and, since he had put the call on speakerphone, I heard the boss say that it was not worth their time and made up a quote of $4,000 to replace the unit. (Subsequent estimates were in the $1,000-2,600 range.)

McCarthy (via Home Depot) installed a new Rheem variable speed furnace (75K btu) and two-stage 17-SEER AC unit. Both the furnace and AC are Econet enabled. Jeremy and Matt spent 14 hours at my house on a Friday in 100 degree heat to install the new system in my attic. They arrived on time, clearly explained how the day would proceed, and answered all of my questions. Note that they expected the installation to take about 10 hours. It took longer due mostly to the need to upgrade one of the return vents due to an incorrect calculation by the sales person (explained below). After installation, it turned out that the new Rheem indoor coil had a defective (TSV) sensor, which could not be discovered until post-installation testing of the system. Since it was 10 pm on a Friday, the new part would not be able to be installed until Monday morning. Needless to say, after spending over $7000 on this new system, I was ******. Jeremy and Matt contacted their manager Dave, who promptly offered to provide portable AC units in my upstairs bedrooms to get us through the weekend. The units arrived and were set up by Saturday afternoon and worked great. Dave, the installation manager, also offered to replace the entire coil instead of just the defective sensor. He assured me (and provided visual confirmation on Monday) that the new coil would be the same quality as the existing coil installed at the factory (and not some cheaper knock off or lesser grade replacement coil). Dave himself came on Monday and successfully installed the new coil. Dave stayed an extra 90 minutes to ensure the charge for the r-410 refrigerant was correct. Everyone at McCarthy was very professional and courtesy. My one complaint is the sales person did not properly calculate the CFM's on my return vents for my existing system despite returning to do so a second time prior to installation. It turned out that his calculations were off, and one of my return ducts needed to be upgraded (which is the main reason the initial installation took so long (Jeremy had to request a new flex duct and grill which was not anticipated). I measure a company by how they handle and remedy mistakes and fix things that go wrong. McCarthy did an excellent job remedying a defective part from the Rheem factory. I would definitely use McCarthy again and highly recommend the guys named above.
Description of Work: The attic AC/Furnace needed replacement. The house was built with builder grade (Goodman) equipment and had reached the end of its life expectancy.

I think they were right on time. They put the garbage disposal in the wrong place. It goes down into the garbage disposal then goes across and then goes down the other side. It is two sided.

It went great. John Tomlingson went above and beyond with the estimate and scheduling and Hamid and Alex were great. We had some issues with wiring and these gentlemen stayed until 11:00 pm to make sure we had AC in the early summer heat. I HIGHLY recommend these guys for purchasing and installing your unit. They were true professionals and a pleasure to work with.

It went fine. I didn't have any problem. After it was installed, he told me that it had a six year warranty and I was disappointed in that because I paid $1400 to have the water heater installed. I think I should have received a water heater that had a better guarantee.

I've had a lot of work with them, some good some bad. They were here in March, 2016. I had a new HVAC system them awhile ago so it was part of the package. If I was actually charged for it then it would be expensive but since I have the deal with them it is good.

We have had mixed experiences with them, and we just cancelled our contract with them yesterday. They had one guy that was fantastic, and we would only have him come to our house, and he left the company, his name is Gary. We have had other people come to our house, and we are not happy. They misdiagnosed a problem that we had and we ended up spending a fortune on fixing something that didn't need to be fixed. McCarthy was very good at refunding us the money when they realized it was their error. I would say McCarthy is a reputable, and honest company and has integrity. I just think their service technicians are hit or miss, if you get a good one then it is all good, if not then it is bad.

Actually we've had very mixed experiences with them and we just cancelled our contract with them yesterday. They had one guy that was fantastic and we would only have him come to our house and he left the company. I don't know why. We have used several other people and we are not happy. We only have our unit serviced twice a year unless there is a problem so I would say in the last six months he left. He was great. We would have kept our contract if he hadn't left.

Lady in the office set the appointment up quickly. Plumber was here within two hours after my call. Toilet was leaking from tank to bowl. Plumber was here less than ten minutes. $150. Really obscenely overpriced. Shame on me for not knowing how to do minor plumbing repairs.

Short version: BEWARE THE UP-SELL.... It is worse than going to a car dealership Long Version: I purchased my home in August of 2013. I was very lucky to have purchased from responsible homeowners and was provided with all of the records for the appliances in my home including the HVAC system. As it turns out the current HVAC system was originally installed by McCarthy Services and the prior owners had a service contract with them. Prior to my purchase the AC broke down and the prior owners contacted McCarthy to do the repair. They signed up for the service contract at that time because the service contract qualifies you for a discount on repairs and the fall heat check was completed after the AC was repaired. In the spring I called McCarthy to come out and complete the AC check and the technician that came out was nice, professional and I had no issues. At that time he tried to get me to renew but did not put too much pressure on me and I ended up forgetting about it. Then in 2015 I decided that I should have a service contract on the unit since it is getting older (15 years old to be exact). I ended up going with McCarthy because they had installed the unit and the tech I met in 2014 was nice so I figured why not.... I really wish I would have picked a different company. My expectation with a service contract is that they come and inspect and clean the unit twice a year and make recommendation based on things that are going wrong and nothing more. The technician that completed my fall heat check was again very nice and professional BUT at the end of the visit he tried to upsell me. He said that since my unit was 15 years old that it was inefficient and needed to be replaced. I was also informed that my humidifier was broken and I could replace it for $900. Sorry guys but I am not going to replace a humidifier on a 15 year old system for $900, that would be dumb and its not that important. Anyways, I was incredibly upset and called customer service requesting a manager call back. No one called me back until about 2 or 3 months later. I am pretty busy so I forgot about it. The lady I did speak with was nice and said she would make sure to send a different technician next time. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago when I get a phone call from them to schedule my AC check for the spring. The tech, a different guy, came out today to do the AC check. He was timely and professional but I was supposed to get a call 30 minutes prior and that never happened. Anyways everything was fine until the end of the visit when he pulls out the recommendations. Luckily he didn't tell me that my system was old and inefficient and needs to be replaced. Instead I was told that I needed a drain stop for $225 and a surge protector for $225 for the inside unit. Again he recommended a new humidifier for $900. He also recommended a Hard Start for the outdoor unit for $243. Ok but wait a second, if I really needed all of this why didn't the other guy recommend them in the fall and why weren't they part of the original installation.. seems a little fishy. BUT WAIT, the kicker is that he also recommended a Air Scrubber for, wait for it... $1,298.00. Hmm, so what exactly is an air scrubber. HE COULDN'T TELL ME. All he had was a flier that spouts off a bunch of statistics. It doesn't even describe what it looks like or where it goes. It turns out that it is an air purification system. I never said anything about needing an air purification system nor did a request a quote for one so why in the world would that be a recommendation. It is absolutely ridiculous and right after he left I called the office. I requested to speak with the service manager. I was told that the quality assurance manager was away from her desk but that they would give her a message to call me back right away. Umm, yeah, no call so far. Right away means within the same business day in my world and here it is after hours. Stay away from this company, I know that I definitely will going forward.

I purchased a whole house humidifier for our new home, thinking I would have no problem installing it. I was right, the job was pretty straightforward. However, I've never been comfortable with wiring anything more complex than a light switch. I called around to a number of Angie's List rated providers to see if they would mind coming in behind me and wiring the unit after I completed the vent work and plumbing; most told me they won't work on customer provided/installed equipment. I found this to be a little insulting. I understand the issue of liability, but I wasn't asking for a warranty on the work I did, much less the humidifier itself. I simply wanted a pro to make sure the wiring (which if done wrong can bring your whole furnace down) was done right. The folks at McCarthy didn't even skip a beat when I explained my situation. They sent a tech (Marshall) out to survey the situation and he helped me determine the best location to mount the various components and dutifully answered all my questions. We agreed that I would take the weekend to do the basic install (mounting the unit, doing the duct work and plumbing) and he would come back out Monday to wire it up. All went as planned and Marshall did a quick and thorough job. Everything is working great and the house is a comfortable 40% RH! No more static shocks or dry throats! PS. Go Cards!

He was quick and friendly. He cleaned up after himself. While he was here I did ask him if he would take a look at a toilet and sink in my bathroom and give me an estimate for repairs. He agreed and verbally gave me some estimates for repairing running toilet and fixing a broken sink handle. He took pictures so that he could look up fixtures later and get back to me with a specific quote for repair. He never called - this was a missed opportunity for the company to have a repeat customer.

I had a service contract with them. The service contract costs about $300 a year. Last fall they came out and told me I needed a new furnace and they would be glad to sell me a new furnace. I went out and got bids. Everybody that came out told me I did not need a new furnace. That's why I stopped doing business with this company. Their quality was good until that point. Their responsiveness was always very good. They were always very responsive. I am done dealing with McCarthy.
