Description of Work: They were a life saver. I was getting ready to leave town and had a dogsitter coming to stay overnight at my house when I noticed that my front door deadbolt just wouldn't budge and I couldn't open the door. It worked the night before so I wasn't sure what had happened. I called another well-known company first but they were too busy to come the same day when I noticed a review by someone saying they were fed up with a larger company and decided to call Spencers. I called them and said I needed to have it fixed by 2 p.m. (I had a flight to catch). They arrived in about 2 hours from my call and fixed the lock. I think the service call was about $50 higher than normal but that was just fine. If the lock hadn't been fixed, it would've been a big inconvenience for the person walking my two dogs b/c she would have had to go out the basement door. I would definitely use Spencers again.

Description of Work: We had a front door handle that was falling off the door, but we didn't want to replace it because it was original to our old house. The locksmith helped get it working again perfectly. Also, we had a top lock that my husband installed that was loose and difficult to work. He got it seated correctly, then determined that our keys were actually bad copies and they were making things worse. He cut new keys for us from the original (using key cutter in his truck).

+ -1 moreRich called ahead and arrived on time. Replaced front door hardware, including setting the lock, in less than 5 minutes. He was polite and professional. I thought that $70 for the service call PLUS $50 to set the lock was way overpriced. The $25 and $35 rekey charges seem entirely arbitrary and high. I don't know how expensive other companies are, but I wish I'd called around a bit more before scheduling with them. The Angie's List coupon saved me 10% off the total but I just spent $193.50 for less than 30 minutes' work. I would love to make $400/hour; maybe I'll become a locksmith.
Description of Work: Changed outside hardware on front door including setting the pins for the deadbolt. ($70 for the service call + $50) Rekeyed a doorknob lock that had its original key. ($25) Rekeyed a doorknob lock that did not have its original key. ($35) Reyeyed a deadbolt lock that did not have its original key. ($35)

+ -1 moreScheduling was easy and the locksmith was friendly, professional, and polite. He arrived approximately 20 minutes after the scheduled time, but considering the distance traveled at the end of the day (against traffic) it's understandable. He performed the work in approximately 45 minutes, the majority of which was spent in his truck re-keying the cylinders and cutting new keys. He noticed that the deadbolt on the front door wasn't flipping as smoothly as it should be, so he broke out a dremel and did some routing. I didn't ask for this nor did I expect it, so kudos to him for taking a few minutes to go above and beyond.
Description of Work: Re-keying of 3 doors (5 cylinders) with 6 new keys.
