Guirkin Plumbing & Heating

Because of poor construction design by my builder, Guirkin had problems running the line from the meter to under the house but came up with an acceptable option. They were always punctual, courteous, considerate and explained what they were doing. I enjoy working with service personnel who take the time to make sure I understand everything and Guirkin delivered on that expectation.

Guirkin's Tech came out and told me that I needed to replace the main line from the Chesterfield County meter to my home. I told the Tech that the County man told me the leak was just on the other side of the meter but the Tech told me that it appeared to him that it was leaking further back and that he recommended that I replace the whole main line. He gave me a written estimate of $2450.00. I told him I would let him know but that I felt compelled to get a 2nd opinion. After he left I looked at the area again and it was pretty clear to me that the leak was just on the other side of the meter. I called in another Company. I explained over the phone what was going on but I did not tell him that Guirkin had already looked at it and recommended a complete new main line. He told me over the phone that he had fixed hundreds of these problems and in almost every instance it was caused by a plastic connector at the meter that would deteriorate over time and leak. When he arrived on the scene he felt certain that was the issue. Sure enough, when he dug up the area on my side of the meter the plastic connector had failed and that was what caused the leak. He replaced the plastic connector with a brass connector and that solved the problem. My total cost was $348.00 for parts and labor. I feel certain that the Guirkin Tech tried to rip me off. He should have at least gone to the "trouble" of confirming what was leaking. All he had to do would be to dig down a couple of feet and check out the connector. If this other plumbing company has fixed hundreds of these same issues over the years then the Guirkin Tech should have been in a position to know what the probable cause of the leak was. In fact he told me he had 20 years experience as a plumber and had to know that he was recommending a repair that was not necessary and would cost over $2000.00 more to solve the problem. I will never call Guirkin again. Beware.

They were okay. The guy came out and didn't see what the problem was right at the beginning. When he started doing the work, he did a bunch of other stuff and then he tried to say it was a service call. If he would have recognized something at the very beginning of when he started the work then he wouldn't have had to do anything. They wanted to charge us for the service call and didn't want to give us our money back so they said they would just credit us from next year to have free service call. The service cost was more than what we expected it to be and I thought it was high for this area as well too just for a service call to come out. Usually they are about fifty or seventy five bucks and think this guy was like ninety something for a service call. We didn't know why it wasn't working. We just recently purchased a home last March and we hadn't tried to use the fireplace because of course it was warm. When we tried it wasn't working because the people before us didn't pay the gas company and they put a lock on it. We could use it until we paid and I didn't know that. The guy came out and did a whole bunch of stuff and came inside and cleaned up some stuff. He blew out the air lines and then went outside and checked a couple of things but couldn't find what was wrong and then said there was a lock on it. I went out there and solved the lock on it and he wouldn't have had to all the other stuff and charge us the service call. My wife called the office and the owner sounded like he didn't want to give us our money back. He wanted to keep the money and just give us a service for next year. I think they missed one appointment as well and had to come back. I will use them next year but after that I will not use them.

Woke on a Sunday morning to strange sounds in the laundry room which we identified as water leaking under the house. I did a search on Angie's List and ended up choosing Guirkin Plumbing & Heating. The after-hours call person took our basic info and we had a return call in a few minutes. We described the problem and the Guirkin rep said he would dispatch a technician and call us when we were in route. Return call came and the technician arrived in under an hour. The guys that came were professional and knocked the job out quickly (under 2 hours). They also advised us that the main water line coming into the house was getting brittle (not surprising as the pipe is probably 25+ years old) and that we may want to consider replacing it in the future. For a unscheduled, Sunday morning job, I found the price to very reasonable. I will use them again and would recommend Guirkin without any reservations.

I liked that they were very positive. They were installing a unit that I did not purchase from them. The company I bought the unit from went out of business. They came and had no problem with installing this insert. They did a great job. I was very happy with them. I remember that they were hassle free. I would use them again in the future.

They did a wonderful job working on my gas furnace! They also did a great job working on our toilet.

I’m very pleased with Guirkin. I’ve used them to replace the heater, maintained the air conditioner and the water heaters, as well as replace a toilet. I’ve used them for years, and will likely continue to in the future as well as recommend them to others. I don’t typically price around because I’m satisfied with their rates. They’re very personable, kind, I feel safe having them in my home, and they always send a thank-you note. Again, highly recommended.

It went very well! They provided the Kohler toilet and I’ve had no issues at all since the installation. This was the first time I had used them, and I would use them again in the future as well as recommend them to others. The price was reasonable, especially considering that they supplied the unit and installed it. They showed up within 5-10 minutes of when they said they would, as well.

They are the best anyone could hope for! Anytime we call, we always ask for Adam Lucas because he’s fantastic (although I’m sure everyone there is fine)! They do such a great job on the maintenance and installation, and they’re just the best around. They could not be better – I wouldn’t call anyone else. He’s quite a gentleman, too. As soon as Adam leaves, I always call the office to let them know that he’s so good.

I like Guirkin, and it went well. I’ve used them three or four times, and I would use them again in the future as well as recommend them to others. I haven’t had any issues with the faucets since they did the work.

We have two gas fireplaces that have not worked in a few years which we hadn't bothered with until the recent bitter cold spell. (When the fireplaces first stopped working about 4 years ago, I had called another provider who specializes in gas fireplaces, and short version of the long story, our fireplaces weren't working again the day after their "repair".) I called Guirkin mid-morning and at first, they said they couldn't get to us until Monday, but then they realized they would have someone in the area for another job and said they would stop by sometime that afternoon. He arrived around 4:15 and quickly got the first fireplace started. He explained the reasons the pilot light may go out, including stating that they do eventually require replacement. He took down the model and serial numbers for both fireplaces to have on record for Guirkin and for us in case we start having problems again and need replacement. (So far both are still working fine. ) The upstairs fireplace had been turned off with the key (which I do not recall us doing, but apparently we had for some reason 4 or more years ago). I couldn't find the key, so he used pliers to turn it back on. Then he messed with the pilot light for several minutes and made some other adjustments, and it was working in about half an hour. He was here for just a little over an hour. He seemed very knowledgeable about gas fireplaces, providing a complete answer for every question I had. He also offered other recommendations, for example, using steel wool around the hole where the gas line comes in to stop some of the draftiness and to keep out mice. Overall, I was very satisfied and will be using Guirkin again in the future, particularly for yearly care and maintenance on our gas fireplaces as well as our heating and cooling systems.

Guirkin has been our provider of HVAC service for about 6 years. They also sold, installed and serviced gas logs. I have had no complaint with their service technicians who were prompt and did great work. My reason for not using this company anymore has to do with a "sales call". One of our heat pumps was at the end of its usefulness (losing Freon) and we wanted to replace it. When I called to get an estimate, the manager refused to do the estimate over the phone or in written format through the mail; he insisted on doing it in person. When I could, I called back to make an appointment. Once again, I got a refusal for a set time appointment - all I was offered was a window of time, just like a service call. When I pointed out I was requesting a sales call, not a service call, he would not budge. In fact, I was told that unless I accepted the window of time, there "was nothing he could do for me". I agreed. It's sad, because the service technicians were very good and I appreciated their years of work. We contacted two other companies for estimates and neither of these representatives could believe my story (I did not mention the name of Guirkin). We now have a new heat pump, new air handler, and duct work sealed, at a very reasonable price.

Apparently is not interested in business. This was an after hours call, but received no call back to advise of availabilit.

They arrived the the same day I called and arrived at the time they promised. They were friendly and explained everything thoroughly. They even checked our other toilet to make sure it was ok. It turned out we only had a problem with the one. I will also have them out next spring for our air conditioning replacement.

Told that we were scheduled for the morning and we arranged our workday accordingly. at 10:30 we called them and were told they could not make visit until the afternoon. Unacceptable for those of us who work...

Plumber arrived on time for appointment, evaluated problems I showed him, fixed problems, cleaned up after work was done. All was done professionally.

Called Guirkin and described problem and requested approximate cost to clear the drain, but was only given the cost for service call. Plumber came on time and was able to quickly solve the problem using my own garden hose and a "special" nozzle he attached to the drain pipe under the sink. I asked him to look at a drain in upstairs bathroom because it was draining very slowly. He was able to clear the tub and sink drains in just a few minutes. Total time on-site was less than an hour. Cost of service was $250, which I considered ridiculously high. When I protested, he said I was very lucky and that he could have charged me much more. PROS: Punctual and effective. CONS: Extremely over-priced. Will not call them again.

Guirkin sent someone out the same day I called to assess the issue (on a Tuesday), but were unable to come back out to actually replace the leaking bathtub faucet assembly until Friday. Since I had explained what was wrong when I called to make the appointment, I was disappointed that they weren't able to address the repair that same day, or schedule a follow up appointment sooner than 3-days later since they were very quick in sending someone out to assess the issue and collect the flat fee that they charge for that. When they came back to replace the bathtub faucet assembly, they arrived on-time and the work was quality.

It went very well. They were fast, punctual, and professional. They did a great job.

It went very smoothly. The plumber was very friendly and competent.

They responded very quickly, performed quality work. The only negative I can say is I was qouted 150.00 to hook up new dishwasher ended up costing 250.00.

After realizing that our 62 year old pipe had broken behind the wall and found that water was leaking into our crawlspace, we contacted Guirkin Plumbing first thing on Monday morning and spoke with Tommy Guirkin. We were told that they would have someone out that afternoon, and then we received a call from them saying that they had an opening and their crew would be right over. It wasn't very long before they showed up analyzed the problem and presented the solution. It was found that it would be best to replace the line from the sink to the main drain and to bring up the new drain through the bottom of the sink cabinet, and that would do so much better than trying to tear into the wall. After we agreed to the repair, a time was set for 7:30 am the next morning. Their crew, Marty and Andy showed up exactly at 7:30 and began their work and got everything completed within a few hours. Everything was explained as to what was done, and they were great to have do the work for us. Both were very professional and courteous and we had zero worries about the quality of the work that was done. Excellent crew! When we ever need to get any other plumbing done in our house it certainly we be Guirkin that gets the job. It is a pleasure to do business with a company that follows through on their word, has a great team working for them, and gives the customer relief in knowing that things will be done right, and done right the first time. They did an excellent job. They very carefully cut the sheet rock so it will be easier to patch. They were clean, efficient and friendly.

I just joined Angie's List and have been distraught ever since Guirkin provided service to my home. Our cul-de-sac experienced a broken water line and the County inadvertently backwashed silt into our home's water system, pipes, etc. We had damage to all of our faucets/toilets/drains and Guirkin was hired to do the repairs. They were prompt and I received a lovely note from Mr. Guirkin. HOWEVER, the gentleman who came to fix the issues actually did not fix all of the issues. He has to return a second time since the kitchen faucet stopped working and none of the flow screens (don't know if that is what they are actually called) on any sink had been replaced properly. After the second visit, the flow screens upstairs still did not work and the next day none of the screens were working on the downstairs sinks were working properly. I did not call a third time - the gentleman who arrived each time was filthy and I could not bring myself to clean up after him a third time. I was so upset. To date, I have been too scared to call someone to repair my faucets which still do not have proper working directional screens.

My husband called Guirkin on a Saturday and received a prompt call back. An appointment was made for the following Monday, and Andy and Marty came out that day and assessed the situation. Our gas log set was old and couldn't be repaired. Guirkin had a set of the replacement logs that we wanted in stock, so Andy and Marty came back the next day to install them. They were prompt, professional, knowledgable, and courteous. They answered all my questions and concerns. They also took great care to leave their work area spotless. I would not hesitate to use Guirkin's services in the future and recommend them highly.
