I used Cather furniture for a repair to an all wood antique rocker in 2012. I had no issues with their service. When the same chair required more work (broken back support, loose arms), I called them again. I was assured the piece was worth repairing and would be easily, if not cheaply, repaired. The chair was picked up at my home on 10/17/14. I was told it would take at least 6 weeks to repair. When I had heard nothing by the middle of January, I called to inquire. I spoke to a repair person who told me he didn't have names on any of the repair items and told me to describe it. He then told me "It looks like it just needs some touch up stain." I asked him to take my number and please have the owner call me. He did so as if it was an inconvenience to him. The owner called back a few hours later and said that he had an accident at Thanksgiving and "hadn't gotten around to calling people." I said, o.k., when will it be ready? He said next week, and by the way, you weren't planning on using the rocker for every day, were you? I said yes, I was. He responded that it really wasn't sturdy enough for daily use. I asked why I had been told that it could be repaired for full use and he deflected the question. I did not hear back from him for 2+ weeks. Today, I received a call from another person (no name provided) who said that he had stopped by my house to try and drop off my chair -- no advance notice. He asked someone in my home for my phone number, because he didn't have it on the ticket, only my address. We made arrangements for him to drop off the chair this evening. The chair was delivered as promised and does not seem sturdy enough for every day use. It also has a strong smoky smell to it and this is a non-smoking house, so it is quite unpleasant. Again, there is no fabric on this chair so it is the wood which has absorbed the smoke smell in the nearly 4 months it was being repaired. I will not be using Cather again, which is unfortunate for them as I have several more items in need of repair.

There were three places in the base of the table that needed to be repaired. As a result the final cost was $825 instead of the ball park figure of $600-650 that we had discussed. Mr Cather called to let me know that more breaks had been found, and I told him to go ahead with the work. I decided not to have the table refinished, asking that he simply "clean it up a bit." The table was delivered in beautiful condition! ( their pick up and delivery was free of charge). This is a family business and I had personal contact with Mr. Cather's son and daughter, who were most helpful and careful in handling my table.

Lovely workmanship. I could not be more pleased. The pickup and delivery service Cather offers will allow me to have several more pieces of furniture refinished.

They did an amazing job on all the pieces, professionally done, delivered when promised and price was what was agreed upon.

All interactions were as promised and on time. The chairs look better than new. Also finished with product that will protect then for the future. I was EXTREMELY pleased.

Couldn't be more pleased. Have to say this was an incomparable bargain compared to getting new furniture. The bedroom set is 26 years old and looks like it just came out of the factory. The oak dining table had numerous gouges, now it is refinished like new. The cedar chest looks wonderful. Just a real pro, meticulous workmanship and highly recommended for any furniture refinishing -- also he can give you good insights on furniture as well.

Mr. Cather explained that furniture companies tend to use less expensive cuts of non solid wood to make the rails of beds. You could see that one was actually five plies of wood glued together and had split and come loose right where the hardware hooks into the foot / head board. So he suggested that he had another contact that could make new rails out of solid wood and use the old hardware from the old rails so they matched up. Between himself, the person who actualy made the rails and his staff they did a beautiful job of matching the stain and finish and the price was more than fair for the work provided. I will definatly be using and recommending Mr. Cather's Furniture Service in the future for other jobs.

I forget how we found him, but we used him throughout our 15 years in Richmond. Literally, at the last minute before we moved, he repaired one more set of furniture in time to get on the moving van. We will miss him.
