Cather's Furniture

We were extremely pleased with the workmanship. I did not rate for responsiveness because we were in no hurry to have the work done due to other ongoing remodling in the our house and so we told them to take their time. Nevertheless, when I went to get it, they did a superior job and were standing by to help me wrap it (it was raining) and get it loaded safely in my pickup truck. The piece is an antique oak mantel that is very complex. It had been previously refinished with a polyurathane and had some damage (screw holes and some broken wood carving) everything was stripped bare, repaied and refinished with high quality materials. All the previous damage was repaied and made invisable unless you know exactly where to look for it. We were very impressed with the work and would recommend Cather’s very highly. The picture shows the mantle where I will be putting it, but I have not yet installed it.

We had 2 old doors from the turn of the century coated with led paint. I can't say enough regarding the time they spent on the details. The results were fabulous. They take pride in their work and it shows!

We thought the owner was very professional, friendly and honest. He did what was promised and was respectful our home.

Very well for the chair repair. I had an issue with the finish on the side table because it apparently wasn't completely "cured" (or whatever it might be called) and they didn't tell me to keep things off of it for awhile. The bottom of candleholders and lamp that I placed on it made marks that I cannot get off.

Fast turnaround time; careful explanation of work needed and estimated costs; faster than anticipated turnaround time. Excellent communication.

Excellent. The owner is a very nice man, quite enthusiastic about his work. The chairs were delivered today, earlier than I was expecting them to be ready. The chairs look gorgeous; he did a magnificent job.

I was most impressed with the quality of the work. I have several other pieces that I plan to have him restore.

The came out and assessed the job and gave me a price. I had misplaced 1 chair so they took the 5 and fixed them. When they returned those five they took the 6th chair and did fix it. The were very pleasant to work with and the chairs were completed faster then anticipated.

These people were the best. They did the work precisely the way I wanted it to be done: cleaned up yet leaving all the character of the original antique pine (1870's Irish). Their work was perfect. Mr. Cather is a delightful man and it was a pleasure having him in my home for the free pickup and delivery. I wouldn't hesitate to use him again and I recommend him without reservation to anyone who needs furniture restoration.

Superb workmanship coupled with excellent and prompt delivery

We were extremely pleased with all the work. they did. Everything turned out better than we expected. Prices were reasonable and service was prompt. We felt that Mr. Cather really cares about doing the best job possible.

It went great! Mr. Cather was on time to the appointment. He explained what he needed to do to repair the furniture and the costs involved and promised to have it all back in 10 days. Sure enough 10 days later he returned the furniture and it looked great. I really appreciate his promptness and the quality of the work done.

On day of estimate/pickup, I made it VERY clear that my main reason for hiring and paying for service was to have the table extension mechanisms repaired, or replaced if not repairable. If that could be done, I would have the whole set refinished. Table was returned not repaired (only tightened up a little, but still not secure.) Table was returned to shop for more work on this, but only thing done was some moving of the wood braces that the mechanism was made of. It is still unacceptable. I was told by Mr. Cather that my dining set was not high-quality furniture, and they were not able to do more with it. I wish they had told me this before charging this much money to have it refinished and repaired. I could have bought a whole new set for the money I paid. (It is solid oak, and has held up very well for over 36 years.) The replacement caining is not well done--was loose at the bottoms right away because cut too short and not firmly attached at bottom of chairs. Staining does not match oak finish--is much too light, but they said this was best they could do. Staining of oak dining set and coffee table is lighter than original and no longer exactly matches buffet that is part of the set (but was not refinished because it is still in perfect condition.) A drawer from the buffet was taken to shop for matching. Table top that was perfectly flat before, is slightly warped so the extensions do not fit flat near the sides when installed into the table top. Also the extensions were taken back in to the shop for redo, since stain color did not match table top and finish was different (not as shinny.) As for timing, my furniture was picked up by Cather's 9/12/14. After several calls to them, it was finally returned 11/6/2014 (almost 2 months.) Table extensions were taken back to shop at that time for correction. By 11/21/2014 the extensions were not returned, so I called, and I also continued to complain about the table extension mechanisms. They agreed to pick up the table on 11/24/14 for more work, but it was not picked up and I did not even get a call to cancel. On 12/11/2014 I called to arrange for myself to pick up the extensions and I asked for some refund. But it was arranged for the table to be picked up 12/15/2014. I was away over the holidays, and the table was returned in January. That is when I was told that nothing more would be done and that my furniture was not high quality. The Cather's people were all friendly and nice from the beginning, and I have told Angie's List over and over that I did not want to leave any feedback on this business, but they persist in asking me almost every week, to leave feedback. So here it is. My advice to anyone planning to get their wood furniture refinished, is to just buy something new.

From initial estimate, the communication and repair was flawless. Furniture was repaired and returned on time as promised. Quality of work outstanding. I will use Cather's again.

Did great job took longer than was told but job was really done well very happy with results

Excellent service--pickup and delivery went very well, as they took great care to protect the furniture and our house. The refinishing work was outstanding also. The work done was absolutely beautiful, and the customer service was just as good as their craftsmanship. I highly recommend these folks!

It went well they did a great job and it looks brand new. There were repairs that needed to be done and they stripped and refinished it and it looks really nice.

Cather's Furniture did a beautiful job of bringing the wicker rocking chair that was in my son's nursery in 1984 back to its glory. When the rocker was picked up, I was shown where repairs were needed in case I wanted that done before any painting. I received the repair estimate during our conversation and then the rocker went into their capable hands. When it was delivered back to me my son was visiting. He exclaimed that it looked brand new and it did. I will joyfully refer business to Cather's and I offer deep appreciation for the care they took of a precious piece of my life.

Upon purchasing an Angie's List Deal, John Cather promptly contacted me and set up an appointment for pick up of the table. His sons arrived at the appointed time and explained everything in detail, including the fact that the table would be returned in about 4 weeks. They were courteous and friendly. Two weeks after pickup, John called to say the table was finished and explained what was used in the process. The table looks great! Cather's Furniture Service certainly provides quick and excellent service.

This is an outstanding family business. They did an excellent job restoring and painting an old piece of furniture. These guys are professional and friendly and just did an excellent job.

My father's secretary had a crack on its side so severe that I had considered giving up on it. Likewise I had an antique chair with a great deal of sentimental value that had no tight joints. I called Cather's because of a Deal and was pleased from the first telephone conversation. They gave recommendations but no pressure. They restored both pieces and returned them today. Both are tight and in wonderful condition, but neither looks like it has been "fixed" and the finish is just right. These folks are very, very good at what they do and I look forward to working with them in the future.

From the first phone call, to the estimate and delivery of the refinished pieces, they were easy to work with and seemed knowledgeable about the antique pieces that I have. They arrived at my home promptly, gave me an estimate, took the pieces that needed work, and called to schedule delivery when they were done. I ended up giving them more chairs to repair when they returned.
