I live in Connectict, my almost 80 year-old mom in Henrico. She needed help with her yard that I couldn't do myself. Mike Pugh promptly returned my phone call requesting an estimate for the work needed. Within the next couple of days he went to her house and got back to me with an estimate. The work was scheduled for this week and sure enough, he stopped by late Monday afternoon to tell my mom his crew would be there the next morning. The three guys that showed up were polite, did good work and finished today as scheduled. What's not to like? I highly recommend this business. Stephen
Description of Work: Over the last 2 days, these guys turned my mom's rather neglected yard back to into something that looks well tended.

I needed mulch delivered and spread on a hill in my backyard. The only way to access the area was by wheel barrel from the street. This would be a" back breaking" job and I feel for anyone having to do this regardless of paying for the services. I called Mike and I described the job and sent pictures so there would me no surprises. He was very professional and appreciated the heads up. We agreed on a date as I was flexible and we even delayed a day due to rain. Mike contacted me on the day and gave me the approximate time of arrival which I truly appreciated. Alex and Kirby arrived right on time. These gentleman were very polite and professional . The job was complete by the time I returned from work. I was surprised because of the difficulty of the job. The hill looks beautiful and I will use Mike and his team again.

We double core aerated (went over in two different directions) the lawn. Also, we seeded many areas twice. This member had rather a large yard and probably was beyond the 10K square feet, but we did not charge extra. We traded over 20 messages on Angie's List regarding the work and I followed up each message within one business day. I take pride in the quality of work we do and make sure it is done by the 'book' We use Southern Lawn Maxx when completing Aeration/Seeding at a rate of 5/6 lbs per 1000 square feet. Southern Lawn Maxx is a tall fescue blend that is powered by a patented Performance Seed Treatment process. The Oregon certified, Virginia/Maryland approved varieties are treated with proprietary blends of nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, fulvic and humic acids, kelp, phosphites, and micro nutrients. Southern Lawn Maxx has been tested and provides the applicator the opportunity to provide less water and fertilizer, yet the grass will provide more color and longer roots. In three independent trials, Southern Lawn Maxx outperformed traditional straight tall fescue by 40% quicker germination while using 30% less nitrogen and phosphorous. Please keep us in mind for future landscape jobs, Mike Pugh

Commonwealth landcare came out and over seeded my lawn when I wasn't home because there was a misunderstanding, but all is ok now. They are very nice and generous and I would use their services again. They came out a couple of days ago and put down a weed inhibitor for free just because I didn't provide them with a phone number. In actuality, it was my fault in the beginning for not providing a number for them to call me. Thank you Commonwealth Lawncare.
Description of Work: They came to the house when I wasn't here, they postponed the service once and were going to do it again until I told them, if they have to rescheduled me again to just give me a refund. The man sent me another e-mail saying he would be here, but never apologized and never called me on the phone. It was brought to my attention that I never provided the manager with my phone number, so that's on me. He has since made it all right by applying a weed inhibitor to my lawn. I am completely satisfied as this was all a misunderstanding and lack of communication at the start. We have since remedied to problem.

List of work completed over 2.5 days with three guys 1. Removed grass from around the sides and back of my home (~300 sq feet) 2. Mulched and added plastic edging around the house where the grass was removed 3. Removed grass, laid dirt, added plastic edging, planted flowers, and mulched around my mailbox (~10 sq feet) 4. Removed grass, laid dirt, added plastic edging, planted flowers, and mulched around my lamp post (~10 sq feet) 5. Planted flowers and mulched existing front beds of my home (~500 sq feet) 6. Edged and mulched 4 trees in front yard ( ~35 sq feet) 7. Edged and created a new full bed (versus individual plots) for 20 Leland Cyprus trees in my back yard. 8. Removed wild blackberry and honeysuckle bushes from my back yard (~600 sq feet) 9. Laid top soil on newly cleared area and seeded the area and the rest of my backyard. Comments Two guys arrived at 10:30 am on Monday (we did not set a time to start work which was my fault). Originally there was some confusion on the work to be done, but the owner Michael Pugh was quick to get that resolved. After a brief conversation and the guys getting some additional supplies from their office, the work commenced. I took off the time from work and provided guidance during the the entire three days they were there. The guys took instructions very well and ensured i was happy every step of the way. They worked extremely hard and were very careful not to damage anything. They did most of the work by hand with a shove and a wheelbarrow. Day one, they were able to create the new beds around my lamp post and mailbox, complete the planting and mulching in the front yard, and created a new bed and mulch around my Leland Cyprus trees in my back yard. They also added plastic edging around the bed per my request, but didn't fully understand the edging was to supposed to go into the ground, so they just laid it on top and used stakes to keep it up. On day two they brought a third guy to help the work go quicker. They started by removing the grass area from around the back of the house being careful not to damage the sprinkler system. They again added the plastic edging per my request, but again just laid it on top of the soil and staked it down, and then added mulch. Next up was the removal of blackberry bushes and honeysuckle which was very thick. I didn't know how they were going to do this without a machine. After talking to the owner Michael, we realized that they were not prepared and needed to rent a front loader Dingo. Michael set the rental up and had it delivered within an hour. He only pasted on the cost of what the rental company charge which was extremely nice. By the end of the day, the bushes were removed and tossed into some wooded area. They had the Dingo for a few extra hours, so they used it to start moving the top soil from the drive way to the newly cleared area. We got roughly half the dirt moved. On day three all three guys returned and used wheelbarrows to move the rest of the dirt to the cleared area and graded it well. They also seeded the new area with the seed I provided. It was only a half day of work. Overall they did a great job and for the price was excellent. They followed instructions well, and worked extremely hard taking very limited breaks. It would have taken me at least five times as long and most likely would have hurt myself. The only area of opportunity was the plastic edging wasn't installed correctly so I will have to either do that myself, or hire another company to do it.
Description of Work: I recently moved into a new home, and needed a major yard makeover. I had 10 cu yards of mulch and 10 cu yards of top soil delivered to my home. I also purchased 11 flats of petunias and 80 lbs of grass seed. They created new beds, mulched, removed bushes, laid new top soil and seeded the area.

This was a big job. We have several large flower beds in the front yard that needed cleanup and mulching as well as the side yard and the back yard perimeter. The workers were extremely courteous and attentive to our requests related to covering our gravel drive before dumping the mulch loads and where on the drive we wanted it off loaded. We were extremely pleased with the end result and will definitely use Commonweatlh Landcare in the future.

I have been asked repeatedly to provide a review for this service, but it is so hard to do so for the type of service that I purchased. The whole point of aerating and seeding your lawn is to help with lawn quality for the following year. So I really will not know how well the grass seed performs until well into the growing season this year. I requested a fescue seed and having anything other than this is a big deal to me, so I will just have to wait and see. They also told me that they did not use a separate starter fertilizer, that the seed they used was coated with a fertilizer. What I can say is that they showed up on time. They didn't come and find me when they showed up though, which I would have preferred, and so I heard them and went and talked to them. And they did not check in when they left, which I would have preferred. So I'm not sure I will purchase this product again going forward. It was good to use them for the aeration, but I think I could have that done by someone cheaper and then just seeded/fertilized it myself with what I'm comfortable with, so that's probably the route I will take in the future.
