I had given the dimensions to the provider and advised they may need scaffolding for the job. However the showed up with no scaffolding and said no one had communicated that to them. They told me they would have to come back another day or I could go rent some, per their boss. The boss is being a bit beligerent. My wife had called him to see what we need to do to get the job done. He told her he was on another job, he didnt want to to delay it. However we had already stripped everything out of our living room and I had taken a half day off. We are so fed up with the ordeal and want to get a refund.

Greg Wilson came with his co-worker (I guess his name was Billy) and both of them did an excellent job. Their work definitely exceeded my expectations. They finished all the odd jobs that were there in my list and did quality work.
Description of Work: we had various jobs that had to be done around the house such as removing a wooden pet enclosure screwed into the ground, permanently closing a pet-entrance in the door, sealing a water leak, fixing a shower, installing a kitchen faucet, sealing the doors, fixing the loose door handles etc.

The initial contact was quick and professional. They requested pictures of the door frame which I sent them and they always responded quickly within a few hours. When it came to purchasing the materials, they gave me the option of purchasing them and I asked them to. They were happy to accommodate my request, showed up on time and when the removed the door frame and threshold, they showed the rotted threshold to me which was also warped badly. They gave me options and even though it caused them to run over on the job, the were kind enough to go purchase the additional parts and installed it all very timely. It looks better than when it was new and they did a beautiful job. I thought their price was more than fair and job was excellent. I will definitely use them again. Highly recommend this company.

We went back and forth on setting up the appointment, but NOT through the fault of the company, but due to my scheduling issues/problems. Throughout the scheduling issues the company responded immediately to my E-mails and worked with me to set up a time that worked for me. The two men who did the work were very professional and polite and kept at the job -- not even taking a lunch break, but continuing until they got the job completed - which in all was about a 6 hr. job. When they discovered that I needed crown molding too, they checked with me first, then went out and purchased the additional materials. It was a very hot day, but they persisted and when they were done I was very pleased with the work. It looks good and blends completely in with the rest of the house and I like the small ventilation holes that go across the entire length of the board. I know that this will keep out any future birds that will try to get into the house. (A woodpecker had originally poked a hole in the wood under the roof and had built a nest in the attic, causing me to need the replacement wood). After they took the old facial board down the two workers even pulled out another nest from the opposite end of the house - so they went above and beyond what they were hired to do.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced soffit board and facial board using primed wood and continuous metal venting for the roof. Also painted trim and replaced crown molding.

They replaced some trim around the front door and a couple of other areas. They painted it as well. There were no additional costs beyond the price of deal. We did have to reschedule the appointment a couple of different times, but that was all right. Two people came and spent two hours each on the job. They cleaned up well after the work and they did an okay job.

I have a mixed review for HCC contracting: On the plus side: - I used an Angie's list "Big Deal" so I feel I got good value for my money. The workers were diligent and put in a lot of effort. - The quality of the painting (garage door) was excellent, - The form and fit of the Ceiling fan was excellent. The bathroom fan was installed without ceiling cuts even though it was a larger profile. On the minus side: - It was almost a month after I paid Angie's list before the owner actually came to talk to me. It required intervention by Angie's List to initiate the job - The workers were not able to complete as much as the owner quoted. In part this was my fault, in that the owner indicated I should power-wash the deck the day before. I did, but the deck was still too wet to start staining until the late afternoon. Then, the larger batch of stain sold to me by Home depot was the wrong tint, and had to be returned. - The quality of the deck staining was inconsistent. Some areas were done well, but there are "overlap" marks where stain dried one one half before the other half was applied. Again, this problem is partly due to the Home Depot tint issue. - Workers were not familiar with electrical wiring. I had to explain how the pre-existing ceiling fan switch should be wired.
Description of Work: 2 Contractors for 8 hours --- Replaced a bathroom fan, repaired a floodlight, Replaced a bedroom ceiling fan, painted garage doors, and partially stained a deck.

He works with clients really well I feel like he understood exactly what I needed and wanted done. We are now selling the home and everyone who walks into the house has great things to say about his work. I would highly recommend him to anyone who needed anything done. The cost and value of his work is tremendous not only that his estimate came in well under the cost of a lot of other good contractors. He provided quality work and quality driven products I would without a doubt use him again.
Description of Work: He had an Ad on Angie's list for a kitchen remodel so I contacted him. I needed a lot of work done in my home. He completed an entire kitchen remodel along doors, molding, stairs, floors and endless things in our entire home.

HCC sent two handymen to complete the work. Everything went very well. One of the handymen swapped out the storm door and installed the new lock in the front door while the second technician, Greg Wilson, did the remaining work. Service exceed expectations. Am scheduling additional work from this company.

There were no troubles with scheduling and there contacted me right away after purchasing the deal. They called me to discuss the job they emailed me requesting photos of the work needing done. Two men came for the work and stayed for a little over two hours. I had to supply the cost of materials, but there were no additional labor costs. It was a good deal. They cleaned up very well after the job was completed. The company was fantastic and they did a great job!

I had wood root on my sliding glass doors and a couple of windows and I asked them to repair that. They said that could not be repaired and that I need to replace the windows and doors. They sent 2 people out to do the job. They did a lousy job on the drywall and I have used them before for tile work and they did a great job on that. I did not feel like I got my money’s worth. They also said they would get the estimate back to me to replace the windows and doors but I have not heard from them.

It went pretty well, and I got quite a bit for my money. A- overall. The plumbing work they did was of good quality and I wouldn't hesitate to have that individual technician come out again (although I wasn't impressed with the owner). They also painted some trim and repaired a shower. They were very polite and went with me over to Home Depot to help me find the right parts. The carpenter was about a half hour late, but was very friendly and professional. He was prepared to work, brought all the right tools for the job and obviously took pride in his work. Great job by a professional crew. They took the time and effort to get it right and make sure I got what I wanted. The guys are specialized in their profession but at the same time diversified in what they can do so that everything is done in a timely manner and done well. Most of them have worked together for many years so they coordinate well and a lot of experience and know-how. I have also found them to be more affordable costwise than the others I had contacted or used and always fair and honest. .
Description of Work: Demoed a wall between 2 closets and created a bath in the area created with toilet, sink, and rough-in for shower. Framed for 2 closets and hung 2 bifold doors and 1 other door. Completed all drywall work including finishing. Installed ceramic tile floor with trim. Also added a shower in another bath to make a full bath with ceramic tile wall around and installed a new vanity. I bought the "Big Deal" on Feb 23rd Scott suggested dates, I told him we had not picked out the tile yet, he said he had some samples in the 2 dollar range. I told him that we wanted something different a thinner title and described a tile we had looked at and asked if he had samples I did not get a reply form him until May 5th which he told me that he did not have a store front and could not get me samples... I sent him a link to some other titles we were looking at and he did not reply again I left messages on 3/5, 3/13, 3/18. I called him and he said Angie's list was broken and he was not getting messages... Started sending him emails instead. April 7th I sent him an email of the link of the title we found at home depot we went back and forth and then set up a time to do the job - May 14 and 15 he said the job should only take one day he would buy the title and I would pay him. May 13 I installed under counter lighting and are some holes in the wall where the current back splash was and let him know they would have to repair it. He told me there would be an additional charge (even thought on the big deal it says no additional charge for material) and he also told me that it would cost more for the tile install. This is where I really started getting frustrated, he has had this link for over a month and the day before he is telling me additional charges. After a few more emails he said no charge for the wall repair just a charge for the specialty tile install. May 14 Two of his workers came in they ended up taking out most of the walls as the title was to hard to get off... May 15 Started on the tile, got most of it installed after they left we looked at it and noticed it was not straight, over a 1/4 inch different in the same line in less then a two foot distance. I told Scott, he came int he next day and said it wasn't that bad.... and said they guys should be able to fix it, started complaining about the tile said his blade was ruined and it would be unusable to after this job. The guys were nice and tried to fix the tile (made some comment that they didn't like the seam in our granite - seriously???) They did not use spacers (skilled workers don't need to) but when fixing it they were using the cardboard packaging from the tile to get the correct spacing??? So then they came in and talked to us (Scott came back this was around 1 or 2 pm) asked about the grout colors and we picked one out, they said they would do that tomorrow. I went back in the kitchen to check in on them and they had left, I guess they fixed it.... Still looked the same I emailed Scott and he said they would not grout it until we were happy with it and they would come back in and fix it. May 31st they came back out this time Greg came out, spent the entire day trying to fix it, Scott came by and wouldn't even acknowledge I existed. I over heard them taking that they had 10 titles to "fix" it (we 37 sqft of backsplash). Greg said it was bad, they would try and fix it I said we need to remove it all.... He asked if he could come back on Sunday and finish it I said sure, I knew that at this point they were not going to really fix it it still looked bad, he did make it look better but still spots over a 1/4 inch different in the same line of title.... Sunday he showed up at 11 AM.... I said we can't stay all day I assumed you were going to show up at 8 AM he said he had to watch the rock and roll hall of fame last night..... June 7th Greg came back to finish "fixing" the tile and grout they didn't buy the grout and forgot what grout color it was so we had to pick it out gain. Since then I emailed Scott pictures of the job twice and text him twice (want everything documented) and I have not received a response. This has been by far the worst experiences I have ever had working with contractors. The only thing I can hope for is that this review will be read by anyone thinking about hiring this company and hopefully they will lose more then the 600 dollars it would have taken to do the job right.... I would expect this kind of job from some advertisement on craigslist (not saying all people on craigslist are bad) but not Angie's list, this company has an A rating (I guess the A stands for amateurs).

Response from HCC Remodeling
[member name removed], We would like to resolve this issue. We will remove and replace the tile section to the side of the refrigerator sent in you photos, at our expense. I did see the photo, and if you look at it, you level is also running down hill on the counter. Thus your counter top is not level as well. That is where we have to start our tile. As far as your review is concerned, one I suggest you read the coupon fully before purchasing. I have to refer back to any of the coupons to ensure what is and what is not included in the job. Yes I initially thought the repair of the drywall was not included. After referring to the coupon, I realized you were correct and did not charge you. As for the additional charge for the tile, the coupon clearly states “•Choice of 8 x 8, 12 x 12, 16 x 16, or 18 x 18 straight-pattern tile ($80 allowance for tile at $2 per sq. ft.)” the tile you chose cost $14.98 per square foot. The additional charge for the installation was due to the special nature of the tile selected, please note below. •$449 for a new ceramic tile floor or back splash up to 40 square feet; extra square footage can be replaced for an additional fee •Includes demolition and installation labor, as well as materials •Valid for kitchen or bathroom •Removing existing flooring or back splash •Installing new concrete boards on sub-floor (under new tile) •Installing and grouting new ceramic tile •Choice of 8 x 8, 12 x 12, 16 x 16, or 18 x 18 straight-pattern tile ($80 allowance for tile at $2 per sq. ft.) •Hauling away all job-related debris The tile you selected was a metal-glass mosaic tile http://www.homedepot.com/p/MS-International-Madison-Avenue-Interlocking-12-in-x-12-in-x-8-mm-Glass-Metal-Mosaic-Wall-Tile-GLSMTIL-MA8MM/204337886?quantity=40. This actually is considered a specialty tile and we could have charged, per the fine print, “Some tile restrictions apply; specialty tiles can be installed for an additional fee. $50 per hour, $50 per man plus materials,” I should have charged you hourly to do the work. We only charged you a minimum charge for the extra cutting involved and the use of specialty glass cutting blades. Not to mention you asked me if I could contact the wholesale distributer and get the tile for cheaper to save you money: “We found the backsplash we want at home depot Do you think you can get it any cheaper?” “what about from here? http://www.msistone.com/glass-metal-blend/madison-avenue-interlocking/” You were initially told the job may take up to two days. One day to set the tile and one day to grout. The tile you had selected was extremely difficult to work with and extremely hard to cut. We had to use 2 different blades, one to cut glass, and one for the metal stripping, thus delaying the process. You also only paid for 40 square foot of tile and I purchased 45 square foot to ensure there was ample to complete the job. All 45 square foot was used, the actual tile itself was not a true 1 square foot. You also contacted me the night of first day and expressed displeasure with the job. I returned the second day to see what was going on. I was told by my technician it could be repaired as I believed it could, and it was at no expense to you. The blade comment was nothing more than a comment that the blade was ruined as well as 2 other on the metal stripping. We still proceeded to finish the work. Also on the second day, we did look at and chose a grout and were prepared to purchase it. At this point you and you wife seemed pleased with the work, as all my technician’s claimed you told them at the end of each day. And every evening I would get an email claiming the opposite. So at every displeasure, the grout issue was not my concern just trying to complete the job to your satisfaction. After the failed attempt for the correction on the 2nd day. I adjusted and rearranged my schedule postponing other jobs for Angie’s list customers to get my 20 year technician over to you house to correct the problem you saw in the tile. He requested I go purchase 10 more tiles and he would remove the sections to correct the issues which I did. The morning you are referring to “that I didn’t acknowledge you”, I entered the house, waved at you behind your computer, with no response. Proceeded to speak with the technician, and left to get him the materials he required. It was not to disavow your existence, I was in a rush to get other jobs started and done. I needed to make sure everything that was needed for your job was present without wasting my technician’s time of having to go to two different Home Depots to get 10 tiles. Also you had a 20 year veteran of the company there, there was nothing I could say or do that he was not there to take care of. The comment you claimed you over heard may have been referring to any number of things and you must have taken it out of context. We do have other jobs running and personal lives we could have been talking about. As for the grout issue. The grout you initially picked out, was the last thing on anyone’s mind, your satisfaction on the job was more important at the time than the grout color. We are sorry that having to look at another grout chart was such an inconvenience. The original chart you choose from, neither of us marked off to know what grout was chosen. As for my technician returning on Sunday to finish. If you had plans, you should have let him know. I do not require anyone to work on Sundays and he offered to give up his day off to satisfy you. Whether he watch’s TV the night before or not is not an issue. He arrived at your house at 10:15 and you notified him you were not going to be there all day. Out of respect to most people, we do not start work before Nine A. M. on Sundays. Once again I had to move jobs around to reschedule your job. I had not responded to your email sent on the 6/4 because I do not think there is a resolution to this job that will appease you. I have seen the photos taken by my technicians, and the back splash looks fine other than the tile selected. The mat tiles purchase are pre spaced on the mat and do not require grout spacer to install. The construction of the tile’s metal pieces only allowing less than 1/8th of an inch to bond to the tile adhesive and caused them to shift and move, thus the cardboard spacing attempting allow them to adhere to the wall. And once again I was told, by my technician upon completion that you said you were satisfied. My response to this was “I have heard that before and I hope so this time.” Now for the “A standing for amateurs” You are allowed to have your own opinion but, your response was immature and a discredit 40 other Angie’s list members by saying this. I believe this is a great injustice to the other 40 other educated consumers whom you have insulted by your opinion of our company and they lack your intelligence. I do not believe that any one person who asks for discounts at every step of the way, “We found the backsplash we want at home depot Do you think you can get it any cheaper?” should have any bearing of opinion, or has the right to insult 40 other members whom he has never meet!!! All quotations, unless otherwise stated came from your e-mails to me.
