+ -1 moreWe woke up one Friday morning and had water leaking out of our (10-year-old) garbage disposal into the under-sink area. We were under a constrictive timeline, as we were supposed to be in a wedding that afternoon and we had company coming to stay with us. We called two other companies who were unable to guarantee they would be able to fix the problem before we had to leave. When we called Potomac Plumbing around 8:30 a.m., Brandon immediately called us back. He asked a few questions about the problem, and he said he would be able to get us into his schedule before we had to leave. He reviewed the types and costs of garbage disposals he recommended as a replacement for ours.. He called when he was on his way, and he was here around 1:00 p.m. He brought the new garbage disposal with him (which we had agreed to over the phone). He examined, removed, and replaced our old disposal in a matter of about 30 minutes. Brandon was professional, and we will absolutely call him for our next plumbing issue.

+ 0 moreAs promised. Brandon arrived on time, and the job took less than an hour. He explained everything. Price was slightly below average. Potomac has another deal on line now: same pump for $330. The ad claims that it's "normally priced at $500, saving Angie's List members $170!" There may be some plumbers who charge that. There may be some customers who'll pay that, but nobody I know. The average cost to have a 1/3HP pump replaced in this zip code is $318. (There are several sources that come up with different numbers, and it's all arguable.) A homeowner can buy this pump for <$125, delivered. So $295 was my number. More than that and I would have done it myself. Brandon makes a positive impression. He seems to take pride in his work and seems happy to discuss it.

+ 1 moreI hired Potomac Plumbing and Gas from reviews made on Angies list. Brandon returned my call promptly and setup an appointment date. He did show up about an hour late but called to let me know. When he arrived he did not have the correct parts to do the install, not his fault I failed to mention the oddball plastic pipes this house was built with. He did offer to run up to the local store and get the parts but we both decided to wait until the following morning to do the work. Brandon arrived the following day with a helper right on time. The work went smoothly and was completed in few hours. They also installed our new gas stove and again I messed up by purchasing the wrong size kit. This time they did run up to the store purchased the correct parts, installed them and did not charge anything for doing it. Brandon has a great personality and good work ethic. I will use him again.

Contractors who call keeping the customer informed of any delays are always appreciated. When they arrived Brandon and his assistant set right to work. Installed the sump pump and shut of valve quickly and cleaned up the job site. This was a professional job and I would recommend and use them again.

+ -1 moreBrandon was so friendly and professional. I had a bit of a problem where the cartridge within the tub faucet no longer worked and parts are not available. I had called another plumber service and they were going to rip out all my tile work to get to the faucet piping to replace it and told me I'd have to contact a tile worker to replace the tiles. Brandon felt he could take the extra effort and time to chip out just enough tile where the round metal plate could hide the enlarged hole within the tile. He did just that, the new faucet works perfectly. While he was there I asked if he could check the water line to the refrigerator to ensure it was working properly. Brandon is a perfectionist and is very concerned about potential future water problems. He explained the installation had pierced the original piping and that over time the seal could be compromised and cause a series issue. He replaced it with the proper piping with the extra valve built in. I'm very pleased and would use Brandon's services for any of my future plumbing needs.

+ 0 moreWe did not contact Potomac Plumbing through Angie's List, despite their having posted a sump pump "Big Deal" offer. We were looking for a higher horsepower unit to replace one that died while we were out of the country -- resulting in basement flooding. Brandon was very responsive to our call, and he and another crew member arrived when they said they would, very quickly replaced the exterior-located sump pump, and completed the work seconds before another rain storm. I complimented them on not only being responsive and professional, but am impressed that they could arrange a test-storm immediately after finishing work! (Joking, of course -- but their work was very timely.) We would definitely use them again, perhaps for other plumbing needs.

+ -1 moreThis is the second time using Brandon for a job. I drilled a hole in a water pipe, by mistake, in the wall of my house. It was a Sunday afternoon around 3pm and I called Brandon. He wasn’t available to come out for an emergency call that day but he did call around for me to help me find a plumber. He called back to tell me that he wasn’t able to find anyone and that he would be out first thing Monday morning to fix my mistake. My family and I were able to relocate to a friend’s house for running water, no big deal! He showed up the next day and fixed the pipe in which I drilled a hole into. Also, we spoke about replacing the old shut off value for the main water line into the house and drug my feet on calling him, so I had him do the work while he was there and he also replaced the main pressure value. I would highly recommend Brandon in the future!

I informed him that I was getting a new refrigerator and he requested to look at the value that would shut off the water line. After giving the value a quick turn he diagnosed that it wasnt shutting off the water all the way and could fail in the future. He fixed the value for me while he was completing the work on installing my water heater. I was able to leave him alone in the house while he completed his repairs.

+ 0 moreI contacted Potomac after my water heater began leaking. The technician gave me a time when he could install a new 75 gallon water heater. This is a very large unit. He located an equivalent water heater, picked it up, and stayed late to complete the installation. He added a drain pan, which I did not have for the previous unit. The old water heater drain valve was clogged with deposits, so he had to take it outside (full of water), break off the old valve, and drain it into a storm drain. The new unit was shorter and larger diameter that the old unit, so the technician had to re-do the supply lines. Fantastic work in a short period of time. I called him back later on for a separate plumbing job that had been a problem for about 6 months. I was equally impressed by the quality of his work and how fast he fixed what I thought was complicated. I have been an engineer for 40 years, so I know what right looks like. In both cases, the technician cleaned up nicely.

+ -1 moreAfter arrival, the owner/operator was very efficient in looking at the situation and then going about exchanging the hot water heaters. He drained the old hot water heater, should me the problem with the sump pump and how he solved the problem. He used new copper pipes, not the ones already there, and just went about his business in a very professional manner.
Description of Work: I originally submitted a very poor review. After hearing from the owner, and hearing that he was overloaded with work (he is a one person operation), I set a date for his installing a new hot water heater. He arrived a efficiently installed the new hot water heater in less than two hours. That included the removal of the old hot water heater. I spoke with the owner/operator at great length and he explained to my satisfaction, why and how he was flooded (my pun) with work. It was due to his big deal through Angies List. Since he is a one person operation, he focused on getting as many as the big deals completed and he was exhausted when he got home. This person was very efficient and effective in exchanging the hot water heaters. He wasted no time and after sizing up the situation, went to work.

He and Gary arrived promptly on Monday, the 22nd, and viewed the location for the heater installation. I had already warned Brandon that I had miscalculated the size needed (my current was a 40 gallon) and the space in my condo was tight. Brandon and Gary did a masterful job removing my old heater (original from 1991) and putting in the new, slightly wider, taller, water heater, and got it done in about an hour an a half. + 0 moreBefore purchasing the Big Deal, I contacted Brandon who answered many questions regarding my existing gas water heater, the installation, his company's experience, etc. I then felt very comfortable purchasing the Big Deal coupon. Brandon arrived on time, looked over the particulars of my current water heater, and noted that, as discussed, he would need to replace the shutoff valve on the existing water heater as it was completely corroded. In under 3 hours, I had a new water heater and the area in my utility room was cleaned up. Brandon was very careful getting the new water heater into the house (had to go down stairs as there is no outside door to the basement) and also in removing the old water heater -- no wall dents or scrapes. I wish every service contractor was as careful and as good about answering questions; it was a great experience. I'll be using this company again!

Description of Work: We purchased a large whole house generator and wanted to run it with natural gas since that was available to us already. We were in a jam and needing a plumber to run a gas line, install some black pipe, and a regulator at the generator itself. Most of the electrical was on the finishing stages and we were still trying to find the right company to provide the fuel for our generator. Every plumber prior to Potomac Plumbing had a brainy ideas with a steep cost. A couple wanted to run 170 foot of underground gas line from our meter and around the house, digging up the yard, and a cost well over our budget. I finally got on Angie's List, queried plumbers near my location, and found Potomac Plumbing and the great reviews. Called Brandon (owner), he came out the same day (at the time promised) and gave in my opinion, a great assessment of the job needed and an estimate as well. Originally Brandon said he could do it in about four days which was still better than the two-weeks I was getting from others. To our surprise, he called the next day and said he had a break in schedule and would be out tomorrow. Brandon showed up on time again (a plus around these parts) and knocked out the job in record time. I could not believe he got done so quick which took nothing away from how great of a job he did. Everything looks great and has sinced past inspection. My electrician was so surprised how well the gas line was ran, he made sure he got Potomac Plumbing contact information to pass on to other customers needing gas repairs/installs or plumbing. I am very happy with the work and have since passed on my experience and Potomac Plumbing's contact information to people I know. It just seems these days, people want the money but it's hard to get them to work and do a job that makes you feel it was worth it.
