The Plumber arrived promptly. Was polite and well spoken. Removed shoes (thank you). Finished work in under 2 hours. Since the new drains were smaller than the previously installed ones, the job resulted in a noticeable black ring in the sink around the new drain that did not look good. We were unable to remove or clean black marks. This was a bit annoying since we purchased several drains in order to have more than one option to install and the plumber recommended and installed the smaller one that just did not look right. Just after the plumber departed I noticed that the faucet handles on one sink were loose. I had to fiddle with the faucet quite a bit to determine how to adjust it properly. It was not straightforward. I would have thought the plumber would have checked the quality of his work before departing. Several days later we noticed both sinks had puddles under the sink on the floor. One sink was actually leaking at every junction where a piece of the new piping was attached. What a disaster. To add insult to injury we paid over $600 for the job, not including the cost of the faucets and drains. For the outrageous cost of a "Mercedes" Plumber to do a simple job we were expecting much better quality.
Description of Work: Replace 2 bathroom faucets and drains. Replace traps under the 2 bathroom sinks.

We do wish to discuss and rectify this with you [member name removed]. This is the first we've heard of any problems pertaining to our work back in September. As you are aware, there is a warranty on our work. We do stand behind our work and our goal is to make sure our customers are completely satisfied. Please at least allow us an opportunity to correct these issues for you by discussing this with us directly. Thank you for your feedback and we look forward to hearing from you soon.

Although Dr. Bill showed up at the scheduled time, he was impatient and seemed uninterested in my business. Instead of doing his own video inspection of the sewer line, he asked to see video from a competitor. He also asked for details on the depth of the line so he could provide an accurate estimate. I promised to provide the information quickly and gave him my phone number and e-mail address. I e-mailed the information to him within 30 minutes of his departure. I never heard back from him and never received an estimate. He seemed perturbed that I was requesting an estimate and when he left, I sensed that he would not provide one. I was correct and would not recommend the Plumbing Dr. due to the complete lack of follow up.
Description of Work: I asked for an estimate for replacing 50ft. of Orangeburg line via pipe-bursting (aka trenchless technology).

Our problem occurred on a Saturday and we needed an emergency weekend plumber. We left a message with this company. They responded very quickly, asked the nature of the problem and said we would receive a call from the plumber. He, in turn, called in a short period of time. He arrived and diagnosed the problem. We had a large obstruction, not in the pipe directly under the sink but in the straight pipe going to the basement and beyond. He used his equipment to get through the obstruction, and installed a new disposal. The plumber was knowledgeable. He explained the problem and how to fix it. He - Charlie - was very friendly. We were very pleased and would call this company again.
Description of Work: Cleared out large obstruction in pipe leading from kitchen to grounf level, installed new garbage disposal.

We moved into a house about 1 year ago. There was a leak under the kitchen sink which my husband patched 2 times. Early in September the leak got too big to patch anymore. I went onto Angies list then yelp to find someone. I called a few companies. The plumbing doctor had the least expensive initial consultation fee which they don't charge you if you use them to fix your issue. I asked when they could come out. The person on the phone asked me what city I was in. I told her Vienna, She said she had a guy out in Vienna finishing a job and could possibly be out there in 30 minutes. I said ok. Within 5 minutes the plummer called and told me he was on his way. 15 minutes later he was at my front door. I asked him to take his shoes off which he did. He fixed our leak in less then 45 minutes, that includes the consultation. I am very happy with the work and he was SUPER nice and explained every possibility and how much everything was going to cost up front. I will use them again when I remodel my kitchen.
Description of Work: The Plumbing doctor fixed a leak we had under the sink.

It could not have gone better. We had to use a "real" plumber as our house came without a master shutoff valve. One toilet was leaking, it turned out it was cracked and had to be replaced (they did try to "save" it though). We decided to go ahead and have a proper master shutoff valve put in. They were prompt, neat, courteous and professional. What more can you ask for? If plumbing goes wrong, it can go VERY wrong, so stick with the experts-like these guys!

We discovered the leak on Tuesday night. Fairfax County Water Authority came out that night and determined that the leak was not between the street and the meter (their responsibility) but rather between the meter and the house (our responsibility!). I checked Angies List Tuesday night and began calling A rated companies early Wednesday morning. The Plumbing Doctor was the first to respond. Even though they were booked all day with other work in a nearby community, Dr. Bill came out with another person just to assess the problem and give an estimate. He was very clear that if the entire line to the house had to be replaced, the cost would be substantially greater, He called Miss Utility and they arrived promptly to mark all the utility lines. At 8AM today, "Dr". Bill and "Dr". Darnell arrived to dig by hand, since the utility lines were too close to dig by machine. By early afternoon, Darnell, had cleared an area around the meter down to the pipes--at least 3' deep and 4-5' wide.. Within a few minutes, he spotted the leak--a tiny pinhole in the copper piping. He and Dr. Bill replaced the pipe section and a few fittings, turned the water back on and checked the line to be sure this was the only leak. Then--Dr. D filled in the hole, replaced the sod and reseeded the entire area. He then washed down the street and any other areas covered with mud. You can hardly tell the area was disturbed! We would hire The Plumbing Doctor again in a minute.. Dr. Bill runs a good shop!!

He was told no. To his credit he understood my incredulousness at the price -- all the work in 2012 cost only $500 -- how could one plastic piece cost $350? I asked if I could replace this myself and he replied that I could. I located the piece on line and priced it at $4.50. Yes, that's $4.50 vice $380. I found the piece at Thomas Summerville in Fairfax and picked it up. It took about five minutes to replace and the spigot is fine. I never received any explanation as to why they would charge so much (and on something they installed!). I will think twice about using this company but my beef is with the costing policy and lack of explanation not the techs.
Description of Work: This company performed several tasks for me last year (2012). One of the jobs -- an outdoor spigot -- broke and I had to have them out to look at the spigot and get an estimate on cost to fix. The tech was very punctual and professional. In fact, I have nothing bad to say about this company's technician. He called his manager and said the price would be $350 to replace the backflow cap. I declined to spend that much since it was just a three piece plastic cap. He called to see if the company would lower the cost.

When we came home from a days out we had water in the basement due to heavy dripping from the shut off valve (an old and rusty piece of crap). The idea was to get on with our evening and shut if off before going to bed. Wrong decision. Around 11pm I've tried to turn the wheel of the valve and with each quarter turn the water leak got bigger. No way out then call an emergency plumber. Funny enough we needed one a couple weeks before on a Sunday to help unblock a toilet and did not wanted to get that grumpy old man back. Found The Plumbing Dr on Angies called them around 11pm and by midnight Dr Charlie our plumber showed up. Considering that we called him away from whatever he was doing at home he was as chirpy and happy as one could be. Really impressive. I've spent the next 2,5 hours with him in the basement and at the street shutting off the water main and observing his work. Very professional and knowledgeable as well as entertaining. No dull moment. He also, in a non pushy but educational way suggested we install the water pressure valve (additional $350) - no cheap sales talk or push. He even spent time with me afterwards ensuring that I am happy with the water pressure throughout the house and adjusting the valve to 68psi. We can finally say that we have found a plumber that we trust and that we will call back (given that our house is 70 years old and a beautiful ol' lady that requires tons of maintenance this is very important for us). Well done Charlie - we will call you again... Thank you very much!

I called them based on Angie's List reviews. They will take advantage of the customer's urgency and will not quote any prices on the phone and instead charge $90 (or $75, I forget which) to just come out and look at the problem. They know that the customer having spent the time setting up the appointment and putting up $90 to get started will simply give in and agree to whatever rate they quote when they get there. Lots of plumbers play this game to discourage the customer from getting competitive bids, but the Plumbing Dr takes it to another level. They are the most expensive plumbing company I've dealt with. When they got to my home and showed me their prices, I almost fell out of my chair. Their rates to fix toilet stoppage start at $193 and go up to over $500! Given that I did not want to prolong the problem, I bit the bullet and signed up for the base package (they are counting on this). It took the tech less than 10 mins to finish the job that he charged me $168 for (they offer $25 discount for Angie's List customers). That's more expensive than hiring a lawyer! Less than 3 month after the fix, the toilet clogged up again. I called them to see if they would stand by the quality of their work, but they cited a 30 day warranty policy. That's disappointing. If you are going to be the most expensive plumber in the DC area, shouldn't you at least stand by your work for 90 days?

Response from The Plumbing Dr
We are very sorry to hear that you feel this way about our company. We work very hard to make our customers happy and provide exceptional service. We have been in business for over 30 years doing just that. Our customers are not to be taken advantage of, nor to be treated unfairly. Please allow me to explain the situation at hand and hopefully provide an understanding. Upon scheduling, we let our customers know that we have a $68 service/diagnostic fee to have a professional come diagnose the problem. Before performing any work, we give our customers several service level options of their choosing that range in price and warranty level. During regular business hours we waive that fee if we perform any work at all. The customer also has the option to decline any service at all. In this particular situation, it was on a weekend, the option chosen was $168 with a 30 day warranty. In addition, we even waived the service fee which we don't normally do in the evenings or on weekends. Stoppages in general are very hard to warranty because we have no control over what goes in the drain in question. We did in this case warranty the stoppage although the tech retrieved a sponge out of the drain. With it being over two months past the warranty period, I did offer to have a tech come over an assess what was transpiring but could not guarantee that there would not be a charge.

Called at 11pm Saturday night because the water was off for repairs and broke while being turned on. Very few plumbers could come out due to the time but we have small children and could not do without water the rest of the weekend. Plumber got here by 1:30am and replaced the lever and the price was right. Very professional and used a better product than what we had before. We have since used them to redo the pipes on our island kitchen sink and replace our garbage disposal. At first I called around for quotes and they give a great price and do a great job. We will use them for all our plumbing issues in the future.

The Plumbing Doctor company sent a person (Bill) out to survey the work and provide an estimate. Bill was extremely knowledgeable about the installation of the Pelican Water Softener System, providing me with a recommendation on system placement, diagnosing the water hammer sound in my home plumbing and changing out all the twist turn valves to lever operated ones. The estimate arrived the next day and I compare it with two other estimates I had. The Plumbing Doctors estimate was the only one that spelled out every bit of work that would be done and listed the parts they would install. The cost was a bit higher but I went with them because I felt they would best do the job. I was totally right! They arrived right when they said they would and spent the entire day (over 8 hours) installing the system and all the other equipment. Everything was picture perfect. The work area was thoroughly cleaned and the Technicians spent about an hour going over everything I needed to know about the system and other equipment installed. They answered all my questions and were not is a rush to leave even after spending such a long work day here. I plan to use The Plumbing Doctor in the near future for another plumbing project I have been wanting to do. This is an AWESOME company and I would gladly highly recommend them to everyone.

Our water pressure regulator valve broke and was leaking/spraying water all over the basement in the early evening on 4/17/13. Thankfully my husband and I were both at home, however, my husband was about to leave to catch a flight. I called 3 service providers with 24 hour service that had excellent reviews on Angie's List. I called The Plumbing Dr at 7:15pm and Tracy called me within 20 minutes. I explained the problem to her, and she said that she could have Charlie, the on-call plumber, at my house within the next hour or so and that there would be the cost of the repair, plus the $68 trip fee for emergency service. I told her I had a $30 off coupon for the first service call from their web site and asked her if I could use it, and she said yes. Charlie arrived about an hour later, took a look at the problem and said that the original plastic valve was almost 30 years old and had been leaking for a while. He showed me the rust on the valve and on the floor where it had dripped. He gave me a few service level options to select from and said that the lowest level (and least expensive) service (Bronze, I think) would work fine and came with a 6 month warranty. He replaced the water pressure regulator with a heavy duty brass one in about an hour and helped me clean up most of the mess. He was friendly, professional and great with my 3 dogs. It was a relief to get my water turned back on instead of having to wait to make a regular plumbing appointment the next day. The Plumbing Dr was truly a lifesaver!

Their work as of excellent quality. They told us ahead of time what it would cost, and their estimate for time was accurate. I was out of town, and they came late at night to help my wife deal with the horrible smell. They did a great job, and corrected the problem. They are polite and courteous.
Description of Work: We had sewer gas coming into our home through a cracked flange beneath one of our toilets. The smell was unbearable. Plumbing Doctor replaced two small leaky piples in our basement for a flat rate. The work was done well and quickly for a flat rate of $289. This job took less than 40 minutes. We also had a leak from our upstairs shower that came down through our Dining Room ceiling. It ended up just being caulking that needed to be done. He said he would have to charge us the hourly rate of $168 to perform the caulking. I said NO Thank You. When they were finished the other work in under an hour, I asked if he could do the caulking and include it in the other repair cost. He said that he could not do that, it has to be charged as an extra job. I told him that I was going to let the company know that this is a rip off. He decided to do the caulking and it took him less than 5 minutes.

Finished product - great - we've had no problems since the date of repair. Was less of a problem than we had worried it would be (no one likes to have water leaking from their living room celing after the kids have taken a bath upstairs!) and the plumber did a great job. The only downside to the visit was that they were starting a new pricing system that had a binder with about 6 different choices with different pricing for my job - from 'platinum' choice to 'band-aid' choice with obviously platinum being the most expensive with the longest warranty and band-aid the cheapest and shortest warranty. This was kind of confusing and odd - as a customer with no plumbing knowledge the choices were not self-explanatory and a bit too technical. My guess is that any consumer just wants the plumbing fixed and would of course like to do so without overpaying. Offering such an 'a la carte' option of choices for a plumbing job just seems like too much. But again we were very satisfied with the finished product and have had no trouble since.

The company came out to look at a one month old water heater that was not working. The person on the phone did not mention anything about pricing or their minimum service charge of $98. The positive of this experience was how quickly they arrived on a Sunday (with in 1 hour of calling). The technician mentioned the $98 charge and that it would be applied to the work charge if we used them. The technician figured out the issue to be a bad heating element. Rather than giving me a quote of labor and parts he presented me with a book of different price packages to repair the item ranging from $400 to $900. He did not give me the option of the lowest "Band Aid package" that was about $200. The company does not provide labor and parts estimates, they offer warranty packages for each type of job offered. I did not use them to perform the service and the company refunded me the minimum charge because they had forgotten to mention it. The company is honest and righted my situation.

They clearly explained up front the charges and timing for disconnecting and reconnecting a dryer. They arrived as scheduled.
Description of Work: Disconnected old gas dryer and reconnected new dryer. I have also used them from drain cleaning and was pleased with their service.
