I contacted GBK to re-do my dated kitchen in my townhouse. I have lived in my townhouse for going on 14 years and the kitchen was very dated. My primary contact was Adem, he was very professional, friendly and responsive. We went to their showroom facility where they had a wide range of high-quality cabinets, countertops, flooring and fixtures to choose from. Adem also was very helpful in providing guidance on good color combinations. The work itself was slated to begin the first week in December, right after Thanksgiving, and Adem provided a time estimate of 3 weeks. They actually completed the job in less than two and a half weeks, and came in on weekends to ensure all of the work would be complete before we left for the holidays. The workers were very professional and kept the work area from spilling over to the rest of the house. We are very happy with the end result more than a year later, and we are planning on hiring Adem and GBK to re-do our master bath as well.
Description of Work: The provider provided a complete kitchen remodel.

It was excellent. I got them for half the price. They were nice, friendly and helpful. They gave me some alternatives for what I need as far as what I could do and what I couldn't do. I had to wait at one point. The professionalism, the service and the uniqueness of the design stood out. They're good.

The owner, Adem, was a delight to work with. He lived the stated philosophy of wanting the customer to be satisfied. Before contracting, spoke with several references from previous jobs and the story was the same: Adem does high quality work and is focused on customer satisfaction. The crew leader, Luis, and his team, were very professional. The results are great and the process was nearly painless. There were some bumps at the beginning of the job, not of their making, and they worked diligently to assure the work was done well and to our satisfaction. There was a firm end date we requested at the outset. Despite the delivery of a defective tub that cost the job several days (grateful that the Luis discovered the imperfection before installation), the crew completed the job a week early. They worked long hours and even a Saturday. The team was easy to work with and consult with as the job progressed. Each day the job site was well cleaned. A couple days after completion we noticed a slight leak under the sink. Luis came out the next day to repair it. The bathroom looks great and is much more functional. Would recommend working with Adem at Globe Bath and Kitchen Remodeling.
Description of Work: Complete gut and remodel of bathroom
The work went slowly due to a change in workers and last minute changes we requested, but the final result was a beautiful new bathroom and three others with new vanity tops, fresh paint, new toilet, shower enclosure and re-glazed bathtub. The company gave good advice about selection of tiles, vanity tops, lighting and painting. Minor details such as leaky faucets after installation were quickly addressed. I highly recommend this company for bathroom remodeling.

In a word - magnificent. Took a little longer than I expected, however, that is the contracting business and was fully expected. But the results were just amazing. My wife still talks about it.
Description of Work: Remodeled our master bathroom to make it easier for aging and tiled our entire basement.
Very professional crew, you get what you pay for. Italo was a great contractor/designer to work with, and Calixto's crew was timely, worked hard and were very responsive and professional. Showed up early, stayed late and even did some weekend work around our schedule. Could trust them completely and left them alone a lot. Calixto was good to stop and ask questions when unexpected things turned up or if instructions were unclear (he always verified the desired heights or placement of things) and undid or redid things whenever we were unhappy (sometimes it was our fault or bad design on our part). Total working days was about 22, demo to 95% completion was 1 month which was VERY quick considering the amount of work and small delays/troubleshooting. Would not hesitate to recommend these people at all, super clean worksite and minimal dust which was astounding given the amount of demo and work involved. The only snag was the subcontractors for countertop (good price, but not the most professional company, you need to watch them like a hawk from initial measurements to laying down the counter and making sure everything is perfectly straight, seams aren't as clean as other top notch counter people in the area, etc.). The flooring subcontractor was good, but worked very slowly which is inconvenient when you can't stay in the home from the polyurethane. However, even with these two issues, the project went very quickly, painlessly and smoothly.
Description of Work: Total kitchen remodel, including refinishing of floors (from family room, through kitchen to dining), knocking down a wall, a lot of electrical and plumbing work, new wood cabinets and building out an island.
The project went very well. We sought bids with four different companies and chose Globe Bath & Kitchen Remodeling LLC because of their design, the quality of the materials in their showroom, the ability to get the job done quickly, and the price. We worked with Adem throughout the project. He had a wonderful team with Italo Angelo providing the design and Gabriel serving as the onsite construction foreman. We went through several iterations of the design with Italo and he provided great suggestions to implement our ideas. We started construction in mid July and the team worked very quickly. Each weekday a crew worked on the house and finished 95% of the work in only 4 weeks. There was a little delay for some of the parts required for a few of the kitchen cabinets that stretched the completion for two more weeks. The few deficiencies, we found in the work were fixed promptly. We are very pleased with the result bringing our kitchen up to date an improving the other rooms in the home.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen remodel: new cabinets, appliances, expanding walls, flooring, and lighting. Remodel of the Living room (flooring and paint), dining room (flooring, lighting, ceiling fan), basement (replaced wood paneling with drywall, lighting, and paint), and finished our laundry room (flooring, drywall, drop ceiling, and paint). Installed new front outdoor faucet and a fan in the bathroom.

Gabrielle did beautiful work on the bathroom. It was done quickly in approximately a week and everything looked great. A part of the vanity light arrived broken and it took a lot of back and forth to get a new one. After a couple of months the vanity light began to flicker and burn bulbs out very quickly. I reached back out to my original contact and he put me off a couple of time and then I found out he had left GKB. I was frustrated but once Adem (the owner) was made aware of the issue he handled it quickly and the light was replaced, even though it was over 6 months later.

How'd it go? OUTSTANDING! I received estimates from 7 contractors before settling with Globe. Why? Rave reviews on Angie's list, professionalism, response and cost. Highly, highly recommend this company. Estimate of 4 to 6 weeks and completed job in 4 weeks! Luis and his crew are amazing!!! Very professional, courteous, punctual, and most of all METICULOUS in their work. Everyday would setup tarps, plastic, etc to keep house clean and every night removed everything so that our home was very livable during construction. Very patient as well - painted entire powder room with color I choose. I decided that I picked a really bad color and they repainted the powder room. They were very, very patient with me! All bathrooms are meticulous with the tile, painting, vanities, etc. We could not be more pleased with the product and have been showing off our bathrooms to neighbors and friends. Do yourself a HUGE favor and contract with Globe. You will not be disappointed, but super thrilled that you did! Sue Harpe

The management was very responsive to our requests to include a detailed break out of the costs. They designed everything just as we wanted. (We did have several pictures and ideas of how we wanted things to be which I think helps to get everyone on the same page.) We agreed that the basement could begin as soon as they could start but the master bathroom could not begin until everything was available. That worked very well. The crew Calixto, Victor and Marvin were great. They were very considerate and careful as they moved through the house. They were great about consulting us if something needed to be changed and they offered great advise if I wasn't sure how something would look. They were very patient especially when I had a change that held up some of the tile work in the small bathroom. The crew came promptly everyday and were here all day. We are very happy with both bathrooms and I think they exceeded my expectations.x

First of all the Adem, the salesman, helped me choose the tile that would best match my bathroom floor, and he searched for a shower control that decouples water flow and temperature. The whole purpose of my having the work done was to stop being deluged with water by my cheap and inefficient shower control and to be able to hold water in the bathtub. Within two days the work was done. On the first day, Gabriel and Luis (sp) demolished one of the original showers, and before installing the new tiles, Gabriel asked how I would like the tiles oriented, vertical or horizontal, and if I wanted the "brick" layout. He also asked where I would like the two shelves. I chose horizontal tiles with the brick layout and the far corner for the shelves and am delighted with the results. He sealed the grout and recommended I reseal it once a year. On the second day, Gabriel, Luis, and Gabriel's son demolished and rebuilt the second shower and installed the bathtub drains. And they even installed my shower curtain holders for me!
Description of Work: Install new shower controls and tile and bathtub drains in two bathrooms.
After seeing the excellent work done by Globe Bath & Kitchen Remodeling in the condo unit across the hall, we asked for a similar renovation, which included taking out a wall and adding an island in the kitchen. With just one visit to their store and granite supplier the job was all set up and they got to work, which had to be done while we were away. They did an excellent job of blending the new flooring into the existing hardwood. We asked them to paint the entire interior of the condo and they did an excellent job. We even asked for a new back door and storm door, which were installed perfectly. The finished product in the kitchen came out extremely well, with the new granite countertops, backsplash tiles, new cabinets, island, and refrigerator. We would certainly recommend GB&K to others.

I was initially happy with the work Eric, Gabriel and their team did on my bathroom and kitchen. The price was good (not the cheapest but seemed to be best value), most of the work turned out beautiful, however there have been ongoing issues with my vanity light that are still un-resolved. The vanity light that was initially delivered had a broken part, it took over 2 months of back and forth between GBK and Ferguson to get a replacement part. Once it was finally delivered Gabriel came out and put on the broken piece. After about another month lights began burning out very quickly and were flickering. I spent over another month of back and forth to get someone to come out and look at it. I finally got Gabriel to come look at the light about 2 weeks ago and he said it was just some loose wires he made a couple of adjustments and that seemed to fix it for about a day. The light is now back to doing exactly what it was doing before. I have since placed 3 unanswered calls to GBK in an attempt to resolve this. I do not feel like I should be going back and forth over a vanity light 6 months after the fact, it has soured what was an otherwise positive experience.

Response from Globe Bath & Kitchen Remodeling LLC
We apologize for the inconvenience. Eric Shipe, who used to work for the company, never communicated home owner’s complaint to the company, once we knew about the issue we sent a technician to solve the problem. Home owner called and said the light issue was not resolved and wanted the light replaced. We already ordered the light and waiting for the delivery, so we can send back the technician to replace it for no charge.
We contacted Globe in October 2013 after purchasing this house with a very old and not functional kitchen in July. We had just remodeled a kitchen in our previous house before selling it so were well aware of costs and key issues we needed addressed. Eric Shipe came out and took measurements and started the process of providing 3D sketches for us to consider. Over the course of a month we adjusted the layout, discussed placement of the island and other seemingly minor details. However, knowing that getting the design right is the most critical part of a project going smoothly, we spent the time here and so did Eric. We saw something like 10 different designs until we finally settled on one in early December. Eric was always patient and responsive -- all through this time he couldn't be sure his efforts would transpire into us using his company or another. Luis and crew started on January 7 and completely tore out the old kitchen, walls and ceiling. They covered everything with plastic and always left a cleaned up space (every night). The crew worked every day for long hours for two weeks. They also showed up on Saturdays for most weekends and on MLK day which fell during this time. Luis is an amazing craftsman. We originally thought the gas lines were going to have to be piped on the outside of the house because our basement (where the gas line starts in the house) is finished, but he managed to run it all through the walls and even to the fireplaces with just minor sheetrock repair. The delivery of the cabinets was slightly delayed due to the ongoing snow storms but we had been given a timeframe of 4-6 weeks for the install and the kitchen was completely useable for our family in 22 days. There were a few minor things that had to be installed in March (a piece of cabinet on the end of the microwave, the back of the cabinets under the bar and one shelf in the pantry, and the molding over 3-4 o the cabinets on the ceiling) because they had to be reordered from the cabinet company, but they were simply aesthetics and we used the kitchen like normal that whole time. The only set back was that the first sink that was installed was the wrong one. This meant that granite company had to come back out, cut out the granite and reinstall the new sink and different granite. When I contacted Eric about the wrong sink, he took care of immediately, no questions. This is why having a clear floor plan and a detailed list of items that will be installed is extremely important. The only improvements I can see that could be made would be just slightly better communication on a day-to-day basis. Eric was always responsive to my emails or calls -- usually calling me back with 2 hours; however, having worked with other contractors I appreciated the ones that were proactive, called me and gave me a daily update on what to expect next. That started to happen during the process and Eric did a great job of that while we were waiting for the final parts in March. Another reviewer said it well. Globe is not high pressure, and they certainly are not low budget. They also aren't ridiculously priced. They were the right middle ground for a nice high-end kitchen. They do a fantastic job, use high quality products (the cabinets are Norcraft) and have wonderful, professional crew. We are planning to have them redo our bathrooms in the near future.
Description of Work: Completely gutted the old kitchen, tore out the flooring, tore out ceiling and reframed a new ceiling with different framing. Ran gas lines to two fireplaces, piped it into the kitchen for a gas stove, and put a gas outlet for a grill outside on the deck. Moved plumbing for the sink and dishwasher, installed all new ceiling and under cabinet lights as well as 3 pendant lights, all new cabinets, granite, tile backsplash and installed our purchased new appliances including a cabinet mounted microwave. Installed new wood floor, sanded down area of space and matched wood to existing original hardwood.

Eric and his team were fantastic. We met Eric in the showroom and he took the time to go over every aspect of the bathroom and helped us pick tiles, faucets and everything in between. The estimates he provided were very detailed with links to the products and a full explanation of the requirements. The work started on time and finished on schedule with no surprises. The team was responsive, organized and clean. We would definitely use Globe again for another remodel!
Description of Work: Renovated hall bathroom top to bottom.
The bottom line is that we were so pleased with the kitchen remodeling job that we asked them to do a minor bathroom remodel, and now that that's finished we're discussing another bathroom renovation. We first contacted Adem in April 2013 to give us an estimate on our kitchen. We didn't want the work started until August at the earliest, so when it took two months for him to give us an estimate it wasn't really a problem for us. It took another month to finalize everything and make all of our selections, and the work started about six weeks later, not much later than the time frame we had in mind from the beginning. The actual kitchen work took three and a half weeks, including refinishing the hardwood floor. In terms of design, we liked the general layout of our old kitchen, but everything needed updating. That made the design process much easier. We bought the appliances ourselves from Ferguson because of a special promotion the manufacturer was offering. The remodeling job involved installing new cabinets and granite countertops, installing the appliances, tiling the backsplash, installing glass tiles on a garden window behind the sink, removing the old wallpaper and repainting. Luis and his crew did all of the work except for the granite installation and the floor refinishing, which were done by different contractors. Their work was excellent. Every day they came and put down tarps from the front door to the kitchen and sealed the work area with plastic sheeting. At the end of the day they cleaned up thoroughly. These precautions kept the dust and mess to a minimum. We wound up having them do several extra things without getting an estimate first -- in general, not a very good idea -- but they didn't try to rip us off. The charges seemed quite reasonable. The second job was a minor remodel of a guest bathroom. Luis and his crew did the work the week of Christmas. Again, no problems. The turnaround on that job was very quick, probably because it was a small job and we didn't mind being scheduled the week of Christmas. Keep in mind that this a small company with a very busy owner. If you're looking for a big slick kitchen and bath company with a huge showroom and design staff, you're going to wind up paying a lot more for your kitchen or bath.
Description of Work: A complete kitchen remodel. The remodeling job involved gutting the old kitchen, installing new cabinets and granite countertops, installing appliances, tiling the backsplash, removing the old wallpaper, repainting, and refinishing the existing hardwood floor. After that job was done we also had them do a minor bathroom remodel and some miscellaneous repairs.

I would definitely recommend this company, especially for those considering aging-in-place home modifications. Adem seemed to have an inherited eye for understanding the need for continuity and flow required for functionality in these areas; I can see why he specializes in Bath and Kitchen. His staff was very polite and respectful of my person, belongings and space. Although I vacated the premises, they closed off their working areas to allow me safe and junk free access to the other areas, if needed. I am a very satisfied customer.
Description of Work: My home was built in 1938, when codes, needs, materials and/or methods used were quite different from today. The goal was to remodel and make my bathroom and kitchen areas accommodatingly safe for my bilateral upper extremity limitations. My selected contractor, Globe Bath and Kitchen from Virginia, was located thru extensive internet search, covered my needs in both areas with an added bonus, a matching island on wheels. At the initial visit to my home, to provide an estimate, Adem understood what I was attempting to accomplish and artistically demonstrated how he could achieve this without the arbitrary view as an accommodation. Globe Bath and Kitchens’ proposal was accepted (five others were considered) and my decision was influenced by the fact that he listened and heard my concerns and exhibited knowledge of materials and setup that would best meet my needs. During the activity on the project, he attentively entertained all of my amateur designer ideas and was able to give me the bathroom and kitchen areas that I had envisioned, utilizing the funds in the set budget, while maintaining consistency in the overall quality level of the workmanship and materials used. Bathroom Renovations Begins! My Tiny Three Piece Bathroom 64” wide and 76” length was converted into a spa space. Renovations included installation of an Energy Efficient Jacuzzi Walk-in Heated Tub with Jets, New Tempered Glass Window with easy to open & lock, Tub & Window Tile, Sweetly Designed, with a Flavor of Backsplash and Slip Resistant Floor Tile to match. Kitchen renovation begins with gutting out, design and completion. Before Gutted and Designed Renovation complete! Mosaic glass/marble backsplash, granite countertops, easy accessible shelving and cabinets with under cabinet lighting, new appliances, durable/easy to clean flooring and walls; new tempered glass window and My Bonus!!! an easy to move island with wheels, provides extra food processing space and storage for pots and cooking stuff.
After getting estimates from three contractors, we hired Globe in October to do a complete remodel of our two full baths (guest and master.) Their price was right in line with the other two but I liked the fact that this company has a showroom where you can select your tile and cabinetry and look at the fixtures. Adem, the company owner, called a couple of times to make sure we received the estimate and answer any questions we might have. We had all tile, flooring, cabinets and fixtures removed with the exception of the cast iron tub in the guest bath that we had repainted. We had white subway tile, marble floor tile, marble counter top, a white cabinet and a Kohler toilet installed. In the master bath we had the tub removed and the space transformed to a stand up shower with a seat. Here we had travertine tile installed in the shower surround, porcelain floor, marble counter top and Kohler toiler. We had frame-less glass shower doors installed in both bathrooms. The crew, headed by Gabriel, was polite and respectful of our home. Gabriel, in particular, took exceptional pride in his work. He is a talented young man and his tile work was excellent. I especially appreciated his design ideas for the mosaic accent tile we selected for the master bath. The project was completed on schedule. All questions or concerns I had during the work process were quickly addressed by Adem or Gabriel. The few "punch list" items we had were taken care of within a week of completion. We are totally thrilled with the new bathrooms. The icing on the cake was when Gabriel had a cleaning crew come over to our home on the last day of the job to clean all areas of the house affected by the ongoing construction (adjoining rooms, hallways, garage etc.) Coming home from work to a clean house and sparkling new bathrooms was a real treat! I recommend this company without reservation.

GBK did outstanding work and provided reliable, professional service for our bathroom renovation project in November 2013. After visiting several remodeling businesses (including Reico Bath), my wife and I decided to go with GBK for remodelling the master bathroom (about 6x8 feet) in our townhouse. Due to shoddy work by a different contractor, our bathroom had water damage due to a misinstalled shower door. Eric Swipe (eric@gbkremodeling.com) was helpful in providing general advice about bathroom renovations without any pressure. I liked the fact that the GBK showroom was not overwhelming. GBK is great for folks who do not mind paying a little more for a high quality contractor (instead of negotiating cut-rate fees with non-specialists), but prefer to avoid the "high-end" designs and exhorbitant rates charged by Reico Bath for custom projects. I would recommend going to a tile shop (e.g., Mosaic Tile) and look at tile patterns and designs to get ideas BEFORE you come to GBK. We found it helpful to pick a general color and tile pattern before obtaining an estimate. Once we selected a tile color and design (white subway tile for the shower interior; porcelain white floor tile that resembled marble), Eric and the president of GBK came to our house to do an initial assessment and develop a cost estimate. We asked for a second cost estimate (about $4,000 cheaper) after deciding to keep our double sink and vanity unit. GBK was flexible in adapting to our change requests. GBK prefers an initial deposit of 40% of the total cost to start the project, with milestone payments of 30% each upon completion of the shower tiles, and the entire bathroom. They asked us to select faucet / light fixtures and a paint color for the wall. GBK has a preferred list of products (e.g, Kohler) where they get favorable rates from Ferguson. Also, they work closely with Mosaic Tile (in Fairfax) and get a contractor's discount from them. The quality of contractors was superb. Calixto (lead foreman) and Victor did an outstanding job of removing the old shower and tile, cleaning out the pipes, fixing the water damaged areas and repairing the drywall, explaining what they did, and clarifying details. Calixto has worked with GBK for at least 6-7 years and is reliable. Eric was accessible by email and responded in a timely way to our questions during the project. I would strongly recommend GBK as a place to consider for a bath remodeling project!
