Adem was fantastic!!! We did this whole remodel from the West Coast. His wonderful communication and honesty made it possible. He came out immediately after receiving our first phone call. He gave us a fair estimate complete with drawings and a computer simulation. Work began in a timely manner. Between calls to him and his suggestions for national companies, we were able to put together our dream kitchen. We could not be happier with the quality of the work, Adem's professionalism and expertise, the pricing, and the products. We highly, highly recommend this company and will use him again for more remodeling in our home in the future.
Description of Work: Total kitchen remodel including new sliding door, new bay window, granite counter tops, new cabinets, tile backsplash, and interior painting. New appliances installed; New lighting was also done as well as removal of a soffit/vent to heighten the ceiling.

We are very pleased with Globe's performance. The home's only shower and the laundry room are in the master bath. This required lots of coordination and long hours for the crew so that our time without a shower and laundry were as short as possible. Adem told us we could have a working (operational, not complete as the glass doors take longer) shower within two weeks if the crew worked 7 days/ week. Luis and his crew worked long hours and held to the time line. The crew was extremely hard working, professional and polite. As with any major project, there were minor issues and changes that came up. They were all handled professionally and in a very timely manner. We are very pleased with the finished product and expect to hire them again for kitchen renovations.
Description of Work: Complete renovation of powder room and master bath including walk in shower, marble and ceramic tile work. Both were demo'd down to floor joists and rebuilt completely. Master also required significant structural work to repair amateur renovation done by previous owner.

I really wanted to give A- instead of A. We are happy with the work they did, but to be fair, the process wasn’t as smooth as I had hoped. Our job included three parts: 1) Adding a basic full bath in the basement 2) Adding a center island in the kitchen, installing granite countertop, and many minor addition/modification associated with it 3) Adding a free standing bathtub in the master bath The estimation they gave was the most competitive, and given the amount of work they did at the end, I would say it is quite reasonable. The crew worked hard, had good skills, and finished the jobs right for the first time. And they are proud of their work. The owner, Adem, tried to accommodate all the requests we had and gave us valuable advices and some free upgrades (shower door and ceramic tiles) that we appreciated very much. They did what you would expect a good contractor to do, and I don’t have too much more to say about that. With that said, they could improve on the following aspects: 1) Communication. We are new homeowners and not as knowledgeable as our contractor. We did not have a designer to think through all the details. As a result, we had a few small changes that came up during the remodeling process. The company was not particularly fast when it comes to giving estimate to additional tasks. And sometimes the crew had to do the work before we were given a quote. They did not charge an outrageous amount for the additional work. But I was not comfortable this way and wondered why each time I called and asked for a quote for a small change, the answer was always: “It will not be much. I will get back to you…” But he did not get back to me until days, even a couple of weeks later. 2) Attitude. This is related to the item above. For example, these were the exact words from the company: “We have people begging us to do 50-grand projects … I have 5000 things to track … I don’t have time pay attention to all these little things …” 3) Punctuality. They are not always on time, and we usually don’t know for sure when or whether the crew will show up on a given day. Overall the projects took about twice as long as originally estimated by the company. It was inconvenient to us, as we had to use the half-finished kitchen and prayed that the crew will show up. 4) Attention to small details. As I mentioned, the crew had good skills, but they tended to be forgetful. For many times, I had to remind them the details that they are supposed finish, like caulking, putting wallpaper on small areas, and installing small trims, etc.

The person was punctual and helpful. He measured, provided feedback and promised to send the quote that Friday evening. He mentioned that his email was not working properly but that he would still contact me. I did not receive a response. I waited and called on Saturday. I left a voice mail. I did not get a response so I called on Monday. He gave me the quote over the phone and I asked for a follow-up email. He said he would send it. I never received it. We decided to go with a different company.

After getting estimates from a number of contractors, both from Angie's List and friends' recommendations, we went with Globe, based on price, availability and promised timeline. We wanted an updated bathroom (many of the fixtures/features were over 30 years old), and more efficient space use -- we had a full bathtub and adjoining shower stall in a 12'x6' space. On design, we wanted to put in a blue/white checkerboard ceramic tile pattern for the walls. Adem was an attentive and involved partner as we made design choices. He steered us away from poor initial choices on floor tile design, linen cabinet size, and other less significant choices. He offered useful suggestions on lighting, wall tile and storage cabinet that we may not have thought of on our own. Because this was our only full bath, we set a two-week timeline. Globe proposed and we agreed to have its team work weekends. The construction sub team did top quality work, were in constant motion and worked long hours (most days from 10 until 7 or 8, three Saturdays, and one Sunday). On the first work day (a Saturday), the team demolished the bathroom. Once the master plumber laid the new plumbing lines, the sub team worked quickly without sacrificing quality to rebuild the floor and walls, including replacing some floor boards with water damage (from a leaking shower pan). The team spent nearly two days on the labor-intensive checkerboard wall tiles. There were probably over 400 3"x3" tiles, and there were several scores of tiles that required cutting. The tile person was attentive to detail and did excellent work both in the cutting and laying of tiles. The visual effect is impressive. He did a good job on the floor tiles, too. The rest of the work went smoothly - new combined tub/shower, toilet, basin and linen closet. The workers were very careful as they moved up and down our very narrow staircase, and were conscientious in cleaning up each evening. The demolition work caused some damage to the first floor ceiling, and the team did an excellent job with new plaster work and painting. The project ran a couple of days longer than expected -- probably because of the tile work. We had scheduled a social event for a Saturday night based on Adem's estimate that we'd be finished on Thursday. When it became clear they would be working until Saturday, the workers went into overdrive - working until 9:30 on Friday night, and then beginning early on Saturday and working into the evening. The work did overflow into our teenager's party, but we didn't mind because the team was working so hard in trying to complete the work in time for the party. The bathroom was functional that evening, and the team came back a few days later to do some finishing touch up work. We are extremely pleased with our new bathroom, and would strongly recommend Globe.
Description of Work: Gutted our full bath and replaced with new shower/tub, floor/wall tile, toilet, basin and linen closet.

We had Adem come out to take a look at our bathroom that is in need of a lot of help. He had some great suggestions and we were looking forward to getting an estimate for what he had spoken about, but it never came. When I contacted him to follow up, he said that he didn't think we wanted an estimate (based on us telling him about a prior estimate that was quite low), but when I confirmed that yes, we DID, as we said when we met, want an estimate, he said he'd work up and send over. It's been about a month now and still no estimate. I think Adem assumed that we would not want his estimate because it would be higher, but we specifcially said that we wanted to see what he'd come in with based on his suggestions for the remodel. and still nothing...very disappointing.

Adem gave a very accurate estimate that did not change despite the fact that a few things that were discovered during the repairs made his crew spent more time and materials than anticipated. Luis and his crew did an excellent job, working long hours, and making sure to clean up the place at the end of the day. I highly recommend Adem and Luis.

Sirage Adem came over in late August and looked at the two bathrooms and then asked me to come to his showroom on Saturday. He had some examples of tiled baths and showers and then helped me select tile, wainscoting, and vanities. He knew we needed the work done in late September in about 14 days because my family was coming to visit. He gave us an estimate and then was ready to begin on the date he promised. Luis and his crew--Roberto and Giovanni arrived early in the morning and stayed 9-10 hours each day. The fixtures were very high-quality, any questions were answered readily, they cleaned up carefully after each day's work was done. They finished the upstairs bathroom and the "wow" factor was immediate. Then they started on the downstairs and Sirage Adem called and mentioned that the small vanity (very narrow bathroom) was not quite up to par with the rest of the bathroom. We selected a small vessel sink and unfortunately, it did not arrive and the dealer kept promising. Knowing the time crunch, Sirage and Luis substituted a beautiful small vessel sink/vanity from Home Depot (actually we liked it better than the one we selected). The tiles, grout, paint, wainscoting, chair rail molding, and the recessed lights (all Sirage's idea) were all high quality and professionally installed. They finished at 5:30 p.m. on 10/16 as I was heading out the door to pick up my sister and her husband. They cleaned up the entire family room and the downstairs was immaculate when we arrived home.
Description of Work: This was a complete remodeling of two bathrooms--ripping out the entire old bathroom and adding new floor, new tiles, new fixtures etc.

Globe's owner/manager, Adem, provided excellent service from estimate through finishing details. He responded immediately to our call and was at the house to meet with us within a few days. The whole process was efficient and painless because he knows what he's doing and he's customer-oriented. Adem was candid, responsive, and very accurate in his estimates of completion time. His showroom offers a wide selection and he was helpful with good suggestions as we selected tile, cabinets, and fixtures. The work crew headed by Luis was also terrific -- very considerate of our time and our household, polite, friendly, and very skilled. They arrived promptly, began work at 8:30 am each day, and worked steadily through the day, often more than 8 hours. It's clear that the work schedule is well-organized and highly efficient. We were pleasantly surprised by the overall neatness of the job; Luis's team keep the worksite very clean and respect the homeowners. Adem checked in with his crew and with us daily, looking over the work and making sure everything was progressing according to plan. The two projects together were completed in about three weeks' time. We were so pleased that we have hired Globe to renovate our kitchen as well, and that project will get underway in a few weeks.
Description of Work: Renovated two bathrooms -- a master bath and a hall bath. The rooms were gutted down to the studs and completely rebuilt, with new vanities, fixtures, plumbing, electrical, stone flooring and tiling, and painting. In the master bath they moved an interior wall to give us extra shower space and a bench - which also required a modification to a skylight shaft.

The service was excellent. Adem came to my house and gave me an accurate estimate that was lower than any other I had obtained. What's more, he stuck to it. The plumber was also very good. He did his work quickly and efficiently. The shower enclosure is top quality and was fitted securely by Jeff, who knew exactly what he was doing. The patching up work was done so well that, after I had painted over it, there was no trace that anything had been done. In total, this was an excellent job well done. I should add that, contrary to what some reports say, I found Adem to be very accessible and always within reach when I needed to talk to him. In fact, it was often me who was hard to obtain, as I have a very busy job. I really can't find fault with the service I received from him and his colleagues.
Description of Work: I needed the shower adjoining my bedroom to be refurbished. The plumbing had to be replaced; a new shower head was fitted, and new controls installed for manipulating volume and temperature. In addition, I wanted a new shower enclosure. The old one was removed, and a completely new glass enclosure was fitted. It was a more complex job than it sounds because in order to get to the pipework, the plumber needed to but a four-foot hole in my bedroom wall. That was then patched up after the plumbing was finished.

We met with Adem in his showroom. After reviewing the specs and options, we re-worked the quote to include changes in tile, vanity and cabinets. He was very upfront about timing and cost of materials. Luis and Crew showed up on time and were meticulous in their work. The bathrooms were completed on time and are now the showpieces of the condo.
Description of Work: Tear out a full bathroom and a half bath. Rebuild each from the subfloor to finish surfaces. Install ceramic tiles on floors in both bathrooms. Install a tub and tile the walls in the full bathroom. Install vanity, toilets, pedestal sink and wall mounted storage. Paint and finish the bathrooms.

Prompt telephone response. Very polite. emailed estimate. called back to find if I had selected a contractor. Offered to discount the job since I was an Angies List member. Arrived at a mutually agreeable price within my budget. Arrived at the site on time on the agreed date. The whole process was clean. Drop cloths throughout the walk space and work space. Cleaned up after themselves. The job was completed within two days although he had promised three. The workers were wonderfully polite. Very responsive to small changes. They worked clean. An absolute pleasure to work with. This company will be getting my business again.

We were in a hurry to renovate our master bathroom because we wanted the shower pan fixed and the entire bathroom renovated before we put our house on the market. Adem at Globe met with us on fairly short notice, gave us an estimate (which was lower than the others), and started work promptly as we requested. He gave us good advice on the tile, fixtures, etc. We were very pleased with the speed and thoroughness of their work, and the finished product is beautiful.
Description of Work: Globe renovated our master bathroom. Adem provided advice on tile and fixtures. They removed the existing shower tile, replaced the leaky shower pan, tiled the shower, removed the wall tile in the main part of the bathroom, prepared and painted the walls, put down new floor tile, and installed all the fixtures (ceiling fan, toilet, vanity, pedestal sink, shower doors).

Adem is often slow to return calls and emails so you need to be proactive and stay on top of him. We also had to resend him our choices for vanity, faucet, etc multiple times. However, we did prefer Adem over some of the other contractors we were considering since he was upfront and gave us suggestions, but he let us make the final call. We found that talking to the subcontractor, Luis, which Adem encouraged, helped resolve a lot of issues. Luis and his crew were clean and did a good job. In the end, the bathroom turned out amazing.
Description of Work: We hired GBK Remodeling, managed by a contractor named Adem, to remodel our bathroom in our 1920’s federal row house. We got several bids from other contractors, but decided to go with Adem because his company had remodeled our kitchen two years ago and they did a good job. Adem’s bid was competitive too, but more importantly he was willing to work within our budget and was willing to let us do some of the work ourselves. We tiled the shower and floor and primed and painted to save some money. Adem uses subcontractors, and the one Adem gave for us was led by Luis. Luis and his crew did a great job and were very professional. They arrived on time most days, cleaned up at the end of the day, including vacuuming our stairwell after they removed their tarps. They even stayed late a few times; one night until after 8pm to finish up the day’s work. We had our bathroom completely gutted and had the plumbing and electrical replaced. Given the limited size (5X8), we kept the same layout, and we replace our standard door replaced with a pocket door in order to open up the space. In addition, we had them replace the old window in the bathroom, as well as add recess lighting with dimmers. The plan was to get the bathroom done in two weeks, with us tiling on the first weekend. The carpenters started demolition on April 27, but due to a family emergency the plumber was on able to work on the day he was scheduled and work didn’t start up again until April 30th. On May 8th, the bathroom was ready for us to tile. It took us three days to tile and grout, and then the remaining work was done by Luis and his crew. The projected was completed May 21st.

The results are just what we had envisioned. GBK's Adem was easy to work with and very responsive. He was good about getting back to us in a timely fashion, usually the same day. We often communicated via email, which suited our busy work and family schedules. Adem was very honest and straightforward, even when discussing his pricing. We felt he was always being upfront with us and never felt like we were being snowed. We also felt that GBK was dedicated to doing the work correctly. In fact, they made sure to correct a plumbing error by a prior contractor and didn't charge us extra. While Adem preferred to use materials for which he is a supplier (obviously easier for him and probably cheaper for his customers), he was very good about working with us to use the finish materials we wanted. For example, we choose cabinets from a different manufacturer and composite quartz countertops (i.e., Caesarstone), versus the granite that he could supply. Additionally we had him source doors to match doors we have elsewhere in the house. In each case, it was a good experience working with him. He also had no trouble with having us supply some of the finish items so we could get the exact look we wanted. His crew was hardworking, working some long hours to keep the job moving. We've dealt with a large remodeling company in the past and they worked strictly from 7:30 to 3:30 with often just one worker on the job, which made that work stretch out for what seemed like forever. The crew was in reality subcontractors to GBK, but Adem uses them so frequently that from the customer's perspective, it's pretty transparent. We were impressed with the way the crew cleaned up the affected areas of the house each day and how responsive everyone was when we noticed any problems or items needing correction. The work took roughly the amount of time Adem estimated, though there were delays due to a mix up ordering the countertops, but to be fair that was more the fault of the supplier than of GBK. Overall, we recommend GBK. Their work is good and price is fair. (To wit, the large remodeler we used for other areas of our house previously gave a quote to remodel our master bath for about the same price GBK did both our bathrooms. We got other quotes at the same time as GBK's, and their price was in line with the other quotes we got.)
Description of Work: We had GBK remodel our master bathroom and an additional upstairs bathroom. We also had them replace the doors to our bedrooms and closets to match items installed elsewhere in our house by another contractor during previous renovations. The master bath work included removal of an interior (non-load-bearing) wall and old closet and installation of all new fixtures and finishes, including installation of new recessed lighting. The hall bath work was more straightforward but comprehensive, including gutting the room down to the studs and installation on all new fixtures and finishes, including installation of new recessed lighting and an exhaust fan. In both bathrooms, the tile work was very well done. Especially in the hall bath, where we had GBK do a subway tile wainscoting. In both bathrooms, GBK also did the painting. Note that some contractors don't want to get involved with that.

The remodeling project went very smoothly and without any problems. Adem and his crew were very professional. I had several contractors come by and give estimates for the work, and most were in the same ballpark in terms of price. However, Adem made me feel most at ease because he took a personal interest in the project and he was willing to invest time and effort in helping us to find the materials that would help us achieve the look we wanted before asking us to sign a contract. Other contractors (from larger companies) were more interested in getting on to the next job. The original estimate from Globe was a fair bit lower than the revised estimate we received, but this was due to additional materials and labor necessary to do everything we wanted, as opposed to the bare minimum. Once we had settled on the work to be done and materials to be used, Adem provided a revised estimate and we signed the contract. Throughout the process, Adem always answered my questions (both by phone and by email) promptly and professionally, and worked with me to find quality materials and fixtures at a reasonable price. His crew began the demolition in early July, and a majority of the work was done in 2-3 weeks. The few items that took longer involved a custom recessed cabinet (which needed special hardware for a flush-mount glass door) and installation of a light-fixture (which we ordered half-way through the project after learning that a recessed light would not fit due to the routing of some ductwork). But whenever there was an unforeseen problem (and anybody who knows about remodeling work knows that there are always unforeseen problems), Adem was quick to propose a solution and he always stayed within his revised estimate. In the end, the completed job came out much better than I had expected. Work was high quality, it was on time, and it was within budget. I would not hesitate to have Adem and his crew do work in our Georgetown row house again. He's straightforward, responsive, has a good sense of humor, and he takes a personal interest in getting the job done right.
Description of Work: Entire remodel of small master bathroom, including removal and replacement of tiled walls & floor; removal and replacement of exhaust fan and lighting; removal and replacement of cast iron tub with modern soaker tub; removal and replacement of old two-piece toilet with modern, low-volume toilet; replacement of old sink/vanity with contemporary vanity; fabrication of recessed cabinet with glass door; replacement of traditional door with pocket door.

Pretty well. I had used Adm previously for two much smaller jobs with less complicated orders, and there had been absolutely no glitches. The biggest glitch this time was a delay of several weeks because twice the cabinet manufacturer sent the wrong sink cabinets for our master bathroom, but that was not really Adam's fault. Because of the cabinet mess, he gave us granite instead of marble for our vanity top, but the granite needs to be sealed because it water spots. I keep meaning to call and tell him because I'm sure he'll figure out something.
Description of Work: Two small (each 5 x 7) bathrooms completely redone with new fixtures, tile, glass shower doors, etc. The fixtures were also relocated, so it was considerably more than cosmetic. One of the bathrooms was also expanded into a 5 x 10 by moving walls that had been a hallway and part of a closet. Then they built a 2.5 x 13 foot closet into another wall in the bedroom and moved cables, wiring and lighting.

Ultimately I went with another company, but I was very impressed with this company's professionalism and quick responsiveness to all my questions. Adem was very pleasant to deal with. I would definitely consider them for a future project.
Description of Work: I contacted this company in connection with a master bath remodeling project; new fixtures, tile, tub, shower, etc.

Globe was very responsive from the first contact. My call was returned quickly to set up an appointment for an estimate. A written estimate was provided within a few days and a second meeting was completed to finalize the details. This contractor's estimate was not the lowest or highest but they were the most responsive. The work was started and completed as discussed, including handling of permits. I received several 'status' calls, during the time that the work was being done. The quality of the work was very good, with only a few punch list items to take care of. The area was left generally clean and neat. I was very happy with the work.
Description of Work: Expanded a half bath to include a full shower, including drywall, plumbing and electrical work, flooring, inspections and final walkthrough. Also included drilling into concrete floor to run the shower drain as the room is on a slab.

The project started immediately. The crew were very polite and considerate and took great care to contain the mess. They cleaned thoroughly at the end of each work day. There was a little problem with finding the right size toilet for our small bathroom, but it was resolved quickly and added only a day or two to the project. Overall, the renovation took about two and half weeks and did not exceed the estimate. We are very happy with the final result and highly recommend Globe. They are affordable and hardworking and won't leave unless you are 100% satisfied.
Description of Work: Completely gutted our bathroom. Replaced shower tile, as well as all fixtures and installed new tub. Put in new dry wall. Replaced sink, vanity, mirror, hanging cabinet, and light fixture. Put in new floor tile. Replaced molding around skylight. Installed new threshold, filed down door to compensate. Took out radiator and replaced with baseboard heater. Painted bathroom and ceiling.

I was very impressed with the people I met from GBK. Their design work was terrific and they were very knowledgeable about their business. They proposed using Aristokraft cabinets (same line Sears uses), but were willing and able to do any custom work needed. While the designer initially proposed a much more sweeping renovation than I (or my budget) wanted, he quickly presented much more practical ideas once I explained what I was looking for and why I was renovating (to sell). Their estimate for the design we created was $21k + appliances (which I would buy and they would install). I ended up coming up with a simpler (albeit less exciting) design later and when I emailed Adem to get a new estimate based on my new design, I never heard back. I suspect they would not have been able to match the price I ultimately got. They never had a chance because Adem did not end up replying. I would certainly invite them back to bid on future work. They were great to work with.
Description of Work: I had GBK over to my condo on at least three separate occasions to help me design a new kitchen and to bid on the work. My project was a small, 100 sq ft kitchen that needed new cabinets, hardware, appliances and flooring. My target budget was $20,000. The first visit I met with Adem, who came to measure and take pictures, before turning over the design piece to his designer Larry, who was unavailable that day. Adem came back with Larry a week later and they did the design piece then with me present. Finally, they came back with their computer guy, who entered the specs into their modeling software, so they could show me what the finished product would look like.

Initially we were very impressed with Mr. Johnson who seemed quite knowledgeable and interested in the job. He gave a rough estimate of $65,000 for entire project. I had surgery the following month and told Mr. Johnson we would have to delay but were interested. We had Mr. Johnson back in July 2007 and told him we first wanted to have our bedroom remodel completed before starting the kitchen and flooring and that we wanted his company to do this work. He said he would get back to us with a contract. He called back in nine days, said he had been busy and would have a contract within another week. We never heard from him again. When he was measuring for our estimate, I mentioned Angie's List discount - which he laughed at, as well as the Senior Discount advertised on Globe's website. I wish now I had made a complaint about this, but he is a likable guy who had impressed us. Guess we were fooled.
Description of Work: Met Larry Johnson from Globe at a Home Show in Maryland in March 2007. We asked for an estimate when he called several weeks later for a master bedroom closet remodel; kitchen remodel; hardwood flooring for entire first floor.

It was one of the best remodeling experiences we've ever had! The contractor, Mr. Adem provided excellent customer service. He was very dependable and knowledgeable about bathroom design. Also, the person that did the work, Mr. Veney was excellent. He was very skilled and our bathroom looks great, especially the tile work. He was also very neat and kept the work area very clean. The entire job was done in less than 3 weeks. We would not hesitate to use this company again and I would highly recommend them to others.
Description of Work: We had our bathroom upgraded. We had new decorative ceramic tile installed in the shower and around the bathtub, and also the following installations; a new ceramic tile floor, a new seamless glass shower door, new ceiling light, new granite counter top with sinks for the double vanity, and a new light fixture over the vanity.

Excellent! Globe was my low bidder and I initially had concerns about going with the low bid. Adem from Globe oversaw the work from start to finish. Each of the work crews were expert - tile workers, gutting crew, floor refinishers, cabinet installers, etc. The job was finished on budget and on time.
Description of Work: Remodel kitchen and two bathrooms, new cabinets, new appliances, new jacuzzi + shower stall, new hardwood floor in kitchen, relocate back entrance to house.
