I would not recommend Verizon FIOS and will be choosing another service provider when we move in June. The internet is decent, but the TV service is terrible. The on demand feature is constantly offline. We frequently cannot watch on demand at all - and this is a very frequent, persistent problem, where we are given an error maybe 1/4 or 1/5 tries. The shows provided on demand seem to change daily, with episodes constantly appearing and disappearing. One of our boxes fried a couple months ago and we had to get another. The customer service rep we spoke with hard-rebooted our modem without telling us what he was going to do, and my husband had to spend time resetting our network security as a result. We did receive the new box quickly and were able to send the old one back without paying any shipping. The billing is terrible. Verizon really pushes the "automatic" billing, but I don't give companies credit card info, on principle. I expect to receive a monthly bill, especially since the amount due changes slightly each month and I don't exactly keep track of the address to send a payment. The first bill I got covered 2 months, the second covered 2 months, and the third didn't reach me until after 3 months, with service being turned off before payment reached them. Then the lady on the phone was very condescending, like I'm trying to rip them off, and tried to get my credit info for automatic billing. Since then I've been paying through my bank's online bill payment feature, and that's gone well since Verizon does a much better job of providing e-bills than paper bills. I still don't have to give them any info that allows them to proactively take money out of my account. We would have discontinued service and switched to cable after our contract was up in Nov 2012, but the time off work for the switch and the fact that our remaining lease was for less than a year kept us from doing so. We will never, ever use Verizon again in future.

I said look this is what I have, you give me what I have for less money than what I'm paying and I'll switch. And they said that it would. But as soon I found out it wouldn't, I cancelled it. They never even did anything. This happened within a couple of hours. I don't know what the problem is, I have 3 batteries and it comes and goes I'm still using the same phone. When you don't talk on the phone for a day and your phone's down with two bars. Everybody who has the same phone and I've talked to has the same problem. So there's some problem with the phone. It was under warranty so I got it for free. I've been with them from 1995 and that it when I got my first cell phone and they had the best service area where you cant get service just about anywhere. But it's true. My son has switched many times and he keeps telling that to Verizon so. There are certain things we don't like about the pricing. We have this same plan for ever and we're about to change because neither my wife nor I have smart phones. But we were both thinking at least one of us must have it but I don't like the way the pricing of that it. But I avoid going to the stores at the weekend. I hate that fact that they're always trying to sell you something but I understand that. They're almost looking like they're monopolizing.
Description of Work: I almost switched to Verizon and then they lied to me. So I decided not to get that. The last time I went to Verizon was to replace my phone's battery which keeps dying.

My husband prefers it more than I do, and I can't wait to switch over to my old provider. Verizon files runs on a different provider's cable. Our billing is $169 a month and it's a bundled service. At first they gave us the bundled price and later the price started inching up. For service, I can't get them to come out immediately, but once they get here they are professional. I personally would not use them if I had to, but my husband would use them in the future.

I called on Friday and again on Saturday, and, after waiting on hold forever, was told that they couldn't get a technician to my house until Tuesday the 13th. I was offered a 1:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m. appointment range, and asked if there was anything available in the morning. I was told no, but I could take an "open" appointment, which meant that the technician would come between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. She said that sometimes the technicians finished early and could get to some appts in the morning. I asked for that, since there was a chance of getting someone earlier, and, by my reasoning, I would still have a repairman at my house by 5:00 p.m. either way. Of course, nobody showed up in the morning; I knew that was a crapshoot, anyway, so I wasn't surprised. Afternoon passes...5:00 p.m. comes and goes. I haven't even received a phone call from anyone, although I did receive a text message earlier in the afternoon confirming that a repairman would be at my house by 5:00 p.m. At 6:00 p.m. I called to find out what was going on, and, upon hearing my complaint that the technician had had NINE HOURS to be on time for my appointment, was given a litany of excuses, and a scolding, for my not being understanding about how busy they were!! This, when I should have received an abject, sincere apology that I had taken off a whole day of work and been tied to my house waiting for them. Nobody could even have picked up the phone to call me and say they were running behind?? At least I could have accomplished something other than twiddling my thumbs waiting for them. I got tired of listening to how they were so busy, and I should be "understanding," blah, blah, blah. Their lack of ability to properly schedule their appointments is entirely their fault; I only accepted the appointment that was offered to me, I didn't demand a particular date or time. I asked for Customer Service. I spoke with Ms. Taylor, who, after I prompted her to offer me some kind of compensation for the lack of service I'd experienced, granted me a two week credit on the phone bill portion of my monthly charges. This amounts to about $15. Wow, like that's even close to compensating me for missing a whole day of work (I make a lot more than that in a day, to say the least.) Between the land line, cable, internet and cell phone bills, Verizon gets about $400 a month from us. Their $15 is a slap in the face, but, as I told her, "I'll take it; it's not much, but it's better than a sharp stick in the eye, I guess." At 7:00 p.m. I received a phone call from the technician, who asked me if I could wait until morning for him to come by. I advised him that I had been waiting since 8:00 a.m., and he was supposed to have arrived sometime between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., and I absolutely could NOT take another day off to wait for him. He showed up about a half an hour later, and it took him 45 minutes to an hour to fix the phone. He was a very nice young man, and I told him I was very grateful that he made it at all. He said, "Yes, Ma'am...and I didn't get your work ticket until 6:00 p.m." So, based upon that, I'm guessing that the guy I first spoke to at 6:00 p.m., who had the audacity to berate me for not being "understanding" about how busy they were after I had waited all freaking day realized that my repair wasn't even on their schedule and sent it to the technician right after I spoke to him. The company's measly $15 credit doesn't come close to compensating me for the incredible inconvenience and incomparable rudeness I received. I have a lot to deal with right now, but as soon as I have some time, I will be looking into changing everything back to Cox. They had a few issues here and there, but they surely never had the audacity to scold me for their incompetence.
Description of Work: Telephone had a background dial tone on it since the storm on Thursday, making it impossible to hear people or for them to hear us. I called on Friday to ask for service, ran through their gauntlet of automated attempts to identify the problem, then got a person who had me test all the phones in the house, then go outside and test the box. All worked, so we knew it was an inside wire issue. I've been paying for inside wire maintenance for 20+ years, thank goodness, so at least this cluster didn't cost me any extra money, although, considering how much of my time was wasted, it might have been a better option. When the technician finally showed up, it was repaired within an hour. The repairman was very pleasant, and most competent, which is why they received an "A" in Quality.

Bottom line, they have a great product (signal strength, clarity of picture, etc.) and the worst possible customer service you can imagine. Quick overview: 1) they wouldn't give me (a 3 year customer) the same good deal as new customers when it was time to renew, 2) when cable signal was lost I could not get them to respond to fix it. They put you in a continuous loop of CS reps who only apologize but don't help, 3) finally ended service with them and they continued to bill me after services ceased, 4) they sent a technician (who was great, by the way) to remove their equipment but he showed up without an appt or a pre-call, 5) finally had to threaten them with a certified letter that I would be posting on Angie's list, calling the state Attorney's General, filing with the BBB and filing a suit in District Court. Even with that, they never responded. Absolute worst CS company I've ever dealt with.

I have had FIOS for a couple of years now and have generally been satisfied, but had a bad experience when I recently tried to re-bundle to get one of the offered lower rates. I communicated on-line with an agent who looked at my current rate and supposedly gave me a better rate on the combined package. I should have checked my bill to confirm that the rate was, in fact, better, but didn't, so this is really a case of 'buyer beware'. When I received the e-mail confirmation it turns out my new, 'better' rate was the same monthly rate I had been paying and they also charged me for the 'new' service as a partial-month charge. When I called Verizon to find out what was going on I went around and around with the agent, who said that if she canceled the bundle I would have to pay an early termination fee of $360.00. When I pointed out that Verizon's own fine print said that cancellations within 30 days would not be charged this fee, she back-peddled. The long and the short of it, after over an hour of futile conversation, was that she said there was nothing she could do, but she would forward the info on to the Finance office and they would make a determination about the additional pro-rated charge. The final word is, if you are a long-term loyal customer of Verizon you will never get any future pricing breaks.

I have used Verizon for many years for my landline and low speed Internet DSL service. I have had few problems with either service. At one point I was losing my internet connection with the DSL modem that Verizon had provided me with the service. I ended up replacing the modem with one that I bought, and service is once again good. I didn't appreciate that I had to buy my own modem to fix the service. In retrospect the problem may have been more from turning the modem off when the computer was off (to save energy) than from the modem. Now I leave the modem on (wasting energy) but eliminating any service problems. Compared to others I know I pay less for phone and Internet service. I have a phone service plan where I pay by the call. I don't make many calls, so it's cheaper than buying an unlimited calling plan. I also get the lower speed DSL service. Together they cost less than $40 per month. I may have to reconsider the DSL speed at some point, because I think Internet content is getting more massive and my connection may begin to seem slow. I think I locked in a lifetime rate on the DSL service and that it's only about $18 per month. I've been pretty happy with the service. I always look for ways to get cheaper service and have been pretty successful with Verizon.

Is there anything lower than an F? Prolonged phone waits with each call. Service promised between 8 and 12. Arrived well after 1. Technician stated "I was never told there was a time I was expected to be there." Refused to give estimated time of repair. Left almost immediately w/o communication. Finished the job (apparently) and never told me, so I waited another half hour until I discovered by accident that service was restored. Multiple people on the phone gave me consistently bad and/or unhelpful information, usually proceeded with a snarky "I apologize...., but...." Worst service EVER from a national vendor. If I wouldn't lose a lot of money breaking my contract, I'd be off Verizon in a heartbeat.

We switched to them when they started operations in our area which was about 2 years ago. Their technical service is very good. The phone is always working well. The internet is very fast. The cable works flawlessly in terms of channels. We were using another service earlier and my wife wanted to switch to any other provider that came along. Verizon has been excellent. Their marketing skills are not very good. They don’t sell us any new options. I find new channels by accident. The hardware is very good. It is amazing to come across a company that is so good technically but has such poor marketing skills. It is like dealing with 2 different companies. The technical operation is superb but the business operation is abysmal. Their billing is very bad. I will continue to use them because I do not have another decent choice.

Technical aspects of telephone/internet service are fine. However, customer service is abysmal. In the past, I tried to set up automatic payments. They botched that too, and it took me several weeks and many hours on the phone to get THAT straightened out. I will never let them near my credit card or bank accounts again. Can't reach them by telephone . Can't get into my account on verizon.com. I give up, and plan to find another provider.
