Services we don't offer
We do not do simple patch up, replacement or repair work. We do not do work that traditionally one would hire a handyman for. We don't do sheds.
Phoenix saved the day after another contractor left us high and dry. We were looking to build a screened in porch and hired a contractor to do so, but they disappeared halfway through the project. We called Phoenix and Clint came out and got us an estimate quickly. Their pricing was reasonable and the quality of their work seemed top notch, so we decided to go with them and couldn?t be happier with our decision. They took great care of us and our screened in porch looks amazing! We were so impressed with their work, we also had them build us a beautiful flagstone patio and a flagstone walkway. We would happily recommend Phoenix to anybody and have already done so to several of our friends, for whom Phoenix has already installed beautiful projects.

The company was very professional, and provided high quality work. The guys who did the work were very professional, and an expert in their field. I would happily use them again, and would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Installed flagstone cover over front porch, and sidewalk.
We have worked with Phoenix in the past and we were happy with their work. Still, we were careful to get other estimates for the porch. Clint came out and had an extended discussion about our needs and about the requirements of code and the choices in materials. Within a few days he showed us a design that included an archway over the front door. We were so impressed with the design and the way it would change the front of the house that we built this into our requirements. We have a Cape Cod style home, and there are a few in our neighborhood who have really improved the look of their homes with a front porch. Phoenix was not the cheapest, but when we asked the competitors to price in maintenance-free materials (decking, railing, and posts that won't have to be painted or coated) the prices began to come together. We were most pleased with Clint's understanding of the design, and what would fit well with this neighborhood. It seemed like other competitors needed to be coached by us about archways and the look of the railings. The job was managed by Jose, and he sent two day-to-day carpenters. There was a bit of a language barrier, but I must say that their workmanship was outstanding. It was clear from watching them work that they have huge experience -- not a wasted movement, every cut went right from the saw to the house without a flaw, and the fit and attention to detail were superb. They originally estimated that they would be finished in two weeks. In reality, with a demanding home inspector, they took the better part of four. The final project was a masterpiece. Cars slow down as they pass our house. The lawn service team took out their cell phones and took a picture before they cut our lawn. Our neighbors from several streets over come by to chat about the porch, and it was the discussion at a recent civic association. I credit Clint with coming up with a design that blended particularly well with the architecture of the house and the style of houses in the neighborhood.
Description of Work: New front porch. Demolish old front deck, break up old concrete. Build new porch the length of the front wall (about 40 X 7 feet). Extend the roof over the porch, install railings and new stairs, extend concrete walkway to width of the new stairway, install roofing and integrate with the existing roof, install new gutters and drainage system, install lighting and three outdoor outlets. Install two ceiling fans. Install a mortared rock face wall on the front at ground level.

[member name removed], I am so very happy to hear that. We take a lot of pride in what we do, and always make sure our clients are pleased. I hope you and the Mrs. enjoy the beautiful porch, especially during the Holidays. It's a gorgeous addition to the home. Again, I sincerely appreciate the kind words, and if I can help out with anything in the future, feel free to contact me anytime. Enjoy the Holidays!

What does one want from a building contractor? How about designing what you want and not what they want? Clint at Phoenix Home Services did just that. He listened, and took the time needed to create a design that my wife and I wanted. Clint never said no to any of our requests. He found a way to create exactly what we were looking for. He even represented us at our HOA meeting to ensure that any questions raised about the project were accurately represented. Of course his performance elevated our expectations of the company. How could the construction phase be as seamless as the design phase? It was. From the supervisors to the workers, everyone took pride in what they did, and everyone worked to ensure that our expectations were being met. Positive communication is a hallmark of this company. The project started on time, and proceeded on a daily basis until completed. The site was cleaned daily and the project, a portico with a full porch, was completed in such a way that it looked like it had always been there. The design and craftsmanship resulted in an architecturally exquisite structure that enhanced the look of our home. This isn?t a one-man operation. Each craftsman had expertise in the task they performed. There were finishing touches suggested by our project manager (Jose) to add architectural accents to the project as it was being completed. These truly enhanced the beauty of the porch and did so in a way that fit into our existing structure as well as maintaining a look that clearly belonged in our community. It should also be noted that Jose had an uncanny ability to take care of any construction needs before we could even point them out. If you?re looking for a reliable, competent, creative and thoughtful company with what I felt had competitive pricing (as well as completing the project on time and within budget), look no further then Phoenix Home Services. I can say we are extremely happy with the portico/porch and that we enjoy it more then we had originally anticipated. Each of our neighbors have also told us how beautiful it is. Our only regret is that we don?t have another project for Phoenix to work on at this time.

The initial meeting Clint showed up on time. Immediately he began asking about lot coverage requirements, which I did not know the answers too. He continued on and went over what kind of estimate we had asked for. He spent maybe 10 mins max with us and didn't ask questions to find out more about what we wanted. He told us he was going to check on permits with Fairfax county and get back to us with a plan. I was very turned off by this first interaction but we gave him the benefit of the doubt. The only positive for Clint was that he was very responsive and got back to us within two days. At first this way great, but quickly turned annoying. He came back at a quote of $75k. Which we said we did not want to spend that and would like to remove portions of his plan. He did and came back at $57k for a patio with portico, firepit and built in grill. When we responded telling him we did not want to spend that and were contemplating going with our builders deck quote, he responded that we should have told him that at the beginning so he didn't waste 10 hours. What an awful response! Aren't you trying to win our business! At this point we stopped responding as we have no interest in moving on with this company. Then comes another note from Clint telling us to send him pictures if we use his plan. Really???? Now you think we are just going to use your plan done by someone else. My boyfriend responds saying he is extremely busy with work and can't deal with him but this is not the way to win someones business. Then Clint responds telling us he can't win our business no matter what because he's past January backlog. What?? So after being rude, condescending, and unprofessional YOU are telling US we can't potentially use your company because we can't book in January. Overall very disappointed in the service from this company and would not recommend them.

(Removed Member Name), I am so very sorry you feel that way. Our initial meeting took about 30 minutes or more. We could not go into the home in the freezing weather because it is still being built. I would have stood out there with you as long as you wanted. You were very cold and 30 minutes was more than enough time. Even to the point where I knew you boyfriend because it's a small world. You seemed very pleased with our first meeting. Enough to immediately send me your plat and tell me exactly what you wanted. We even spoke about finishes in your home. I told you about how much a project like the one I proposed would cost. You agreed you wanted a screened-in porch, fireplace, and patio. Once I told you the range, you said move forward with finding out if we can build it and prepare a design for us. I went to the county, checked the lot coverage, checked the setbacks, and even told your boyfriend the builder had been giving him the runaround about your lot coverage. I designed the project and your boyfriend loved it! He even asked if we could mount a TV and run speaker conduit. After you saw the design, you wanted a portico and patio. He gave me a price range to hit because he claimed he had a lot of expenses. I hit that price range, and then he, or you, told me you were entertaining the builder for this project. James told me in our initial meeting, and I quote, "the builder is over charging us for a small deck and we will not work with them." I went to the county, checked everything, did 2 different very detailed designs, negotiated pricing, and then I received an email completely contradicting what James had told me during our first meeting. It caught me off guard. The only thing I look forward to in this business is designing and building beautiful projects for my clients to enjoy. Which is why our reputation is among the best out there. Regardless of our meeting or how you view Phoenix and me. I wish you the best with your home, future projects, and will still help in anyway possible if you request my assistance. Enjoy the holidays.

You received a proposal on September 11, 2014. Weeks and weeks went by and we we're 6-8 weeks back by that time. It's a masonry project that involves footers, plans, permits, and inspections. It's important to dig footers and pour concrete during suitable weather. You mentioned you were not moving forward with the project even though the price was solid and the proposal was very thorough. You were actually referred to us by one of your friends. After explaining in detail you want these projects installed during great Fall weather for the concrete to cure properly, and weeks went by, backlog grew, you then told me you're not moving forward. We would check in once a week and follow-up trying to answer questions and help out in anyway. I apologize if you felt you were pressured, but Winter is Winter, and look, it's below freezing the past few days, and we would have been installing your project in this weather or pushing back till the Spring, which you would not have liked. I hope things turned out great, and since our quality and installation process is second to none, hopefully you will entertain future bids from us, as one of your close friends did. They're enjoying their project and refer us to all of their friends.

I had an appointment on Oct. 30 at 3:00pm. Nobody showed up. I called the next day and they claimed they had try to call me since the estimator was sick. They claimed my phone was disconnected but I was using the same cell phone to call them. This just wasn't true. I told them I had to file a report by 11/2, so they promised to meet me at 3:00pm on Saturday 11/1. Once again, they stood me up!! Nobody answered their phone, so now I cannot get a contractor to give me a quote for repairs and I am just screwed. REALLY UNPROFESSIONAL and uncaring!!
Description of Work: I called because they had good Angie ratings. They were supposed to come to a home and give an estimate for water damage repair and foundation cracking. This was for a possible home purchase.

We love our clients and always strive to make sure they are taken care of when dealing with us on any level. We contacted you initially, but you provided a number that was not working when we tried to call it. We rescheduled for another day once you contacted us back. We then needed to push the meeting back just an hour or so, left a message, and no one called back. We finally got a hold of you 2 days later and we were told, "we already have a contractor for the project." You're now stating that you have none and you're "screwed." This was a simple case of miscommunication because a phone was not working once, and you not getting back to us the second time. I can promise you this is not indicative of the way we operate at all. If you look at all of our reviews on here, you can clearly see we care very much about our clients. If there is anything I can do to help out in the future, let me know. I feel like something this simple could've have been fixed and handled easily. Either way, I hope things worked out well for you!

We had a terrible experience with them. It took almost a year to do a deck that should have been done in six weeks. They changed our contractors about three times. They kept having reasons why somebody couldn't show up or somebody could show up. It was just not consistent. They finally got it done. It wasn't exactly what we wanted, but we were just happy having it done. It was awful. We will never recommend them. We wouldn't use them again.

This company was a no show. I am really disappointed. They came highly recommended from a close friend of mine who got her patio done by this company. I called Friday afternoon and left a voice mail I also then messaged them through Angie's list hoping that on Tuesday, I would've at least gotten an explanation of what went wrong. They didn't even bother to give me that courtesy.

We had an old, plain, square front walkway on our house that was in need of an upgrade. We called Phoenix to set up an appointment with them for the weekend. Clint came out to see us and was very friendly and knowledgeable. He suggested a different shape for our walkway and even sent us a nice 3D design of it with our estimate. He also recommended travertine instead of flagstone because he thought it would match the color of our house better. We got the walkway and also covered our porch with the same material so everything matches. It looks great! We're glad we decided to go with Phoenix and we would highly recommend them.

High quality work and materials. The crew worked with various issues that came up, all within the fixed contract price. When issues later came up with the pump battery draining too quickly, the company stood behind its warranty and came out several times to fix the problem. They eventually added an additional pump and did fairly extensive electrical work under the warranty. The extra cost over other companies that do egress windows was worth it because of the quality of materials (a concrete well versus pre-fab plastic or metallic) and the promise to come up with solutions for unexpected situations.

Visited their booth at the Home and Garden Show at the Dulles Expo Center and scheduled an appt for Sunday afternoon the following weekend at 4pm. We were at another event on Sunday but rushed home to be there in time to meet them for the quote, but no one showed up. I called them at around 4:30, they said they had called and left a message saying they needed to cancel due to the weather (it was raining). My phone had not rang and the message never materialized. We re-scheduled for the following Sunday at 2pm. Again, a no-show! At 3:15pm my phone rang and the gentlemen from Phoenix said that the rep from their company would not be able to make it to our (4:30) appt due to feeling ill. I told him that I was expecting them at 2pm not 4:30 and declined to reschedule. Clearly they thought this job was not worth their time or effort, and wasted two of MY Sunday afternoons by no-showing twice!

We now have a screened porch which we hope to enjoy with family and friends throughout the warmer months. However, our experience with Phoenix was less than satisfactory. The screened porch is the only home improvement project that we are dissatisfied with of the several we have contracted in the last few years; although it is, by far, the most expensive. No aspect of the project (planning, personnel assignments, workmanship and attention to detail, site tidiness and clean up, adherence to contract terms, accuracy and timeliness of communications) met our expectations. Nor would they meet the expectations of any reasonable consumer. A few details are provided below. Communication was poor. Except to secure final payment, we never received an initiating call or email from Phoenix unless we had called alerting them of an issue or problem requiring their attention. Our contract called for completion in "10-14 days from start date with inspections." Demolition began in mid-October; a final inspection occured on January 10. Construction proceeded in fits and starts, with multiple crew changes. We never knew on any given day whether anyone would show up for work or not. On many fair weather days no one showed or called at all. On Friday, November 8 the construction crew punctured a gas line. The crew didn't seem to know what to do. In fact, the crew attempted to bury the ruptured line with dirt, a significant safety error, and then stood around smoking. Again no communication or follow up from Phoenix management. In addition in the course of construction, an electric wire which provides electricity to our family room was severed and a hole was made in the corner of our family room ceiling. Electricity was subsequently restored, and a drywall repair was made. But we will still need to paint in our family room to complete the repair. Piles of debris remained in our backyard throughout the three month construction period. In short, we would not consider Phoenix Home Services for a future project, nor would we recommend Phoenix to our neighbors.

I recently used Phoenix Home Services for a major patio effort. In the front yard they expanded my driveway to 2 cars, created a small retaining wall so I could plant a garden and installed a new flagstone walkway leading to a new front patio at the entrance of my home. They also excavated an old concrete slab patio in the rear of the house and added a two level flagstone patio that connects my dining room door to my family room door and spans the whole back of the house. My POC for this project was Steve Bowes. He came to the house multiple times to help understand what we wanted, design the work and take measurements for the estimate. He offered suggestions and alternative ideas to save costs without sacrificing overall aesthetics and quality. The work was scheduled 6 weeks out and was only delayed one week which was due to inclement weather. The work was completed expediently and professionally. The craftsmanship was excellent and the crew cleaned up after themselves (always a pet peeve of mine when they don't) When we asked for some follow up work to further sand and round the edges of the walkway steps they came back within a day or two to finish up. There were no cost increases and Phoenix held to the original estimate. Both patios and the walkway look great and within a day of finishing I had two neighbors knock on my door and ask who did the work. I would definitely recommend Phoenix for this type of work.

Phoenix did a horrible job on our fence. Here are the list of mistakes they made: 1) They crossed into my neighbors property line (Even though they new the line) 2) We required gothic fences, with points. They forgot after the job was done and nailed fake ends on them. They started falling off, so they came back and glued them on. I asked them to replace it, but they refused. 3) The Patio, the stone they used was cheap and had rust all over it. I would avoid them if you can.

The estimate I got from Phoenix was the most expensive of the four I got, but it covered far more work than the other 3 did, parging and installing drainage for the entire side and back of my house where I had drainage issues, plus putting in a small drywell in the front and connecting the front downspouts. The job had no delays other than those related to weather. The workers cleaned up after themselves each day and put up caution tape as needed when there was a trench at the end of the day, which we really appreciated. The job included replacing a 13 year-old sump pump in the basement window well. The pump failed (completely unrelated to the work being done) during a downpour just after the job started, and our basement carpet was soaked. I freaked out and Steve at Phoenix was kind enough to have the lead guy on the job, Jose, come out the next morning and help tear the carpet out. The job also included working around the deck in our backyard. Jose pulled up the board and some of the joists and dug a trench all they way down along that wall. He even power washed the deck after he put it back together. Jose and his crew were amazing. They were really efficient and very clean, especially considering how messy it is to dig down 7 or 8 feet in orange clay. The last thing they did was seed the yard and put down straw. I think that in spring my yard will look better than it has during the entire 20 years I've lived here.
Description of Work: Applied waterproof coating to exterior of foundation walls, installed new drainage system with drywell, connected downspouts to drywell, regraded yard

Wonderful. Phoenix delivered what they said when they said. They were very professional and accommodating for changes that came up through the project. We are very happy.
Description of Work: Phoenix poured a concrete patio, sidewalk and installed 2 retaining walls to make the backyard useable. All hard surfaces were covered in stone.

It took them awhile to contact me initially then they had to reschedule first appointment because guy was ill, but he showed up on time for the second appointment. I thought the estimate was high and they did not provide a detailed breakdown of the costs just provided a lump sum for the entire job. I did receive the estimate the next day. He acted as if the permitting process took a long time but after going to Fairfax County's website. Most permits can be issued same day.
Description of Work: Provided an estimate to replace front porch
