+ -1 moreInterstate person (Luis) kept constant dialog with me, actually teaching me on maintenance I could do myself. he was very friendly and highly competent in his work. just a great person to work with. the price was high to me but i do not have a conparison to make that judgement.
Description of Work: Annual contract spring startup and repair as necessary. Interstate personnel identified a problem i was having with system not working. He almost immediately identified what the problem was (missing auto shut off for rain) and crawled under new deck to find missing parts (deck contractor threw shut off under deck rather than re-installing).

+ -1 moreThe salesman who called and made the appointment for my free quote was very professional. Once at our home, he answered my questions thoroughly and I never felt rushed. He even took off his shoes in my house which I appreciated. I had 3 other quotes and Interstate's was very competitive. They have been in business for more than 18 years so that was important to me considering many new irrigation companies have come and gone. I especially liked that someone in the office answers the phone - no need to leave a message; this was not the case with many other companies I called. I will be able to choose my installation date which I like and the lighting design was incredible. I will be going with Interstate once Spring arrives to install the systems and would highly recommend this company. I will update my review once the installation is completed.

Custom adjusted all the sprinkler heads to my satisfaction, reviewed times per zone for spring and summer. They also noted a leak where my water line comes in and repaired it - saving me a lot of money on my monthly water bill. Crew arrived a bit early which was terrific. Excellent service and reasonable rates for annual contract.

+ -1 moreInterstate has been fantastic. Their staff is very knowledgeable and they are flexible on scheduling appointments. They work quickly and efficiently and always let me know if there are issues with my system (which is about 13 years old). I switched to another provider for one season that had a special deal but they were awful compared to Interstate so I promptly switched back and have no plans to do that again. I highly recommend them for sprinkler systems. I have not used them for landscape lighting.
Description of Work: Interstate performs the winter close out and spring opening for my sprinkler system. The annual contract is $175 and I have a large system (15 heads).

+ -1 moreWe were never really satisfied with the installation, had them return several times due to flooding of an area, never had a site map of the sprinklers, etc. We departed for overseas service in 2009 and had to deal remotely with InterState. This was not easy. When we returned we decided to switch to another service.

+ -1 moreEverything went downhill from there. Several other lawn sprinkler vendors drew maps of my property and paced off approximate distances so they could quickly draw up a layout plan. I also got 2 estimates from the vendors using their hand drawn maps to send me email estimates from my driveway. Interstate said they would go back to the shop and get me an estimate the next day. Several days went by and I had to call the shop to ask why no estimate had yet been sent. They said they would get right on it but it was another several days before an estimate showed up. This was the only bright spot in the whole experience. The Interstate estimate was lower than the other vendors from whom I had requested estimates. After reading some negative comments about Interstate not designing/installing a system that provides complete coverage I called them again and requested that they come back. I was put on the back burner for this appointment but when they finally did show up they said that unless I could provide them a county lot plan they could not provide me a layout drawing. When I told them that other vendors had hand drawn their plans I was told that they would "order" one from the county. After more questioning as to why they couldn't provide a sketch that approximated the layout they said that they would go back to the shop and get me something the next day. Going on 2 weeks later and I have still not heard from them. No email, no phone call, NO CONTACT AT ALL. Interstate is either so busy that they choose not to even talk to customers that are ready to buy or something is dreadfully wrong with the management of the company. I chose another contractor to do my sprinkler installation and will not consider Interstate for any work on my property.
Description of Work: Because of their business reputation, both on Angie's List and in local consumer "Best Picks" reports, I requested an estimate to install a sprinkler system. Scheduling an appointment was easy and they showed up on time.

+ 0 moreThere were several good surpirses. Because the sprinkler system was associated with my backyard landscaping project, I was expecting only to receive a backyard sprinkler system. In fact, I got the whole 9 yards ... a system that covered every square inch of my grass and landscaping, far beyond what I was expecting. To this day, I'm continually amazed to find where they installed sprinkler heads ... they're in places I'd never expect but in fact are needed to water everything that grows, which includes not just grass but trees and ground cover as well. The other 2 plusses were previously mentioned, which were the addition of a faucet and they laid an electrical wire for future use with a fountain to be purchased and lights to a shed to be constructured. The installation of landscape lighting also achieved everything we desired. After making some adjustment, additional lights were installed in the back yard (at an additional cost), and we were very happy with the results. Several months later we invited Insterstate back to add front house lights, covering the sidewalk and a few landscape lights too. Both jobs were executed with great results. Just a note that if you're thinking about installing a remote control to your lights, so they turn on and off with the remote in addition to the automatic timer, you'd better think again. All of the lights are fed from one controller, so do you want all of them to be subject to the remote or only some? Interstate work with me to try something along these lines, and after giving it their all, we abandoned it. Unless you're interested in installing 2 control panels, one for the automatic timer and the other for the remote, your cost would grow disproportionately and it wouldn't be work it (in my opinion).
Description of Work: Interstate installed underground irrigation and landscape lighting as part of a total backyard landscaping project. Their work could not begin until other work had been completed, which included installation of landscape work by Grow Landscape and installation of plumbing by R A Gray. I received Interstate's estimate, signed the contract, and within 2 weeks, a crew of a dozen workers showed up and completed the entire job in one day. Their work consisted of laying out the sprinklers in 12 zones, digging trenches, running water lines and electrical wires in the trenches, installing zone pumps along with individual sprinklers and installing the control panel. At my request, they threw in two additional wish list items at no additional cost to me. These consisted of laying a separate 100 foot, 120v electrical line, which I purchased and laid along the ground where I expected trenches, and a water faucet next to the irrigation control panel. Their task lead was curteous and a perfectionist. After arriving home that evening from work, he stood by with his crew and tested the system and demonstrated how to program and operate the control panel. Everything went flawlessly and it took only 1 day. The other part of the contract was installation of landscape lights. They showed up, installed the lights and familiarized me with the control (timing) panel. One of our original concerns was about lighting location ... as in "can you please indicate on the landscape drawing where you intend to install the lights?" This turned out to be concern without merit. We initially thought it would be best if they allowed us to tweak their design. But it turned out not to be an issue after all, because they installed the lights, returned a week later around dusk, and made the adjustment to our satisfaction. Some lights were moved and some additional lights were installed, but this approach worked out just fine.

+ -1 moreOverall it went well. Update: after having our system for almost a year, we have not been thoroughly pleased. A large section of our backyard remained waterlogged all year. The reason was due to the estimators plan. Three zones were overlapping so one section was getting watered three times. The spring maintenance person did not catch t his when he came out. I called the company and they were prompt in sending the same guy back. He ended up turning off a few heads but these were ones that I shouldnt have had to pay for then. The problem also was not fixed. It still remained waterlogged. So overall, the company has been okay. But we are not satisfied customers.
Description of Work: Estimator was on time and knowledgeable. Bid was mid-range. But they offered 3 years warranty over the other companies which offered 1 or 2 years. Also, their maintenance plan is $125 per year and others were $175 and $190. The day of the project they were ontime, and completed all the work in a day. We have a 1/3 acre lot in a neighborhood. This price included 7 zones and around 41 heads. There was minimal impact on the lawns and beds. I was unhappy with the location with one of the control panels, and the person who came to do the Fall maintenance arranged to come back in a week and move it and a head that was a few inches on our neighbors lawn. He was really nice about it and I really appreciated his extra effort. The spring maintenance in April took only about 15 minutes. They run the system on a quick test and everything was fine over the winter. I would recommend Interstate for an irrigation system.

+ -1 moreThe estimator was excellent, arrived on time and gave me the estimate on the spot. Was high, but better than some others. Then things started going downhill. When I faxed the contract back, I noted that I needed an installation date ASAP because I had an electric fence and needed to have it marked before work began; they wanted a week to schedule that. A week went by, and I didn't hear anything. I went ahead and scheduled the invisible fence folks because I wasn't sure what was going on with Interstate. Even after a week, I hadn't heard about when the sprinkler would be installed, so I called Interstate to get a date, was told I would get a call back. Nothing. Called again. Nothing. Finally left a testy message and finally got a call during dinner that night. At that point, I was told that they could have done the invisible fence marking and saved me $150. If they had responded on time, I would not have had to pay that. They finally installed it, but then getting someone to come and explain how it worked was another logistical hassle. Tried three times; sometimes they sent someone out but didn't tell me he was coming, so I wasn't there; other times, I was there but the guy didn't show up. Finally get THAT arranged, and the guy was condensending and borderline rude. The sprinkler seems to be working ok, but I really would advise to stay away from this company. The back office and employees just aren't professional or courteous. I can't believe they got the good reviews they have.

Description of Work: Alex and John were very professional, on time and very knowledgible about the functionality of sprinkler systems. Our 12-zone system needed to be updated and repaired, sprinkler heads needed to be replaced/repaired, new heads needed to be installed and lines had to be repaired/newly installed. They spent a total of approximately 6 hours without interruption on this project.

After that he gave us a quote for irrigation and a separate one for lighting. We ended up going with both. Interstate has a good reputation, has been around for a long time, and gave us a 3 year warranty. They also included the first years service on our sprinkler system for free. The yard looks great now, day or night.

The crew was conscious we really cared for our plants, so they took atmost care when they were digging around the plants to install the pipes. After the job was completed they tested every sprinkler head and did not leave the job site until we were happy. They were also curteous and answered the phone every time after they received the entire amount, which in my experience is rarely done by any vendor. They came back and made the necessary adjustments that needed to be made because of the additional patio that was done after the initial irrigation system was installed. Of all the contractors that I had hired to do a huge landscaping job, this company performed better than any other company
