When we worked with the salesman, we expressed our desire to avoid large colour mismatches between adjacent wood strips. He agreed to order extra boxes be used at our expense with the agreement that we'd supervise the wood selection during installation. The crew arrived but during the two days installation would not allow us to provide input in the board selection. Additionally the crew was sloppy while moving furniture causing mares even on specific pieces that we asked them to take extra care while moving. During the process I heard the foreman declare to his associates that "él es loco". There are several boards installed that we would have liked to have had the opportunity to correct before permanently nailing. We report our experience to the salesman who apologized for this crew and offered to have the offending boards replaced with the understanding that they would be cut out and top nailed to reinstall (i.e., an equally ugly alternative). Our neighbors are considering replacing their flooring, we recommended they consider another company.

We had a great experience with Clawes Carpets! All of the people we spoke with at the company, from the gentleman at the store from the installation people were all extremely professional, courteous, and efficient. They had a good selection of flooring for us to choose from, and the price was extremely affordable!

I spoke with Mike at the Belle View showroom. He was very congenial, knowledgeable and had some very good suggestions. He also turned out to be the estimator and came to do the estimate the next day. Carpet was installed approximately 3 weeks later. Installers were punctual, friendly, efficient and did a good job moving and replacing furniture. Best of all, there was only a few square yards of carpeting left over, so didn't waste money there. Clawes has also provided me with good service in the past. They previously installed new carpet in the master bedroom and family room in November 2015 and installed hardwood flooring in my entryway and dining room in 2012.

The floors look very nice except I was told when I purchased the service, the company's best men would be put on the job because of my island in the kitchen. The bottom panel would have to be worked around. Unfortunately, I was not told the panels at the bottom and around the island would be removed and the installers used small nails to put the panel back. Looks horrible, little holes all along the panel. What makes it worse is that I had spent $8000 to $9000 to update my kitchen cabinets and now seeing those little holes all around the island makes me sick. What tops it off is that I had called Clawes and it is has been two days since I left my message. Most likely, I will not receive a return phone call. Please think twice before you purchase a product from this company. I was told their best installers would be assigned to my project, if these were their best installers, I would hate to see their worse.

Clawes has a wide assortment of quality carpets to choose from and they were very helpful to us in deciding between them. Sales staff are friendly, courteous, knowledgeable, and provided several samples we could take home. customer service is outstanding. The installation crew arrived exactly on time and worked diligently throughout installation. The crew was professional, courteous, careful, and accomplished the project with minimal disruption in the house. Furniture was moved with great care. The crew paid attention to little details and showed pride in their work. Our overall experience with Clawes was fantastic and we highly recommend their business.

I could not possibly rave more about this place. My entire experience was fantastic. I visited their showroom in Fairfax and received great personal service as Katherine walked me around and showed me all of my options. She followed up with me personally as we went back and forth discussion my flooring options. Three separate times the company had to come to the house: the estimate, the floor delivery and the installation. Each time the Clawes personnel were on time and very professional. The thing I appreciated most was that they voluntarily told me about an option that saved me a lot of money. Because of the way my current floors and foundation were, they were able to lay the new floors on top of the old ones without ripping them up. This saved me a ton of money for the clearing and disposal of the old floors. They worked so fast (finished in one day) and the quality is amazing. I definitely recommend them and would use them again.

Clawes did a great job. I visited the store and got great info on options/prices; they were very friendly and let me take home a whole stack of samples. Bobby Clawes came by and did the estimate. Crew came in and did the job (not too big, but complex with the stairs and hallways). Crew was very fast, and dealt with my request to match floor level with tile easily and with no questions. Great job, and I would be happy to work with them again.

Everything went perfectly! The carpet is beautiful. Excellent work on the installation. They installed on my tight schedule which I sincerely appreciate. I defiantly would recommend this company to others.
The lack of professionalism from the beginning to the end of our dealing with Clawes Carpet was astounding. First, let me say that the floor itself looks nice. Getting there was painful. The problems began with our estimator. Aside from showing up 25 minutes late for our appointment (in late December) without a hint of an apology, he failed at what would seem to be the two primary jobs of an estimator: evaluating the current condition of our downstairs flooring to see what the job requires, and measuring accurately to order the right amount of material. When the tile guy showed up (Feb. 22) to remove the carpet and begin laying the new flooring, he was dismayed to see that we had old asbestos tiles under the carpet. They had to come out. Our initial contact at Clawes came to the house and was clearly upset that the estimator had failed to do a basic check, especially when those tiles are so common in our neighborhood. Everyone?s schedules had to be changed because the estimator didn?t do that part of his job. Obviously, if we had known the actual duration of the project, we would have been able to plan better. Clawes gave us contact information for an asbestos abatement company (Young Environmental did a good job in a timely manner for a reasonable price), which was able to do the work later that week. We got back on Clawes? schedule and a different tile guy showed up the following week. He laid most of the tile, but unfortunately, they hadn?t ordered enough materials to finish the job, so they would have to extend the project a couple more weeks until the remaining tile arrived. When the tiler came to put in the grout, I noticed it was a different brand and color than we had selected. He tried to convince me it was close enough. I didn?t want to delay the project even more (we needed to get the laundry room back and my daughter was tired of sleeping on an air mattress in her sister?s room). Unfortunately the grout turned out very uneven in color. I understand it?s not going to be perfectly uniform, but some was near the mocha we requested, some was essentially white. I tried to explain the problem to our tile guy (we had a language barrier, so that didn?t help), but he tried to tell me it was simply the lighting in the room (despite the fact that white and mocha grout were right next to each other, under the same lighting). Eventually, he acknowledged the mistake, and said he would return several days later to fix it. But he kept indicating that the problem area was the darker portion, even though I was adamant (and, I thought, clear) that it was the white grout that was problematic. Ultimately, I told him to leave the grout as is because I didn?t trust that he wouldn?t make it worse. When he returned a couple weeks later with the tile to finish the project, I mentioned that we still needed to complete the thresholds transitioning from the new tile to the carpet in the three downstairs bedrooms ? leaving the carpet and padding flapping free didn?t strike me as the look we wanted. He told me ?I just do tile, but I can try.? Although I wasn?t inspired by that, I just wanted the project done. But he determined he wasn?t able to do that work. I had to call Clawes yet again (now well into March) to request they finish the job. A few days later, I got a call from a contractor (James Keys of Keystar Designs) who could do the thresholds. He came to measure and get our stain preferences on a Thursday. A week (and a couple more calls to Clawes) later, the contractor called to say he'd install them on Friday. He called Friday morning to postpone to Saturday ... then Saturday morning (at 7:40 am) to postpone until Monday. He didn't call or show on Monday, and I finally called Clawes again on Friday. He finally did the work the following week, now into April. All told, it took six weeks from the time the tile arrived in my house to complete the project. To be clear, this was one room and two hallways, and the room's not even that big. I got the sense the owners at Clawes care about their business and their customers. But in our case, it seems they did a very poor job of vetting their contractors, and when things (repeatedly) went wrong, they left it to me to keep the project moving forward.

The carpet on the stairs and throughout the upstairs was originally installed just about 5 years ago. Within a year or two, ripples developed in the carpet, even in areas that got little to no foot traffic. Upon re-contacting Clawes, the ripples had become very prominent. The original installers were adamant that a stretching machine was not necessary to use. Clawes re-stretched the carpet using a stretching machine and removed 2 to 2-1/2 inches of carpet around the parameter of each room. Clawes spilt the cost of the re-stretching when they learned that no stretching machine was originally used. Although the person at the store said that the rippling could occur again, the technician said that the problem would never be repeated. Lesson learned: insist that a stretching machine be used when carpeting is installed.

We would highly recommend Clawes Carpets. Bobby Clawes conducted our estimate shortly after we stopped by their Clifton, VA location. He was prompt, professional, and pointed out some considerations we had not thought of. After getting some competing quotes, we settled on Clawes due to prior Angies List responses and their pricing. We are glad we made this decision. The install team showed up as scheduled and went to work right away. We never saw them take a break, and they completed the work in a single day. They were respectful of our house and kept the work area tidy. The new floor looks great! We would definitely use them for any future flooring work.
Description of Work: Removed carpets and installed wood floors in master BR, closets, and hallway.
We had a wonderful experience with Clawes. We had them install hardwood on the upper two floors of our townhouse and manufactured wood on our street level townhouse in Ashburn, VA. The ower Roy came out and measured our rooms. We dealth with him throughout the project. He was very responsive via phone and email. His insallers are true professionals. The first installation day (our total removal and install took three days) they stopped work because they noticed that the manufacturer had miscut the 5" wood slightly. Instead of trying to make the slightly undercut wood work, they called Roy who promptly came out to the house. Roy confirmed the miscuts. We told Roy we were impressed that the installers didn't continue (we probably wouldn't have noticed since the miscuts were only 1/16-inch.) Roy said his installers know they won't get paid if they had installed it. Roy re-ordered all new flooring for us and had the other flooring returned to the manufacturer at no additional cost to us. The installers placed squares of our old carpeting (that we were having removed) as temporary floor protectors under our furniture legs. It was so nice to return home from work and see the expertly laid flooring and the extra level of care the installers took in protecting it. Our floors are beautiful! We chose a light maple. We're so happy that we selected Clawes! We highly recommend them!
Description of Work: Removed Pergo, carpeting and tile and installed with hardwood and manufactured wood.
My wife and I had a great experience with Clawes and everyone was very helpful. We were looking to replace older carpet in our basement so we visited their showroom on Braddock Rd. Everyone in the showroom was very helpful and quick to answer questions and make suggestions. We were encouraged to take samples home so we could see how the colors would look in our lighting. Never felt pressured to buy, but could tell they wanted our business. Their price was good and lower than the big box store we had received a quote from. Installation went well and we couldn't be happier with our new carpet. Will absolutely use them again.
I found Clawes Carpets on Angie's List. The staff at Clawes made buying my carpet an enjoyable experience. They were very helpful in helping me decide on which carpet to buy. They were also very patient and responsive. Every time I called, they were available to answer any questions I had. Clearly, they appreciated my business. The carpet installation went very well. The installers did a great job. They were extremely neat and careful. I love my new carpet. I highly recommend Clawes Carpet.

We originally spoke over the phone and decided to visit Clawe's Carpets showroom in Oakton and met Jeff and Mike. We spoke at length with them about what we were looking for, our budget, and what our expectations were for the carpet (durability, stain resistance, resiliency, etc). They laid out our options and helped educate us on face weight, differences in construction, stain resistance, polyester vs nylon. We left the store with a lot more knowledgeable than walking in. We had Bobby, the Owner, come out and do our formal estimate. Bobby was polite, super friendly, and quick at assessing our needs and was already up to speed on the conversations we had with Jeff and Mike at the Oakton store. He offered a great price on a high quality carpet that we had already looked at so we decided to move forward. We had 2 previous bids from other reputable carpet sales/installation providers so we felt confident in moving forward with Clawe's considering the experience we had thus far with them. Two gentleman came out to perform the installation and to my liking were earlier than scheduled. We needed to move in the next day. I walked the installer through the areas and asked him to be careful of the walls because we had just repainted everything. After watching them perform the install I realize how ridiculous of a request it is not to touch the walls because installing carpet is a very labor intensive job which requires lugging around and rolling our large pieces of carpet to get the right look. To my surprise these guys minimally touched the walls and barely scratched the trim work when performing the install. The carpet looks great and they have minimized the floor squeaks that were prevalent in the old carpet install. I would highly recommend Clawe's Carpets to anybody looking to get their carpets replaced. Phenomenal experience overall.
Description of Work: Ripped out old carpet in 3 rooms and hallway and installed new tack strips, pad, and nylon carpet into 3 rooms, closets, and a hallway.
Our experience began with a very nice visit to the show room on Braddock Road, during which the sales agent and Roy patiently explained the various options for carpets and wood flooring. We originally wanted to replace both the first-floor carpet and the laminate in the kitchen/hall/foyer. Roy came to our house to provide an estimate. Upon inspection of the carpet he recommended that we just have it cleaned rather than replace it (which we did). Carpet cleaning: arrived promptly as scheduled. A very nice job. For the flooring, Daniel and his crew arrived promptly at the appointed day/hour. They were courteous and very professional. The three-man team worked tirelessly for 9 hours to strip three layers of previous flooring and install the new oak flooring. Daniel readily replaced one slat that looked out of place due to its coloring. They carefully moved the heavy furniture and appliances as required, putting everything back in it's original location at the end of the day. Overall, we are very satisfied with our experience. The floor and trim look amazing.
Description of Work: Cleaned the carpets in three rooms on the ground floor and one room in the basement, removed previous flooring and installed oak flooring in the kitchen, foyer and connecting hall.
Clawes carpets leaned my 25 year old carpet in my living room, dining room, step and hall. They arrived on time, were friendly and courteous, and worked efficiently and thoroughly. The results were excellent and my carpets look like new! I have used many other carpet cleaning companies over the years and none of them even came close to the quality of the job done by Clawes. I would highly recommend Clawes for carpet cleaning to anyone.

We were extremely impressed with the focus on quality and customer service during our interactions with the staff of Clawes Carpets. During our original visit to the showroom, staff did an excellent job of recommending reasonably priced carpets based on the description of the needs we had for each room. When Roy came to measure and give us estimates for each of his jobs, his experience and focus on customer service shown through. While he was there he spent extra time, giving us excellent advice on work we were considering doing in other rooms - none of which was going to result in an additional sale on his part. We appreciate him going the extra mile. The installations went fairly smoothly for the most part but we encountered minor problems with one. Roy quickly addressed and resolved the problems making sure that we were satisfied as customers.

Very well! This carpet was purchased less than a year ago at clawes Braddock road. Upon calling clawes, the owner stopped by to assess the damage due to overflow of water. He gave me the most economical way to repair the carpet. Within a day, the installers replaced all padding and seamed my once one piece of carpet together. The quality of work is excellent! They professional, courteous and workmanship was terrific. Definitely recommend clawes!
Description of Work: They removed all the water saturated padding, installed new and seamed carpet in my lower level.
We had hired Clawes last Fall to stretch the wall-to-wall carpet on our third floor and, while in the show room, had decided to purchase a new wood floor. They had done a superb job with the carpet including eliminating numerous squeaky areas so we knew we had chosen the right company to take care of us. They are a family run business and we felt as if we were treated as family. This time around, we had scheduled the work to be done in January and Clawes was helpful, friendly and professional through all of the steps. We received timely advance calls reminding us of when the flooring would be delivered in advance of the installation so the wood could acclimate to our house environment as well as when the installation team would show up three days later. Everyone showed up on time and were exceptionally efficient and focused on getting the job done. On that Monday morning, the team of three professionals was in the driveway 15 minutes prior to the 0800 showtime, ready to get started. The team was highly professional, polite, exceptionally neat and responsive to any requests we made or questions we asked. They worked non-stop till 4:30pm, moving the heavy furniture around as needed, installing new stained cove molding and doing a superb job of installing the wood floor. We had gotten an excellent deal on the flooring - I would strongly recommend that anyone in the market should give Clawes an opportunity to show what they have to sell. However, the more important factor is that their workmanship is second to none. We have now had two different teams (carpet and wood flooring) in the townhouse and they were both outstanding craftsmen and professionals.

Excellent quality of work. Workers were punctual, polite, professional, and very competent. During installation, they kept us regularly informed about the progress and asked questions if in doubt. They took on board all of our specific requirements, and executed a very complicated job to perfection. Very pleasant experience overall. Would recommend strongly
Description of Work: Installed area rug in family room. Very complicated job.
Came on time, did great work, installed great carpet, cleaned up thoroughly. The concern came later. We were rushing to try to finish everything for Thanksgiving guests. However, a plumbing problem tore up about 7 feet of hallway carpet adjacent to the installation area. Plumbing was not done till the carpet was installed, but as soon as it was done I asked if they could reinstall the 7 feet of carpet that had been removed in time for Thanksgiving. i got a "not likely but I'll see". That was 2 months ago and no return call yet! If you can't do the little things - do you deserve the benefit of doing the big things? This was the first room in the process of redoing the whole house. We are about to do more. We have not decided who we will use this time. I can say, they did great work, what they were willing to do,

Overall a great experience. Everyone was a pleasure to deal with from sales, ordering, scheduling, etc. Told them what I was looking for and they did not try to sell me something I did not need. I gave them a B on quality only because the installers did mark up some of my freshly painted walls and baseboards. The carpet looks great, but I do now have to touch up my walls which I am not happy about. I would still use them again. Nice family run business.
