Clawes Carpets Inc

I had contacted Clawes Carpet and Fairfax Floors to obtain estimates for replacing the carpet in my one-bedroom condo that is set to be rented. The cost estimates were nearly identical. However, Roy, one of the owners, indicated that unlike other flooring companies Clawes Carpet purchases the installation tools and materials for their installers, suggesting that installation is superior to other companies. In addition, although the price per square foot for the carpet quoted by each of the companies was the same, the durability rating on the carpet that Clawes quoted was slightly higher. I selected Clawes Carpet for these reasons. Clawes could schedule installation no earlier than 2 weeks out once I had committed to the installation. The installation team showed up on the earlier side of the window scheduled for installation. Given that only the bathroom and kitchen were the only areas were carpet was not being installed, I elected not to be present for installation. Upon returning to the condo in the evening, I found two (and later another) places where the carpet was bubbled and not laying flat on the floor against the baseboard. I emailed Clawes with pictures describing the problem on the Thursday night that the carpet was installed asking that someone return to fix the problem. I received a call from the installer the following day during the work day. I returned the call on Saturday morning. I called Roy's cell phone just before 11am on Monday about this problem. He indicated that someone would call me within a few hours. I told Roy that having the carpet repair done is time sensitive as a tenant was scheduled to be moving in. I never heard back from anyone on Monday about returning to my condo to fix the carpet. I received a call from an installer on Tuesday morning indicating that he could come to the condo in the evening around 5pm or 6pm. He called around 4pm indicating that he was on his way to Arlington. I rushed home from work to meet him at the condo. He took approximately an hour and corrected the issue. He explained that when the old carpet was ripped up (by Clawes), some of the tacks that had been glued to the floor had pulled up. He replaced the tacks that were not flat against the floor so that the carpet could lay flat. Given that I made my decision based upon suggestions of superior installation, I am terribly disappointed. I did not expect someone to come out immediately, but given that I have a tenant moving in, having someone at Clawes commit to a time to fix the installation job would have given me a little peace of mind. I will not use Clawes Carpet again.

Based on Angie's List and a very positive recommendation from a neighbor, contacted Clawes to install hardwood flooring. The only weird thing about the process is that you have to go into the shop to make the arrangements for the estimator to come out. At the shop they let me take home some sample boards for comparison. The estimator was Roy Clawes, one of the owners. He arrived a bit late, but did call and let us know he was detained. He recommended a type of flooring that was immediately available and that closely matched the existing hardwood on another level. The estimate was just about what I thought it would be and we arranged the date. which he managed to make within the short-term window we needed. They dropped off the boxes of flooring a couple days before the install. On the day of the install, the two men arrived early and set right to work. The room was empty so there was nothing to move. They finished in less than four hours and it looks great. Not a creak anywhere. After we get the rest of that level painted and a bathroom remodeled, we'll use Clawes to convert the whole floor to the same hardwood.

I love my new floors. I purchased my floors from the Clifton store. I ordered several samples of carpet before deciding on the one I wanted. I also had laminate floors installed by another company about 5 years ago on my middle level so I brought a sample of that floor to try to match the hardwood to it. They were able to find a hardwood that matched almost perfectly with my laminate floor. I thought the price for all the flooring was very reasonable. The hardwood floors were installed first because the carpet was on back order. They showed up on time and I was surprised how many people were at the door when they showed up. They were very professional and once I showed them what was to be done they went right to work. They moved my furniture without any issues. The crew was here from 8:30 until 4:00, which I thought was pretty good considering how much work was done. The attention to detail was nice. The carpet was installed today and they were here from about 9:15 until about 1:30. Again, they went right to work and were very professional. The carpet really turned out nice and really changes the room. The carpet has a pattern in it so they did a great job matching up the pattern. I would highly recommend this company.

Amazing. I would recommend Roy Clawes and his crew 100 times over. They have done a terrific job from the very beginning. Roy helped us select a great product and provided us with a wealth of information. The installation went very smoothly. The crew was timely, honest and reliable. The stairs match our flooring perfectly. Roy is a perfectionist and the job was not finished until every little detail was complete and perfect! I am thrilled with the end result!!!

would not install a floor that was not purchased from their business although they list themselves as floor installers!

They showed up on time, and the entire job only took 90 minutes. They calculated the seams so as to save 5 square yards of materials.

They over estimated the yardage. They assumed I could only afford certain kinds of carpet.

They gave me a reasonable estimate (some $800 less than another vendor, Carpet One, on the exact same carpeting--Masland "Key West") & did the install within 4 weeks. They did the install, took away the old carpet, and cleaned up after themselves. My only complaint--that the carpet (the padding, really) had a musty smell that lingered for a month or more. They did come back and check it but assured me that it was just "new carpet smell." I was skeptical, and I wasn't happy that my carpets still smelled musty a month later, but the smell did eventually dissipate, and I'm very happy with the carpets.

three men did the job. they moved lots of furniture and worked together as a team knowing what each one needed to do. clean up was good. it took 10 hours. great job.

These guys were great. The only hitch was that they showed up and realized that they didn' have enough tack strips, so they had to run to Home Depot and pick up some more. The delay was very minimal, and we had already set the afternoon aside for the project. It probably took the guys 20 minutes once they came back with the strips. We are very happy with their work, and they charged us the minimum for the project. I was actually expecting they would charge a lot more, or that we would have a lot of trouble finding someone to do a job this small, but they came right out and cheerfully cut 16 feet and another 8 feet and left us to the rest of our afternoon. If we need a carpet repair service again, we will be delighted to call Clawes (no matter how big or small).

I am pleased with my new carpet. The guys were skilled and did a great job.... no complaints there at all! My only concern was I started this home improvement project in early May since I was moving into the townhouse in late June and knew I had a small window before the movers arrived with my furniture. It started off well enough with someone visiting the home to estimate, but then loss of contact and follow-up calls ...delayed my vision of new carpet before movers. Once I arrived in VA area, I worked with someone new, but we had to start the process of estimating, etc. over again. However, once we got the 2nd estimate and process going, the job was completed as quickly as possible and to my complete satisfaction. I intend to call them again to finish my carpet installation project in the future.

I'm so disappointed and surprised by Clawes' treatment. I arranged for someone to come by and provide an estimate. I called the day before to confirm the appointment was told that a representative would arrive at our scheduled time. On the day of the appointment, no one showed up. I called to inquire and was told that I had called two days ago to cancel. I assured him that I had not cancelled and that I had called the previous day to confirm. I was repeatedly told that I had cancelled. Eventually I was told that they did not want my business. I was looking forward to using Clawes as I have several projects to complete. I'm now searching for another vendor and will let friends/associates know about Clawes' baffling custom service.

Couldn't have gone better. Tile subcontractor was meticulous in his work; as were the Clawes staff who installed the wood floors and carpet. Work was done and completed as scheduled. Everyone from the job "coster" to the installers were very friendly and professional. Only thing we would have done differently would be to deal directly with a company that specializes in tile. Clawes did not have samples on hand. We looked at several places before finding Shaw tile samples, then Clawes ordered samples of the "finalists" we found online. (We were limited to SHAWS brand flooring because of the Costco deal we were working from.) As said above, the tile work was subcontracted by Clawes.

I read the reviews of Clawes Carpets and went to their Braddock Road location. I was immediately greeted by the owner of the store. When I told him I was looking for "really cheap" carpet to temporarily carpet my basement. To my delight, he didn't try to talk me into something more expensive. He immediately showed me the cheapest carpet they had. I was also looking to replace carpet in a bedroom and wanted something nicer. He showed me several different carpets explaining advantages and disadvantages of each. I settled on a mid-range carpet. They gave me several color samples to take with me and was able to set up the estimate the following day. The estimator was right on time and very professional. The very next day, Clawes called back with the write up. I could have scheduled the installation about three weeks out but opted to do it later due to my schedule. The installation team showed up right on time and worked quickly and efficiently. They did a beautiful job! I received friendly, amazing customer service in all my dealings with them and am very satisfied with the product and installation. The next time I need carpet for my house, I will definitely use Clawes. I highly recommend them.

The company brought in an experienced crew that did a large job in two days. The price and the workmanship were outstanding.

Installers arrived promptly 1st thing in the morning. Installation was done quickly & finished ahead of schedule. Installers were were very professional & did a great job!

They arrived on time, ripped up all the old carpet and installed the new carpet. My husband already had the furniture and everything cleared out of the room so it was easier for them to get in and out quickly. The new carpet looks great! It's super tight and plush. They were very nice to work with.

I got them from Angie's List. We contacted a couple of companies to put in a replacement vinyl kitchen floor. The job was perfect. All the people were professional and they did exactly what they said. They gave us all the information we wanted. As I said everything went exactly as what I was expecting from a really good company. They did really well. They were at the lower end of the estimate so it was a good price. They were right on time.

Overall, I'm very pleased with my experience. The salesman within the store was very helpful in showing me samples of what i was looking for, choosing the brand, quality, and feel of my carpet and padding. I elected to upgrade to the 9 inch padding rather than the standard pad. The crew that came to install the carpet did a phenomenal job. They were friendly, hard working, and cleaned up any mess. The foreman was the BEST! He answered questions, worked just as hard as his fellows, and agreed to perform an extra task that took him an additinal 30 minutes. He was happy and cheerful to help make my new home look perfect. I would highly recommend! My one minor (VERY minor) complaint is: (I had not yet moved in to my new home yet) When I came back the next day I found the wall on the first floor COVERED with common flies (20-30). Now we did have the door open for a time to let the workers in and out, but there's no way that many insects came in that way. My only thought is whereever the warehouse is that the carpet was stored had them hidden somewhere. I took a broom and swooshed most of them out. I hope those that read this review do not focus on this issue as everything else was great and my new carpet looks BEAUTIFUL! I felt I needed to provide full disclosure in my review. In conclusion, I would definitely use Clawes Carpeting again.

They were very friendly in the office. I was very satisfied with them, they did a great job.

I worked with Roy Clawes from the beginning. Roy is a nice, personable guy and I liked working with him. I had evaluated Clawes Carpets against four other estimates. - Roy provided an estimate for both wood and carpet. I ultimately awarded the wood flooring to another contractor due to cost but Clawes had the best price and carpet. - One positive about working with Roy was that he was ALWAYS available by cell and, if he missed you, would call back within an hour. He has a great customer service focus. - Scope of work was carpet the basement and bedrooms adding carpet on the stairs. - Install guys were prompt and professional. They did make one mistake with the stairway carpet installation and Roy had them come back and do a rip and replace. - Once the installation was complete, I asked Roy to create some runners for the hard wood floors which, although took a little more time than expected, but look good. - One negative was a misunderstanding around the overall pricing which was presented at signing as higher. He allowed me to put down less than the asking %. Very happy with the outcome and would recommend.

* This review is for the Vienna branch of Clawes Carpets. * Tim (showroom salesman) was really helpful in consulting with us about what type of carpet would be best for our setup and aesthetic preferences. He also gave us a bunch of very good sized samples to take home with us (even helped us carry them out to the car). We had a very tight turnaround time as I was trying to get the carpet installed before a herd of houseguests arrived. Tim worked with us to find a mutually convenient time for the estimator to come out that week. The estimator arrived on time and was extremely thorough - he spent almost an hour at the house drawing all the measurements to scale. Tim called later that evening with the price of the job, answered all of my questions, and most importantly, was able to schedule the installation within two weeks (before our visitors were scheduled to arrive). I didn't bother with additional estimates since Clawes came so highly recommended on Angie's List so I'm not sure how competitive the pricing was but it seemed reasonable. (We went with Shaw Merino Caress Collection.) Also, they provided a discount for my Angie's List reference, and they honored an additional discount code I found online for Shaw. On the day of the scheduled installation, the three-man crew arrived within the time window Tim had promised. Within about 6 hours they were able to remove the old carpet and replace it with new carpet on two full floors and two staircases of our townhouse. They were efficient, courteous and surprisingly quiet (I was able to work from home the entire day). They cleaned everything up very thoroughly when they were finished, leaving no trace even the front sidewalk and parking lot. I did not receive a follow-up call after the job was completed, but I suppose that's a sign of their confidence in their work. Overall, I was very pleased with the experience and would happily use them again on future projects.

Excellent experience. Roy Clawes came to our home, measured the rooms and we had an estimate in writing that same week. We scheduled the installation and all was complete the expected day. The installation was excellent and we've had no issues with the carpet. We would definitely use Clawes Carpet in the future and highly recommend them.
