The Clawes team was fantastic! They were very careful to seal off the room so that the mess made from the ceramic tile removal did not spread to other areas of the house. The old floor was removed and the new one went down - they did a great job and it looks fabulous :=) All appliances and island were carefully removed then re-installed - all work performed in one day - LOVE the new floor and the Clawes team :=)

Everything about our experience with Clawes Carpets was excellent. They had the best product selection, best price and best service! We were looking for a wide-plank, matte, naturally oiled hardwood floors that are only now becoming popular in the US and very few stores carry them. In DC area we found exactly 2 providers, Clawes being one of them. We had 4 companies (all top rated on Angie?s List) come out to take measurements and provide pricing and Clawes beat the next lowest by over 2K and some of them quoted us more than 10K more than Clawes did. The installation itself was impeccable even considering our very non-traditional condo layout ? there is not a single straight corner in the unit as the building is shaped as a semi-circle. Clawes installers were able to get the angle of wood just right to accommodate for the strange shapes of each room yet keep it coherent throughout. I have to say special ?thanks? to Katherine for answering my millions of questions about the naturally oiled floor type; and to Roy for going above and beyond to accommodate our schedule for installation and to adjust it at such short notice. We already used Clawes services again to purchase tile for the small entry area and we will use them again next year when we change the kitchen floors. PS: I saw some negative reviews about carpet installation. It is a different crew than the one used for hardwood installation. All the guys I had to deal with were very nice, professional, prompt and attentive to details.

We had an excellent experience from start to finish with Clawes Carpet. The staff in the showroom were helpful and knowledgeable when we first began looking at carpet. Roy came to our home for measurements and was very patient with us when we had questions on the numbers, including coming back out to our house to remeasure everything to be sure the numbers were as expected. Once we decided on materials, he expedited the order for us because we have a baby on the way and wanted to get the work done as quickly as possible. The two installers were friendly and very efficient and the final product looks really great. We'd highly recommend working with Clawes!

The carpet installers were about 20 minutes late from the stated time of arrival (were told between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. and they arrived at approximately 9:50 a.m.) This was not a problem however. Work went smoothly - three men who were there for approximately 8-1/2 hours. Very courteous and friendly. Complaints: There was some minimal damage done that we did not notice before their departure: They had removed one of the air vent covers from the floor of one of the bedrooms in order to lay the carpet around the vent. After they departed, we noticed the vent was making some very loud noise so we removed it and found that it had been broken/bent. So not only had they broken it, but they had put it back without saying anything about it. One of the bedside dressers in the master bedroom had several scratch marks on the top surface that were not there before. I believe they probably put the other bedside dresser on top of the other when they move the furniture to lay the carpet and did not use furniture padding between the furniture pieces. I did not see what they did but I would highly recommend that they bring furniture padding when they do installations since they most likely will have to pile furniture out of the way. The table is not new nor in the best of shape but a better practice would be to bring padding. They did not clean off the driveway very well before they departed. We had to go back out and hose down the entire driveway due to small carpet pieces that were spread around the driveway and walkway. At this time we are very happy with the product itself and at this point would consider using Clawes again but I do believe these kind of complaints could very easily be avoided.

We experienced the same caring, professional service from Clawes in this flooring experience as we did when they put in carpeting a few weeks ago. We had floors that had a horrible pattern in it --I'd drop something on the floor and never find it again :-) While the floor was in good shape, I was more than ready for a change. Mr. Clawes came out with some vinyl samples, after I went on their site and narrowed my choices down to a few. Such a personable individual. Really loves what he does for his customers and the success of his family business is a monument to this passion. The flooring fellows came out and put down a new sub-floor and the vinyl. I understand that manipulating sheet vinyl is difficult process and that it takes skilled professionals to do it. These folks were certainly that. The results are beautiful, new floors in my bathrooms and kitchen. The new sub-floors and vinyl made the floors sturdier and reduced/eliminated the floor squeeks that plagued us. Recommend Clawes! Can't praise them enough!

We had some issues with carpeting. We had a lot of problem and we weren't home and had to have somebody in immediately and we had Clawes. They were great. We had a leaky pipe and my daughter had dealt with them. She called them and they met her the next day after work. They were great because I thought I would have to come home from vacation. They were professional and good. I had dealt with them before and she had too, she bought a carpet from them. I think I bought a carpet from them. They have always been very responsive and very easy to work with.

I needed the carpet in my whole house cleaned. I contacted Clawes Carpets based on the recommendation of my daughter. The cleaning was scheduled four weeks in advance to accommodate my wife and my busy schedule. The two-man crew arrived at 1:00 PM and proceeded to pre-treat the more pronounced spots and tackle the very large job. The truck mounted steam machine made it look easy although it was a lot of work. The results were quite remarkable and my wife and I were very pleased. They took the time needed to do an excellent job and I recommend Clawes Carpet Cleaning without reservation.
This was the last provider that I had scheduled, so I already had some idea of what "good" answers were to my questions. The person they sent started immediately measuring the rooms. I pulled up the carpet from the corner of one room to show him the parquet flooring underneath. I started asking questions. He was able to answer not ONE question. He kept saying, "I don't know, I'm just measuring the rooms." I asked about the quality of the parquet (I had already been told it was very good parquet and they would have no problem sanding it.) He said he didn't know about parquet; that there was thin and thick parquet, and they wouldn't know until they started working whether it could be sanded. He thought we should just rip out the parquet and install regular wood floors. (No other provider had even suggested this, and it is not what I wanted.) I asked if they could get replacement parquet tiles if any needed to be replaced. He didn't know, but he said nobody made parquet anymore, and they probably couldn't get any. (Other providers said that there are still companies that manufacture parquet tiles just for the purpose of replacing damaged ones in older homes.) He didn't know how long it would be before they could schedule us. ("I don't do the scheduling; I just measure rooms.). None of my questions could he answer. A couple days after he left, someone from Clawes called to ask a few questions. I explained how unhappy I was with the knowledge of the person they sent out. I was told that this man was very good a carpeting--which I didn't need. He was a replacement at the last minute for the owner, Roy Clawes, who couldn't come that morning. I never got any estimate from this company as to what it would cost for them to do the work.
Description of Work: The provider came to our house to give us an estimate on removing wall-to-wall carpeting in our living/dining room and den, refinishing the parquet flooring under the carpet, and installing new wood flooring in the kitchen.

One of the owners, Mr. Bobby Clawes, came out and did the measurement and price quote himself. He was courteous, professional, and very helpful. His great personality and friendliness immediately made me cancel all other measurements with other contractors. I was quoted some very good pricing and therefore sure this was the right decision. Later, I went into their Braddock location and it seemed almost like a bait and switch. The great pricing I got was for a very low grade carpet when I was led to believe it was comparable to other carpets from other contractors. In the end we ended up choosing a carpet/padding that was $300 more expensive than their cheapest estimate carpet. I was still okay with this at that point because now it was just the same price as other contractors. However, for this price I would have rather gotten the Martha Stewart Beekman II carpet from Home Depot for the same amount because is a denser more comfortable and expensive carpet. Moving on to the installation is where I have my quips. Two installers showed up on time. I introduced myself and the gentleman responded by saying, "I am Clawes." To this day I still have no idea who these people were that were in my house. I had just gotten the room painted the prior week and asked them to be careful. He informed me that they are always very careful but the baseboards will have to be hit while installing the carpet. I thought that that was understandable but after watching them work it was definitely avoidable. They were hitting the baseboards directly and so hard that the semigloss anti-stain protective paint was literally flying off in chips and the bottoms of the baseboards are now bare wood. This is excessive force and could have been avoided with a gentler touch and even perhaps sliding the tool along the bottom of the baseboard in certain circumstances when possible. But they were only interested in getting out of there quickly. This is also reflected in the way they removed and cleaned up the old carpet and padding. I saw the gentleman sweeping a little bit so I figured he would remove all of the old carpet and padding but I was wrong. I looked in the room after he swept and saw old padding everywhere. After the carpet was installed and I walked around I immediately felt pieces of the old padding and there are bumps all over the room. The seam between the new padding down the center line of the room can also be felt along the length of the room. The fact that they just left the pieces of old junk padding is extremely bothersome to me and now it is something I have to live with after paying good money to get this "professionally" installed. Lastly, in the store I was informed that with the remnant piece, they would put edging on it and give it to be as a rug. This was never done. The remnant piece was over 1 square yard, due to the attached closet, so it is not a small amount. For the price I paid per square yard it is almost $40. Very disappointing that this was not delivered as promised as we were looking to use it as a mat. FYI, I still tipped the two gentlemen even for their substandard work as I still believe in generosity. In response to the vendor's response: It is ABSOLUTELY NOT the wiring. I know exactly where the wiring is and it runs for a short length along the perimeter of the room. "Marco" also knows this. My review states that the bumps are all over the room which they are, with sporadic placement. This is not wiring. I saw it with my own eyes that they left pieces of old padding everywhere after they swept the room. Also, the seem is along the length of the room down the center (exactly where I saw them place the 2 pads together). I also mentioned this in my original review. As for the pricing I stated that I did not have a problem with the pricing. I understand I chose one of the more expensive lines of carpet. UPDATE: The owner personally called and offered everything to remedy the situation including personally coming out to inspect and repair the work performed. I was to schedule an appointment for this but later decided to decline the offer as our room is now already set up with furniture etc. The rugs promised from the remnant pieces are ready to be picked up and so everything will now be delivered as promised. Customer service is excellent.

Hi [member name removed], We tried calling you after reading this but your mailbox was full and we were unable to leave a message. I am sorry you felt as though you did not have a good experience at Clawes Carpets and wish you would have called us sooner. When Bobby came out he priced 2 different grades of carpet. One was our builder grade/ contractor and another that was a step up. What you ended up having installed was something you had chosen in the store which was Dixie Home Style Spell Binding in Color Rockport. This is one of the highest wearing carpets that we carry. After speaking with our installer Marco he said he had spoken to you once he arrived at your home about the wires you wanted to have the carpet installed over. He said he did not recommend it but that you had insisted we install over them. So that is what we did. We did not and DO NOT install over old carpet cushion. The lumps you feel are the wires. We are more than happy to come out and do an inspection. If you feel the need for us to rip up the new carpet and show you all the padding is new we are more than happy to do that as well. As far as the 2ft x 3ft piece that was left over we are more than happy to deliver that to you bound at your convenience. Clawes Carpets has been in business for over 37 years and we pride ourselves on the repeat and referral work we do. We resolve ANY and ALL issues that have been brought to our attention but unfortunately we were not made aware of this till now on an Angie’s review. You can reach us at 703-978-2603.

Clawes helped us pick out appropriate carpet for our family room and basement stairs. They provided quality carpet and were willing to explain to us the pros and cons of each type of carpet. The installers arrived on time and were very professional. Once the carpet was installed they vacuumed and cleaned up. We were very happy with the purchase.

We went to the showroom and picked out the carpet. The salesman was helpful and not pushy. They were nice to our kids who were with us at the time. The advised us about what kind of carpet to choose but were not "steering" us to any one kind of carpet. We scheduled the carpet to be installed. The two men came to install it and they were punctual and professional. A few minor scraps to the walls from moving furniture but nothing major. Overall the cost was good and the service was great.
Description of Work: Installed carpet in three rooms of our home
I had a major remodeling project done to replace aged flooring. I removed and replaced the carpet/hardwood flooring on the main level with new hardwood and ceramic tile and replaced the carpet in two bedrooms and hallway on the upper level with new hardwood and carpet. I found Clawes to be an excellent company to work with and was most pleased with their work. The were very helpful, responsive, and provided sound advice in accomplishing our flooring project. In addition, they sell quality flooring products. They used their own employees for installing the hardwood and carpet and a subcontractor for installing the tile flooring and all work was excellent. I also used Clawes to replace carpet in the rec room of a rental property. One of the owners, Bobby Clawes, kept involved in both projects and was readily accessible when I had questions or needed advice. He also inspected the work several times to ensure that it was done properly and met my requirements. I would certainly use Clawes again.

I visited the store a few times as I am very deliberate with my selection process. The staff in the store was very helpful and very accommodating with allowing me to take how samples and the palette boards. Once I made the selection, I signed the contract and the total was $3200. I did not have a good experience with the install. The installers were prompt. There were three total. Just 3 days before the install, I had all the walls and trim painted. The first mishap was one of the workers put a register from the floor on my newly painted window sill. It wouldn't have been a problem except that he didn't gently place it. The second was the way the other installer treated my new hardwood floors installed last year. When he wasn't using his tools he's TOSS then on the hardwood. I had to speak to him about this and put a flattened hardwood box down beside him to lay his tools. On both occasions, the lead installer talked to his helpers but the irritation had already occurred. Next, the installers laid my carpet out on the street to cut it. AFTER I said something, they got a pad and put underneath the new carpet. The final straw was when they got my old carpet and laid on top of my new carpet to use as template. I ran outside and snapped pictures and told them to get the old carpet off of the new. I had cats for 15 years and these old carpets were disgusting. The installer said they needed to do this to get the cut right and said that they could either use my old carpet as template or mark up my walls trying to cut it to fit while in the house. I was highly displeased and called Clawes. Tim took down my complaint and said he'd call me back after talking to the installer but did not. The team finished the install and left. Tim never called me back. The next day, I was called by Clawes to pay the invoice and complained about what happened. Tim called back and said that it was normal to lay carpet in the street to cut if it was a smaller place like a townhouse. I'm sorry - I can't believe that it's typical for carpet installers to lay down carpet on fine sand and gravel that covers the street. I was really disappointed by Clawes lack of concern for the poor professionalism of the install. I felt like their apologies were lip service. About a week later, Clawes finally took $400 off the install. I was so disappointed with the whole process. I have to still get new flooring for my 3rd guest bedroom and basement and I will absolutely not use Clawes again.

We had a 28" carpet runner (a natural carpet) serged and installed on our staircase of 13 stairs. We found the staff helpful and easy to work with, but they do seem to be very busy. We had to call for an update after placing the order to check on the status as we hadn't heard anything for a several weeks and we're expecting the carpet to arrive sooner than that. We also had to call a few times to check on a follow-up project (described below), as it took longer than expected. They were always friendly and helpful when we called, but an update from them periodically would have been appreciated. The gentleman who did the installation (I believe his name was James) was excellent. He was very detailed and took the time necessary to ensure everything lined up properly and allowed for enough time drying time between seams. He also made a rug for us out of some of a carpet remnant for the entrance way to the staircase at no additional expense to us. We were left with another fairly large remnant once the project was finished, so we called about having that remnant serged to have a second rug, and they offered a reasonable charge to do that. When we dropped the remnant off, however, they told us they would do it for no additional charge, which was very nice. They were running quite a backlog, and maybe that was why. It took another 2+ months for the rug to be ready, but we knew there would be some delay and weren't being charged, so that was alright. All in all, we are very happy with the results.
Description of Work: Assisted us in their showroom and also came out to our home to measure and provide an estimate for a carpet runner to be installed on our staircase. We hired them for the project and they did a great job on the installation of the runner.

I have no complaints on the work. It was expensive but they did a great job. My only concern was that they took down the plastic curtain after the first coat of polyurethane was put down and before that coat was dry. With the curtain down, the tenant's dog ran up the stairs to the bedrooms, leaving a trail of prints. Mr. Clawes said the installer would remove the dog's prints. The dog prints are still there. Apparently the installer told Mr. Clawes that he had removed the dog prints and that the dog must have run up there a second time. That did not happen. The dog prints are covered with new, smooth layers of polyurethane, so apparently they were not buffed out sufficiently before the new layers went on. Nonetheless, I plan to ask Clawes to refinish the first-level floor before I sell the house and I am hoping the prints can be taken care of then. The tenants claimed that the installer did not show up until late in the mornings, forcing them to stay home from work longer than they had expected, so I gave Clawes a "B" for punctuality. When the dog prints are removed, I will change the grade on "responsiveness" to "A."

We were putting our house up for sale, and needed to put carpeting in the basement, on both stairways, and in the upstairs hallway. We had gotten a quote from Home Depot that came in around $2,000 for the installation of very basic, builder-quality carpeting. Since we had used Clawes in the past for other carpeting and for kitchen vinyl flooring, and had been very satisfied, we also got an estimate from them. Clawes initial estimate for the same basic carpeting was $1,600. We decided to upgrade to a thicker pile, which raised the price to $2,000. The installers came out when scheduled, installed the carpeting in about 4 hours, and cleaned up after themselves. We were very pleased with the results, and would recommend their services to other customers.
