For six years we have had a service contract with Band B - $310 a year for an HVAC system (with humidifier) for a 2500 sq ft home. With an older system, this is an especially good idea. They call twice a year (mail and phone call), in the spring and fall to schedule an inspection to ready our HVAC for summer AC and winter heating. They call the day before to be sure we haven't forgotten. They're on time, in and out in about an hour. Once, they called to say they would be late. No mess. No Fuss. Usually there are no additional charges. When there is a charge, it's generally for parts, for something minor. If they fix something during the inspection visit, the labor is free, part of my service contract. They have kept our system humming - the power of preventive maintenance. Their guys are personable, clean, professional, and they speak English. Granted I have already paid $310, but there is something very satisfying when the technician hands you a bill with all the $ numbers zero'd out. Anyway, Band B's service contract is A+, real peace of mind.
Description of Work: Inspection and winter preparation of furnace and humidifier. We do this every year. They do such a fine job, it's completely uneventful. This visit, they replaced the humidifier distributor, evaporator panel, and the spray orifice. $150 in parts. Because of the service contract, the labor is covered. And, of course, they check the furnace to be sure that it is clean and ready to do its thing in a few weeks.

Installation took 2 full days, 4 to 5 vans, and lots of technicians came and went. Men were very polite. Cloths were put down on stairs so they would not get dirt on carpeted stairs. I did not mind rice because I got a Carrier system.
Description of Work: Company removed old gas furnace and air conditioning unit and installed a new Carrier gas furnace and air conditioning unit. Installed duct work, slab, outdoor unit, disconnect box, flue pipe & everything.

We were very impressed with the level of service and professionalism of the tech that came out. He checked over the entire AC unit to ensure there weren't any other issues. We have since signed up for annual routine maintenance with the Band B.
Description of Work: AC stopped working during a holiday weekend. Called B&B and a tech came out immediately. He diagnosed the issue almost immediately and had the part on hand to fix the unit.

We thought it was over priced. My husband went and bought one for $70.00. Another guy came out to install it and told us that the circuit was the wrong one and told my husband that we needed to buy another one that was over $300.00. My husband bought the correct one $25.00 and I called the manager and he just said "how do you think we should make money?!"
Description of Work: A circuit breaker blew, the first guy who came out and told us that one needed to be replaced. The called the next day and told us the price to replace it which it was over $400.00.

We've had them for years. They're very good and they come when they're told and when they're supposed to. They even remind me when I need a checkup. They did the spring cleaning and maintenance.

For this we were charged $200.00 and the tech left the blower motor inoperable and the hole in the side of indoor coil enclosure. While both units worked prior to the service call, neither is available following the service call. No follow-up provided by the organization after receiving the Service Ticket with quotes and $200.00 service call.
Description of Work: Responded to a special offer for a pre-season cooling inspection for 89.95. Tech found "unit low on refrigerant and blower makling noise. Leak checked system. Indoor coil leaking. Also blower broke. Need to get a new motor. Tech spent time looking for coil serial number to determine if under warranty (cut hole in coil casing to determine if number was on reverse side of unit). Tech also removed blower motor. Remaining time was spent getting estimates for blower motor, capacitor, and warranty coil replacement (approximately $2375 and if coil was out of warranty - $2875 (it was not).

Per original call slip, code used for call was "A11", which means, "A/C not working properly", it was also noted they had an Inspection Discount Coupon. Per the Service Ticket, the technician spent 2hr's at the customer, but only charged for one. This was done taking into account the Inspection Coupon. Tech was under the impression that we would be doing service and didn't put back together, as much as possible. Cust. needed to call office w/serial# to see if under warranty. They did, but informed us they were going to check on price from other co's, including company originally installing coil. General Manager called several times afterward to follow-up, and after this report, but call's weren't returned.

Our furnace decided to quit right before Christmas, right before a snowstorm. After we called Band B, they came out, told us we needed a new furnace, and they worked 8 hours straight, until 9:00 on a Friday night, installing the furnace so that we had heat before the snowstorm the next day. They had to go to several different locations to get all of the parts, and they were sending guys all over the area to bring the parts. They were very professional. We were very grateful. I can't say enough good things about them.

Repair took two hours. Went well. Furnace is so quiet - can't hear it run. Heat is more evenly distributed and house stays warmer.

The first person that answered the phone was not great, but everyone after that is wonderful. Recently, there was something wrong with my water heater. I knew exactly what I wanted them to check because I had done some research. I think that saved some time and money.

Band B was able to send a repairman quickly after I called. He arrived as scheduled (they called to give me a 30 minute heads up when he was on his way). The repairman got to work quickly, diagnosed the problem, told me the amount it would cost and once I approved the repair, he finished the job quickly. The work was done quickly and professionally. He offered a service contract but did not try to push it using a hard sell technique. Band B was very easy to work with; and, if necessary I would use them again.

I have a servicing contract with them and they come out twice a year. They do a thorough check and replace any faulty parts if required. I get a discount on the parts and the labour is free as I have the service contract with them. They explain things well. When they replace a part, they show me the faulty part and tell me why are replacing it. They are clean and cleanup once the job is done.

I feel like this type of repair work is bordering on exploitation. B and B service contracts don't increase in price each year, but I feel that the company makes up for that by charging outrageous prices for parts. I don't mind paying for parts, and I want technicians who can spot trouble before it begins. But this humidifier issue has exposed practices at B and B that don't make sense to me. My humidifier distributor tray was fine two months ago, and it's been fine for the past seven years. The technician could not explain to me why it suddenly went bad two months later, and the only justification for the cost was "we have to buy through a distributor." I was also angry that Chris would not authorize the purchase of the distributor tray alone. He told me that B and B wants to do the "best job possible" so that the client receives optimal protection from possible leaks, but he could not warranty the tray and offered only a 30-day warranty on the tube. So I'm not really protected in any way from future leaks and would have to pay these exorbitant prices if either of these pieces failed, even if they failed in two months. This is just euphemistic talk and offers nothing to the consumer. I would recommend that clients who contract with B and B for HVAC service be aware that though the idea of no annual increase in fee and no cost for labor is very attractive, there is something strange going on about the cost of the parts. Don't let the 10% discount fool you: some of these parts are extraordinarily expensive.
Description of Work: I have had a service contract with B & B for seven years, and though I don't pay for labor, I do pay for parts. I've noticed over the past two years that every time the technicians come out to service my HVAC, I "need" new parts for something. So far, I purchased everything they recommended because I placed trust in their professional opinion. But when my fall service was performed on November 17th this year, I was shocked to find that the price for the humidifier filter had doubled. I paid it because I had no alternative, but my tech assured me that the humidifier was working fine otherwise. Now, two months later, the humidifier began leaking, and the tech told me that the sand (gritty material) on the distributor tray had eroded, but he couldn't explain how it could have eroded so severely in two months time. "Wear and tear" is what Chris, the manager, explained, but he could not explain why it would deteriorate so quickly. The biggest problem, however, was the cost to repair it: $75 for a small, plastic distributor tray and $41 for the thin tube that connects to the humidifier, a tube that wasn't even broken. This price reflects the 10% discount B& B gives its customers. Additionally, B & B would not repair the tray alone; I have to purchase the tube in order to have the repair performed. I spoke to the manager, Chris, and he told me that B & B has to purchase its parts from a distributor, which I can appreciate. I know there is a mark-up, and it's realistic for consumers to pay this. But the cost to the consumer for these parts is getting prohibitive. All of them can be purchased online at far less that B & B charges. I declined having the parts installed. Since labor is covered in the contract, I did not pay anything for the service.

We called them out to take a look and they said we needed a pump. They also wanted to charge us 900.00 dollars to fix the issue. We called another company and they did the same repair for 300.00 dollars. We have stopped our contract with them and would not use them in the future.

Our upstairs A/C unit broke & B&B responded quickly. Installation was tricky but they worked very hard without complaint to install a new air handler in our attic. The price seemed high, but I was still satisfied with their level of service & professionalism.

Once a year they would come and inspect and clean my furnace. This started in 2005. When I went to turn on my furnace this year, the pilot wouldn't light. My brother in law recommended another company. The owner came out and showed me that the furnace had not been cleaned in at least the past three years. There was rust build up in there that could not have been touched, not sure what it is called. But I saw the build up myself. Last year they scared me into buying an entire new furnace, I felt very uncomfortable about it so I canceled the install before it happened. Now I am glad I did.

Last winter when our furnace stopped, I called 3 companies to come give an estimate. The other two companies spent about 10-15 minutes looking at the system and recommended I replace it. The representative from Band B spent 30+ minutes looking at the system. He said it would need to be replaced someday, but could get another 5+ years out of this system and then replace both furnace and air for a more overall efficient system. They made the repair and I signed up for their service plan. Fast forward to two weeks ago, the hottest day of the year, our air stopped blowing. We discovered this at 9:00 on a Friday night. I called Band B and left a message with the answering service. A representative called me right back and was at my house within 40 minutes! Best of all, the call was covered under the plan and the part that was broken was under $25 after our discount! I will use this company for any service they provide!

They were professional, courteous, knowledgeable and attentive. I called and they ALWAYS came out the same day for emergency service, if not first thing the very next day, but I guess I am just difficult to please. I got a service contract so that I didn't have to get expensive repairs, but they pretty much replaced my entire system, which defeated the purpose. The last straw was when I kept having the same problem and they finally said I needed a new compressor! $4K for a new one, $600-800 for a repair or several hundred dollars just to charge up the freon. I would have expected to have been counseled on these issues BEFORE they became an emergency, so that I could save up for it. My contract expires in a month, so I informed them I would be hiring a new company. The new company cost $100 less a year and charged me $2K less for the new compressor.
Description of Work: Called company for a discounted inspection a year ago. Came out within a week and told me I needed a new coil. After the second visit, decided to get a contract to cut costs. They replaced my furnace coil and humidifier.

I had decided to switch my maintenance contract since I found out the company I was using did not include labor in my maintenance contract. B&B does include labor and they were very prompt, whereas the old company was not. I expect to keep using their service.
Description of Work: I had a problem with a circuit breaker on my unit that they fixed. I also signed up with them for a one year contract to provide maintenance checks and cover any problems that might arise. They will come out about two times per year for maintenance and as needed for problems.
