American Windows & Siding

It was a 2 day job. There was 1 item to fix afterwards, and then it was pretty much closed. No quality issues at all. I ended up hiring them later for more work.

First of all, the salesperson was the least pushy of the ones we dealt with. Estimate was the cheapest of the four we had. Have had the windows for a few months now and have had no problems. Installation was professional as far as I can tell.

I was observing the workers and did notice some mistakes they made. They forgot to caulk some of the windows and I pointed it out to them. In the end, the windows look great. I didn't get all the screens and I had to follow-up with them. It’s almost 2 months later and I still don’t have them all and one is fitting improperly. The owner, Charlie, has been good. He has been responsive with calling me back and explains things well. His team is a different story though. I would have hoped that the foreman would have been more involved in the checking the quality of his workers because some of the workers were taking shortcuts on my job. Some of the workers were terrific though!

Very happy with the responsiveness and service. Charlie Gunn did the estimates and measurements and was professional and punctual. the installation team was very good; kept the work areas very clean and cleaned up well after the work was done. The only problem was that the manufacturer of the sliding glass door sent the wrong door (for pulling left to right rather than right to left). The slider could still be installed and Charlie reordered the correct door and the installation team came back a few weeks later to swap the doors out on a Saturday. The condo feels less drafty with the new windows; with the unusually cold winter this year it is difficult to compare my energy costs this winter previous winters but my gas bills were only slightly higher than previous years.

We selected three window firms with good ratings from Angie's list, and requested bids. Ranged from about $5,900 to $4,900, all of them for high-quality vinyl windows. All three seemed like good outfits. We went with lowest bid, since they all had good marks on Angie's. American Windows in Fairfax installed Sunrise windows (the same brand one of the other two companies would also have installed). I did NOT make a big study of window brands, and trusted company owner Edward Dunn's judgment, and the reviews on Angie's list, that they are a high-quality window. We were in no big hurry, and agreed to an install date 4-5 weeks down the line. They only required a deposit of $130 or so, much less than the others. About a month later, they called to arrange an install day. A three-man crew showed up right on time, and needed only about half a day to finish the job. The bid included repair of one or two badly rotted wooden window sills outside (these were the original windows from 45 years or so ago). They did a beautiful job. Windows are great. They are so easy to access -- but we no longer have an excuse to clean them only once every four or five years! Highly recommend this company.

We are so happy with the work we had done by American Windows and Siding of Virginia! The price that we got was competitive with other quotes that I got, but the main reason I went with them was that Brad, who sold us the work, follows through on the construction as well. We had our front door replaced with a decorative glass door, along with sidelites and a half round above the door as well as three other doors and three storm doors. Brad was very helpful in suggesting some decorative trim issues for the front door replacement as well as understanding our budget. We had one little hiccup and the fact that Brad was with the project from the beginning enabled us to get through it with no difficulty since we all knew from where we had started. Being previously in the construction industry, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of having someone follow through the complete project. The work was completed in one day. Louis and the crew were wonderful to work with! He was very patient in listening to our ideas regarding the finishing trim work but, in the end, he actually had the best solution of all. Their attention to detail down to the toe molding was amazing. The house was left cleaner than when they started! The doors look absolutely wonderful! The quality of the Pro Via doors and hardware is very good and the seal is phenomenal. I would not hesitate to use American Windows and Siding of VA again for any future work and I will definitely recommend them to my community?s list of recommended contractors and to any friends who need door, window or siding work.

Charlie Gunn of American Windows was the only contractor who came up with a practical, affordable solution to a problem we had with replacing our front door, its side lights, and the rotted pediment over it that was no longer available. Other contractors either had no idea how to replace the front door system at all or came up with suggestions that involved major construction and significant additional costs. He had a Fypon pediment specially made to fit the existing area. He helped us come up with a design for the side lights that was attractive, private, and affordable. We were very pleased with how the front and patio Provia doors looked when installed. I didn't write a review in 2012 because I was not a member of Angie's List, but I would like people to know this contractor was very creative and accommodating. When the finish of a decorative element of the front door became discolored a few months ago, he replaced it in accordance with the warranty. It took a little while for him to get to it from the manufacture and reinstalled, but he apologized for the delay. It's nice to know this is no fly-by-night company and it stands by its work and warranties.

Brad and Ed at American Windows were very responsive and helpful throughout the process. There was no hard upsell at the point of order. In my ignorance I was asking about a more expensive product and Brad explained I did not need to spend that much to get the level of efficiency I wanted. So nice for a salesperson to consider the optimum value for me and not himself or his company. There were many challenges weather-wise to scheduling the install. I was always given an update. On two occasions, I was the problem, but they accommodated me completely. When we did schedule, the crew showed up right on time ( along with the snow!) and they installed beautifully within 4 hours - in the snow. There was very little mess and this was quite a challenge as the snow was heavy and wet. I am very happy with the look of the windows and especially with the added insulation they provide. I noticed a difference immediately.

After we scheduled an appointment, I took a half day off for that day. When I had called, they said they had scheduled the date for the week after. After I told them what my project was (10 windows), it seemed like they werent interested in any small job like mine.

American Windows were easy and great to work with . The job was done well.

We had 16 windows that were the original wood upstairs and aluminum basement windows (three of the basement windows were really odd sized ones) from when the house was built in 1964 that desperately needed to be replaced. We went into the showroom and had a great consultation with the company. What impressed me is that the gentleman we spoke to started by asking what WE wanted and what was important to US. He patiently explained what the different ratings meant (I had done some research prior but it was still good to have it explained while looking at the windows) and what the cost/benefit tradeoffs were for all the different kinds of windows. They sell everything, gorgeous handcrafted wood windows, high tech fiberglass, the works. He came out to the house the next week and measured the windows, and sat down with us and went through all our options again, and we decided to go with the Vytex vinyl (low maintenance and a great value.) It took them only one day to install the windows and they left the house immaculate -- not one speck of dust or debris. The windows look wonderful, and it was great to have the house toasty warm during the "Snochi" snowstorm last week -- having windows that don't leak made a huge difference! This is a great, low pressure, high value, quality firm that does an excellent job.

Received quote from Brad Galleher, he ordered, we set install date. Crew showed up on time, crew leader identified himself, reviewed job and then the crew of 4 started working. Brad showed up to check on progress. They removed blinds and re-installed upon completion. We have new carpets and they covered all work areas. Around 5:00pm they cleaned up and they were done. American Windows and Siding of VA, Inc. was the best price for 21 fiberglass double hung windows(4 bids total) Whole process was smooth and we're extremely happy with the product.

This company will be around for a while!!! Very professional and easy to work with. We will definitely recommend this company to anyone looking for windows, siding or gutters because of their craftsmanship and attention to detail at a reasonable cost. We could not be happier...

I was happy with his prices, and very happy with the quality of work. As in all major jobs like this, I had a couple of minor complaints, Ben and team came out to look over my list and Corrected each item. I am extremely pleased with the product, and with Ben's team of professionals.

They did a wonderful job. I could not be more pleased with the outcome and I highly recommend them. They are responsive, neat, and hard working. The price was very reasonable for the quality of product that I received. I am the type of customer that has loads of questions and they were able to respond quickly to address my inquiries.

Excellent. Crew was efficient, quick, professional and cleaned up afterwards. Ed Dunn was the sales rep/supervisor and oversaw the entire installation process. They even tried to fix a garage window that was loose in the frame for free (unfortunately it turned out to be more than a quick fix so they were unable to--I still am greatly appreciated that they tried). Ed was very professional, friendly, and really worked to make sure I go the most window for my money; I will contact him in the future when some of my other windows need to be replaced. I would use them again and recommend them to others.

Gary was our main point of contact and was really great to work with. We originally contacted him just to fix the trim around the windows as well as cap the trim. Gary was right on time for our estimate appointment and seemed very knowledgeable. After speaking with him we decided to draw up a quote for 5 new windows, trim and capping work. The quote came in at a great price compared to other vendors we had spoken with. Additionally we really liked that the crew that would be installing the windows had been the same crew for 18 years and knew what they were doing. Gary himself had been with the company I think for 10 years or so as well. We met with Gary at their showroom in MD and liked everything we saw. It took about 4 weeks for the windows to come in. The installation went well. The crew showed up around 10:30am as scheduled and began work. Gary and Miike (another sales rep) both came by the house to check on progress and make sure everything was going well. The crew was very polite and worked diligently. They finished up around 7:30pm. We felt that everyone working with American Windows was really nice and they did a very nice job on the installation of new windows even though a previous contractor has really messed up the frames. Our house is quieter, warmer and looks much nicer inside and out. I would definitely recommend using American Windows again for any of your window needs. We'll be calling them if/when we replace the other windows in the house.

Brad was our main point contact and worked with us throughout the process. We got four quotes and it was obvious that they were the best mix of quality and price. We also liked that they were a local Burke business. We felt Brad was very honest and there was no pressure during the process. He gave us direction when asked in terms of choices and came through on price and timing. We were amazed that except few a minor things, they finished everything in one day. So far, so good. We have not used our A/C or heat since we got the new windows. I would definitely recommend them to anyone getting new windows and would use them again.

I had leaks in my windows and this is the third service provider that I have had fix the leak. So far it looks like they were able to solve the issue. You can hardly tell the difference between the two types of windows.

Brad quoted me a price that was almost half of a prior competitor's quote. Throughout the process, Brad keep me apprised of the project developments. The work crew was very professional and the work was performed very efficiently (less than 4 fours). I would definitely consider American Windows & Siding for future projects.

His name was Mike. He was good. He coordinated everything. He served as my general contractor.

They were all installed in one day. They did very well. They were here on time. They did a pretty good job of cleaning up when they left. There were some fingerprints on the windows, but they could only be seen if the sun was shining on them just right and it was not in that place when they left.

Do not bother with other contractors for windows and doors! American Windows is the right choice! American Windows was simply incredible. The install team came with great attitudes and were incredibly considerate of our newborn son who was only a little over a month old. We installed Vytex windows and Provia doors and couldn't be happier with the result. We first evaluated several products and contractors for the work since we knew this was going to be a big job. Angie's List was a great help, but we checked with Pella, Anderson, Thompson Creek, and a few others. Ultimately, we met with Jim from American Windows 2 years ago and his accommodating attitude and continued feedback was what won us over. I know that many installers do great jobs, but let me give you a few of the extra things that American Windows did for us. 1. We had extensive wood-rot due to a leaky door. They replaced the sub-floor, removed brick from the door threshold to eliminate the problem, repaired all wood rot around the door frame and even included a wood footer to be installed after we replace the carpet. I actually only mentioned that we were planning on replacing the carpet to one of the guys who remembered to include that wood footer. Nice touch. 2. The team left the house cleaner than what we left them with. We do have a newborn and that has made the cleaning aspects of our lives a little more difficult to stay on top of, but these guys not only cleaned up their mess, but they even did a bit of cleaning of our mess. That is obviously outside of any expectation I would ever have for a crew but they did it without even mentioning a word. 3. Additional crews came by to assist with the installation as the wood rot was more extensive than was originally expected. The crews integrated seamlessly with our install team and they worked all day and evening until the job was completed. I know we had a contract to get the work done and this is part of the business, but these guys did all the work without complaint and all while being as considerate as possible to our new family situation. Ultimately, we are left with the results of the work which is just exceptional. The experience of the installation was incredible and I will tell anyone I talk to about how wonderful American Windows was, but the results speak for themselves. There is a reason that these guys are so highly rated.

Awesome! From the initial meeting to the installation of the windows, we were very impressed with the service. Ben didn't pressure us at all. He was also easy to get a hold of and made everything go smoothly. The guys who installed the windows were a great team and left the areas where the windows were installed in great shape! We will definitely do work with this company again!
