I contacted 4 companies -- 1 said the job was too small. Of the remaining 3, American Windows bid was highest, but for a clearly superior product. Most important, owner Ed Dunn listened VERY carefully to my wishes and more than met them. His installation crew was efficient, neat, and did a beautiful job.

This has been an interesting experience. We have used this company twice in the past and have been extremely pleased with the entire experience. In total over two projects, we have spent nearly $20k with them on complete window and sliding glass door replacement. In January, we had a tree fall in the yard which destroyed a deck attached to our bedroom that we never. My wife and I decided not to replace the deck and to remove the slider that was there and replace it with a window. We had contractor doing other work on the house due to the tree, so we had them frame up the window opening. I called American's office and spoke to Jim Littau and told him what I wanted. One window installed, the exact same style as the remainder of the windows in the house. I set up an appointment with him to come measure the opening. He arrived at the allocated time and was extremely flummoxed that I wasn't there as I was at work. My wife is well versed in this kind of thing and is completely capable of watching someone measure a window. He sat down to do the estimate and said, that usually they don't accept any work under $2,500, but as we were previous customers, they would "do us a favor". My wife then presented him with the coupon that they present here and he refused to accept it as "this was far below their normal work amount". With all due respect, the coupon says nothing about minimum order. In fact the coupon says: "American Windows & Siding Windows – “20% off any window, siding, roofing, or gutter project to all Angie's List Members. Including Andersen and Pella products!” Coupon must be presented at the time of estimate. Not valid with any other offer. " I take "any project" to mean any project without a minimum. With all due respect this is false advertisement and Angie's List needs to look into the matter. He left my wife with two options for the window, both in excess of what we expected from previous work. Feeling like we had few other options, we ordered the lesser expensive of the two. I e-mailed acceptance to Mr. Littau from 5 different e-mail addresses with a question that my other contractor had about the installation with no response. I called him as I needed the information requested and he rather exasperatedly told me he had replied to my e-mail. He failed to indicate which one. After the allotted time they called and scheduled time for the window install. As it turns out the window was mis-measured (about an inch too tall) and the installer had to make fairly significant modifications to the house for the window to fit. Luckily the exterior trim that was installed on the outside of the house had a bit extra material, and the interior trim had not been installed. So all in all, We are fairly unhappy with the entire process. The poor communication, the false advertisement, the measurement issues, high price,etc. I love the Sunshine windows they installed for us. They are great. If you decided to get Sunshine Windows, find another installer. Seriously.

The windows were ordered and took a few weeks to arrive. Once they did arrive, Brad scheduled an installation date with us. The team of four replaced all the windows in one day. It was the end of winter and a cold day outside and they only left the openings a short time. They pulled out each old window then replaced with the new one. After getting them all in place, they went back and did all the trim. They also cleaned up everything completely and hauled away the old windows and packaging. Final payment did not take place until a couple of weeks after the installation and Brad checked to be sure all was done correctly. We have noticed a big improvement with the new windows. The wind no longer blows through the window. There is less heat now that it is hot weather. Outside noise has been reduced. I can't say I have seen a huge drop in my electric and heating bills but it seems like the units are working less.Yes

I first had my whole house redone by American Siding back in 2005. The quality of the process and work at that time was superior. Everything was clear, planned out and executed professionally and as promised. At any time over the following 12 years they have been willing to come right out and fix any of the windows if any problems appeared. I don't know another company that would stand by their work and commitments like this. Most recently I had the screening replaced. The screens fit so will in the windows I didn't want to risk getting something with a bad fit. Ben has always been responsive anytime I call. Everything still looks great, but when it is time to do another round I will call them for sure.

Highly professional. Cleaned up perfectly. Windows look beautiful.

Did not use them this time but will definitely use them in the future.

We have had a lot of experience with them. We had all our windows pretty much replaced and we are going to do some other windows with them. I think they’re excellent. We compared them with somebody else and they were less cost.

Amazing service all around. Down to earth and honest sales, professional, fast, and detailed craftsmanship. No pressure and it was all about what we wanted with their suggestions for options or approaches that we hadn't considered but in such a way that they weren't pushing extra services or anything. Highly recommend them for any job you have.

They were on-time and clean. The install only took 1 day and I am very happy with the product.

Drama free, great worksmanship, polite crew, and excellent responsive customer service, plus one of the best deals out there. The install went really smoothly, they actually came out earlier than scheduled, did a cladding on all the windows, and painted the interior parts around them as well. All the work was extremely well done, there were a few problems with the window hardware themselves ( not their fault ), so Mike the owner and his team were able to reorder parts, and Jack just came by and finished the remaining issues. I will definitely be recommending them to anyone we know who need new windows. Thanks Mike and team!

The install team did a fantastic job, great attention to detail. Patience is needed because windows are custom ordered. Currently awaiting two fixes for minor defects, occur this week.

It was amazing! Excellent price and experience! They went above and beyond to ensure it was done well and on time. During the install there was an important shrub that was my mothers and they took extra care to ensure nothing happened to it.

Provider arrived as scheduled. Crew performed the work in a professional manner answering all our questions and cleaned up after the work was completed. The owner stopped by to check on the work while in progress and reviewed the work upon completion. The owner spent a lot of time with us to ensure we got the right doors answering all our questions while providing options to ensure the right fit for our needs. We were completely satisfied with work and would highly recommend this company.

Brad was engaged and helpful from project start to finish. He thoroughly explained the demolition and installation processes to me and there was no high-pressure selling at any point. They were not the lowest priced company but they were 1/2 the cost of several of their competitors. Luis and his crew did an excellent job on the installation. Again, each step was explained to me and Luis conducted a final walkthrough with me before his team packed up and left for the next job. Brad and another senior VP came out during the installation to check on things. I could not be happier with my new doors and windows and with the excellent service provided by American Windows & Siding.

I am writing this now because of the excellent service we received when we exercised our lifetime warranty on our sliding glass door. When we hired them in 2008 to replace all of our windows and sliding glass doors, we ensured we received a lifetime warranty (non-transferable) on our purchase. In 2016, we noticed that one pane of our sliding glass door showed something inside of the double pane that indicated the seal had broken. The process was so simple to work with this company. We simply emailed pictures and asked that they replace the window and ... after about six weeks waiting for them to get a replacement in ... it is replaced. The process went very well and their staff could not have been more helpful!

We had a difficult time finding a day to do the work, but when we did, I was impressed with the product, the non pressure sales presention, the no nonesense work people, the cleanliness, and the clean up. During the job, the owner spent time supervising the work, and I really liked that the installers worked for the company, rather then contracted out. I shjopped at other companies, but this is the one that gave me the most complete information, and provided what they saids they would. Lastly, this company has been in business for a long time, they know northern Virginia and I know will be around in case I need warrenty service.

Like other reviewers have commented, we shopped around at all the "big" companies and box stores to compare quality and price. We learned a lot about marketing tactics and the huge disparity in the price of quality windows. Using Angie's List, we narrowed down our choice to local installers with an A-level rating and settled on American Windows & Siding. They were responsive, offered an excellent price with a very high quality product, and completed the installation in one day. Great team. We will definitely call upon them again when it's time to do the back (north) side of the house.

We talked to several window companies and encountered a couple high pressure sales tactics companies before researching Angie's list for reputable companies. We received detailed quotes and product overviews from American Windows and one other Angie's list contractor. Experience was excellent and pricing and window quality was comparable from both companies. We ultimately selected American Windows & Siding. We worked with Brad (sales rep and project manager) who was thoroughly involved and responsive throughout the entire process. We were extremely impressed by the responsiveness, promptness, cleanliness and quality of the work performed by the install team. Louis and the rest of the install team are top of the line professionals and are great to work with. The windows are awesome. House is much quieter and no more drafts.

Great crew. Timely. Quality work. Attentive to project needs. I reviewed at least six other companies for this job. American Windows & Siding by far was the best value. I highly recommend them to others.

Ed and his team did a great job. Due to the nature of the job a lot of custom sizing and woodwork was necessary. After the widows were ordered the installation team arrived at the house around 2:00PM and completed both windows in less than 5 hours. They were prompt and professional and did quality work. I would use them again without hesitation.

In addition to being the lowest bidder of the several interviewed, (primarily due to the Angie's List discount), I have never had a harder working, more professional and more courteous crew handling a major job on this house in thirty five years. They knew exactly what do to, and completed the job within an amazing seven hours. The coordination and management provided by Brad Galleher was equally impressive. All in all, a most satisfactory experience.

We solicited quotes for 4 companies in the area that were highly rated on Angie's List. Most of the estimates were during the day when my wife was home with the kids. A big part of the selection process was her perception of how she was treated during the visit. One company was rejected due to the rudeness and high pressure sales techniques of their representative. Maybe he was a bad egg. The other 3 were very nice and professional, according to my wife. One fell out because they seemed to be more in the repair business. That left 2. We decided to go with the more expensive of the 2, mainly due to the impression the sales associate left on my wife. Before we made the final decision we asked both for further discounts and American Windows went down another $400, they still were the most expensive though. Received a quote in mid-July and was told that there would be about a 5 week lead time. Received a call a few days ago asking if Monday (yesterday) was convenient. It was. Crew showed up on time (window between 8 and 8:30) and went to work right away by first laying down protective drop cloths to shield our floors. The crew worked all day, though most left for lunch and stayed until the job was complete at around 6:30. They were professional and friendly. Late in the afternoon a representative from the company same by to check on things. Now to try and dissipate all the fumes. The new windows look nice and my wife is very happy. I did notice that some of the screens on the slider windows seem a bit flimsy and tend to stick a little and some of the cleanup of mostly sawdust, flakes, and little bits of debris (in the bathrooms and in my home office) could have been better so I'm lowing the quality a bit. Price is hard to tell. They seem to do quality work and materials cost what materials cost. On the other hand I'm disabled and I'm kind of a captive audience and we did decide to go with the more expensive quote. Hard to compare an experience with a non occurring experience. Time will tell. Now lets see how they do on after-service (should the need arise).

I really couldn't be happier with my experience with American Windows & Siding. We bought a new condo with awful 1940s cracked and rusted shut casement windows that had never been replaced. Our first task was to get bids for replacing them. It's a daunting thing to be ready to shell out the cost of a car on windows for your first home after you've just signed that mortgage! I got four bids, and Jim's bid from American Windows was the lowest and the most reasonable. He beat the big box hardware stores to the tune of thousands of dollars, and looking at reviews of the Vytex-brand windows online, it seems like he was selling a superior product. He also said that his crew could do the job in one day and work around our cats (no small chore). The other bids all said the work would take at least two days, and one bidder told us that we would have to move out of our place overnight while they worked for the two days. What I liked most about Jim was that he gave us a straightforward bid. One of the other bidding companies really came in with the hard sale, all the bells and whistles, claiming that their OKNA windows were the greatest thing since sliced bread. And then he quoted me $18,000 for the job (close to double Jim's bid!). That salesman then spent the next two days over email putting down the competition, and he ultimately knocked $6000 off his original price as we negotiated. That's $6000 in extra profit he was planning to make off me! I decided that I trusted Jim much more than that guy. My one small complaint was that Jim said it'd take about 4-5 weeks to order the windows from the manufacturer, and it actually took more like 7 weeks. But I know that this is the busiest season for windows replacement, and that issue is more with Vytex than American Windows. The windows arrived at their shop on Tuesday and by Thursday they had a crew out here installing them. Their 4-person crew arrived on time, and got right to work. All of them were considerate and willing to deal with my manic and hovering observation (I figure if I'm gonna pay $10,000 in a single day, I want to make sure everything is perfect). They also worked around the cats, letting me transfer them from room to room to avoid work zones. I was amazed at how the American Windows crew worked. They got the whole job done in one day, including cutting out the old windows that were bolted into the brick, ripping out the steel pans that were around the casement windows, building new frames, installing the windows with trim around them, and caulking inside and outside. The crew and their leader even stayed later than the original 5pm end time to get the job done in one day. They did a good job cleaning up after themselves and managed not to damage any of our furniture when they moved it to do the work. Our condo is transformed! The new windows look great and work great. I highly recommend this company for their honest and clear communication, their excellent installation crew, and great pricing.
